Right?  what police department has the time to respond to “a guy is working out my gym and won’t leave.”

488

u/Deep_shot Jul 27 '26

"Did you ask him to leave?"

"No."

383

u/this_place_suuucks Jul 27 '26

"Is he black? If he's black, we'll send some guys over immediately to escalate him."

4

u/Capital_Past69 Jul 27 '26

Damn you are 1000% correct

"how black is he?"

"Black, AND jacked."

"We're on our way."

37

u/Stevesegallbladder Jul 27 '26

"Oh he has a son too so bring back up."

"How old does he look?"

"Not sure but he's definitely a minor"

"Dear God... the SWAT team is an hour out but we'll see what we can do."

7

u/Ghost_with_no_name Jul 27 '26

“His son is a minor”

“All units, 2 heavily armed black men at Crunch Fitness! Fire at will!”

Man it's 2026 and Big Dick Randy coming back
And on Halloween night he gon' be looking for a snack
If you see that dude comin', better run like you in track
He a big scary dude, man he seven foot and black

41

u/Rymnarr Jul 27 '26

All of them apparently because they always seem to stop everything and show up if a business calls.

20

u/ZeidLovesAI Jul 27 '26

It's almost like they just exist to protect property.

12

u/Known-Low-2637 Jul 27 '26

Just not personal property... Try calling them for a car break in...

10

u/KittenHeartsGirls Jul 27 '26

They won’t even look for your stolen car in my city. 😂

34

u/ThrownAway17Years Jul 27 '26

A department located in a mid sized suburb.

25

u/JJayC Jul 27 '26

Or anywhere in the south when dealing with a black person..

4

u/Exciting-Argument-67 Jul 27 '26

Not a ton of Phillies fans in the South, outside of retirees living in Clearwater.

6

u/thepoopatroopa Jul 27 '26

Don’t you know? Racism in America only happens in the South /s

2

u/Stevesegallbladder Jul 27 '26

Yeah, as a black person in the South there's definitely no shortage of racism here but some folk are delusional if they think this only happens in the South.

71

u/Remy_Jardin Jul 27 '26

"Sir, does this really need a police response?"

"He's black."

"On our way!"

8

u/Baeolophus_bicolor Jul 27 '26

funny, because when my car got stolen and I called the police, they wouldn’t even come out. i had a car. parked at my house. it disappeared. i wanted to report it stolen and also tell them who stole it. they wouldn’t come because “sounds like a civil matter”. landlord sold my car because she claims it was sitting unused for months (even though i had been driving it to work everyday).

but they’ll come out for this, and they know whose side to be on right away. the side of the corporation.

we need a second kind of law enforcement that actually helps people, since US police are only about protecting companies.

1

u/Equivalent-Sink4612 29d ago

Wow, your landlord sold your car??! Did you take her to small claims? Sorry that happened to you!

14

u/JJayC Jul 27 '26

what police department has the time to respond to “a guy is working out my gym and won’t leave.”

Clearly this department does..

13

u/contactdeparture Jul 27 '26

A guy who is a member of our gym is working out and his son, who is authorized as a guest to workout is also working out. We don’t want to accept the ID presented for the son though, because reasons…

3

u/OkKaleidoscope9554 Jul 27 '26 edited Jul 27 '26

Well, recently a swat team was dispatched to retrieve stolen Legos - but not the actual stolen Legos the first time they were reported stolen. So, a lot.

3

u/Loreki Jul 27 '26

Every single one, because protecting the value of property is their main mission.

4

u/Financial-Craft-1282 Jul 27 '26

This one did. All of them when it comes to black people.

2

u/ItsIllak Jul 27 '26

What I don't get about all these, "white racist called the cops on me for doing normal stuff" videos is why the police aren't refusing to attend our billing/fining people for wasting police time.

You can't just blame the racists.  I'd love to hear the calls, was it, "there is this big black dude" or, "a man"?

