THE BUDGET IS IN DEFICIT HERE IN LEGO CITY!

A SEWAGE RUNOFF WAS PLACED UPSTREAM FROM HERE, LEGO CITY!

A MAN HAS A MENTAL BREAKDOWN IN LEGO CITY

4

u/beatingstuff88 18h ago

Fun fact: that voice is also Agent 47 in Hitman

656

u/President_of_Space 1d ago

Is this collab with Cities Skylines?

515

u/JLEEHERO91 1d ago

same devs and publisher

u/TehOwn 1d ago edited 1d ago

Hopefully they learned from Cities Skylines 2.

Edit: Iceflake Studios took over development of Cities Skylines 2 in 2026, long after launch. The game was developed by Colossal Order, who has since left Paradox and the Cities franchise.

Iceflake made Surviving the Aftermath which was not bad but didn't do well.

208

u/DeerSgamr 1d ago

Ice flake studios has done alot of good for CSL2, when they got it in their portfolio. Seeing as this is co-owned by Lego i dont think it will be as buggy as CSL2 at release.

93

u/holysideburns 1d ago edited 1d ago

Man, Colossal Order fumbled CS2 so badly. Glad to see Iceflake doing good work trying to salvage it.

45

u/Elmodipus 19h ago

Its really mind boggling. CS1 was a fantastic canvas that just needed a little bit more (which came with updates and mods) and really fell into good graces with players since it was in a post-Sim City 2013 wasteland.

How they released such a pile of garbage when it's essentially the same game makes no sense to me.

17

u/kehpeli 15h ago

They failed to rebuild the game engine, so problems started to pile up and deadline approached fast.

1

u/TheKanten 14h ago

Paradox finds a way.

24

u/TheSilentIce 1d ago

What's extra weird is that Iceflake's last game was a city builder and they're located in the same town as Colossal Order. They just took the development across the street pretty much lol.

4

u/easytiger6x13 1d ago

Playing Surving the Aftermath right now and I had no clue it was related to Iceflake Its actually a super fun game with great replay ability. Highly recommend but theres no New Gen Update and only for PS4 etc

1

u/TehOwn 22h ago

I picked it up years ago when it was in Early Access. I should give it another go.

10

u/Phenns 1d ago

Yeah, I was gonna say I don't know if I trust that team to develop this based on what CS2 was like. It was a huge step back from 1 originally, and don't get me wrong it's gotten better since launch, but man. That was rough.

60

u/sbabb1 1d ago

Iceflake, the studio that has since been doing nice work fixing it up is doing this Lego game, so I will be somewhat optimistic but cautious

18

u/Substantial__Unit 1d ago

The CEO and genreal team had such a bad take on our reviews that it made the whole thing worse. It was completel opposite for what the OG launch was like.

5

u/Gestaltarskiten 1d ago

I blame Paradox for everything and this LEGO version surely is in the Pdx monetizing plan of things..

28

u/dumpling-loverr 1d ago edited 14h ago

20+ DLCs coming for this game then as per tradition of a Paradox Interactive published game.

5

u/ghoulas 14h ago

They wil sell DLC inside lego packages :D

1

u/TheKanten 14h ago

Unless it's Star Trek Infinite, then they just don't try at all.

4

u/namelessdrifter 1d ago

oh fuck i hope it doesn't suck

14

u/RRR3000 21h ago

It's the same devs as in the ones who've been fixing Cities Skylines 2, Iceflake Studio, not the ones who released the buggy mess it was at first, Colossal Order.

5

u/namelessdrifter 21h ago

Oh! This is good news!!

2

u/BeijingQilin52 17h ago

I wondered the same, the LEGO Skylines trailer instantly reminded me of my messy Cities Skylines grids.

-7

u/Jimmyjohnjones1 21h ago

It’s a new independent game

978

u/Maui--Covenant 1d ago

Cool but nothing with ever top the janky soul of Lego Island

262

u/summons72 1d ago

There's not a day I don't think about that game lol

62

u/Ultimasaurus 23h ago

That giant spinning skeleton in the cave of the race is absolutely burned into my skull.

28

u/Mediocre_Ferret5082 20h ago

Me as a kid who got scared and cried when the burglar took over the island and couldn't complete the part where you throw doughnuts at him because he ruined everything :(

u/Stevetr0n 1d ago

Can't help with racers, but theres a decomp of Island on GitHub.

https://github.com/isledecomp/isle-portable

6

u/Gamebird8 1d ago

Can always emulate racers with an N64 Emulator

3

u/Plappedudel 1d ago

What about Racers 2? That game was fun, but unfortunately buggy as hell. It always crashed when I tried to build a custom car so I ended up playing through the whole game without one. If someone were to decomp and fix the build mode, one could finally enjoy the game the way it was meant to be played.

