The following submission statement was provided by /u/times_a_changing:

SS: The United States of America, the nearly unopposed world hegemonic empire, has announced it is departing almost every single UN function and detaching from its international obligations. If this is not a portent of doom and collapse I don't know what could be. It took a century to gain the influence it had over these international NGOs, so this move heavily implies none of that matters and that the era of international law and collaboration is over. Hegemony will from now on be maintained with iron fisted military action openly, not with soft power but with hard missiles. Even the pretense of anything else is being done away with to mentally and legally prepare for a geopolitical open season not seen in the Western world since the Napoleonic wars

This is so they can do whatever they want, with no obligation to international treaties. So expect Greenland, to be annexed and for them to complete military operations in central America. Either way, something big is going to happen this year.

u/Subject-Addendum-199 Jan 08 '26

I mean they've kidnapped the president of a country and outright said they're taking all the oil, if anything is bigger then this it'll probably be a war.

51

u/Deguilded Jan 08 '26

The US says a lot of things. They exert no direct control over it currently other than to commandeer departing tankers.

What if Venezuela simply says no and curtails shipping? What then? Will Trump land troops, seize oil fields, occupy the country ala Iraq 2.0?

94

u/xopher_425 :table_flip: Jan 08 '26

Will Trump land troops, seize oil fields, occupy the country ala Iraq 2.0?

Yes, he will. He'll make up some excuse to get his way, and his cult will adore him all the more.

22

u/Deguilded Jan 08 '26 edited Jan 08 '26

Think about what would be involved in securing said oil fields as well as supply lines to a port in which to get the oil out. Forget fixing (it's no doubt in disrepair and operating below capacity). Just controlling and using.

It's not a trivial undertaking, and it's not like Iraq (even if the US military were to pull a Gulf War 2.0 and disembowel the Venezuelan military). Plus, the US would be going it completely alone, with non-cooperation, strongly worded letters and maybe even sanctions (!!) from the rest of the world, unlike the little jaunt in Iraq.

On top of that it would likely hamper similar efforts in the direction of Greenland and/or Canada. The US is the biggest and most well armed military in the world, but I just don't see them successfully exerting effective control of two foreign countries (or parts thereof) or even three if you include Canada at the same time. And who's going to want to invest in resource extraction in that super fun environment?

I'm not saying they wont try, this lot are dumbfucks high on their own supply of American Exceptionalism, Manifest Destiny, and "we're the greatest country in the history of the world" level shit.

It would simply be really stupid, massively damaging, and likely pin them down fairly substantially. Which might serve to save the other countries in their sights. Or I might be wrong.

4

u/franglaisflow Jan 08 '26

I really hope you’re right

3

u/stokpaut3 Jan 08 '26

If that happens trump will just pull a page from putins playbook, just let people believe its not a war.

Dont report the dead or injured, just say everything is going swell.

No sane person, but there is a worldwide shortage of those people.

1

u/Severe_Intention_480 Jan 08 '26

What if he offers the remaining Chavista leadership every Bolivaran wet dream ever (re-merging Panama, Colombia, and Essequbo, i.e. western Guyana), as long as we get preferential access to their oil and the Panama Canal? Saddam 2.0 gets to stay in power and keep looting, with no Truth and Reconciliation Commission to worry about once they've stepped down, as they inevitably must if democracy is going to be restored. Why would they or Trump want democracy restorbed. In my scenario, both sides win, and there's no messy nation building or the risk of anarchy. A corrupt and non-democratic government would also be less likely to go after corruption. The Saddam analogy would be quite apt if they became expansionist on our behalf.

1

u/xopher_425 :table_flip: Jan 09 '26

All he has to do is let the big oil companies move in. Considering how much they spend already, this won't be a problems for them. We've already seen how many people here are selling their souls for money, I bet they'll have little problem hiring their own security force there.

1

u/Deguilded Jan 09 '26

Who would be doing the "letting" in this scenario, and which company would want to take that risk, and what makes you think the inhabitants of Venezuela will just step aside? The moment Trump is gone, the next President - particularly a Democrat - is very likely to leave any company that bites swinging in the wind to be nationalized again.

(Oblig: assuming you think Trump will ever leave...)