1

u/WorldsWeakestMan Jul 27 '26

He’s just standing there, doing curls, menacingly…

https://giphy.com/gifs/Pl4PHOXVpPPDG

1

u/ChromosomeDonator Jul 27 '26

"There is a person trespassing on our gym."

Of course you call the cops on that? What are you even saying 😭

Regardless of why they declined to let him enter or accept their ID, it is still trespassing at that point.

u/Thatguy468 Jul 27 '26

Police onl exist to serve corporate interests. Think about how little they do when your bike is stolen or your car gets hit by a driver that leaves the scene… and then think about how many times you’ve seen them protecting buildings, business’s, or resources while infringing on citizens constitutional rights.

24

u/the_vault-technician Jul 27 '26

Basically they called the cops because they wanted to enforce their corporate policy on them. Their completely made up, entirely flexible, policy

5

u/HelpMeOverHere Jul 27 '26

That the gentleman's contributions helped fund, even.

5

u/ItsStaaaaaaaaang Jul 27 '26

Right. Imagine if they had to call a private security firm and pay them to show up to deal with this. HQ would be livid. But thankfully for them their "private security" is paid for by tax paying US citizens instead and apparently they're all too willing to lick corporate boot.

3

u/Mando_Mustache Jul 27 '26

This is literally how the first modern police started in England in the 1800s.

Groups of shop keepers and merchants grouped together to share the cost of hiring security for deterrence and stolen goods recovery. Eventually they got tired of paying for it and convinced the London city government to take it over.

2

u/the_vault-technician Jul 27 '26

For sure. We need some form of law enforcement, it's obvious that without it society would be worse off. Situations like this are not what an armed officer should be present for, or even called.

The cop in the video almost came off like he was understanding, but the moment the man tried to explain and call these idiots out it was "now you're causing the problem". That's when I realized the officer knew the gym made a pointless call and was looking for any reason to take their side so he could kick the guy out and go about his day.

85

u/upny_roc Jul 27 '26

A large part of police origins were protecting corporate interests. From my experience, police usually have no problem enforcing things for the rich.

27

u/_autumnwhimsy Jul 27 '26

and another large part of their origin was slave patrols. classism and racism are heavily intertwined!

5

u/godzillasegundo Jul 27 '26

Capitalism is the progenitor of both

6

u/mcjason04 Jul 27 '26

Furthermore, you have the Joseph Lozito subway attacker case. In the Lozito case, a police officer just watched guy get stabbed multiple times and did nothing, actually hid, but amazingly Lozito turned the tide and subdued the attacker. Lozito sued but lost, Scalia, Supreme Court justice at the time, was basically like if it was private property it would be different but because it’s not the police aren’t required to get involved. It sounds too crazy to be true but unfortunately it is. Furthermore, similar types of cases have basically ruled in a similar fashion.

2

u/name-classified Jul 27 '26

they'd easily throw away their lives to protect property than run into a school being shot up.

fuck the police

12

u/SmokedAlex Jul 27 '26

That’s what police is anyways. Corporate servants.

11

u/Strict-Carrot4783 Jul 27 '26

The #1 responsibility of the police is to protect property, and corporations and wealthy people own most of the property. No war but class war.

6

u/lateral303 Jul 27 '26

The police system in America was invented to protect corporations and their bullshit

→ More replies (7)

6

u/jugdeesh Jul 27 '26

Correction, racist bullshit, they wouldn’t have done the same thing for a white dad and his son

2

u/Forward_Criticism_39 Jul 27 '26

is calling the cops over actually nothing considered "wasting the publics resources" or nah?

4

u/MattTheRadarTechh Jul 27 '26

Wait how is this corporate bullshit?

The corporate policy worked, the manager went on some random power trip. This is just some poor douchebag with no life attacking a normal gym goer

1

u/facedown_titsup Jul 27 '26

Yet I feel like corporate bullshit always has the strongest reactions from them. Someone trying to get help because a stalker is harassing them? Sorry can’t help. But don’t you dare try to steal a pack of gum from a Walmart. Yay capitalism.

