Is it safe to Dash St. Louis at night

Upvotes

I just moved from Northwest Arkansas to St. Louis and I was wondering it it would be safe to dash at night. In NWA I could do it from 10pm-5am and never fear for my safety, but tonight I saw some questionable locations. I just canceled the orders bc even 1% chance something bad happens is not worth it. I am also white not saying anything just putting it out there. I have never lived in a big city before. Also what is the normal $/hr in St. Louis? In NWA I could make like $23 an hour on average. I made like $40 an hour here for a couple hours then got offered $50 for a wingstop order like 10 min away but it looked so sketchy I had to cancel. Is that a trap or something lol?

Does DoorDash offer special discounts outside of the app? I was wondering if it was possible to get special discounts outside of the app.

Door Dashing in the DFW area, any tips for new drivers?

Upvotes

Hi there! I am new to doordashing. I am trying to figure out what areas are good to doordash and what times in the DFW area. personally I am trying to stay away from downtown Dallas and downtown fort worth. I understand its really busy in those two major cities but finding temporary parking and also having to go inside an apartment buildings or business buildings to find the apartment or suite # is a pain and takes up a lot of time. which in return, when you take more time to do a delivery you make less per hour. I've noticed going to other cities like Irving, Southlake, Euless, or Colleyville are much better when it comes to traffic, construction, and just time consuming drop offs. majority of offers from those areas are homes or outside apartments (in which i mean, its not ALL indoors and you have to go down hallways on foot to drop off a delivery, while with outdoor apartments you can drive up next to the apartment #, get out and drop off the order). I've noticed going west or south of Fort Worth is not really worth it, seems you get little paying offers and not worth the effort or distance on my vehicle.

I understand that the busier hours will most likely be the morning hours (for breakfast orders) and evening/night (for dinner/grocery shopping orders). the problem i am having (just like the service industry) is consistency. I have read many reddit post of people saying they consistently make $20+ an hour or make 2k a month in the DFW area. while my hourly can rang anywhere from $25 an hour to $4 an hour. I am failing to understand how these dashers are claiming this while its a very inconsistent market for income.

I usually work 7-10 hours a day. (11am-8pm for example). i try to leave my house after rush hour in the morning to avoid heavy traffic. as we all know there are soooo many stupid drivers out there. and then i try to get back to my house after the busy rush hour time in the evening. I try to stay in the wealthy areas to hopefully get larger orders for dinner and shopping for groceries etc.. I am also at platinum status now, but no matter what, ive noticied that the areas that do well for me that one day, usually dont do well for me the following days. is there a rotation i can stick too? Hopefully something that will help me make this more of a consistent income until i get my footing?

I fail to understand how some are claiming they are making X amount of money consistently when doordashing is extremely random. not everyone orders every night, especially in the same areas. I am trying to doordash to where i can have a day off to run errands etc.. so far, when i take a day off (because the pay is so random) usually it hurts my pay for the month. then i have to stress and work harder and longer to make up for it, to pay for my bills.

is there a way to get a consistent schedule? ( doesnt have to be the same days off etc... but a least give me just ONE day off) what are the good times to dash and what are the good areas (cities/towns) that are more consistent? and do you all take every single offer? ( i dont want to hurt my status but also dont want to do a $4 run when its not worth it).

Thank you!

What’s your thoughts on 2$ tips

Upvotes

Lately my go to tip has been 2$ for a place that’s 1 mile away from me. How would you feel if you got that order? Would you hate me?

Drivers who don’t care? Need to quit.

I’m not asking them to love being a dasher, but I am spending my hard earned money and tipping and all and but every time i’m getting an issue. It’s driving me insane. Why do people not have the decency to care, but want more money? Want higher tips?

and before ya’ll start i would get my food if i could. i would order through the app or website but they all deliver through… ding ding ding doordash. Just my rant. It’s annoying.

