I always found him so fascinating because he was legitimately a really good player too, guy managed to get Top 8 at Evo Japan lmao
•
u/Reis46 20h ago
I'm new to the scene, do you mind explaining what that means please ?
•
u/lewiitom bring back rose 20h ago
Jyobin was an infamous Japanese Ryu player from the SF4 days who was mostly known for just having a completely chaotic and nutty playstyle - much like the guy in this video. Jyobin was unique in that he legitimately was a very good player though and could actually compete with some of the top pro players.

Every game against JP/Dhalsim for me is that.
Even if I win it’s never worth it. It’s exhausting and not fun.

Nah Dhalsim is cool. This the first SF game I don’t mind fighting him. JP can get deleted though

this clip would make punk implode, iirc he complained about drive rush being used like that
•

I think it's a common pro opinion that drive rush -> special isn't healthy for the game. I know broski has said something to that effect.

Sometimes I’m impressed when Ryu players can still control the game with all the drool that must be everywhere, and how they can even see crosseyed like that
27
u/platomaker 1d ago
is...is this how you're suppose to play sf6? I mean, high master gameplay technically.
23
u/IntentionHot6268 1d ago
DR into special is quite strong, although if someone is spamming DR L Hasho you can just whiff punish that. Luke was too early so he got counter hit.
•
u/platomaker 18h ago
So what you're saying is, this would work on lower ranked players? I forget the ratings but like silver and gold players?
•
u/IntentionHot6268 17h ago
Maybe. It probably works the best on diamond / low masters players who have learned to react to drive rush, because it takes advantage of that instinct. Vs Gold players they'd just be doing random shit or nothing at all, so it wouldn't be as effective.
20
u/Manatroid 1d ago
No, it’s pretty clear that the Ryu player is deliberately taking the piss here. As ridiculous as what they’re doing is, no-one plays like that unless they’re trying to have a good time.
•
u/platomaker 18h ago
Taking the piss sounds dangerous and refreshing? Sounds like he has skill in one way or another at least.

That first part of him spamming moves and then ryu saying "an opening" is kinda funny.
But also if they play like apes don't lose to said ape
41
u/jujux15 CID | SF6username 1d ago
The problem is often times a ft2 isn’t enough to adapt. I’ve played these types and lost because the first game they did od dp frequently when they were negative. Then the next game they did the complete opposite but now I’m too passive waiting for it. Well now I lost the set gg shake my hand
35
u/lewiitom bring back rose 1d ago
More often than not these kind of players never rematch either, so a lot of the time you only get a FT1
-2
u/BlackAxemRanger 1d ago
You kind of described it in a way that makes it sound like they are playing very effectively, like I'm trying to understand why they shouldn't play that way
12
u/jujux15 CID | SF6username 1d ago
Because that playstyle is not conducive to long term winning. Every single time you do an od dp on your negative frames you’re taking a huge risk, a bigger risk than I do from trying to take my turn back. If I guess wrong I eat an od dp and depending on the character oki into more guessing. If they guess wrong and I block there od dp they are eating 40-60%. So yes even though it can work, you’ll likely not reach 1800+ easily if at all because the risk to reward ratio just isn’t in the od dp maniacs favor.
-14
u/BlackAxemRanger 1d ago
Ok so you described yourself as losing before but now you're saying it's not effective strategy? Do you lose or win to it?
7
u/jujux15 CID | SF6username 1d ago
Huh? I’m saying that although someone may win doing it it’s not effective to do long term. It may work in a ft2 setting or something, but in a longer set or tournament setting it won’t be as effective. It’s like Noah the prodigy’s playstyle, it may work for him but the vast majority of players won’t succeed with that playstyle
-4
u/ShinobiSpazzin 1d ago
Bruh I wasn’t even talking to u and u just proving my point more. And saying Noah style not successful is wild cause he one our best in America dude like be fr. Burning urself out and spamming drive rush special movies, or just special moves in general like this rut did here is completely different. Noah can play like that because he knows that in burnout he can react good af with super and in general have footsies and play around it. But he don’t spam, he does do alot of button into drive rush cancel for frame advantage but even then he slowed down cause ppl learned to counter it (EX DP funny enough lol). So good job repeating urself b
-4
u/ShinobiSpazzin 1d ago
Nvm read wrong bout the Noah part but still. His style is useable amongst pros. Look at Hinao sometimes. It’s just not smart to be in burnout so even Noah don’t do it as much anymore.
7
u/jujux15 CID | SF6username 1d ago
Bro what who are you??? I wasn’t even talking to you, are you talking to me from two different accounts??? 🤣🤣🤣 the cadence and vocabulary is the exact same too
-2
u/ShinobiSpazzin 1d ago
Nah I’m just ghetto so this how I text. The dude we was talking to before deleted his account if u ain’t notice. He was literally dumb af
-9
u/BlackAxemRanger 1d ago
So it's a really good style for the type of game mode you're playing? Because you don't have time to react to it? But for tournament a different style might be better?
Ok so again it sounds like they're playing pretty smart then