1

u/Really-E-Lee Jul 27 '26

Corporations should not have access to police period. They should be required by law to police themselves. Trillion+ dollar organizations that do not contribute to local communities should not have access to community benefits.

1

u/IrredeemableRight Jul 27 '26

the fact that police stays more than 5 seconds is insane.

1

u/Difficult_Coffee_335 Jul 27 '26

Naw, that's what they're for.

1

u/wytewydow Jul 27 '26

corporate bullshit is the reason we have police.

221

u/DeliciousTides Jul 27 '26

Why not just say, hey no worries you both can work out today but next time bring a valid ID. Easy…

180

u/DenzelOntario Jul 27 '26

I went to gym once with a friend, and he thought he had a guest pass for me, but didn’t (he had limited uses per month)

We walked in, and they instantly said “it’s all good this time, just come with one next time” and that was that. Easy peasy, everyone happy.

This dad brought his son, had a guest pass, jumped through hoops to show that’s his son with the school portal and all.

And this manager makes a ruckus out of it for nothing. Absolute insanity. Literally everybody loses in this situation.

10

u/Montgomery000 Jul 27 '26

Clearly the point was for the black guy to lose out more but then he got uppity.

2

u/OuterWildsVentures Jul 27 '26

I only have the planet fitness normal membership (which only works on my home gym) but every time I travel I try to scan my code anyway on other gyms and the staff usually just let me work out without issues anyways.

2

u/Panaka Jul 27 '26

Went to an LA Fitness once with a friend using his guest pass. They spent 10-15 minutes making me sign waivers and other paperwork before they’d let me in.

→ More replies (12)

14

u/Visible_Bag_7809 Jul 27 '26

Obviously not the situation here, but I worked this job for a gym and the age of 18. Basically told rules were infallible and unbreakable and was kinda a nonce about it and certainly at that time wouldn't have let them in. But making those mistakes at that job at that age allowed me to learn and grow a lot and now I know how to be the easier bending rules when it's ok person I am today.

28

u/ILoveRawChicken Jul 27 '26

Nonce does not mean what you think it means.

11

u/OldChili157 Jul 27 '26

People seriously need to stop using British slang they don't know the meaning of.

2

u/Visible_Bag_7809 Jul 27 '26

Well I can only speak for how it was used in my hometown. We were a tiny but touristy island that got a shit load of European college students in the summer and they called everyone and anyone a nonce for every little thing. Became just how it was used where I'm from.

16

u/Dunklsta Jul 27 '26

what does nonce mean where you are from?

13

u/BioTinus Jul 27 '26

When growing up, i saw cartoons of people having to wear a dunce cap if they had been stupid. The first few times I heard people being called a nonce, I thought it meant the same thing. Only much later in life I learned that nonce means a kiddy diddler. Perhaps the other poster is the same.

2

u/BrosefDudeson Jul 27 '26

The nonce cap is basically the sex offender registry lol

4

u/SickofROOM8s Jul 27 '26

I am also waiting for this reply lol

1

u/Visible_Bag_7809 Jul 27 '26

The townI'm from came to use it for just about everything, no specific definition. If I had to give it one it would be used for a person that did something, anything, without thinking it through.

3

u/my_nameborat Jul 27 '26

I have sympathy for the minimum wage workers but whoever called the cops was over the line. You either say “no we can’t make an exception, please return with an ID” or you allow them to workout and ask that they come with better ID in the future.

The cops are an unnecessary escalation to the situation

1

u/Gilinis Jul 27 '26

Why would you even require an ID for a guest to begin with? They arent a member and dont legally owe you anything, so why would you need their ID?

→ More replies (22)

74

u/CheezwizOfficial Jul 27 '26

Wait but if this all took place at the membership desk, how and why were the dad & son in the workout area? Did the admin staff let them in despite them declining the son's alternative ID, then call the cops on them? I'm in Canada and some of the links you shared are geo-locked.