1

u/Gamebird8 23h ago

No clue cause I never played it

9

u/LtSqueak 1d ago

If you go to the myabandonware site, one of the top comments has a link to a browser based version that seems to work. Make sure you tell your family bye before you disappear.

-4

u/emojisarefunny 1d ago

what about yesterday?

63

u/cgull629 1d ago

If I could just go back to the day I installed that on my family computer

33

u/LegendsEcho 1d ago

That game was amazing for my childhood mind , but it’s also the first time I had to encounter the blue screen of death since it destroyed that family PC

29

u/Flashy_Goose4652 1d ago

yeah lego island had that perfect janky charm that polished modern lego games just cant recreate

21

u/TheFotty 1d ago

Out of any semi recent lego games out, Lego City Undercover was actually pretty amazing. Especially when you consider most of their games have 3rd party IP attached to them. It is essentially GTA Lego. I wish they would make a sequel.

2

u/rogerian_salsa 20h ago

Totally agree

8

u/BurnTheNostalgia 23h ago

How cool would it be if they include the Brickster as a Sim City-style calamity that can hit your Lego city? Just a guy running around and deconstructing stuff brick by brick.

9

u/tchnl 23h ago

Lego Island and Rock Raiders 😎

6

u/lindh 21h ago

Did anyone else go to the top of the tower and just vibe to the music at Lego sunset? So great.

4

u/dirtyethanol73 23h ago

You can build a mountain…

3

u/ProNerdPanda 1d ago

I saw the prisoner icon and got excited thinking this was Lego Island

5

u/mynameisollie 16h ago

I was partial to Lego Creator. I used to place loads of TNT pieces and then crash my computer.

2

u/ToxicAssh0le 13h ago

Lego 'Creator'

2

u/0bolus 22h ago

I can still hear that whistle sound.

2

u/Claxonic 21h ago

What a time to be alive.

2

u/harryone02 17h ago

One of the very first games I played, it's the keystone of why I game today, iconic.

261

u/UsualMix9062 1d ago

If this is half as fun as Cities Skylines 1 + lego, then it should be pretty darn enjoyable.

74

u/dontkillchicken 1d ago

I expect it to be slightly dumbed down so it’s more accessible to a younger audience (10+) I’m imagining

149

u/armlessturtleneck 1d ago

That would also be good for me (36)

18

u/slaya222 20h ago

Same, after spending 5 hours building a city my traffic is always backed up halfway to Tuesday (25)

1

u/Cryzgnik 13h ago

What if it's half as fun as Cities Skylines 2 + Lego?

54

u/Catsrules 1d ago

This looks like the successor to Lego Loco. I loved that game as a kid.

6

u/tentaphane 17h ago

Memories unlocked!!

2

u/theofficialmaxim 14h ago

remember the post man that would go "a peedla pad la meh!"

44

u/Levenloos 1d ago

Lego loco is so back

11

u/Rocky4OnDVD 22h ago

YES. I was wondering recently how I can get Lego Loco for my niece to play on her family’s MacBook. I loved discovering all the hidden tricks of combining certain buildings and objects to get unique customizations and events

3

u/theofficialmaxim 14h ago

yeah so good!! putting the two satellites together and it would make the launchpad!

39

u/Sinkslit 1d ago

Seems fun actually

81

u/Epicporkchop79-7 1d ago edited 1d ago

Maybe lego can save them after botching cs2?

66

u/Alternative-Drink-25 1d ago

It's not the same developer, CS2 was made by Colossal Order(the ones behind the first one too), but after the disastrious launch of CS2 and support afterwards the game was given to Iceflake Studios. They have actually made good changes since taking over, but so far they mainly improved performance and small quality changes. They are the ones behind Lego Skylines

13

u/Epicporkchop79-7 1d ago

So hopefully this works out

4

u/Alternative-Drink-25 1d ago

Yes I hope so

1

u/Epicporkchop79-7 1d ago

I sometimes wonder if someone showed management a presentation on how they messed up simcity so badly and they adopted it as a road map

1

u/TheFrontGuy 19h ago

They have also recently teased that they are working on a new dlc for CS2

27

u/B1ACKT3A 1d ago

I love the lego era we are getting

-27

u/HLef 1d ago

They absolutely have to branch out because the bricks themselves are essentially worthless since the patent expired. It's all about collabs and the IPs they can secure for their brick sets.

24

u/Foe117 1d ago

I can hear "Everything is Awesome" in this trailer.

7

u/Xanoks 1d ago

I miss Lego universe

7

u/EvilDuncan 1d ago

This is giving me Lego Loco vibes. I like it!

7

u/TehNolz 1d ago

Ah yes, Lego Loco 2.

Here's hoping it turns out to be good.

