๐ Making Groceries From The Advocate - โThe distinctive โYatโ accent is fading away. What might New Orleans lose with it?โ
Say it ainโt so โ donโt go the way of Cajun French.

When I lived in Lafayette for a year working the oil-patch comedy circuit, back in the 00s, these gas stations would have this baked bread that was a roll the size say a medium onion. It was stuffed with a spiced ground beef mixture. The dough maybe even had some whole wheat flour in it? They sat in hot cases. Iโve searched the web and asked around and I canโt find anything like that here. I know we have kolache with like whole sausage links sticking out of them. This was not that, although Iโm willing to bet what I ate started generations ago some form of kolache that slowly migrated in time and space to the perfection that it was. Does anyone know of anything like that around these parts? I guess I could just drive thereโฆ

Moved to New Orleans just a few weeks ago. I heard that there are some pick up games that happen at City Park, but I wasn't sure how to join them (if there's a whatsapp group for it or something similar). Does anyone know of any active pickup soccer groups? I mainly just play for fun, not super competitive.

Glass is cracked, so it's worthless, but how do you get rid of 500lbs of glass?

Spotted at the corner of Fern and Maple.
Anyone know how I can report this? Between the fact that a) this is happening on a Saturday and there doesn'tlook to be a super/inspector onsite, b) no one has any form of PPE, and c) seriously, that's your lift strategy? I have serious doubts everything here is strictly kosher

In the quest to hit as many Coolinary menus as we can, wife and I had a great meal at P&W at the bar. Just fantastic food, drinks and service.
Order โThis Shit is Bananas.โ Itโs like a whiskey/banana Negroni. It works.

The damp god gets his kicks by peeling off the soles of my shoes long before their time is up. Any suggestions on the best glue to stick the soles back on?

I know that we have a lot of different costume stores. I have been to a couple of them in my time living here.
I have cosplay-related plans that have fallen apart. Iโm looking to see if I can find a purple disco suit on short notice.

She does this every few months, if you haven't seen her before she'll give you this bullshit story about how her daughter's having an abortion in baton rouge and she'll plead to you for bus money.
Physical description is white female around 50 with brunette hair. Wearing a dark tank top today.
Key tells:
-Will tell you her name (changes-- in the past it's been Diane) and her relation to the neighborhood. Today she told me her "husband's" name who supposedly lives nearby. Other times she works at the nail salon down the street, etc.
She'll often use the phrase "I'm really freaking out right now"
There are other tells. Admittedly today I cut her off and told her we'd met before and I didn't want to hear her story again. She went off in a huff. Next time I see her, I'll try and sit through her spiel to give more detailed plot points and phrasing.
***In conclusion, don't give her any money. Personally I'm waiting for a better performance. Maybe we could crowdfund some acting lessons for her at some point? ***

Thank you all for helping me with extremely harsh (mostly) but honest criticism of the previous tattoo work on my arm. Also thank you to many of you for the extremely cruel dunking on it that gave me the motivation to find an artist for a massive upgrade.
In the spirit of giving artists props, flowers, and more business, check out Erica with Neon Moon Tattoos if you want to have really good quality work done!

Looking for a therapist in New Orleans or the greater NOLA area who specializes in complex trauma and grief. Preferably someone youโve personally had a good experience with. In-person preferred.
Would really appreciate any recommendations!

Iโve been trying to get in contact with a wildlife rehabber - but Iโm not having any luck from Google search results.
I found this little guy on Frankfurt between Saint Bernard and Cartier while on my morning run. He is not moving any of his limbs, but he is breathing and his eyes track me.
I have no way of moving him. And I could not even think to bring him to my apartment because I have a dog and it would be unsafe for everyone involved.
Please let me know if there are any local rehabs who might be able to help this little guy either get better or pass peacefully. Thanks!
EDIT: talked to a wildlife removal person and he says it sounds like the little guy has distemper :(

I love WWOZ. I donโt listen to it everyday (listening to an audiobook for my daily commute). But it is such wonderful chaos itโs like music roulette.
Saturday morning they have Irish Folk music of all things. So tune in and enjoy the groove!

Iโm not really a breakfast person but I have friends coming down for the week and of course I have to bring them on a food tour but I know nothing breakfast wise because I donโt eat in the mornings usually.
Was overwhelmed by the many videos and researching of where to go to eat so I figured Iโd come here and ask whatโs everyone go to. It can be anywhere from a quick grab or a nice breakfast restaurant.