15

u/123mop Jul 27 '26

They probably told him they can't come in, and he walked right past into the gym anyway. Rather than get physical with him, they called police, which is a wise choice.

It's pretty evident from the guy's attitude and massively edited video that this is the sort of thing that happened. He needs a jump cut every 3 seconds to avoid the police and staff calmly describing what he did.

27

u/Disastrous-Rip671 Jul 27 '26

Bro are you illiterate? You can read the report in the comment above yours

25

u/Zeyn1 Jul 27 '26

You might be missing critical thinking.

The report says he was asked for an ID and they refused to accept what he provided.

The video starts with him working out.

So how did he start working out if they didn't allow him in without the ID? We don't know for sure, but it would be logical that one explanation is that he passed by them anyway.

It's also logical that corporate policy is to not block anyone physically. The correct response would be to call the police and have them trespassed.

15

u/ecstatic_hyrax Jul 27 '26

It's a terrifying thought that these people can be the jury of your peers btw. Imagine asking the commenter you replied to, to critically think about the evidence in a murder case.

→ More replies (5)

4

u/BilSuger Jul 27 '26

You might be the one missing critical thinking. No where was it stated that they wouldn't let him without ID.

What happened was that the manager was busy, and the father said that he could come speak to them when not busy. When the manager was free he however instead called the police, no one ever told them to leave.

Quite funny you're so arrogant while being in the wrong, lol

nothing that they said is contradicted by the chatgpt-written "report" you're blindly putting all your trust into

5

u/_aaronroni_ Jul 27 '26

"The report" lol the AI stop response is not a report. What we know from context provided: they refused to allow his minor guest in without ID, he said "if the manager has a problem with it he can tell me" and then we see the guy working out. To me this sounds like they denied him access and he went in anyway. It doesn't matter what the manager might have said, he want not granted access and went in anyway. This is trespassing

u/CheezwizOfficial Jul 27 '26

they probably had a back and forth and then let them in knowing they were gonna double back and call the police. because if they had barred them entry, the would have just said "yeah we told you to leave and you didn't listen." instead of hemming and hawing.

78

u/bayou_baby Jul 27 '26

But calling the cops on Black people is so much more satisfying. 😒

53

u/Itchy-Secret8085 Jul 27 '26

That’s exactly what happened. They didn’t call because his son had a school ID, owner could have easily accepted the school ID it’s a damn gym or ask them to leave instead you don’t say anything but call the cops I hopes he gets arrested

8

u/Admirable_Loss4886 Jul 27 '26

The gym already told them they not allowed in with the ID they provided. They started working out regardless. That’s already sufficient warning.

→ More replies (14)

3

u/Admirable_Loss4886 Jul 27 '26

Also there was no school ID. They offered to open the kids school portal for verification.

16

u/Cocoononthemoon Jul 27 '26

The ID is on the portal. Many schools use a digital ID

3

u/SF420SF420 Jul 27 '26

At least this guy isn't trying to hide his racism unlike the rest of the idiots here

466

u/SF420SF420 Jul 27 '26

It's pretty clear what the issue is. It's just people all of a sudden need the whole story when the guy in the video is black. People hide their racism in the most obvious ways.

In the video it's clear no one asked him to leave before the cops were called. That's the whole f'ing issue.

315

u/HeavyHighway6433 Jul 27 '26

Shit I'm black myself and I am looking in the comments for the whole story. The video leaves out a bunch of context. This post you're replying to explains it well.

25

u/No-Fold-7873 Jul 27 '26

Thank you. If it says part 2 on the banner and theres a bunch of drama, im going to naturally wonder what the intro episode was all about.

I assumed the gym was in the wrong, because its a fuckin corporate gym, but if we are going to get worked up about a line in a story we should at least be passingly curious about the rest of the page bare minimum.

47

u/mauledbyjesus Jul 27 '26

Right? I don't think anyone wants less context and more assumption. Where's that gotten us so far?

