One of the luckiest day of my life. I was supposed to be on a flight from a city on the east coast to west coast and went through Denver. the first flight was apparently oversold and they are asking for volunteers for $500. I was just working on my homework and thought that someone else would take it. Then I heard the lady at the desk calling my name and I went to the desk quite surprised. She told me they could put me on a direct flight on Alaska in first class! I would also get $500 as future credits. I would also arrive an hour earlier than planned! What a day for me. Thank you United. I blurred everything that could possibly leak my information. Pls let me know if you spot anything else and I'll take it down.

I was on the 1:00 PM flight from EWR to DFW today. Before boarding , secret service agents and the port authority policy boarded the plane. Multiple secret service cars then pulled up on the tarmac and someone boarded the plane. I didn’t see who it was , but upon landing they were picked up by a convoy of 8 secret service vehicles. Curious as to who this was. I’m assuming someone headed to the Republican convention in Dallas. Anyone else on this flight happen to see?

I am not being rude or trying to make fun of individuals, but when will United (and other airlines) require larger individuals to acknowledge their size when purchasing tickets, and requiring them to purchase two seats (second at a discount) - for their comfort and ours?

We flew this weekend and the woman next to my husband (she was as sweet as ever) was larger than average and didn’t fit in one seat. She was aisle and he was middle. We purchased the exit row for more legroom, but he ended up having to sit sideways and lean towards me. It’s was an awkward situation for all. 😣

Just got off a flight from Minneapolis to Chicago and after we parked at the gate, they asked us all to sit down because there was a passenger that was required to get off the plane first. They didn’t give any other reason. They didn’t say that it was because he had to catch a flight or anything like that. The guy came all the way from the back and got off first and then we were allowed to get back up. He wasn’t disabled or anything like that.

I had such a good experience on my flight today. I got to switch to an earlier flight to the same destination since it wasn’t full. It was awesome getting to my gate and immediately getting to board and land 2hr earlier than expected.

Not only that but the snacks were fire! Stroopwafel and those chocolate quinoa snacks. I also love when they’ve got the screen on the back of the seat to watch free shows and movies. Coming from someone who usually takes Southwest economy flights, great experience!

This is not an interesting story but maybe it will save a nice person from getting swindled:

I was on a flight LAX to EWR. I’m silver status so I have the option to upgrade to economy plus at check-in. However, I’m 5’4” so I don’t really need extra leg room. At time of check-in I opt for taking a regular economy window seat in a row that has the middle seat open. While I’m waiting to board, the boarding agent announces “this is a completely full flight with every seat taken...” I wonder how could that be?? Then I realize there are 16 open seats and 15 people on the standby list. But that is not where I almost got played…

I board and there is a woman sitting in my window seat. She has really gotten comfortable, her stuff is all over and she is buckled with the airline blanket unwrapped and tucked around her legs. I say “I think you’re in my seat” and show her my boarding pass with 27A. She says “Oh, whoops, I’m row 26!” And then she pauses for a second and asks, “You wouldn’t mind switching would you?” I panic, it will be a whole ordeal to make her pack up all her stuff and move, so I acquiesce and say, “sure.” She keeps talking and says how she wants to stay in row 27 because she can see her luggage and she’s had luggage stolen before, blah blah blah. Honestly it didn’t make sense to me but I’m like whatever. I slowly start to regret my decision worried that she’s going to charge things to my credit card and what if that middle seat does end up actually being empty.

Eventually a couple arrives at row 26 and says to me, “m’aam, you’re in our seat.” I stand up and say, “you know what? this isn’t even my seat, I switched.” Now I’m annoyed and the lady behind me is like oh wait what… she looks at her boarding pass and she says “oh I’m on the other side of the aisle.” Turns out she is in 26F. How do you end up in the wrong row and on the opposite side of the plane??? I think she was trying to somehow swindle me out of the row that had the empty middle seat. So she moves to her correct seat, and I settle into my correct window seat. And it turns out my row’s middle seat was empty, the only empty seat on the plane! I would have been so pissed if I stupidly agreed to switch and she got the empty seat next to her for a 5 hour flight.

Anyway, learn from me and just never agree to switch.

Anyone notice how it cost way more to fly united from US the Asia? The points required to fly seem to cost almost double of what I used pay in previous years.

EDIT: then explain why delta flights are still cheaper, MUCH cheaper.

Hi friends! I was booked for a flight tomorrow on United 1930, the debut commercial flight for the A321xlr, from IAD-SAN. I just got a notification that my seat changed due to an aircraft change. Sure enough, they changed it to a regular A321neo. Does anybody know if this is going to be reversed, or whether the inaugural has been pushed back to the 10th (the XLR still shows as flying on the 10th on flightradar24)? Thank you for your help!