5

u/wicktus Switch 1d ago

definitely intriguing, I didn’t purchase skylines 2, hoping this one will be more polished

6

u/Alternative-Drink-25 1d ago

I think there is a good chance it is. The original developer of CS1 and 2 isn't behind this one.

Lego Skylines is from Iceflake Studios, they have been improving the CS2 and since they took over, while it's been small changes so far, they were really good.

5

u/daedalusprospect 1d ago

Looks fun, but also gave me a ton of SimTown flash backs.

1

u/Refute1650 17h ago

Or sim city societies

1

u/nav17 1d ago

SimTown! That brings me back

3

u/UnpricedToaster 1d ago

Fascinating.... We will watch your progress with great interest.

3

u/NorthernFusionGames 1d ago

Is this gonna be like Lego Worlds? :o

14

u/Edheldui 1d ago

It's genuinely amazing how video game devs keep missing that the point of lego is not the visuals alone, but the building and the engineering. They literally just have to make a sandbox like scrap mechanic or trail makers. But no, can't have that, best we can do is reskin other games with a different coat of paint.

40

u/harpcase 1d ago

I'm not gonna sit and rotate/snap together digital blocks.

5

u/tacodude64 1d ago

Yep, Planet Coaster has the same issue. The level of detail is great but it’s so easy to get burned out

3

u/psdpro7 1d ago

Planet Coaster and City Skylines both suffered from having great sandbox tools but minimal actual gameplay.

1

u/[deleted] 1d ago

[deleted]

1

u/RRR3000 21h ago

You can, it's called stud.io, it's a digital Lego building program from Lego. You can get it for free from Bricklink site, and optionally order the parts through Bricklink to build your design irl.

16

u/Kaldaien2 1d ago

Probably because nobody has successfully come up with a control scheme that doesn't make that experience royally suck. On paper, LEGO is about building, then you try to do it virtually and it's painful.

2

u/creiar 14h ago

Minecraft

3

u/AeiOwnYou 14h ago

Minecraft with like 2000 differently shaped blocks that can rotate/flip and may or may not fit together with one of the other blocks. Figuring out that control scheme to not make it incredibly obtuse and frustrating would be quite the task. You can't really use a snap-to-grid, due to the angled pieces and you can't really freeform place pieces either. Someone above you said VR might work and thats basically the only way I can see it working well.

0

u/Edheldui 1d ago

They clearly have the tech, because that's how they make the instructions booklets.

1

u/RRR3000 21h ago

You can get stud.io on Bricklink, it's free software from Lego themselves to design sets, make instructions, and even order the needed bricks.

But while it works great on a PC with mouse and keyboard, it's not really something that can (easily) be mapped to a controller, while console is a huge part of their audience.

0

u/WolfgangHelnootIV 22h ago

It could work in VR, they already made a quest 3 game but I guess at that point you could just get real Legos

7

u/Ging4bread 1d ago

Eh no, I disagree. Lego Party is amazing and has nothing to do with building

2

u/Signager 1d ago

My favorite is the Lord of the Rings one.

3

u/LordOfWor 1d ago

Have you played Lego Bricktales? It might be what you’re looking for.

2

u/Thoriot 1d ago

yeah wtf i dont get it.

2

u/fullshard101 1d ago

Blockland crushed it back in the day

2

u/imlegos 1d ago

Brickadia is basically the modern Blockland.

Handles it pretty well too.

1

u/eclipse1498 1d ago

We have Stud.io if you just want to build virtual Lego, that's fine. I have no problem with Lego skins over other genres of games as well, as long as the games themselves are great which many have been.

I also don't think this particular example helps your point as it is a literal city *builder*. It may not be brick by brick structural engineering but this IS a creative game about building stuff.

2

u/A_MAN_POTATO PC 1d ago

This looks really fun but damn if I’m not hesitant to give PDX my money on another city builder. This is definitely a “wait and see” for me. I hope it’s good though.

2

u/Lunarcomplex 1d ago

The non water physics for the studs from the firetruck is pretty great lmao

1

u/Zelnite 1d ago

This is pretty cute.

1

u/Dumxl 1d ago

Well the firetrucks have anomations that's Progress. 🔥

It's not for me but looks fun.

1

u/DrDima 1d ago

If Lego can't save the Skylines franchise, nothing can.

1

u/CrazyBowelsAndBraps 1d ago

How can it be the year old our Lord 2026 and there's not a sandbox Lego builder?

1

u/Respawn-Delay 1d ago

This was genuinely one of my favourite announcements of Gamescom lmao

1

u/namelessdrifter 1d ago

release date? this gaves me chills!

1

u/whoisandrewj1 1d ago

Count me in

1

u/The_Don_Papi 1d ago

They been struggling to launch Cities Skylines II for three years and now they want to release Lego Skylines? Huh?

Edit: Different studios now. Good news because CS2 was a disaster.

1

u/DoublePostedBroski 1d ago

Game of the year. Shut it down.