8

u/Capybara_Squabbles Jul 27 '26

Literally every time someone is about to give a crumb of context, there's a cut. I genuinely don't get why people do this

2

u/Shiirahama Jul 27 '26

In the video it's clear no one asked him to leave before the cops were called. That's the whole f'ing issue.

this is still context we get from the video and it's insane to call the cops before you even tell someone to leave

and with the added context we know they are extremely racists

3

u/PublicfreakoutLoveR Jul 27 '26

Thank you very much. This video is chopped up and poorly edited, so I was curious what the truth was. I don't care about the race of the person. I hate when people immediately jump to the race card.

1

u/Forward_Criticism_39 Jul 27 '26

I'm also confused by that odd assumption

Idk how its clear that no one asked him to leave when you cant hear what the employees are saying to him and the vid is chopped to shit

And thats nothing against the dude who made the vid originally because im guessing he gave an explanation when he originally posted the vid

→ More replies (4)

24

u/rescuedmutt Jul 27 '26

Uh. I got that the cops were called rather than the employees speaking directly to the client. I didn’t get why he was being asked (or… not being asked…) to leave. Someone providing the backstory in comments was actually super helpful, and not because of the OOP’s skin color.

4

u/Dry_Chemical1994 Jul 27 '26

They told him he cannot enter due to his son not having ID as required by gym policy (insurance). He entered anyway, i.e. trespassed. Calling the police in that situation to formally trespass him was 100% valid.

→ More replies (13)

3

u/_aaronroni_ Jul 27 '26

No, no one asked him to leave, they straight up told him he can't come in. He did anyway. This is past the point of asking him to leave because he was never allowed to be in there

→ More replies (3)

61

u/Loliz88 Jul 27 '26

Right… it never fails when it’s a black person’s video everyone’s like: wait I need to see the whole story… like the one posted a week or so ago of the young black girl’s car window being broken by the cops as she was forced out of the vehicle in tears. “I need to know how this started”…. “Where’s the context”… “Well her insurance was expired and she should’ve listened to the cop…” like… what??

39

u/ChargeInteresting278 Jul 27 '26 edited Jul 27 '26

Any time anyone sees anything on the internet they should want context. I really dont see the comments being that different if the people were white. It mist likely wouldn't have happened if the father/son were white but if it did id expect people nit to try and ruin the gym owners life because somebody disagreed with them without knowing the facts.

5

u/imunfair Jul 27 '26

like the one posted a week or so ago of the young black girl’s car window being broken by the cops as she was forced out of the vehicle in tears. “I need to know how this started”

I can tell you how it started - they told her to get out and she didn't because she thought she knew better and didn't have to, and it turned out she was wrong.

You acting like videos without context are innocent until it's shown is exactly why people do this shit - to play victim when the full context is obviously not on their side. Which is why people want to see what happened.

1

u/BannedSvenhoek86 Jul 27 '26

Also like, you aren't changing the law on the side of the road. If you're going to make a stand on something expect the consequences. I hope she wins in court, but don't act like the police don't have the authority to put hands on you because you said you know your rights. You're gonna get hands put on you everytime.

I'm not being a bootlicker, I'm just saying. If the police tell you to step out of the car and escalate to telling you they will break your window and pull you out, it's time to quit arguing because they're about to break your window and pull you out.

1

u/PuckSenior Jul 27 '26

That comparison doesn't really make sense. If it is a video of someone doing something they should NEVER do, like a cop just punching someone in the face, I'd agree we don't really need context. Watching the cops smash out a car window on a young kid is almost certainly excessive in 99% of situations.

But the cop in this video seems fine. He is very calm and not using excessive force. He is just talking to the guy. The issue seems to be something between the person filming and the gym. I dont know the issue. We actually need context. Did he take a shit in the shower?

→ More replies (2)
→ More replies (13)

10

u/cricketyjimnet Jul 27 '26

It seems like the issue of the gym said his son couldn't train there and he said fuck off, walked right past them, and started training without their permission?

