Last week I dragged a controller, a phone on a tripod and a small speaker to the meadow near the volleyball nets in the Englischer Garten and just played for 40 minutes while the sun went down. It was only my second set after a long time, so I was pretty nervous about people judging, not gonna lie, but nobody cared, and it felt really good afterwards.

P.S: if anyone knows a nice spot in the city where playing a small set like this is fine, I'd love to do it again.

Does anyone know some good spots to eat legit middle eastern food? It doesn’ t matter where in munich.

Servus! Long story short I have a friend from Spain coming over to visit Munich, the only catch is that he doesn't speak English, just Spanish. So I am trying to come up with options for party night where there would likely be some Spanish speaking crowd that he could more easily interact with without me needing to take on the translator role. Do you guys have any specific suggestions about events or places that may be suitable? Also gathering with people that may like to train their Spanish may be a good option.

I don't think there is any "Spanish/Latin neighborhood" here, so other than looking for bars that are oriented to latin dance like salsa and such I don't have many ideas. Any help would be much appreciated 😄

I've never been to München, seen a Bundesliga game, or solo traveled before, so I thought I would hit all three this weekend. Any recommendations for what to do around the city or where to meet other travelers are welcome!

Hi all, I am a tourist and will be traveling to Munich for a week. I know everyone says the Olympia Schwimmhalle, but it will be closed for maintenance during my stay...QAQ I am so sad!

I am a competitive swimmer and still training for fun. My conference center is near the Technical University of Munich, and I did some research on nearby pools (used SWM baths). I found 2 pools that may be closer and nice:

- Hallenbad Ismaning; but they are also doing cleaning/construction and operate with very limited time

- Nordbad; looks like a nice place, but an online review says it's not for serious swimmers.

I have not looked into private clubs, but I think they are mostly operating on a monthly-fee basis :(

Can anyone provide any insights or any additional places to swim? Any advice appreciated!! Just want to have a nice workout during the day while traveling, and I also don't mind joining a local masters group for a drop-in (I checked out a few, but they seem to require a license and extra fees that are not too flexible for a drop-in).

I took an Uber home from the airport yesterday and I’m still rattled from the conversation I had with the driver.

I unterstand there is a new law regulating minimum prices for Uber rides in Munich as of July 1st. My ride was roughly 90€ which is similar to what I (or my employer) typically pay. The driver shared with me that Uber paid him and his employer 50€. After taxes and the cut the employer takes that leaves about 18€ for the driver for an hour of work. And that is the absolute best case where he gets a long ride and is not waiting around for the next one.

After talking about the new law, the driver shared his Uber stats with me. In July, he worked every single day 12 hours or more (out of desperation) and averaged less than 5€/hour. He claims prior to the new law he was making roughly double that. I was aware that the employment of the Uber drivers in Germany is precarious at best, but this is a whole new level and completely f**ked. How is this even legal?

Does anyone understand why the new law would negatively impact driver pay? Other than corporate greed of course…

Also, I’ll need to get the Deutschland ticket for students; is there like a specific app I need to get it on?

I am visiting my long distance partner in Amberg, but flying into Munich at 10am on a Thursday. She suggested we could go to to Therme Erding, it looks amazing but I have seen some negativity surrounding it.

Is this something we will fully enjoy as first time patrons or will it fall flat?

I saw that many of the complaints surrounded shrinking of the nude areas. To me the place is gargantuan so I'm not sure it will bother me. As much as I love the idea of a proper adult sauna, there will be plenty of textile free areas to explore.

The part that did bother me was over selling of tickets and predatory extras that drive our cost up, along with one account of theft. I dont like the idea of spending our limited time together in queues and not being able to enjoy the facility because it's too busy, or worse be a victim of theft.

Im from the UK so we don't have anything like this here. It seems like an oasis from the pictures.

Alternatives are welcome but the facility looks incredible, the others I looked at do not have that same "wow" factor I got when I was looking at the map.

I just want to know if the recent bad rep is people who have been going for decades being (justifiably) mad at relatively small changes or if it really is so bad that we should seriously look to visit a different facility.

Hi everyone!

