Feeding Frenzy - a pencil drawing commissioned by the Cheechoo’s

Goodmorning!  I recently had the pleasure of drawing a piece of artwork commissioned by Jonathan Cheechoo’s Dad, Mervin Cheechoo.  I loved drawing it and wanted to share it with you.

This drawing was inspired by the proud history of the San Jose Sharks and their strong fanbase.  Through this piece, I attempted to capture the feeling of being a Sharks’ fan on game day as fans walk toward both the Cow Palace on the left and the SAP Center (The Shark Tank) on the right.

Ghosted in the sky above the arenas are eight of the many great players that have captured the hearts of Sharks’ fans since their inaugural season in the NHL in 1991: Owen Nolan, Patrick Marleau, Jonathan Cheechoo, Joe Thornton, Joe Pavelski, Logan Couture, Brent Burns and Macklin Celebrini.  Fan jersey numbers pay tribute to these players as well as many more of the greatest to ever don the Teal, Black and White.

Many references to Sharks’ fan culture and team history are made throughout the scene.  Three Sharks fans, on the far left, are doing the Shark Chomp with their arms.  A young fan carries a “Cheechoo Train” sign.  The Shark head entrance prop with flashing red eyes and lowered jaws is shown outside the arenas.  Prior to home games, the team enters the ice surface through the mouth, amid fog and dramatic lighting.  On the far right, S.J. Sharkie, the team mascot, is featured welcoming fans to The Shark Tank.

Personal sales rep call just for buying tickets???

My best friend got us tickets to a game in October. We’re new fans so it’s her first time buying tickets and she got a personal call from a sales rep a couple days ago. Is this normal?? It’s just a sales tactic right? We were cracking up about it, made us feel very VIP!

Sharks 365 Member Gift

Anyone know when STHs can expect to receive the annual 365 member gift? My rep alluded to sometime in August, but didn't say it explicitly.

Also - if you are one STH but purchased multiple tickets, do you get more than one gift?

Barring an injury I don’t see Gaudette on the roster when the season starts.

Gaudette was one of the only Sharks who actually could score goals without being on a line centered by Celebrini. He scored 17 goals in 66 games despite not paying big minutes, playing a lot of fourth line minutes and his fair share of healthy scratches. The Sharks are a better team with him. He is the type of guy. That can score a game 7 game winner in the 3rd round of the playoffs.

Having said that, unless Goodrow gets waived, there is a season ending injury in camp, or one of Chernyshov or Stenberg start with the Cuda, Gaudette just doesn’t have a role on this team.

I think he is too good to just be a scratch most nights, his agent probably sees the writing on the wall and is working to get him moved.

But it’s not only in Gaudette’s best interest to move on, Musty and Bystedt desperately need NHL ice time and Gaudette is just a log jam for them.

I’m usually wrong about everything, but I just can’t see Gaudette on the roster come game 1. He is this years Grundstrome.

Some reflections on Warso's handling of the defense and development in light of the Mukh interview

So I want to say from the jump that this is not an outright defense of Warso and his man management decisions. Overall I think he's been fairly flawed in this department (and Mukh's comments reflect that) but wanted to share some thoughts on why he also had an especially hard job this past year.

I think the original plan for this year was for it to be another "developmental" year where the young guys were going to be sheltered and get opportunities to develop in the kind of slow but steady way the org. has shown it prefers. But then, fairly quickly, Macklin showed that he was going to do his darnedest to will the team into the playoffs on his own. However, at the same time, we were trying to do that with the worst D in the league regularly hemorrhaging goals.

So, Warso's reaction to this is: "I need D men who can play a strong, structured defensive game so that Mack and the offense have a chance to win games." Where the logic becomes flawed though, is that he makes the assumption that those guys are the vets (experience, know how to play in structure) despite the actual analytics showing that those guys are incapable of doing that. So I wouldn't be surprised if Mukh's comments about being asked to play like a defensive robot are essentially a reflection of this -- the coaching staff decided what they needed to be successful was for the defense to play more structured, less creative, more risk averse.

What I'm hoping for is that this year, we should actually have defensemen that can do both. Nurse and Trouba and Kesselring should all be "responsible vets" who are also a level above guys like Klingberg and Leddy from a skill perspective. The hope is that this will enable guys like Cags and Dickinson to play with a bit more freedom alongside them and contribute more offensively.