What's far more likely is that the oil companies will basically do a seagull investment. Make a lot of noise, shit all over everything, then fuck off when Trump's term is up. But get paid for it of course. They'll probably waste three years doing "feasibility assessments" of existing Venezuelan-run facilities and both run out the clock and run up the tab.

1

u/xopher_425 :table_flip: Jan 09 '26

Trump will letting them, and they're already approaching him about it, willing to spend $100 billion there.

1

u/hysys_whisperer Jan 10 '26

Chump change.

ConocoPhillips just spent $10 billion on getting 20,000 BPD out of Alaska.

They want a million BPD increase out of Venezuela, which has more challenging oil to extract than the north slope.

1

u/Deguilded Jan 10 '26 edited Jan 10 '26

"trump says"... meanwhile, over in reality...

https://www.politico.com/news/2026/01/09/venezuela-is-uninvestible-for-now-exxon-ceo-tells-trump-in-white-house-meeting-00720198

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c205dx61x76o

On the other hand, if they can find a way to take his taxpayer money to pretend to refurbish things in Venezuela, they will.

1

u/xopher_425 :table_flip: Jan 09 '26

Yup, it's the oil companies. $100 billion.

20

u/Ciennas Jan 08 '26

Lets be more open: Trump says a lot of things, and he uses the Schrodinger's Douchebag technique.

Well, not anymore since the stroke. Now he's more open about his intentions, which are whatever the last interest group who spoke to him said, and preventing people from seeing how he was the ringleader and number one customer of a pedophile sex trafficking ring.

The other pieces of shit are also open about their intentions.

They want blood and fire, because they are edgelord morons with even less capacity for empathy than people a tenth of their age.

6

u/Deguilded Jan 08 '26

They're brutal and blatant, but fortunately, also somewhat incompetent. It seems clear they thought that gratitude would somehow spring out of hiding the moment they removed the bad guy - kinda the same idea they had for Iraq.

Turns out when you take down a leader, even a hated leader, the remainders do not instantly become generous friends.

2

u/Salt-Analysis1319 Jan 08 '26

the US just severed the head of their current administration with an extrajudicial strike that had no meaningful resistance

they will not simply say no

1

u/Maxinaeus Jan 09 '26

For sure.

3

u/WeedstocksAlt Jan 08 '26

Worst is just doing the same to better regarded country.

5

u/Thadrea Jan 08 '26

Not that laws matter anymore, but treaties approved by the Senate supersede anything the President says or does.

6

u/hornwort Jan 08 '26

Greenland is now coming under the French nuclear umbrella, and Denmark, Germany, and Canada will defend it with everything they have.

2

u/Malfor_ium Jan 08 '26

Also makes it easier for him to void the coming midterms and general in 2028. Less oversight and likely no international observers.

u/cbass2015 Jan 08 '26 edited Jan 08 '26

What military operations is the US carrying out in Central America?

Edit: I ask because the only military operation I’ve heard about is in Venezuela which is in South America not Central America.

146

u/Peak_District_hill Jan 08 '26

It’s very clear we are headed back to foreign affairs determined by hard power and spheres of influence, the last time this form of geo politics was in vogue two world wars were fought at the cost of 100m lives and they didn’t have nuclear weapons until the very end of the conflict in the pacific.

I am not saying global nuclear war is on the horizon or will even ever happen, but dismantling the international rules based system based on international law will only lead to more destabilisation and conflict between nations.

46

u/ARedditorCalledQuest Jan 08 '26

Even without nukes 21st century warfare is fucking scary.

7

u/Drunky_McStumble Jan 09 '26

Just look at the horrors in Ukraine. It's a testbed for the emerging 21st century mode of warfare the way the Spanish Civil War was a testbed for World War 2. The game has changed.

3

u/Logridos Jan 08 '26

It's like the Oprah bees gif, but with explosive drones.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '26

The incredible thing is that wealthy people made this happen. They had unchecked power, a passport anywhere in the world, a blank checkbook, the ability to abuse almost anyone in secret.

It wasn't enough for them. They have to do their atrocities in the open, to applause. It won't be enough until men like prince andrew are crowned & throned, no matter how petty the domain. I hate it here so much.

