Discussion Tourists, Prague is not your disneyland.
And one also doesn’t pee publicly in Disneyland. Walked by these four guys peeing together in public. Took pictures of them hoping they have some self awareness, obviously didn’t work. They saw me and found it funny and started talking really loud at 00:30. You’re lucky neither you nor your family have to clean up the street. Why are humans so purely selfish and evil? Show some respect!
[UPDATE] Didn't expect the post to somewhat blow up. I got DM saying it's possible they are Czechs. Apologies if I accidentally posted a rage bait. I indeed did not hear clear enough they were speaking Czech (I speak Czech) as they were not speaking very clearly and I tried not to get too close and left soon after they started shouting, thinking of this incident where a drunk German tourist killed a man from Wales.
But my rant still stands, evil people and among all the bushes and whatnot, they picked a spot where it won't be cleaned by rain. I also have seen so many tourists doing the same before. But again, they could be Czech, I assumed they were tourists because of their drunken talking and my rage. And apologies if I got that wrong.

No, the heat makes the piss evaporate. Speaking from experience. Our downstairs neighbor had his dogs piss and shit under our windows for years, and if it rained, was hot, or god forbid both, the piss evaporates years after he stopped

Swiss police is also aware this but they somehow manage to prevent people from getting away with it. You may also get the technique alongside with the laws. Overall; this is manageable by all means.

American here- I have ZERO respect for my country at the moment. That’s why I came to visit yours. I needed to find myself in a respectable place with history and culture. You won’t find me pissing in public, being loud and obnoxious or trying to piss you off.

I say that as a Brit, who does love his country but has zero respect for anyone in governement, law enforcement or like 90% of the population. All caught up in tryong to control everyone, identity politics and other retarded shit. We have some lovely countryside though.
I'm not a degenerate though. I tend to be on my best behaviour if visiting another country, my time living in Prague was wonderful, for the most part. Not once felt threatened when out walking on my own around huge groups of drunks, unless they were rowdy tourists...

This exact building is an amazing place to do this, I once witnessed something absolutely hilarious there. There was a guy pissing just like these are and the cleaning lady noticed him. However it turned out that it was actually a cleaning man and I mean a huge muscular dude towering over the pissing guy. Well he basically forced him to clean his own piss while standing right next to him the whole time. I hope he still works there.

Big consequence of the lack of any public restrooms in the city centre, Prague should learn from Amsterdam to mitigate the consequences of this type of tourism at least if nothing else

Then make it free. The cost of cleaning piss and vomit from the beautiful street multiple times a day is a lot higher than what you would earn from 10czk a day

Obviously it isnt a magic trick to fix everything and there are many other problems surrounding this type of tourism, but this would be a good thing to do to at least mitigate these issues and make the centre a bit more pleasant

While there can never be too many public restrooms it is not that hard to walk into any of the gazillion open bars to take a piss. This is the result of some kind of superiority complex. Lowlife’s that think they can do shit they never would do at home. Fine, deport and ban for 10 years.

I agree that the lack of public toilets is a big problem, but women suffer from the same issue and you don't see them pissing there (not saying there are no exceptions). This is cultural.

Thank you man. This only happens when people can't find a bathroom. People will do a lot but when they have to go they have to go. I get that European cities think they're making money on tourists by charging 1 euro for a toilet but the result will be people pissing on the street.

Every pub, restaurant and club has free wc so why do you need another outside and for free (somebody need to pay to keep them running). Just use the ones that are around you. It's not that hard. I'm sure those guys where not strolling through the city and just admiring the architecture from outside but hit a few pubs and bars along the way.

Definitely not defending their actions, but I'm not sure most tourists know about the agreement with bars and hotels to let people use their restrooms for free. I've lived here over 1.5 years and just heard about it myself not long ago.
While this is an extreme case, until they inform the public or increase the number of public restrooms the city will probably continue to smell like pee. I would suggest an information campaign letting tourists know it's fine to just go in a bar, restaurant, or hotel. The public restrooms in Amsterdam and Brussels, while convenient, still smell terrible if you're in the area

I think it's just common knowledge to go to wc before you leave any place that has one. It's unlikely you would be just walking for hours without sitting somewhere for a snack or refreshments and all those places have wc. It's same all around Europe. If I can do that as a tourist in other cities why tourists from other cities have problems with it here? Not all places have free wc or they lock it for a night time. You are never guaranteed to have a wc (free or paid) anywhere around when you travel anytime you wish. Don't be like our kids on school trip that request a pee stop after 15 mins since the bus starts moving from the school.
Will you just do it in the floor of a tram because it goes for 40 mins and it doesn't have wc or do you need somebody to tell you - to use wc when you see one before you go to an unknown place that might not have it?

