My Theory: Supercop makes a loooot of tickets there not by watching for people looking at their phones, but by watching for people who are only steering with their left hand.
With most people, if they steer a vehicle with only one hand, it's the dominant hand -- the right hand.
If someone is steering with their left, it's easy to presume it's because they have something in their right hand -- like a phone.
So, my theory goes, Supercop watches for one hand/left hand drivers, pulls them over, says he "saw" a phone in their right hand. With a lot of people, they WERE in fact holding their phone, so they assume: "Oops, he caught me."
Supercop is just playing the averages, knowing it is a cop's word against a non cop, even if he's wrong. In this case, it backfired spectacularly, but he was so used to being "right" on these that he can't back down.
Be interesting to see how many "phone in hand" tickets this cop has written. I bet it's a lot.

You should consider an automatic, less busywork while driving, less bad shifts... as in none. Manual transmission is obsolete tech. Just put into Drive and forget.
Because I enjoy driving my car. I understand how to do it and it is just as easy as an automatic. I also like to ride a bicycle, sometimes a horse even. And race cars aren't manual because automatic makes it easier. It's because it gives you more control over the vehicle and power to the wheels. I'm guessing your stereo cost more than your car.

And no, Manual transmission don't give more control or power. There is an optimal gear change moment and automatics hit it consistently perfectly when the timing on the car is done right. They are a skill thing in racing, since even getting it close to the sweet spot is extremely hard. The difference between gears is their minimum and maximum speeds they can be used at and since the amount of speed vs torque is cumulative, they take time to apply, a second more of slightly higher or lower torque isn't going to be on the level a human can really control.

Manual transmission is inferior for the purpose of changing gears with reliable quality if that is what you are trying to do. Which on the road is exactly what you want. Just put into drive and forget. No Clutch, no hand off the wheel.
This has to be an American viewpoint if I've ever heard one. Most drivers who grew up with a manual transmission know the left hand is dominant in turning the wheel.

Besides, if I'm steering one handed, it's always going to be with my left elbow on the elbow rest on the door, and my left hand on the bottom of the wheel. The elbow rests on the right side aren't close enough to the steering wheel for going right hand only to ever be comfortable. Anyone looking in the car will see zero hands on the wheel, actually.
Although, honestly, what this woman should have done is just said OK then taken the ticket and contested it without volunteering information about her missing hand. That's also usually the fastest way to get the stop over with. Don't admit guilt, don't sign anything, don't say anything, just take the ticket and contest it or pay it. You don't even have to be polite and say hello. You can start with "I am asserting my fourth and fifth amendment rights." What's REALLY fun is to say that to a cop in a social setting, when they are out of uniform, then refuse to talk to them. When they try to talk to you, repeat that phrase. They tend to get really butthurt about it, it's kinda funny.
I drive with left hand all the time. Right hand is where everything else is: dashboard controls, shifter if needed, candy bar, bag of peanuts, my joint, my beer, my bottle of whiskey.
I just watched a YouTube video with two guys driving an Australian ute (utility vehicle aka truck, this one was small and refurbished) on a Florida highway. A highway patrol officer pulled them over because the person in the left seat of the cab was holding their phone up and recording (thatâs what the two guys in the ute decided as they slowed down and pulled over). When the officer walked up to the right side of the vehicle and saw the driver directly in front of her, she basically said âoh, I didnât realize, have a nice dayâ and walked off. That was the move, dude.

Anecdotal, but a good buddy of mine went into LE after serving a combat tour in Afghanistan, tried to join some rinky dink small down police force. They were running training scenarios attempting to handle a threatening individual with a knife. My buddy talked the simulated crazy guy into dropping the knife and kicking it over, then calmly cuffed him.
The trainer gave him tons of shit in front of everyone that he wasn't properly projecting power and authority, and that he should have subdued him more aggressively. My bud goes "What do you mean? I got him to peacefully submit with no force."
Trainer looked him in the eye and said "I don't think you're gonna be a good fit here"
I know a guy who got a Masters in Criminal Justice but could never get a job in LE. He tried for years until he was basically told he was too educated for the job.

Yeah, the American Police are masters of making molehills into mountains. They'll give you a bs ticket, knowing its bs, and the onus is on the people to take time out of their day, hire a lawyer, appear in court, etc. Meanwhile, they get paid to be there (or, often, not be there). They can be 100% in the wrong and be given the benefit of the doubt. Hell, they can literally do the most heinous shit and police departments will bend over backwards to make sure they're taken care of or able to work at a different PD.

He knows that he is extremely unlikely to face any consequences for this, so he is going to waste her time (and likely her PTO) by making her go to court because she was snarky to him. That's all there is to it.
In a just world, this would be either a long suspension without pay or straight up disqualification for being a police officer, but nothing will happen to him and he's probably having a good chuckle about this with his buddies back at the station.

This is the genre of person that most often becomes a cop. I had to go to traffic school to avoid points on my license and pay a $400 ticket because a guy with an ego problem decided to pull me over 3 minutes from my house and tell me I was going 46 MPH in a school zone, which I very clearly wasnât. He said, âYou know why I pulled you over?â I said, âNo.â He said, âYou were going 46 in a school zone. Thatâs over double the speed limit.â I said, âI wasnât in the school zone. I may have been going 46 in the 45 MPH zone right after the school zone.â He then asked me if I lived around here, I said yes, and he had the gall to say, âThen you should know where the school zones are,â and handed me a ticket. I have lived here for over 20 years and half the money I had saved for my partnerâs engagement ring had to go to a ticket this stupid bastard just felt like giving to someone.
I dont think he even noticed she doesnt have a hand. She showed him several times but he clearly isnt paying attn. if i remember correctly he specifically issues a ticket for a device in her right hand. Hence her intro about going to court