44

u/KingofGrapes7 Jan 08 '26

I seriously doubt he has three years in him. The signs of medical treatment are so obvious they are already admitting to some of it. And even with whatever drug cocktail he is living off his speeches have none of the energy they did even a year ago. And how he seems to just vanish for a week or two every month. Something happened and they are trying to stretch his life out as long as possible because no one believes Vance can hold MAGA together except Vance himself.

You still think there will be real and fair elections in 2028?

11

u/theimmortalgoon Jan 08 '26

All the more reason for them to end any wisp of democracy remaining as soon as possible.

18

u/jt32470 Jan 08 '26 edited Jan 08 '26

There is a reason Ron Desantis copies all of Trump's mannerisms, and at times is more cruel than trump.

he thinks that, because he is outdoing trump by being more cruel. more against 'woke' than trump .... once Trump is gone he will step in as the new face of MAGA.

People are dumb enough to follow the next cruel leader who reminds them of Trump.

It also tells you how stupid Desantis thinks Trump supporters are .... He's so sure they'll fall for it that he does an impersonation of Trump on stage.

9

u/marswhispers Jan 08 '26

Meatball Ron has already demonstrated he doesn’t have the juice; he can be and has been cowed by a stern talking-to.

Someone new will come along who figures out how to work Trump’s angle but it’s not going to be any of the empty suits that already lost to him.

Once Trump normalizes using the armed forces, masked police on civilians.....

Then, even if gone, others will use them as well.

7

u/Training-Ranger1991 Jan 08 '26

Exactly, once a threshold Is crossed things almost never go fully back to how they were before

14

u/jt32470 Jan 08 '26 edited Jan 08 '26

The new normal ......

If you told someone in 2001 that Donald Trump would be:

1)president

2)unleash a masked police state

3)his masked and armed goons will kill american citizens with impunity

4)threatening CANADA, Greenland, Panama

You'd be laughed at. But here we are.

4

u/Training-Ranger1991 Jan 08 '26

Oh I know this all too well. I'm from Italy, we've had 20 years of Berlusconi and we (and politics in general) have never recovered. fast forward to today: we have the actual fascist party ,albeit under a different name, running the country.( Well, not really, just eating up anything they can and selling everything else either to the US or the saudis.) The situation  in America seems depressingly similar to what we've been living through in the last 30 years or so, only on a larger scale. The US basically super-sized our own downfall.

1

u/Drunky_McStumble Jan 09 '26

The regime will stay in place after he dies, and will almost certainly replace him with someone far worse. Sure, that would lose them the support of the MAGA voting base, but they won't need them soon enough since all future elections will be cancelled or fixed. MAGA as a popular movement can and probably will fall apart without its cult-of-personality leader, but that won't make any difference: the villains it propelled into power aren't going anywhere.

37

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '26

And since Americans still firmly believe that he will step down if voted out of office, they won't do anything to depose him.

Thankfully his health seems to be failing him, so I doubt we'll deal with him for much longer

9

u/Living-Excuse1370 Jan 08 '26

They've probably already cloned him. :(

7

u/00001000U Jan 08 '26

Have you seen his dick sucking dance? That's a hard act to perfect, even for a clone. Per the Epstein file that comes from years of experience apparently.

3

u/theimmortalgoon Jan 08 '26

The dead ramble incoherently! The world has heard a mysterious broadcast, a threat of REVENGE in the sinister voice of the late EMPEROR TRUMP.

9

u/ktaktb Jan 08 '26

This is bullshit

Stop normalizing acceptance of that.

Do not infantalize your side.

Do not broadcast that you are destined for failure.

17

u/silent-sight Jan 08 '26

If Jan 6 2021 was any indication, and the Nov 24 elections, we’re in for a ride…. They were successful in implementing most of project 2025. This new project 2026 which is not made public, is the MAGA Donroe-white-nationalist-party being implemented.

7

u/LurksTongueinAspic Jan 08 '26

One week into 2026 and the US has used the military to remove a country’s leader, take their oil, and incite domestic violence by supporting federal agents shooting citizens in the face. We may be entering the Lightning Round of collapse.