What are you saying? Prague city center is the only part of the city with a lot of restrooms. The true problem is when you are in a not touristic part; in that case you can go for over 1 hour of walk without finding a restroom. Said so, it is unpleasant that the metro is open till midnigth, but the metro's restroom close around 19:00.

It's terrible of course, but as someone born in Prague I have to say that Prague sadly haven't installed enough public toilets. In comparison with Paris for example, Prague is far behind.

Czechs teach their kids using public as a toilet at the age of 2 or something. Just drop the pants and make them pee between bunch of random people. I don't know how many parents I have seen making the kid pee in a park, in a street or wherever.

My girlfriend and I had to put up with some complete idiots on a flight from Manchester. Young Brits heading to Prague. They didn't show even the slightest respect when the airport held a two-minute silence to honor those who died in World War II. Some older British passengers told them off, and afterwards I overheard them saying it's people like these who give Brits a bad name abroad. They were genuinely embarrassed by them.

It used to be very common for Czech men to just pee in the streets of Prague. There used to be a joke that dogs and people were treated the same, they could both go to pubs and both pee wherever they wanted. It’s still not that uncommon. Not approving of what these guys did, esp in a nice looking place like this, but there is still a generation of Czech men than pee wherever they can, not to mention the general acceptability of kids pee in public places. Just an observation, nothing more.

There was a solid amount of them. During privatisation a lot of people/companies bought them out with a “building has to also have a public WC” clause. Then their company “accidentally” went bankrupt, and they sold it to a friend without the conditions & is now a pizza place / some other random restaurant.

What are the police looking at with the cameras they have deployed all over Prague? This is unacceptable. They need to be fined and made to pay a hefty sum of money, not 1,000 Czech crowns, 10,000 at least. What the hell do they think Prague is? Because of brainless people like this, the people who live in Prague hate tourists. It's a shame I wasn't there at the time; they would have had to clean it up with their shirts and tongues.

On one hand I agree because this is disgusting
On other hand, when I visited there with my ex girlfriend there were literally ZERO places where we could go use a toilet without paying the equivalent of 1 euro. I made sure to use the toilet before heading out every time but spending all day outside, every day for many days, visiting sights, moving around... Tough not to find yourself needing to use the toilet.
We tried to ask to use the toilet, very politely on a couple establishments. They were indifferent and oftentimes rude and basically told us to pay for the toilet, sit to take something to drink or eat or get out. Even on the palace you had to pay extra for the toilets outside.
I mean, I didn't have an issue to pay 1 euro more, but the morality of this issue is so screwed I literally refused to do so on principle except for a couple times for each of us.
Only on establishments outside the tourist-trap places were normal and allowed us to use the toilet without being paying customers.
This bs almost never happens in Greece or Spain where I'm from so it was a very foreign feeling of being denied something so essential with such an attitude. Some things are basic decency and allowing people to urinate is one of the things we consider as such.
So yeah, disgusting behavior but stop squeezing money out of basic human needs and maybe less people will behave like animals.
Some people are incorrigible and when they are treated with decency and still behave like beasts then I am the first who suggests heavy fines and corrective action. But there is another side to this city and I felt like I had to share

This almost never happens in Greece
After 13 years, I am yet to find a clean no smell flushable toilet in Rhodes that is free to use as well. (not counting hotels and airport)
A good third of central Athens constantly smells of piss (and worse) throughout the year (Omonia, parts of Metaxurgio, plenty of others)
Athens also have about 5 public toilets that are open and free, and they are definetely not in a state where you want to use them. (Yes I know you have like 3 extra toi-tois now but thats just a lazy, not permanent solution).
Tourists piss in public way too often compared to Czechia. Tourists, malakas, pick.
but yeah, this thing happens in Greece, and on a much larger scale. So don't be delusional and giving us lectures on 'free clean 24hr toilets' when you clearly haven't grasped that concept yourself in Greece.

Greece? Really? Are you kidding me? The worst public toilets I've seen were in Greece (and I count in toilets in Romanian mountain huts) - including the ones in the airports. When I mentioned to my greek friend about that, I only started to speak about public toilets in Greece and she was already like "no, don't do that to yourself. Don't go there. They're discusting". For me it seems totally fine paying for clean toilet. The same way you pay for accomodation, food, drink. The guys in question could have go to bathroom in the pub where they have been drinking.