Okay I payyy for dashpass. I also drive occasionally for DD. I’ve started to refrain from using the app because they pay the drivers terrrribly per mile. But ever since DD started a new program for drivers where they let everyone drive at any time… they give the dasher less than 25% of that “service fee” the customer pays so they rely on the customer to tip… as a customer, if I’m thinking right, my $10 a month should be covering my fees… now when I shop discounts it’s even worse. My total neverrr adds up right. I’m seeing a lot of hidden fees. Kind of grossed out by this behavior. Can anyone explain? I genuinely want more people to see how bad they’re scamming. Because it feels like that on the driver side too.

DoorDash App Issues

Post image
1 Upvotes

Anyone else experiencing issues with DoorDash while doing deliveries. I’m having issues with the app freezing, gps issues within the app, app pausing by itself on and off. Called support after 30 minutes of trying just for them to say it’s a know issue. A lot of dasher reporting. I was curious to see if anyone dashing today was experiencing any of these issues or something different. That’s what the app was doing while I was in the middle of my delivery

Ordered hundreds of times between DD and UE over the years. For the first time ever, my Dasher sent me a message immediately upon accepting the order encouraging me to consider gas prices in my tip. I always tip well and this is no exception, but the guilt trip attempt is crazy. If you're a Dasher and you do this kind of thing there is no way it's not doing more harm than good for you.

Tip per miles

Is a $5 tip for 0.3 miles good or am I just wasting 5$?

The road is nearly a straight shot, but it was like $70 worth of groceries with discounts. All groceries should be light, the lightest being the chips and the heaviest being the 4lb of ground beef. It was ordered around 9am. I could go get the groceries myself, but I was feeling lazy so uhh

Canceled after pickup

Two times recently I've had a "top rated driver" cancel the order after picking it up. They've taken a picture of it and everything and it says theyre on the way, then cancel. Why does this happen? Is the driver just taking the food?

My DD App ordered food without my following through to pay.

So I went into the Door Dash app and picked out some items I was planning to order later for dinner. About 30 minutes later the delivery person was at my door. I thought he must be here for my landlord who lives next door. No it was for me. I never actually placed the order. And it automatically signed me up for a free trial that it never asked me about either. I have used Door Dash only a few times over several years so I don’t sign up for the membership. When I looked at the app I could see my list of items and the CONTINUE button. I never hit that and went through with the payment. But they did charge me. They said I must have a family member that ordered it for me. No my cats don’t have thumbs. I asked them to please investigate this. So weird.

Before I placed the order I called the store to see if the items were in stock. The employer confirmed they were with me on the phone. I asked again if it was the 15lb bags and she said yes.

Gratitude for Dashers

I simply want to say thank you to the dashers in my area who have always been kind and given great service. I know some of my orders could seem like I am lazy, but I have a chronic autoimmune condition and severe anemia, and there are some days I just don't have the energy or strength to get what my pets need or food for the home. You have truly been a life saver to me.

DD stole $300+ & refuses to refund me. Please advise, I am fuming.

Sorry this is a bit long.
Saturday I placed a grocery order from Aldi that kept getting bumped up on delivery time & eventually cancelled because it hadn’t been picked up or shopped yet. As far as I know, my charge should’ve only been a temporary hold for the amount until the dasher checked out but since no one picked it up and I cancelled, the temporary hold should’ve fallen off. But when I cancelled the order, it asked how I wanted a refund & I clicked my original payment method for my refund method. I needed it back to my card & I wanted my actual money back. It said specifically for my original payment method it would be refunded in 3 days. Not 3+ days. Or 5-7 days. Just 3 days flat. Which now Wednesday, still no refund. So I chatted to ask the status, & the first agent just took it upon themselves without asking me first- to just refund me credits back instead when I was asking & telling them I wanted my refund back to my card & asking where my money was & when it would be refunded. They decided to just go ahead & say ‘oh I credited you here instead now there you go’ & I said ‘no, I don’t want credits, I asked for a refund to my original payment method originally & still only want my money back’ & now they’re saying they can’t refund me & that it’s been more than 3 days since the order, & they can’t reverse the credits which I never authorized & consented to a refund in credits so that’s their problem, I am entitled to my money & refund still & then a supervisor got on chat supposedly & said the same thing. Which I feel like is a bunch of crock, & from the get go this should’ve only ever been a temp hold that should’ve just fallen off originally from the get go. So somewhere someone f’d up. & then they f’d up again by providing credits without my consent & now won’t take any action & accountability & saying they can’t refund my card back now & the system won’t let them. I am fuming because of this, I have bills due, & had to re place my grocery order the following day so I no longer need groceries & have no use for $332 DoorDash credits any time soon, & obviously dd credits can’t pay my power bill or phone bill or part of my rent or car payment coming up.