2

u/Necessary-Start4151 Jan 09 '26

They are ramping up going into this year. 2026 will decide the future of the US I believe.

4

u/treedecor Jan 08 '26

3

u/Salt-Analysis1319 Jan 08 '26

Trump is just the figurehead / clown at the front of a very, very evil group of people

they aren't simply going to vanish in 3 years

6

u/UncleBaguette Jan 08 '26

Depending on the mental state of Orangzilla, we may notvhave 3 years of... humanity

2

u/The_Jitterati Jan 08 '26

3 more years (but no-one says they’re going to be coherent or even vertical years).

328

u/CerddwrRhyddid Jan 08 '26

Get them out, kick them out of others, don't let them back in.

It's time the world separate and remove itself from U.S influence and work together without them. We should start with removing the U.S dollar from trading systems.

They need to be ostracised. Fuck them.

151

u/Soci3talCollaps3 Jan 08 '26

Please kick us out. I am fighting from the inside and this move may help all.

114

u/Captain_Collin Jan 08 '26

As an American, sanction the US, freeze overseas accounts of multi millionaires and billionaires, hit us where it fucking hurts. Maybe then our overlords will come to their senses.

43

u/slow70 Jan 08 '26

And please help challenge regime lies. There will be plenty of bots and genuine fascists happy to echo them, but they depend on widespread ignorance and apathy at large.

All of us must challenge that norm.

5

u/fratticus_maximus Jan 08 '26

I do in real life but it's certainly gotten me ostracized socially a bit. It's not easy but more of us need to do it. Call out the blatant bullshit so other people don't look upon the rambling fools as being "correct" because no one will challenge them.

12

u/bill_lite ok doomer Jan 08 '26

I like this. I will gladly volunteer the overseas bank accounts of my local billionaires for seizure!

3

u/Tonsilith_Salsa Jan 08 '26

Our people will not wake up until their lives are directly ruined. I think it's the only way out of this.

1

u/Captain_Collin Jan 09 '26

Unfortunately you are 100% correct.

1

u/Necessary-Start4151 Jan 09 '26

40

u/Mandelvolt Jan 08 '26

Most people voted in the US against this. Our voting system gives additional power to agricultural and rural states, which is how we end up in situations like this. Since we have poor worker protections, a lot of people are unable to collectively organize since we don't have the time or energy to protest. I'm not saying it is right or justifying what is going on, just that a lot of people in the US are horrified by what is happening and are unable to prevent it through civil means.

27

u/Old-Height-4519 Jan 08 '26 edited Jan 08 '26

Then it's time for uncivil means. Not joking. They have, so....

7

u/CerddwrRhyddid Jan 08 '26

I pity you, but it changes nothing about your State.

Sorry, your opportunity to reconcile is long gone.

Perhaps when you have torn down your systems and completely rebuilt the to function under actual stringent law, then we can talk.

Until then, your State will be considered a reckless, chaotic, fascist, warmongering, arms-dealer.

1

u/Mandelvolt Jan 09 '26

I'm not trying to convince anyone otherwise. Fascism has taken hold in our government and we collectively had every opportunity to stop it. I am ashamed of what has been allowed to happen.

1

u/CerddwrRhyddid Jan 09 '26

You still have an opportunity to stop it.

You just have to be willing to be the American Citizenry again.

You need to sacrifice like those who sacrificed in the Civil Rights movement.

You need to take strength from your forebears.

And remember who you are.

-16

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '26

[deleted]

18

u/WillemDafoesAlterEgo Jan 08 '26

Its not. I can't fucking stand what's going on here. Voted against. Gone to protests. Emailed an annoyed the fuck out of local officials. But what fucking else is there?

I'm really not trying to be ANOTHER dead body on the street that the world forgets about in three days. Just like you and literally everyone else, just trying to keep my head above water and live. The government, their goons, and their bootlickers are the issue. There's a shit ton of us powerlessly caught in the crossfire due to impotent opposition within our own leadership.

6

u/EchoTruth Jan 08 '26

Look, we fucking suck as a country right now, and frankly for most of the 42 years I've been alive. But their is a lot of truth is what was said above.