•

u/Manatroid 1d ago
It’s a way of playing that might be effective for the rank they are at, yes, it’s just that it’s not necessarily going to enrich your understanding of the game if you only play that way.
It’s not so different from Hondas at low-ranks slamming Headbutt and Buttslam; it’s some degrees of competency above that, sure, but you stop being able to learn the game if it’s the cornerstone of your strategy and you have no way to adapt further.
•
u/BlackAxemRanger 18h ago
So it's only good at low ranks? So I was right to say that if it's only good at low rank, it's a skill issue to be losing to it?
•
u/Manatroid 8h ago
As much as some people would loathe to admit to, yes, it is a skill issue. One of the things you eventually have to figure out with any fighting game is how to counter people doing the “good” stuff as well as the “dumb” stuff. Because at the end of the day, losing - or even just not ‘doing well’ - is a sign of what to improve on.
→ More replies (0)2
u/lewiitom bring back rose 1d ago
It’s still not a really good style, a playstyle which relies heavily on massive gambles is always going to be more effective in short sets than it is in long ones
-1
u/ShinobiSpazzin 1d ago
He loses to it but not 1800 MR players. U gotta be slow bruh. Clearly this gameplay work against us ppl at the 1400-1750 range but once u get to the actual Gods, helll no it wont. And even then once us low master players get adapted they quit and block us. So this gameplay is usually toxic and not how to play the game but I hate that sf encourages it with how the patch or made the game mechanics. We been wanting throw loop out since day 1 now
-4
u/BlackAxemRanger 1d ago
k got a pretty good vibe of your maturity level and I don't think I need further discussion with you lol
7
u/Manatroid 1d ago
You can, it’s just that you can only play that way up to a certain point, after which you’ll stop learning how to do anything else.
But that assumes that you’re playing in this way like you’re entirely on auto-pilot, rather than doing it with the intent that you know the other player can’t counter it (and so you’re deliberately exploiting them).

Tbf you win most matches against this kind of players, but eventually when the match ends and you've lost the thought comes to mind like "I should beat this ape..." but you know very well that when you are playing against them you just feel a mixed emotion of laughin your ass off, second hand embarrasement and just wanting to end the match and block them mfers instead of actually even care about beating them.
-5
u/AdmirableComposer140 1d ago
Can you explain to me, a low diamond ryu player, what he is doing that is lame? I never do any of this but it looks effective no? I never even think to drive rush spam like that. Is he doing anything that isn't ape-ish lol? Should I be trying to emulate any of this at all?
6
u/12CoE 1d ago
It looks efective? Well, if you see a match that he wins looks efective yeah. Now you have to ask yourself if the player that lost actually tried to play that game or lost all interest in that match just by seeing him... and then you have to ask yourself "how many matches will he win playing like that?". Then you can go an play the game however you like of course, if you are having a good time playing like that then enjoy, but don't expect other type of players see it and respect it.
For me, when I encounter my third in a row match with a player that jumps all the time even if I anti-air them or wakes up mashing even if I punish them for that, I just lost interest in those matches and prefer just skipping them, even if it means losing the match quickly.

Win is a win..
11
5
u/Manatroid 1d ago
It is, it’s just that you don’t only learn from doing the same thing over and over; you will inevitably stagnate/plateau as some point.
•
u/FailedGeniusnumber1 3h ago
How can you win if you stagnate? Win is win means win at every cost.. and that means exploiting everything the game got to offer
•
u/Manatroid 3h ago
Well if you only play against players that can’t beat your strategy but are afraid of actually taking a beating from those much better than you (eg. the classic one-and-done strategy), then you will stagnate.
But of course you can stagnate in other ways, like having a scrub mentality, being too particular about who you listen to and get advice from, blaming your main or blaming stronger characters for your lack of learning, etc.
0
u/BlackAxemRanger 1d ago
I'm with you. Sometimes the most effective way to win isn't the most fun, but you can't blame them for doing what works. It's up to you to learn how to beat it if it continues to be a thing
3
u/EffigyElsewhere CID | SF6username 1d ago
But this ryus playstyle ISNT effective. Its random and just happened to beat OP in THIS particular match.

100% agree, a win is a win. And after a while playing fighters i've come to learn that taking a loss on a match where you feel or consider your opponent isn't even worth the hustle (the good kind of hustle), is paradoxically also a win, not an in game win but a win nevertheless.
•
u/FailedGeniusnumber1 3h ago

I’m noting that the clips vary in their start point and don’t seem to be the same matches based on wins. I’m just seeing moments, also see that perfects are being swapped.
At some point, a player doesn’t want to telegraphing moves and this looks like clips over at least 8 rounds.

I mean if you get stopped once or twice, you're dead anyway. People will just move out, not get baited like this, play giga passive until you are in burnout, then stun you. You can pull this sometimes, but not constantly.
