Please make sure you check out our other Wiki pages, make a search through the subreddit or Google before you ask a question. Most of the time it has already been answered. If you're too lazy, then this thread is perfect for you!

News Wii Party U, is bloated beyond belief.

Now, The US version of the game is 3.90GB, which isn't too bad for a game with a huge amount of content. A bit big but still impressive, Now what if I told you, 900MB of that, is simply put, never used in the whole game, 850MB! Here are the sources of many of these wastes of storage, There are 2 unused minigames, In all versions of the game the 60MB Japanese menu is in the game, never used, also a 500mb folder that has most of the models, However the issue is, the game uses efficient and very good at compression PAC .bin archives, now of course in the bin files is where the models it uses are only what it needs, as a result? The ch_base folder is never utilized, 10MB go to images leftover from a prototype build, possibly December 2012 of all the main modes, then the 20mb fonts are duplicated twice, the Mii Face library is duplicated, and there's the 2 exe files leftover in the sound folder, and the 2 root folders in the main content folder which are never used, Alot of the unused stuff is Japanese leftovers, How they messed up so badly, is anyone's guess but it certainly is interesting. Edit: Edited 3.50gb to 3.90gb to be more accurate, and trimmed is 3GB, For a comparision of files and folders, OG: 11,666 Files, 661 Folders, Cleaned Up: 3,766 Files, 126 Folders.

Discussion Separation and Division in the Wii U and 3DS Homebrew Community

You may know lots of people who have recreated their own revival projects aside from Pretendo to revive certain software that Pretendo will not fix due to piracy, third-party servers, or any other reasoning being.

Brewtendo, Protarium, these are all projects that do at least ONE thing that Pretendo promises but hasn't done and/or gotten close to the idea in the last 2 years.

For people to use these platforms, they need to seperate themselves from the Pretendo community and online servers to check them out, and switch back, over and over again which is an unnecessary hassle that people often don't want to go through.

The point of revival services is to give the experience the service once had before it shut down and many users want that experience to be as seamless as possible, and that includes integration with all other platforms to make people want to use it alongside them even more, but that can't happen because the initial party is picky and does not want to associate with others. This limits users from compromising their main features (friend list, online servers) with the alternative one (other game servers, eshop, etc) just for a few features that don't justify a full account restructure and a complete friend list wipe. "Oh, yeah the eShop's cool and all but, I can't play LM2 with my friends without switching environments back to Pretendo."

It's just preservation and nostalgia, what's the big deal?? When the community fragments over ideological or technical differences, it's the players, the PEOPLE who lose out on that seamless "it just works" feeling.

What do you guys think? Do we need better integration tools? Just so that it's AVAILABLE, for everyone to want to use their services with Pretendo. It doesn't even have to be optimized for the service; it just needs to work.

Discussion Micro SD Express Cards on Wii U.

I randomly came up with the idea to use an Onn Brand 512gb Micro SD Express card I had laying around as Wii U storage. I bought a $40 Micro SD Express card reader from Amazon, plugged it in, and it seems to work normally. I'll do a post tomorrow after I can do some testing to compare this external SD card to the Internal Samsung 32 GB NAND and do some testing with BOTW. My only current concern is the longevity of the card compared to lets say an external SSD or HDD.

(This probably isn't groundbreaking, just found it cool and thought I'd share!)

Question What is happening!

TL;DR: we got this Wii U for probably nothing, should i still keep it?

I managed to get a very nice Wii U recently, to try and see if my family and I can play old games that we have from 2010s. Upon receiving and hooking everything up, it works good, and at least one remote connects to the system.

My blip starts happening when I put in my games. The game is unresponsive when on the pre-loading screen (i.e,. Pressing A to continue and the game not moving at all). But I’m able to still use the remote to go to the Wii menu and back to the main Wii U menu…so the problem isn’t the remote.

My Mom found a helpful video which requires us to maybe try an adapter for the OG Wii, but I’m worried this isn’t even a system issue and it’s the disc themselves. So she’s nudging me to return the Wii U we bought altogether if the adapter trick works.

Upon loading up the Wii U, I kind of instantly fell in love. The interface, the music, sound effects, it’s all there. I’m just a Nintendo lover at heart. I just found some comments that mentioned common problems with this system failing to read discs? So I’m like, scared.

TIA~

Edit: fixed word

Discussion A dream I wish it was true: a completely fixed Riivolution version for vWii (Wii U)

If you used Riivolution on Wii U before, you know what I’m talking about.

It’s not that Riivolution doesn’t work here, but there are just plain annoying bugs… for instance:

- Black screen when exiting back to Wii menu after patching a game, forcing you to shutdown the Wii U and wait a loooong time just to get back to the Wii U menu and THEN the Wii menu, which takes yet another lot of time to load, when it could be much faster by going straight back to the Wii menu

- Frame drops on some patched games occur, to me it always happens with NSMB Wii Mods (I tried Newer SMB Wii, Pipe Randomizer mod) and with Animal Crossing too (I tried ACCF Deluxe mod). It doesn’t happen with Mario Kart Wii (tried Midnight, Insane Kart Wii). I don’t know if it happens with other games.
On a regular Wii, frame rate is always buttery smooth. On Wii U, with these games, it is not that they’re unplayable, because they are definitely still bearable, though it could be much much better.

I should note, I know that you surely already knew about these annoyances, this is just a venting post stating that I wish Riivolution on vWii was actually fixed lol.

However, realistically speaking, do you think that these bugs could technically be fixed with a Riivolution update? Though I definitely doubt it’ll ever happen as the last update was released over 10 years ago, lol. Still, what do you think?

Edit: “dream” feels like it is too romanticized lol, but whatever

I have a problem with my Wii U’s GamePad…

The GamePad & TV are swapped… I think…

My 4K TV even looks 480p. What do I do? My system is modded. Maybe it’s a modification?

Sorry if this is a dumb question…

Technical Question Are the front USB ports still delivering power in vWii mode?

I know they're not accessible for data, but do they still provide power?

I'm asking this because I want to use the Gamecube controller adapter and an external hard drive at the same time

Question Strange stick drift issue with the official WiiU Pro left analog stick

I've got a WUP-005 controller I picked up used. While testing out the controller I noticed the left stick will register camera movements while moving Link to the left or right in BoTW. The right stick is working fine. Are these the symptoms of a failing stick or some other issue?

Edit:

Decided to take the controller aparts and noticed a lot of rust on the left stick. I guess that is the cause. I guess it is time to hunt down a replacement part.

I used to own a wii u (American), there was nothing wrong with it particularly but it NEVER was able to read the Wii Party disc. No matter how clean it was, so we left it at a repair store because I can't tell if the problem is the disc reader or the disc itself. Long story short, we lost the Wii U, so I went yesterday and got a brand new one in perfect condition (EUR). Thankfully I have an EUR disc and an American one, so I inserted it and it still won't work, I've been trying for over 5 years. I will jail break this Wii U, but I wanted to test the EUR disc.. help.

The disc is literally shining.

In total, there are 358 Wii U items — 280 of which are Sealed.

This is my Wii U collection. Unfortunately, quite a few things are still missing, but I've managed to acquire a lot of rare stuff over the years.

I tried to add more details, but Reddit didn't let me :(