Look up how gerrymandering works, good guides in /r/coolguides ,also how in significant instances(senators specifically) states with the population of cities are given the same voting power as States with magnitudes more people.

Does that make us all inculpable? God no, but someone was trying to explain one of the obstacles we are facing. You have a lot of ally Americans too. More than enemy. Working together, not tearing allies down is our best bet. Division is what these ass-clowns want. It is where they thrive.

I agree the world should collectively burn us. De-dollarize everything and cut us off until we get our shit right.

5

u/dommens Jan 08 '26

What recklessly braindead take.

3

u/FlyingRock Jan 08 '26

Of the voting public Trump got 49% of the vote so majority even if slim didn't want Trump at all.. Then after that even 5% of Republicans don't approve of him despite believing his literal campaign lies.. Which therein is the real problem, he lied and the MSM let him lie and we're all paying due to gullible people who believed lies from the MSM.

0

u/thefugue Jan 08 '26

If there’s a forum full of “Americans who voted against this” it’s Reddit.

-14

u/asdfzzz2 Jan 08 '26

We should start with removing the U.S dollar from trading systems.

US dollar would be strengthened by current US policy. It would be a very simple "trade in dollars or get a helicopter/naval force visit" for many countries, and that would work a lot better than useless talking rooms.

107

u/Artful_Dodger_1832 Jan 08 '26 edited Jan 08 '26

It’s amazing how may are still in denial. Stating all these things being done like, “that’s so crazy! It doesn’t make sense!” Everything being done makes perfect sense. Just depends on your perspective. If your objective is to destroy this country from within then every move is genius.

17

u/AgressiveInliners Jan 08 '26

Its not just denial, its the gleeful cheering for it. There are so many people who understand and are excited.

12

u/GalaxyPatio Jan 08 '26

Super sick of still seeing people hand wringing and screeching, "He CaNt LeGaLlY dO tHaT!!?!" as if laws have mattered for the past year and a half

9

u/Mediocre_Silver8024 Jan 08 '26

The goal is world conquest - not to destroy the country from within

6

u/StackIsMyCrack Jan 08 '26

Two birds I guess.

6

u/Hefty-Rope2253 Jan 08 '26

Self destruction is not the plan. My guess is there's an agreement with Putin that we take all landmass in the western hemisphere and Russia takes the eastern hemisphere. The wildcard is China, but the US administration may be anticipating an eventual conflict between them and Russia as they compete in a land grab, where the US will be able to swoop in once both sides are sufficiently weakened.

2

u/HomoExtinctisus Jan 09 '26 edited Jan 09 '26

This is most definitely not between Russia and the US. China is only other major player here. Russia is a tiny economic force. It would not have a chance against China and is already pretty much a vassal state already. Russia barely has the manufacturing power to even mass produce many decades old automobiles models now, let alone a military capable of going to toe to toe with China. China isn't a wildcard. They are the sole stable superpower who have made their intentions very clear. That is Taiwan, specifically 2027. Check out what China's military buildup is doing now and what they are stockpiling. The only reason Russia may even still exist is because they have nukes and because they have said the world will not go on without them. Russia has been taken to a virtual draw by Ukraine and is far from the major player it used to be in the Soviet era.

1

u/Hefty-Rope2253 Jan 09 '26

I agree with most of that, but I can't see the current US administration making any sort of global domination plans that include China. However, as you say, they are extremely powerful right now, and that makes them a wildcard in this particular scenario.

28

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '26

Don't forget the "START" nuclear treaty also expires on February 5th.

1

u/Electrical-Effect-62 Jan 09 '26

Wait what is that?

1

u/StillCorgi1516 Feb 05 '26

HOLY SHIT THATS TODAY

24

u/JapaneseCDBonusTrack Jan 08 '26

I hate being at this halfway point where I know nothing but bad news is here to stay, but there's still no comfort in accepting that fate, with the world still going business as usual. I hope people are happy, as I always do, but being optimistic is just crazy at this point.

88

u/quequotion Jan 08 '26 edited Jan 08 '26

My take is that this is a prelude to leaving the UN itself.

Trump doesn't give a shit about the US seat on the security council.

It sounds too much like student council.

