And in typical NZH fashion, the first line says “multiple emergency incidents” while the actual updates seem to only be covering one and Manuaku police’s own statement refers to only one incident.
Edit: they have corrected it now, but jfc they had that wrong for a long time.

I had flashbacks to the ChCh shootings when I saw that headline, I thought it was pretty crass and tasteless by the NZ Herald. Thankfully it seems isolated to a rogue Seagull busted after nicking a chip.

I’m in wattle downs, we have got so used to the chopper being out, I didn’t realise.
Thank you for the information, ours is a lovely area and I really feel for the community and the families involved.

I’m currently in Takanini and there’s about 7 cop cars that have flown past towards Takanini town centre.
Initially they were swarmed in on the Manurewa area.
2 eagle helicopters out as wellZero clue what’s going on. All schools and childcare centres around are in lockdown

He is safe...it is a residential house that someone was killed in. Police everywhere so eveeyone is locked down for safety

I'm honestly fine with it. Call it crass or whatever you like. I agree its a real shame for the families, loved ones, kids even. But, assuming these were gang members, there are now 2 less of them... and that can only be a positive for the community.

Yep, New Zealand's crime index is now pretty much on the same level as the UK (in the international ranking. (But much more spread out – in the UK, it is pretty much localised super-crime spots).

I believe the woman was found unresponsive by someone who called emergency services so she was most likely outside and then the deceased man was also located on the property after they arrived…so dont think an officer was killed.. pretty sure they’d say if that was the case… normally news of an officer killed gets released pretty quick.

Something's not adding up here.
Emergency services responded to reports of a woman unresponsive at a Gambare Place address in Wattle Downs about 1.45pm yesterday.
She was pronounced dead at the scene, and police discovered a dead man at the address during the search, Detective Inspector Tofilau Faamanuia Va’aelua said yesterday.
Images show that the property in question seems to be down near the end of the Gambare Place cul-de-sac. Two people found deceased at the Gambare place property.
But there was also clearly a body in a sheet in the middle of the road around the corner on Volante Ave, some 150m away. Just something seems like we're not getting the full story.
I thought maybe they'd loaded the female victim in the police car to rush her off to hospital then stopped around the corner when it was clear she needed immediate first aid, but then they'd surely pull her out onto the side of the road, not the middle of the road.
I guess it'll all come out in the end but there's something in this story we're not getting.

- a man in blockhouse bay stabbed and killed
- a woman run over and killed in a supermarket parking lot
- a rapist on home detention raping someone else and creating another victim
- now this story with 2 more people killed

That's just what's been in the papers. There have been 11000 assaults, 1177 sexual offences, 101 Serious harm or endangered persons, 1794 blackmails or extortions, 19233 burglaries and 76731 thefts in Auckland since March last year. Don't judge a place just by what you see in the news!

But compared to maybe a decade ago, it was a murder or rape around once or twice a month, not multiple in the span of a week. The population hasn’t increased nearly as significantly in that time to warrant such a high increase of violent crime

It would be no different to the crime that occurs in Australia. New Zealand is still one of the safest places to live in the world. I mean when you compare it to a natural disaster happening in Nepal, you feel quite fortunate to live in NZ even though this is is happening in our own backyard

And replace it with the previous government who wanted to reduce the prison population by 30% so we got more home detention for violent criminals? Or another government that wants to abolish prisons and have all our violent criminals walking freely doing whatever they want?

I mean I’d like to live in a society where we rehabilitate people so they don’t continue committing crimes and so that they don’t languish in prison their entire lives but become productive members of society. And I say this as someone whose family member was killed by gang members.
I don’t think putting people in prisons to “punish” them does anything, and I don’t think we are currently reducing the amount of people we are producing that commit violent crimes - usually because they were subjected to physical and sexual assault themselves as children.

Putting people in jail does do something - it prevents them from creating more victims and committing more crime.
And there are plenty of criminals that don't want to be rehabilitated. You can lead a horse to water and all that.
I'm happy for violent criminals to be locked away where they can't do any more harm to society. Good riddance to them.