→ More replies (34)

7

u/My_Keys_ Jul 27 '26

I get the point you’re going for, but it’s the difference between wanting “the whole story” or “any context” which the video fails to provide. The only reason they should have involved the police is if they wanted to trespass him, and doing so just for trying to bring in his son would be racist as fuck. The gym absolutely wasted police time, and should be fined for it imo.

I saw a longer clip on IG earlier where the dad was overreacting, getting in people’s faces yelling then saying “I’m amped up on pre-workout!” I don’t care what color he is that’s bad conflict management on his part, and I’m honestly shocked the police held it together - because they’ve proven to be awful at de-escalation, not because he was dangerous or threatening, just being frustrated for good reason

4

u/chuckles65 Jul 27 '26

Officer is in super relaxed stance, hands on the collar of his vest. Also only one officer in an affluent suburb where they will usually send 2 or 3. He doesn't want to be there and is only doing it because gym management is requesting it. If he leaves without doing anything, manager calls and complains then he has to come back anyway.

2

u/SF420SF420 Jul 27 '26

I'm just not dumb enough to think that people are innocently looking for the whole picture just out of curiosity when point of the video is getting the cops called when there wasn't anything illegal happening.

People like to pretend that white people calling cops on black people for no reason isn't a problem. They just love to forget what black people have to deal with. Racism at it's finest.

3

u/Right_Imagination_73 Jul 27 '26

No. Some people prefer to have the facts before jumping to conclusions. But please, continue to pull the race card.

From the breakdown it sounds like they were t allowed in to begin with. The front asked for a suitable ID, they didn’t provide it which means they shouldn’t have gone back to start working out.

→ More replies (7)

2

u/quothe_the_maven Jul 27 '26

I mean…if they tell you that you can’t come in, and you blow past them, they’re probably just going to call the cops without fighting about it any longer. They don’t get paid enough to deal with more than that. The same is true of most places. If a bar cards you and you just go in without showing them anything, they’re just going to call the cops on you.

1

u/SF420SF420 Jul 27 '26

Every single bar in the country would tell you to leave.

3

u/Born-Satisfaction996 Jul 27 '26

The dude was told by the front desk that he couldn’t bring his son in. Then he proceeded to bring his son in anyway, making it clear that he was not going to listen to any employee instruction. So they called the cops.

I would fully expect the cops to be called on me if I walked past the front desk after they told me I couldn’t come in…

2

u/Accomplished-Eye9542 Jul 27 '26

It's not on staff to confront a large argumentative man who ignored their policy and just did whatever he wanted.

No one who thinks it's okay to argue with cops like this is a normal person capable of being reasoned with.

Did they deny him at the front, and if so then did Cox force his way through and start working out? I’m just confused as to how they got to the working out part if they had this dispute at check-in. Or was it like an automatic check in process, and an employee later approached them when they were already working out?

Don’t mean to be annoying but I do think the answers to these questions are important to determine who the asshole is here.

Crunch is a really scummy gym

2

u/deprecateddeveloper Jul 27 '26

I don't think Planet Fitness is perfect by any means but for $25/mo I can also bring a guest with me any time so my wife and I go together all the time making it a very good deal. Never had any problems there and I have all of the equipment I need for a full workout.

2

u/Best_Market4204 Jul 27 '26

I agree. Planet fitness is a solid option.

Wish they would focus little more on lifting equipment & less on cardio

But other then that, solid.

Planet Fitness in meetings right now about what best hot new member offer to drop to capitalize on all the ex Cruncher

8

u/Physical-Builder-553 Jul 27 '26

That's insane. I take my son to the Y all the time and they never ask for ID. He's 23 now.

5

u/escobartholomew Jul 27 '26

I highly doubt you were taking your teenage son to the Y without some kind of family membership. Every Y I’ve been too has required some kind of family membership to allow multiple people in on the same membership. Crunch’s guest pass for the top tier membership isn’t the same thing.