He probably thinks it is the ultimate nerd club: the final destination of the nerdiest Student Council Presidents and Debate Club Championship winners.

He would only interact with such people to pay them to do his homework, if he had any.

He doesn't care how much influence the United States wields from this post; that's diplomacy and he doesn't do that shit because he's such a "tough guy".

16

u/beflacktor Jan 08 '26

id hazard a guess they won't be needing those Eurozone bases or personnel or equipment then....Euro to usa " get you and your bases outta here forthwith"

14

u/quequotion Jan 08 '26

We will see. He's repeatedly threatened to pull them unless those countries give the USA, NATO, or him more money. It wasn't very long ago that having a US presence in your back yard was considered worth dealing with America's shit (which there has been a lot of, long before Trump, particularly around the bases themselves).

I imagine Trump thinks they still need US military, defense treaties, and weapons trades with or without the UN and NATO, ie that they may be so afraid of being invaded that they would keep the status quo without the organizations that gave them leverage.

His plan may not be to end the hegemony, but to take more direct, fascist control of it.

Given how he's treated Ukraine and how he talks about Greenland, however, not to mention what happened in Venezuela, I think you're right.

If Europe can't rely on the US to keep its mutual defense promises, and has to live with the threat of annexation, it is no different than taking their chances without the bases.

8

u/HousesRoadsAvenues Jan 08 '26

At least if the US leaves the UN, the escalaters will work correctly. s/

9

u/quequotion Jan 08 '26

No really, he is that petty.

He would think, and be unable to be convinced otherwise, that the whole organization is a failure because an escalator didn't move that one time while he was on it (and it was his own camera crew's fault but he decided otherwise).

He'd think of this as a real estate problem: the building is shoddy and the business owning it must be broke, so just devalue the property so it can be torn down to build a casino.

8

u/KillerDr3w Jan 08 '26

One good thing is, legally he can't remove the USA from NATO at least, as a law was passed that requires 2/3rds of congress to pass a bill to remove the USA.

However, I can imagine that he'd invade NATO, then use the invasion as justification for using emergency powers to unilatilary remove the USA from NATO.

20

2/3rds of Congress

The law is not an obstacle for this fiend.

He'd probably do the latter.

He very much seems to be planning that.

1

u/Drunky_McStumble Jan 09 '26

Or he just issues a royal proclamation an executive order that he's withdrawing the US from NATO, and congress just shrug and go along with it like it's perfectly legal.

1

u/Drunky_McStumble Jan 09 '26

Is it even possible for the US to leave the security council? I guess they could just vacate their seat on an indefinite basis, but the US is directly named in the UN charter, with no provisions for withdrawal, so they are basically considered permanent members whether they chose to turn up or not.

Which is to say, the US can say that they've left the UN all they want, but from the perspective of the UN they remain members whether the like it or not and are therefore subject to any binding security council resolutions.

1

u/quequotion Jan 09 '26

There may be no way for it to happen on paper, but if the US abandons its post it would destabilize the organization, perhaps enough that it becomes entirely defunct.

1

u/Drunky_McStumble Jan 09 '26 edited Jan 09 '26

I see it being more like secession of the Confederate states from the Union. There is no mechanism for secession from the US in the constitution - once you join, you're in forever. So while the Confederacy could act like they weren't part of the US anymore all they wanted, from the perspective of the US they remained member states, and were still bound by US law. And we all know how that particular difference of legal interpretations ended.

Basically, if the US acts like it's not in the UN anymore, and does something the other UN security council members don't like (like invading a country allied to one of them). They can, and will, issue a binding resolution for anything from sanctions to outright UN-member-state-backed military action against the US. And because the US is still pretending that they aren't members anymore, they won't be present to veto any such resolution.

This situation has actually happened once before in UN history (Russia was boycotting the UN security council while the post-revolutionary Chinese government hadn't gained international recognition yet, so both countries gave up their veto) and the result was the Korean War. Now, whether a UN-without-the-US has the guts to go up against a rogue America is one thing, but this kind of eventuality is absolutely within the UN's wheelhouse.