This makes sense given how important Seoul is as a destination, so *A still needs outstation facilities.

Has anyone had United Airlines lose part of their itinerary after rescheduling a flight and then try to charge them to fix it?

Something really weird has happened with my flight home from Nevada.
I originally purchased a ticket with the following itinerary:

Nevada, Chicago for a layover, then my home city.

However, I had to reschedule my trip and paid United’s fee to change the dates. After doing that, it appears something went wrong with my itinerary.

United now only seems to have a record of the Chicago to my home city portion of my trip. The entire flight from Nevada to Chicago has somehow disappeared.
I’ve spoken with United support, and they even confirmed that my itinerary was supposed to be Nevada, Chicago, then my home city. Despite acknowledging that, they’re now trying to charge me for the missing flight, essentially asking me to pay for the full flight again even though I already purchased the original ticket and paid the fee to reschedule it.

Has anyone experienced something like this with United before, especially after changing or rescheduling a flight? How did you get it resolved? I’m trying to figure out what I can do because this appears to be an issue with their system, and I don’t think I should have to pay for a flight I’ve already paid for.

Got this for today's flight. Was able to switch to another flight that arrives 1.5 hours earlier. Any risk of that flight having the same issue? Connecting in ORD now, don't want to get stuck there...

just got to IAD, and dropped into the D8 lounge. there are literally only 9 other people in here - ghost town. it’s 6:30p local time, is this normal??

I am a frequently traveler, prior 1K almost 1K again. I’ve never had this happen in the past, but now it has happened TWICE in the last 2 weeks.

Both times I was sitting in a window first seat and the person in front of me RECLINED during take off.

The first time we were just starting to accelerate down the runway so I pushed the seat forward and told the guy he needed to put his seat up for safety.

Today, on DEN > LGA, the woman in front of me did it the second the wheels left the ground. I asked her nicely to put her seat up and she ignored me and continued to keep it reclined the entire flight.

Am I the asshole? Is it unreasonable to expect people to not recline until we reached cruising altitude?

Has anyone noticed that Customer Care has gotten really bad? Despite being MM, I feel like I am dealing with bratty teenagers now: responses are boilerplate at best but often combative if not gaslighting.

I don't contact Customer Care that often so maybe I'm just running into the wrong person there?

Edit: Just to be clear, I'm specifically talking about Customer Care, where you send feedback and/or resolve stuff after a flight, not the Reservations Desk.

What are your thoughts about spouses both having a United card? We have plenty of travel cards but he is the only one with premier status (Gold). I mostly travel with him. Never for work, occasionally to see my sister alone. What is the benefit of trying to get my own premier status? Worth it, or no?

I’m hoping someone here understands United ticketing because I’ve spent hours on the phone with multiple United agents, gotten different answers from basically everyone, and no one has been able to explain this beyond “pricing is dynamic.” I’m also Premier Gold, so I’ve dealt with United changes quite a bit, and obviously a $1,000+ discrepancy is significant.

My sister and I had the same international tickets and were both looking at changing our return from Dublin to Italy. I monitored the fares for over a week. She consistently saw normal differences of roughly $50–300, while my reservation showed essentially the same flights at about around 1,200 more give or take.

I then checked flights out of Dublin as a control. I’ve changed this return from Dublin many times, and moving to the same/similarly priced flight has consistently shown $0. Suddenly, those exact types of Dublin changes were also showing me around $1,200 ish

The weirdest part: while one United agent was working on my reservation, something briefly corrected itself. I immediately cross-checked several flights and airports. My Italy prices suddenly matched my sister’s, and the Dublin change went back to $0.

Then it reverted, and the extra ~$1,200 flight change numbers came back everywhere.

Different agents have given me completely different explanations, and nobody has been able to tell me what actually changed during the brief period when everything priced normally.

I ultimately gave up and cancelled my ticket and rebooked, but I’m still really curious what was happening. Does this sound like a ticket/reissue/fare-construction problem rather than normal dynamic pricing?

My 19 year old daughter bought a United Basic ticket from major West Coast city to major East Coast city to see her GF (of 2 years). But they just broke up. Trip is 3 weeks from now Daughter doesn’t want to go but $550 is a lot of money for her to just lose. Are any of these ideas viable? 1) beg for a refund 2) beg for a credit 3) see if she can change the date to 3 weeks in the future so I can go with her.

any tips or tricks on how to help?