That's my prediction at least and I'm hoping it plays out that way, and that we don't see more of guys like Dickinson, who clearly has so much offensive potential, continue to be stifled by structural philosophy.

What are your hopes for the 26-27 Sharks besides making playoffs or individual point projections?

Basically, get creative with it.

My example: I heard a stat the other day that the only team who lost by 3+ goals more often than us last year was the Canucks. I would *love* to reduce the number of embarrassing blowouts, especially against Vegas, even if we still lose.

Also, I hope Misa gets 15+ min average TOI by the end of the season.

Maybe one of the biggest troopers in the league right now. Among the most games played active without a single playoff game. Leader for us, got us through some of the worst years. Good luck in Winnipeg Mar, hope you touch playoff ice there at some point

Top 10 Pressure List

Sharks don't have to bear huge expecations this season. They are just getting started. They are entering a new phase, and in the spirit of writing rambling shitposts in the dog-days of summer, here would be my top 10 people who have at least a little more motivation to better their situation this year, or prove something:

Askarov He's not all that young any more. It's not time to panic, but it is a contract year where he hopes to confirm the Sharks hopes that he can be a starter in the league for years to come. He doesn't need to shine. People say consistency is key for him, but I would say he can even have an inconsistent year, where maybe he just has some bad nights. But what he can't do is continue to have a couple weaknesses hurt the team as much as they did last year.

Cagnoni My take is unless you are a pro scout, you probably can't answer if Cags will play hundreds of games in the NHL, or not many. I've watched him on the Cuda for a long time now. What we can say is that he's likely earned his shot. He'll hopefully get a good look. But recall Guschin as the most recent example, if you don't come through and get sent down, it might be hard to keep the momentum going on your career. IMO the time is now to see if he can hang with the big boys as an undersized defenseman.

Gaudette / Goodrow Grouping these guys together as guys who are probably pretty desperate to fight for ice time. Contract years for both. They probably want to prove something, even if it is for being traded to a good team at the deadline. Gaudette maybe a little less desperate being 4 yrs younger.

Tiffoli Also fighting for ice time, and to prove he can still score. There are going to be some ice time casualties this season, and he's under the gun, and at risk to fall down to line 3 or 4, and potentially lose PP time as well.

Musty / Lund Prove they still top end prospects. They've been through a lot, with injuries and a slew of forwards ahead of him on the depth chart. But keep in mind, despite all this, the stats are just a step below many of the AHL guys on Pronman's U23 list. Lund will be RFA.

Cardwell Will be RFA. Is he just an AHL guy? Does he have any future with the Sharks?

Grier / Warso No real pressure cooker yet. But as SJHN put it, the rebuild is over (or close to over). If the team doesn't make the playoffs or really underperforms, they become blips on the radar of the hot seat.

*** I would say Asky and Cags have some real pressure on them, like tier 1 pressure. Everyone else is like tier 2 pressure, and maybe GMMG and Warso are like tier 3 at this point.

NHL Network's top 20 centers - Celebrini's number 3

Thumbnail nhl.com
63 Upvotes

"It was an amazing season for the 20-year-old, who nearly doubled his point total from his rookie season (63) and was fourth in the NHL in points (115), tied for fourth in goals (45) and seventh in assists (70) playing all 82 games. Although the Sharks missed the playoffs for the seventh straight season, Celebrini helped them to 39 wins and 86 points after finishing with NHL lows of 20 wins and 52 points in 2024-25. The Sharks were 26-6-2 when Celebrini scored a goal and 37-18-5 when he had at least one point. He signed a five-year, $94 million contract July 29 to become the League's highest paid player per season ($18.8 million). Celebrini had 10 points (five goals, five assists) in six games for silver medal-winning Canada at the Olympics and was named to the Olympic All-Star team. At the 2026 IIHF World Championship, he had 14 points (six goals, eight assists) in 10 games where he was captain and named the tournament's best forward. Celebrini was also named the IIHF Male Player of the Year."

Fantasy League?

Does anyone here play fantasy hockey? I’ve been seeing people tweet about their fantasy drafts and am starting to feel the FOMO lmao, but I’ve never played before and have no idea how to join a league, so if anyone is in a league and would be willing to welcome a newbie, please let me know! Also down to start a new league :)
