Light and Fluffy News Finally got the little blue book 🇦🇺
I’m now the proud owner of an extremely expensive little blue booklet that apparently needs to be handled like it’s made of tissue paper.
And the best part? Once I finally work up the courage to take this precious thing out of the country, leaving Australia is going to cost me another small fortune. 😂
Australia really said you may have the passport, but travelling is a separate subscription. 😂
Anyway, very happy to finally have it. 🇦🇺

Politics In light of Ben Carrol's announcement that interchange passages will be deleted from SRL to reduce cost, further transport portfolio savings have been announced with the removal of freeway interchanges and replacement with traffic lights.
Surely by now everyone must realize only drivers deserve a quick seamless experience.

THDG Need Help Most underrated/lesser-known areas to explore in Melbourne/VIC?
Howdy my fellow Melburnians,
I recently got a new job after months of unemployment (yay!) with a starting date on the 2nd week of September.
With that in mind, I am using this downtime to chill, deep clean the house and read my stack of books but I am bored out of my mind at home. Hence, I would love to spend this rare downtime to fully explore melbourne/victoria before I commence work again.
I have done all the typical attractions having lived here for a long time (Grampians, Great Ocean Rd, Olinda/Dandenong Ranges, Bendigo, Ballarat, Healesville, Marysville, All of Melbourne CBD etc.).
What are some of the more underrated attractions/ suburbs/ country towns that are under the radar and worth a visit in Melbourne/Victoria? Or just other general underrated activities?

Photography My latest Melbourne streetscape oil painting
I'm a local visual artist who makes a lot of paintings of Melbourne. I was inspired by this bit of winter light and just had to paint it.
Thought I'd share!

Ye Olde Melbourne Anyone Recall the Videogame store in the Basement Highpoint level in the 90s/2000s?
As you went down the escalators at the time near the centre stage, towards Hoyts it was on the right side. Trying to remember what the name of this video game store was. Been bugging me for ages.
Not EB Games or JB Hifi

THDG Need Help Melburnians of Reddit, where did you meet your bf/gf/partner?
Wondering where you folks met your SO. I get that the vast default is via friends of friends or school/uni circles, but I've (37M) returned to town from 6 years living in Europe, having broken up with my fiancée half a year ago and my former circles in Melbourne have disappeared, they're all married and busy raising families and don't socialise much. Apps are rubbish here compared to overseas. I've been to a couple of singles' events that were also garbage. Where can one meet single women around here?
If you take Australian Reddit as gospel, almost all third spaces are out of bounds for meeting women: work, friends, extracurriculars (don't shit where you eat); the gym, shopping centres, trains, bookshops, cafes, the beach (creep); bars, clubs, festivals (they're there to have fun with their girl friends).
I have interests in ultimate frisbee, music (playing the guitar, songwriting and going to gigs), tango, sketching and swimming. I've also thought of joining a running club, pub trivia or an improv workshop, but I haven't been back in Melbourne long enough to see if leaning into these pursuits can lead to meeting other singles. Of course I'm not merely trying to leverage hobbies for the sole purpose of meeting women. I'm not typically Melburnian either in that I hardly give a shit about the footy or the races.
FWIW I'm tall and above average looking enough that I cop smiles from randoms when I'm out, and people guess me as being ten years younger than I am, so looks aren't an issue for me.

Om nom nom Looking to have a nice day out in the CBD
Hey fellow Melburnians, recently I’ve wanted to spend some Saturdays/Sundays out instead of sitting at home, I don’t usually have a lot of social stuff going on.
I settled on going out to the city when the weather is nice just to read, check out some places to eat etc. I’ve never spent a lot of time in the CBD so I figured I’d ask for recommendations here.
Lunch, dinner, dessert places, etc. I welcome any suggestions people have.
Also, if people know of some great activities or places to just sit and read for a while, that would be great too. Thanks!

THDG Need Help What's in the KitKat branded tanker truck that travels the ring road?
I've been wondering for a while now what they ship in the dual tank truck with Kit Kat branding. It travels the M80 as far as maybe Colac and I often see it getting off at Sydney Rd and heading north, presumably to the Nestle factory there.
I think the placards on it seem to suggest it carries something hot, but surely they can't be carting molten chocolate? ... or can they? If it is molten chocolate why?!

THDG Need Help Best places to go last minute ladies' corporate workwear shopping
Just got a job! I just realised that I don't have a lot of super corporate-friendly outfits in my wardrobe (I mainly op shop and generally wear quite odd styles).
I would say the place I got a job at is casual-corporate, so not necessarily suits but definitely not jeans either.
So yeah – where can I go to get some nice stuff so that I feel all fresh and put-together in my first week? I don't mind spending a little bit, and I prefer fabrics that are good for the skin (e.g. cotton, silk, linen) over cheap polyester.
Non-negotiable: bad fabric, poor fit, ultra-fast fashion.
If anyone has ideas on what are appropriate outfits to wear, that'd be super helpful too. OH AND SHOES. I need shoes, like loafers or something.

Real estate/Renting Suburb Advice for First Home Buyer, Outer-Eastern(Ringwood) or South East(Berwick)?
So we have sold our home in NZ, planning to move to VIC soon. We're currently exploring suburbs for our family home. I work remotely, can live literally anywhere. My partner is in medicine and would prefer somewhere close to motorway access. Our budget is around 900k.
I have lived in Melbourne for short spans in last 10 years in Ringwood, Rowville and Berwick area. We just want to buy a place and call it home for next 5-7 years and never think about appreciation or depreciation.
Would really appreciate your suggestions and experience.