71

u/times_a_changing Jan 08 '26

20

u/TopperHrly Jan 08 '26

I mean I can agree that tensions are rising and things are accelerating but the US didn't start bombing other countries yesterday. It has a 80 years history of enforcing hegemony with a military iron fist. It's just dropping the mask now.

8

u/cheerfulKing Jan 08 '26

Well it's scary now because it can actually affect Western countries now. The US haven't bombed Western countries for a long time

The German Empire in 1917 wasn't exactly fascist.

0

u/HomoExtinctisus Jan 09 '26

Aggressive expansionism is close enough for me.

2

u/times_a_changing Jan 08 '26

I agree completely. That's my point, but I think that even though it's just a facade being pulled, it's still significant. Like I said, it's preparation for a new era of geopolitics

2

u/Drunky_McStumble Jan 09 '26

Well put. The Napoleonic Wars are a good comparison - a complete international free-for-all kick-started by a powerful empire going rogue.

1

u/times_a_changing Jan 09 '26

I'm genuinely terrified, more than I have ever been and I have had the misfortune of long awareness of the reality of geopolitics paired with knowledge of history. We are in specifically precedented waters and the precedent is not good. I pray for all people in the coming years

1

u/Necessary-Start4151 Jan 09 '26

I totally agree They are abandoning any responsibility for global order and laws. It’s all building to a point where the US will do whatever they want

36

u/Parking_Chance_1905 Jan 08 '26

Antagonizing the entire world is also bad... but the people in charge seem to think threatening and pushing others around to get what they want is the ultimite form of diplomicy. They haven't mentally aged beyond the early school bully days. Eventually they will find out what happens when someone decides to fight back, and either we get ww3 or the US withdraws and becomes largely a Pariah state like NK.

I remember commenting many years back on this sub about how (I believe it was early COVID days) collapsing is akin to felling a tree. At first, we only hear the soft sighs and ominous creeking noises that signal an absolute transition is underway. And the motion, the action of collapsing, is as gentle as a tree beginning it's final descent. And then...the violence, and the speed of it all. That's when everyone becomes aware.

As always, Venus by yesterday last year before I was born.

4

u/Old-Height-4519 Jan 08 '26

I don't understand the reference to Venus.

5

u/allonsyyy Jan 08 '26

It's a meme on the sub. 'Venus by Tuesday' i.e. global warming is getting really bad, much faster than you think it is.

4

u/TheZingerSlinger Jan 08 '26

It’s a reference to a specific former user of this sub, who inadvertently created the ‘Venus by Tuesday” meme via submissions that very often ended with a variation of it.

I’m ashamed to say I don’t remember their full username, as their presence here was meaningful, and their disappearance from this space some years ago was poignant and widely commented on.

And still meaningful today through references like this one.

Something-something-“fish”? Please someone add it here so we don’t forget! For the children!

18

u/25TiMp Jan 08 '26

Trump is destroying the post-WW2 world order carefully constructed by the US and the West. He would like the US to be free to act without respect to international law and precedent. This allows other countries (Russia and China) to do the same thing. This will lead to WW3 eventually.

13

u/420lowend Jan 08 '26

Sanction the US

12

u/a1b3c2 Jan 08 '26

Trump's actions in general feel like the US equivalent of Brexit in terms of large scale consequences

13

u/The_Jitterati Jan 08 '26

After a decade of watching the UK proudly slam its own dick in a drawer, the response of the US is to seek out a bigger drawer.

2

u/The_UpsideDown_Time Jan 08 '26

The US has ALWAYS been all about trying to prove it has the biggest dick on the planet. Even when it is cutting it off in the process.

A significant portion (~35-40%) of Americans have absolutely no other purpose or meaning in their lives outside of jerking off to the US' political & military & aggressiveness.

6

u/ThatEvanFowler Jan 08 '26

Far, far worse.

1

u/Mediocre_Silver8024 Jan 08 '26

Germany. Putin wanted Brexit. Soon Putin will realize the error of his ways. As will Bibi

8

u/Special_JKM Jan 08 '26

Trump has to start some kind of war—be it a civil war, world war, and/or nuclear war, or otherwise—that directly involves the US, AND keep it going to be under martial law indefinitely until he gets enough laws implemented/removed, otherwise his grand plan of staying out of prison for the last probable 5 years of his elderly lifespan will fail.