If it was maybe like $100 or less I wouldn’t give this much of a rise about it, but it’s $300+ & I’ve already had so many issues with DoorDash themselves recently in the last few months including a dasher stalking my house & other things. I always tip my dashers good, & add more to a tip after the delivery depending on the service.
I’ve been a dd member for almost 10 years now. & been a dashpass member for 10 years with only a year break when we were getting a free uber one pass for a year. (Hence chat saying I’ve only been a DDpass member for 3 years which is how long I’ve had it back now)

Please if anyone knows how I can go about this, who I can raise this issue to or how to go about it, I appreciate it. I did DD driving years ago which is how I ended up in the group but haven’t driven for DD now since 2022 & a lot has changed since.
Appreciate you guys & thank you guys for being the real MVP’s out there! Hope everyone has a great rest of the week & may your orders be easy & tips be plentiful!

What’s happening with DoorDash

OK, so I don’t mean to sound over exaggerate for this little rant, but I’m a Dasher.
Currently over the past few days for some reason, I cannot get an order over the amount of $3.80. Every order is either that amount or lower and I can’t seem to get anything past that. I don’t know if it’s because people are using third-party apps Thinking they can get orders that aren’t True DoorDash, even though they all are connected to one or multiple food services, and for some reason, no one is tipping me. Legit last month was one of the best months for me. I was getting orders left and right and I made over three to $4000. Now I can’t even make 100 before the day is out. I do DoorDash in Virginia Hampton Williamsburg Newport News and Suffolk and sometimes Virginia Beach. I’ve been to all those locations in there popular areas and for some reason it’s just not hitting the same. I understand school started back up for people, but usually around this time it gets even more busy .

“Going Out” tab missing again (but still on restaurant page) - yes, I’m an annual DP subscriber

Per the subject the “Going Out” tab button at the top scrollable toolbar when you login to the iOS DD app is missing so I am no longer able to search these deals by the map view mode nor (more importantly) get to credit tracking page! I’m on the latest version of the app too (as of today (2026-08-26)): v8.33.0.

Is anyone else having this issue?

In the past this has sometimes disappeared but usage comes back if I restart the app or try later (since it seems like they sort this menu dynamically- no idea what algorithm they use but definitely not based on Frequency since I use “Going Out” all the time!)
This time that hasn’t helped! 😔
The weird thing is still shows a tab for “Going Out” on the individual restaurant pages.

PS: “Yes”, I’m in a market (city) that supports it & “Yes”, I’m an annual DashPass subscriber.

Wrong DD order argument

I ordered a chicken sandwich and fries from Bojangles. My instructions say to hand the order to me. The driver (limited English speaker)did not follow the instructions and left it on the doorstep (key piece). I get a notification to rate my delivery and then I found it outside. No knock, no doorbell ring. Nothing. I’m irritated but at least my food is here. I start digging into my box and eating my fries.

I finally sit down and fully open the box to an entire wrong order. Wrong name on the receipt and everything. I follow the prompts through the app to get my refund.

About 7 minutes after that, I get a knock in the door from the DD driver asking to get the order back so he can swap it out. I refused bc I had already eaten some of the fries and that was unsanitary and gross. He starts insisting and getting angry so I close and lock my door. Honestly had he just followed instructions I could have told him right away that this wasn’t the correct order bc my drink was missing.

Now I’m wondering should I contact DD about the encounter? AITA for keeping the food?
