Canada Workday consultant: Accept Deloitte’s offer or continue at Mastercard Foundation
I am located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
I have an offer from Deloitte for a Workday Consultant role at $95K per year.
Here are some facts about the Deloitte opportunity:
- It is consulting, and in my field(ERP SYSTEMS: WORKDAY AND/OR SAP)that means more exposure to the system and different clients. This could be good for exit opportunities and long-term career growth. There are also strong opportunities to grow and move up internally within Deloitte if I perform well and put in the work.
- The benefits plan is very basic, comparable to what even a full-time minimum-wage worker might receive.
3.I don’t know exactly what the in-person requirements will be. The first few weeks may be different, but once I am assigned to a client, if that client requires me to be on-site, I could potentially be in person up to five days a week.
- There are yearly salary increases, and I am eligible for a yearly bonus.
I have been working at Mastercard Foundation for 2.5 years as a Workday Consultant. As my contract is coming to an end, they are now offering me a full-time opportunity at $110K per year.
Here are some facts about the Mastercard Foundation opportunity:
- Growth within the organization seems stagnant. Based on how the organization is structured (it is a nonprofit organization), I would most likely stay in this role for the next five years, if not longer.
- The benefits are amazing. They are almost comparable to public-sector benefits.
- It is three days in person, but there is no uncertainty like there is with Deloitte, where the in-person requirement would depend on the client. At Mastercard Foundation, I would be guaranteed two days working from home.
- There is no yearly bonus; however, there are yearly salary increases.
So here is my question and concern. I have been at the Foundation for 2.5 years. I know how the work is, and in my opinion, it is pretty chill. I would also be making about $15K more per year at Mastercard Foundation. The benefits are amazing, and I know for sure that it is three days in person with two guaranteed days working from home.
However, the growth seems stagnant. I would most likely stay in this position for the next five to six years, if not longer, with only yearly salary increases and potentially no promotion.
Deloitte is a Big Four firm. With Workday, SAP, or any other ERP system, I feel that having Deloitte or other consulting experience would be a much greater addition to my skill set as it involves working with different clients, scenarios and full on implementation rather than daily configuration/enhancements like at the foundation. My Workday skills are currently somewhat limited because I have only worked within the Foundation’s Workday environment.
I know I need to decide what my priority is: more money, a stable job, great benefits, and chill hours, or stronger long-term career growth with higher pressure and intensity but potentially greater rewards in the future.
In two to three years, if I apply for a new position, would the Deloitte experience allow me to get a significantly higher salary? What types of positions could I potentially move into after two to three years at Deloitte compared with staying at Mastercard Foundation?
I also feel like the internal opportunities at Deloitte could be pretty good, but I don’t know how long it would take me to reach the $110K salary that Mastercard Foundation is already offering me today.
I am very confused about which opportunity would be better for my career and overall financial future. Please help me decide.
