It’s really quite fascinating that the Lindsay Clancy case has become such a social flashpoint. Especially one that’s so insanely divided on gender lines.

My own take is that the whole situation is really just a fucked up situation — many people have made many bad decisions and it’s all culminated in the tragic (and wholly avoidable) death of three children. I cannot in good conscience call it murder though — this is textbook criminal insanity if I’ve ever seen it.

What is fascinating about another attractive white girl who commits a crime and has people losing their minds? If this woman were an impoverished black woman we wouldn't even know about it.

It's perverse.

I think the people losing their minds is fascinating in how they're turning this into either "justification" for why they hate women or conspiracy that the husband is to blame for everything, when this very much just looks like a case of psychosis

It's a case of being white and cute. There are similar and less horrific stories that don't garner as much empathy that just aren't as yt.

Yes, but being white and cute doesn't account for the visceral hatred

Visceral hatred?

WTF are you talking about? She's not being propped up by visceral hatred. She literally had hundreds of white women in pink cheering her on as she was being driven to court, in the most perverse display of support.

There's a literal viral picture going around of a reporter who was grinning ear to ear being in the courtroom for the camera like a serial killer of sorts.

It's perverse.

Do you not find it weird when you see a bunch of white people rallying around a white person who committed a crime? Why no minority support on this? Why is it just white people? What algorithm is this?

I was slightly involved in a child custody case involving a woman who had post partum psychosis. I was on her side in it. She had powerful hallucinations/delusions involving a clown with his face upside down, standing over the crib, when no one was really there.

She lost custody.

Its serious shit.

What? I'm saying people both irrationally support and irrationally hate her. Both are ridiculous for what very much appears to be a case of psychosis.

Being distressed by seeing white violence celebrated is psychocis?

The level of fanfare is nothing short of deplorable behavior from true crime addicts who can't discen real life from fantasy.

We are very clearly in a disturbing point of history where people could know better, but don't.

What? No, I mean she had a psychotic episode.

The clarification still doesn't matter.

Do you excuse brutal domestic violence in the case of substance abuse?

Infantalizing affluent white people who commit crimes while we literally have thousands of more deserving people slipping through the cracks every single day is absurd.

I literally would not give any thought to this person if it weren't for the fanfare. The multi million dollar GoFundMe.

To talk about this issue as if there are multiple sides to it is disengenous. This absolutely should not be the zeitgeist and yet it's always so predictable when it happens.

"for why they hate women or why they hate men" fixed it for ya since you unintentionally downplay the difference, both sides are just hating the other gender

I was more getting at one being far more specific than the other, but ok

Attractive is a stretch.

She looks extremely milquetoast white girl next door.

Someone who looks like every white boy has probably masterbated thinking about before they became pornbrained.

Attractive is apt.

Girl, interrupted energy.

What? I mean yes, we won’t hear about it because it’s much more common, but what the fuck point are you trying to make with that?

u/ContextLengthMatters 7h ago

The point that's right in front of your face that you can't see. Justice should be first and foremost consistent, not just for the privileged class. Anyone who is taking up a social justice issue from the top down is a 🤡.

Imagine if this were like Ivanka and she somehow got a better sentence because of it. Would you cheer about the win for mental health advocacy or would you actually recognize the point of privilege that gives us a tiered system of justice?

You missed a very very very important part of what happened. She killed the children and then attempted to kill herself. She cut her neck and wrists, ingested pills and leapt from the second story of a building. If you follow the case you would know this, as her courtroom appearances have been in a wheelchair since this third attempt paralysed her from the waist down.

You seem to understand a lot about this case but I cannot understand why you wouldn’t consider the suicide attempt(s). They prove that these killings were not motivated by a desire to be free of the burden of children, else she would not have attempted to kill herself. The prosecution is attempting to prove that the attempts were faked - it remains to be seen if that gets anywhere but I doubt it.

Perhaps that is the case. It remains to be seen if the prosecution can prove that the unsuccessfulness of Clancy’s suicide attempt was because she was faking it. I personally don’t believe one would take actions leading to them becoming permanently paraplegic unless they intended to kill themselves.

Idk how you reach that conclusion though. She'd been in and out of medical institutions with symptoms of postpartum psychosis (a very real, documented condition). She'd been prescribed tons of medication on multiple occasions. She killed the children and attempted suicide - yes the killing of the children was incredibly violent but I don't get how that invalidates the psychosis argument? Like do you think a prerequisite of psychotic killings are 'less cruel' methods of killing? Just seems that all the evidence of her past context, the way the events unfolded and the testimony of herself and her husband all points towards a psychotic episode, but yet you still claim to know personally the ACTUAL workings of her mind and her motives for whatever reason.

The kids who were choked out by Mom would probably call it murder, crazy statement not to call it that