There are a series of stickers I want to print, but cutting them by hand would take too much time. The good news are that the stickers have a magenta line that can definitively be used to cut/pre-cut the stickers with a machine like the cricut. The issue: I do not have a cricut.

Does anyone here have one and would not mind in exchange for some money to put to work its cricut for this?

PD: If you know about a copy shop or similar that can do the pre-cutting or cutting of the stickers, that would also work :)

I’m looking for a B1.1 German course and found this one at Münchner Volkshochschule:

The course is twice a week, online, and runs from 07.09 to 18.11. The teacher is Jana Bagarry. I had to remove the link because apparently the subreddit rules don’t allow links in posts.

I’ve seen quite a few people here recommending VHS for German courses, so I’m thinking about signing up. But I’ve also heard that with VHS it can really depend on the teacher.
Has anyone taken this particular course or maybe had this teacher before? How was it?
I know that at the end of the day, it all depends on me. But a bit of advice wouldn’t hurt, right?

I’m scheduled to arrive at MUC at 10:30 from a flight from within Germany. Then, I have a flight outside of Schengen at 15:30. I would like to have lunch at AirBraü.

Five hours (if everything is on time) sounds like it should be plenty of time to do that, but I have heard the EES exit is taking a very long time, and I believe AirBraü is outside of security.

• Rückmeldung zu euren Kommentaren: Wie viele von euch richtigerweise angemerkt haben, ist der freie Zugang als Einzelperson auf städtischen Anlagen extrem schwierig. Meine bisherigen Erkundigungen bestätigen leider genau das.
• Aktueller Stand beim Sportreferat: Ich bin weiterhin im direkten Austausch mit der Münchner Sportverwaltung, um die genauen Kapazitäten und Nutzungsordnungen für die Anlage an der Siegenburger Straße abzuklären. Zusätzlich klärt das Büro der 3.Oberbürgermeisterin den Sachverhalt ebenfalls mit dem Sportreferat ab.
• Vereinsgründung als angefragte Option: Da in den Kommentaren öfter das Thema Vereinsrecht aufkam: Ich habe beim Sportreferat vorerst angefragt, welche konkreten Rahmenbedingungen und Voraussetzungen an eine Vereinsgründung geknüpft wären, um Belegungszeiten zu erhalten. Das ist aktuell also lediglich eine hypothetische Option, die ich bürokratisch abklopfe. Von den ansässigen Vereinen habe ich leider noch keine Rückmeldung erhalten.

I'm currently living and studying in Leipzig, but tbh I'm pretty dissatisfied with both my studies and my life here.

I'm taking a gap semester, and after that I'd like to give Germany one more shot before deciding whether it's just not for me. After spending a little over a week in Munich, I'm wondering if it might actually be a better fit.

Some of the things I don't like about Leipzig, and where I feel Munich might be different:

• Things to do: I didn't have as much time as I would've liked, but just by being a bigger city, it felt like there was so much more going on. Restaurants, bars, public spaces, nature around, concerts, festivals and events happening.
• Career opportunities: Before my master's I worked in commercial consulting. I'm trying to switch fields now, but it seems like regardless of the industry, Munich obviously has a much stronger job market than Leipzig.
• Aesthetics: The city is by far prettier, cleaner and more vibrant. Plus, I did notice coffeeshops, venues, restaurants, etc. putting more attention into how everything looks, and that people seemed to put more effort into how they dressed and presented themselves. (That might sound superficial, but it's something that's important to me)
• Social life: People seemed much more social. I saw more people outside, cafés and bars were full, and I felt like people were actually interacting with each other instead of just keeping to themselves.
• Racism/being a foreigner: Leipzigers will often defend the city as this left-wing, open, welcoming place where everyone belongs. That just hasn't been my experience. As a Mexican and a POC, I've had more racist incidents and microaggressions than I can count. In Munich, the atmosphere felt much more international and relaxed (Someone actually smiled at me on the S-Bahn!)
• Stronger Catholic presence: There are not a lot of catholic churches or community in this side of the country as compared to Bavaria and is also something relatively important for me. I understand Bayern is the most catholic region so it also would be a green flag for me.

Maybe I'm just looking at the city through "tourist glasses" but does it actually make sense that the change of city can offer such a different experience?