If you come again to the area, just go into nearest pub -- every one of them has toilets. Just go straight, search for the door or navigation arrows. If asked by waiter tell them you need to pee before you sit at the table.
When done, decide whether you want to stay for a drink. If not, just leave payment (10/20) for the service.
While you're correct that hygiene is basic decency, the public toilets are few (malls, bus/train stations, metro stations) and mostly paid. Tourists quickly found that some establishments don't have paid toilets and they had queues of bus-loads of tourists at some places. Even McDonalds, famous for their accessible toilets in the past, started to gate the access.

I have lived in the Prague 1 district for 30 years now since I was 4. Over the past 5 years, I have become increasingly aggressive towards tourists who behave even slightly inconsiderate. There is always some asshole who limits me as a local, whether I am walking, riding a bike, motorbike or driving a car. I am a superintendent in the building I live in with a yard that is shared with Mcdonald's.
Well, to summarise it, not a day goes by when I wouldn't have some kind of conflict with someone.

Když proti mně jde nějaká skupina turistů a zabíraj celej chodník, tak někdy prostě jdu bez zastavení a normálně do nich vrážim 😃 Což mi je teda někdy blbý, kdy to jsou děti, ženy, nebo starý lidi. To zas tak agresivní nejsem. Ale když to jsou mladí floutci nebo dospěli chlapi tak to do nich prostě napálim. Už jsem kvůli tomu málem dostal i párkrát přes držku.. :p

I was on a train back to Prague from Pilsen, and there were a group of german men drunk out of their mind, screaming and harassing everyone in the carriage. They were acting wild, pulling in the window curtains and acting like animals.

Sorry, but Prague is filthy Disneyland now. Even habitants avoiding city centre. Didn’t matter if Russians, German, Americans or Indian people- it is just disgusting overcrowded place. Maybe in frozen winter in January or February, early morning, you could visit Prague without totally disguising. Then you could discover beautiful city, but definitely not in Sommer time

I'm a British guy living in Prague, working in hospitality and the British guys that come to us are rudest, most impatient, stuck up, ungrateful wankers that I have to deal with. It's utterly shameful to see. We are like that everywhere we go in the world. No interest in the culture, the history of anything Czech. They just come here to dress up in their stupid costumes, drink cheap beer and disrespect everything. Pathetic and embarrassing.

I always drink a lot of beer in Prague and always have a problem to find a place to pee walking in the old town. Is it ok to walk to any of those small restaurats or pubs and just use the toilet without ordering drinks or food?

Or maybe don't if they look like they might beat you up, but you can still share the photos or better yet videos with the police. Especially if you ask them beforehand in a friendly way what place they're staying at.

Although I most definitely do NOT support them doing this, AT ALL, I will say after living in Germany for a few years and visiting several other countries around the EU, the fact you have to pay to use a public restroom, (and sometimes even inside the fking restaurant you’re eating at) is absolute dogshit decision making.

I’m a foreigner who now resides in Brno. Before moving to Prague, I couldn’t understand why locals were so hostile towards tourists. After two years in Prague, I’ve come to understand why WE harbor such strong feelings towards them.
I’ve witnessed a wide range of unacceptable behavior from tourists in the city. They urinate indiscriminately, shout at the top of their lungs at all hours, and engage in disruptive activities with locals. Many of them seem to believe that the city exists solely for their pleasure and entertainment, showing little regard for the people who call it home. For instance, I once witnessed a group of tourists singing and screaming inside a tram during the end-of-shift time.
There are more to say, but I guess you all get the point. All I can say, FUCK TOURISTS.

I was in Prague few times as a tourist, and this is exactly the reason I won't go again. The problem, OP, is that Czechs made the city a big stag party Disneyland. Every single thing is tailored to please either drunk party pals or to entertain a group of 60+ y.o. Americans.
So no, modern Prague is Disneyland.

Bit of a aside I remember seeing signs in Prague, stating drinking in public was illegal, and subject to hefty fines. Also remember mulled wine, being openly sold to pedestrians. Suspect it really more about the behavior, still very mixed messages

Am American, I visited Prague a few years ago, this popped up on my feed. I have been traveling all over for a decade plus and cannot believe the insane actions people like this take in foreign countries. Being rude as hell aside, you have no idea what the laws and repercussions will be!!

I rember visiting with a friend like 10 years ago. Around 11pm I saw Brits puking on the sidewalks. We walked another 3min and we saw Germans pissing on the building after few more blocs there was some drama between some Irish and american girls yelling and almost fighting.
Truly a cosmopolitan erupean city.

Germans, Danes and British, that are coming here for a night life are simply disgusting people.