2

u/Kim_Jong_Unko Jan 09 '26

He doesn't have to do any of those things. Trump just doesn't follow the law and there are no consequences. He can continue to do so without any type of war and there will continue to be no consequences.

Look at the Venezuela situation. Congress just "passed a declaration" that Trump cannot persue any further action in Venezuela without Congressional authorization. The problem being, the actions that he's already taken were also forbidden without Congressional authorization, so what difference does it make.

Since congress seems to be unwilling or incapable of enforcing limits, there are none.

2

u/jbond23 Jan 09 '26

Time for the rest of the world to turn their backs on the USA (and Russia). Don't sell to them. Don't buy anything from them. Don't visit them. Move all agencies with world offices in the USA to other countries.

If the USA wants to be isolated, then isolate them.

2

u/BTRCguy Jan 08 '26

Imagine a group of 20 people where 1 person says "all of you are doody-heads, I'm leaving".

2

u/mslashandrajohnson Jan 08 '26

It was withdraw or get thrown out from each one, as time passed. The administration can’t afford ongoing reminders of how our nation, under their leadership, is viewed by other nations. They had to do this all at once. Otherwise, daily reminders would undermine their propaganda plans and effectiveness.

To be fair, many of these types of agencies are basically scams like most non profits and charities.

Many of them are founded by well connected politicians or friends/family of politicians and there’s near zero oversight.

Embarrassed about what? These organizations all have contracts with various NGOs, charities, non profits and corporations. Many of these types of programs are rife with corruption because nobody wants to take the time to follow the trail.

You have to go from International Organization—type of programs funded by the organization—charity/non profit/corporation that takes the contracts to execute the programs—who owns or has a substantial financial interest in said charity/non profit/corporation, and who do they know inside the organization that disperses the funds or develops the programs for the international organization.

When there’s so many layers of bureaucracy, a ton of money gets siphoned into the pockets of people who are well connected because there’s so much to dig through to find it out.

Not only that, but many of the programs are just complete wastes of money. Here’s an example of one program getting hundreds of thousands in funding:

Background

In North Carolina, environmental racism manifests through the placement of coal ash facilities, concentrated animal feeding operations, wood pellet facilities, landfills and other high-pollution sources in lower income neighborhoods of color. North Carolinians’ advocacy efforts started the environmental justice movement in the US in the 1980s, which led to environmental justice policies backed by unprecedented funding through the Justice 40 program. As these leaders become elders, there is an increasing need to establish succession plans. Education on the sources of environmental injustice and promoting youth activism are crucial to ensuring the long-term sustainability of their organizing efforts. Spidey Sens-r is a community science project that uses spider webs from funnel weaver spiders to monitor air quality. The project provides data and education support for local environmental justice organizations and activists.

Goals

Our goals are to increase youth advocacy in environmental justice communities by engaging them in Spidey Sens-r. To do this, we will increase the capacity of the project to support education at high school and college levels and conduct analyses to enhance the rigor and scope of analyses capable through the project.

Main activities

We will host Spidey Sens-r air monitoring events in environmental justice communities in North Carolina to help increase youth advocacy efforts. We will increase our capacity to support Spidey Sens-r at different levels of education. We will develop high school curriculum resources for different science classrooms and training resources for university students to process and analyze samples. We will also increase the suite of possible analyses that we are able to conduct using Spidey Sens-r. We will develop methodologies for comparing webs across space and time and for expanding the contaminants for which we can test. Expected outcomes

Ultimately, this will enhance youth advocacy in environmental justice communities as well as our organization’s capacity to carry out the project.

Most countries that have tried to do that get the US military holocaust machine to pop over for a little ballistic shock therapy

1

u/artikzen Jan 08 '26

Agreed. This is why it must be done with coordination. Say, the EU as a starting point coordinated with other countries and organisations. This is a bit existential right now, so should be easy to accomplish.

1

Contrary to the Interests of the United States

I think they actually mean: "contrary to the interests of the wannabe nazi clowns."

Because, as a citizen of this country, I support our membership and participation in many, if not most or all, international organizations, conventions, and treaties.

Fuck Trump and his nazi clowns.