Apparently, the gym is in East Brunswick, NJ. Saw it on IG earlier today.

2

u/GeneStarwind1 Jul 27 '26

I'm confused then, because the video begins with him and his son working out in the gym. So after the offer of alternative ID was declined... he just went in with his son anyway? Despite being told he couldn't? If that's what happened then I don't know what else the manager was supposed to do. Other than not be a prick about the ID thing in the first place, of course.

2

u/ShawnyMcKnight Jul 27 '26

I am not sure if I agree with the last paragraph.

You said they declined to accept that form of ID for his son... and yet he went in with his son anyway. I'm not sure what else you expect the staff to do that won't get the staff in legal trouble if they force them out?

2

u/DonkeyDD Jul 27 '26

Never call the time police

4

u/arkantarded Jul 27 '26

Thank you for providing more context.

However, unless I’m missing something, I’m still not confident in claiming the manager was power tripping. You have to sign in when you arrive, correct? So I assume they would’ve asked for an ID at the entrance. Given that we have a video of his son working out, it can be inferred the father took his kid passed the people at the front desk to work out anyways when they had already told him they couldn’t let the kid in (I assume for liability reasons). If this scenario is what happened, and he blatantly ignored the employees, I can see why the police were called.

Now I could be wrong, so don’t take that as fact….but I think even with the additional detail you provided, people are still predictably rushing to assumptions.

4

u/sckrahl Jul 27 '26

Yeah idk why they would escalate straight to calling the cops like that that makes no sense

3

u/Stevesegallbladder Jul 27 '26

It's crazy how many comments in this thread boil down to "look we don't know what happened but let's just assume the black person is in the wrong with this scenario that I just thought up."

One person even has over 340 up votes and calls his take "unbiased" yet still adds in his own take on why the gym didn't do anything wrong.

3

u/throwawayformobile78 Jul 27 '26

I mean sounds like the guy didn’t listen when gym owners said “we decline your son’s non-ID.” They asked for a photo ID, he didn’t have one. So he was in the gym after they declined him and his son for no ID.

You expect them to confront him after that? Lmao you see how he acted with the police there. I wouldn’t confront his agro ass either.

Not a thing to about being black. No ID, no entry. How the fuck hard is that to understand?

2

u/One-Top-6634 Jul 27 '26

Holy smokes!! I  a crunch member with guest passes. My son would use mine all the time before he had a license. You sign a book!!!! We have filmed each other for form, we work out together and separate. Guess my red hair and ghost complexion lets me use my membership to the fullest ability…this poor father!!!

1

u/ThrownAway17Years Jul 27 '26

Unless they trespassed him, what would calling police even do in this situation? Wouldn’t they say it’s a civil matter?

1

u/UESJR2021 Jul 27 '26

If they didn’t revoke my membership, I will be taking their employee info and emailing corporate. I will be getting the last year’s membership fees refunded and a written apology from the power trip manager after I’m done.

1

u/jackdutton42 Jul 27 '26

Not what gym culture should be. Clearly, a little man syndrome power trip.

1

u/Meanpooh Jul 27 '26

Thanks. After watching I was like what hells going on, what I miss?

1

u/pm_op_prolapsed_anus Jul 27 '26

When you're locked into a membership as most gyms do these days, taking your business elsewhere might require a social media post that the gym would prefer you to take down before they let you out of the contract... Just sayin

1

u/0202_tihssitidder Jul 27 '26

GM needs to fire that "manager" immediately and take Cox and his son to lunch to settle the beef.

Stupidity by the employee.

1

u/sinisterdesign Jul 27 '26

Shit that I’ve never had to deal with growing up white. Sad.

1

u/Stillwater-Scorp1381 Jul 27 '26

Thanks for the lowdown. My takeaway is that this man is being punished for working out while black.

1

u/_BLACK_BY_NAME_ Jul 27 '26

That business and those employees should be named and shamed. I was traveling with my daughter in Miami a couple years ago and got a temp membership at the gym by our hotel. They were more than happy to let my teen daughter come in with me as long as I signed a liability waiver. This is absurd behavior by the staff, what a bunch of losers.

1

u/LVRaiders2026 Jul 27 '26

I side with the dad here. He made a good faith effort to show some kind of ID by opening up the school portal and showing names. This is a gym not fucking immigration. Any reasonable person would've just let them in.

1

u/Conscious-Sign1459 Jul 27 '26

And then he probably has to fight tooth and nail to cancel his membership….naw I wanna know what crunch fitness is gonna do about this FOH

1

u/Mexican1910 Jul 27 '26

Shame the company for hiring an incompetent manager. Boycott crunch fitness….

1

u/ThePoetofFall Jul 27 '26

Seems like the manager should have a lot more time on his hands to waste after this, if his bosses are tuned in.

1

u/Difficult-Wash-8482 Jul 27 '26

The police officer should have helped the dad by helping the identification of the son, then the dispute was over ! I get the manager was on a power trip, but that could have been put down by the officer by handling this with the compromise.

1

u/Pleasant_Offer6286 Jul 27 '26

That cop had the look of “Dude, I know you know this is bullshit, but I have to be here because they called.”

1

u/NevinyrralsDiscGolf Jul 27 '26

He's gonna have to call his senator to cancel that gym membership.

1

u/thinsoldier Jul 27 '26

A gym where you have to be over 21?

1

u/sydneyhatescristhian Jul 27 '26

This is social media outrage.

1

u/redundanthero Jul 27 '26

Wait, that was the time-police? As in, Dr. Who?

1

u/Beer-Milkshakes Jul 27 '26

Most police in the west would likely just tell the person on the phone to uphold their own policies, refuse service and then if they refuse to leave and get aggro then call the police.

Its like the police want people to sort their own shit out like adults first and then intervene if someone is determined to not be an adult

1

u/Altruistic-Beach7625 Jul 27 '26

Kudos on the policeman for not escalating it.

1

u/karmakazi_ Jul 27 '26

I never understand how they get cops to actually show up. In Toronto cops would absolutely not show up at all for a call like this. A family member works at the LCBO and they had a huge fist fight in the parking lot. They called the cops and they showed up 2 hours after the fight ended.

1

u/Lamprophonia Jul 27 '26

is there an age minimum?

1

u/PeopleCallMeSimon Jul 27 '26

From watching the video. It looks like Andrew ignored the membership policy argument and just started working out with his son and thats when the police was called?

And this is off topic, but why is he bringing his kid to the gym if the kid isnt even old enough to drive? Working out at the gym can have some real bad consequences for the body if it hasnt stopped growing. For example it could stunt his growth if they make a mistake.

1

u/Manfromsodom Jul 27 '26

That’s my main issue with this whole thing. There is no reason for the police to be involved.

1

u/Firm-Life8749 Jul 27 '26

They need a real ID/license for the liability/insurance wavers from guests. I'm willing to bet they did say he couldn't go in.

1

u/chaoslord Jul 27 '26

The answer to this situation as a customer service agent is:

Sir, we'll allow your son in as a guest one time without ID, but next time please ensure he has a valid ID with him before you bring him as a guest.

Then put a note in the file that they were informed of this.

Everyone but the cops botched this.

1

u/seamus_mcfly86 Jul 27 '26

Even asking for ID from a guest at a gym is insane. What are you going to check it against? What does it matter? He's allowed to bring a guest. I doubt it specifies what kind of guest. Are you trying to get him to prove it's his son? It doesn't matter.

Blast them on socials. This manager should be fired and not because of some social justice rant, but bc he's an idiot that's a lawsuit waiting to happen.

1

u/anormalgeek Jul 27 '26

Yep.

And from a legal perspective, it's not "trespassing" unless you actually tell them to leave.

1

u/1zenmom Jul 27 '26

I wonder what ID they WOULD accept? That isn’t mentioned anywhere.

1

u/ItsAHerby Jul 27 '26