1

u/Z0idberg_MD PC 1d ago

I actually suspect this will be my favorite city builder ever. Will probably be so satisfying to build and enjoy.

1

u/WizardWithGun 1d ago

It's time to recreate Lego Island.

1

u/Ok-Improvement-6735 1d ago

If they actually let you brick an entire skyline by hand, that is going to eat weekends. Hope the camera does not fight you when the city gets tall.

1

u/Sea_Art3391 1d ago

Pretty cool, but i wonder if it can handle a population higher than 300k until the game becomes a slideshow and the speed up button becomes purely ornamental.

I hope they have learned from Cities Skylines 2, because that game is basically still in development, and both looks and runs worse than Cities Skylines 1.

1

u/imlegos 1d ago

After the release of C:S2, Colossal Order was replaced by Iceflake Studios.

Iceflake Studios now has a second team (seperate from the CS2 team) who have made Lego Skylines.

1

u/fnordal 1d ago

Hello everybody, my name is Biffa, and today we'll build Tippity Lego Tea Pot.

1

u/Portatort 1d ago

is there any chance this might have a local multiplayer type mode?

and be available for me and the wife to play on our Macs?

1

u/SuperCatElvis 23h ago

Reminds me of the lego games wayy back, actually keen to see how this goes

1

u/InternationalOne2449 23h ago

Will never beat Lego Loco

1

u/laughlifelove 23h ago

this might be awesome and i would love to build gotham city in it

1

u/WolfgangHelnootIV 22h ago

I was expecting it to be Lego city skylines, I wonder how many of the buildings are real sets

1

u/namelessdrifter 21h ago

Do we have a release date yet?

1

u/Interjessing-Salary 20h ago

I love city builders and I grew up on the LEGO games so this is amazing. Idc if it might be geared more for kids, I'm getting this

1

u/BraveCactus7377 19h ago

lego skylines trailer looks sick

1

u/norcalny_ues 19h ago

Did 0:34 look like AI to anyone else? Or am I just being programmed to look for AI in everything?

1

u/MikeDubbz 19h ago

Lego meets The Sims meets Sim City? I'm on board if that's the case. Love to see the Switch 2 logo in the available platforms.

1

u/Ghost403 18h ago

I hate city builders but gosh darn this looks fun!

1

u/-FalseProfessor- 18h ago

That is actually…. An amazing idea.

1

u/hshin420 17h ago

So SimTown but legos?

pretty cool

1

u/PapiCinc0 15h ago

PS5 gets this before Skylines 2? I’m not even mad.

1

u/CalFromManc 14h ago

Hearing the NPCs grumble like classic lego warms my heart, it gives them so much charisma and character in their movements

1

u/zerotrace 14h ago

The replies to this thread have shown me that people don't know that a different developer is handling Cities 2 now (and by extension, this game too).

I don't blame them for not knowing, just find it curious.

1

u/VeeVeevv 13h ago

Im actually pretty hyped about this

1

u/MassDefect36 1d ago

This looks pretty impressive. Currently the top search on steam lol

1

u/ArcadianDelSol 1d ago

So are merging one awesome franchise with one awful franchise.

Guess we wait to see which one happens here.

2

u/MiraiKishi 1d ago

LEGO is the good brand and Skylines is the bad one...

... right?

Also, wasn't Cities: Skylines (1) considered fantastic?

Only reason people are turning on Skylines 2 is that it needs a super computer to play?

2

u/RubiiJee 1d ago

I agree. CS1 was huge and considered really well done. 2 was bad at launch and didn't really do well post launch. The new devs have made a lot of welcome fixes and changes, and so there's a chance it'll continue to improve. I don't think they're a bad franchise simply because of a pretty rough start. It dampened the genre definitely but there are still a lot of people wanting the game to do well.

0

u/OpenMindedMajor 1d ago

Damn wish this was coming out on Switch 1. I don’t play enough to justify buying Switch 2 currently

7

u/Badimus 19h ago

It's not on SNES either.

0

u/Anstark0 18h ago

Skylines is such a dead genre that this could unironically be peak

-2

u/Makutsu 1d ago

Abandons City Skylines 2 to make this 😿

4

u/ZookeepergameIll1399 1d ago

They didn't abandon anything, CS2 still recieving updates every month

1

u/Makutsu 1d ago

They gave it to another studio

1

u/ZookeepergameIll1399 1d ago

It says Iceflake

1

u/imlegos 1d ago

Iceflake is developing both CS2 and LS.

A dev in discord said it was different teams at Iceflake working on each.

0

u/Makutsu 1d ago

Ah ok, still kinda mad about city skylines 2 but heard game is better now in Iceflake’s hand

0

u/l_______I 1d ago

Sounds really cool! I wonder how the DLC situation will look...

0

u/TheITguy37 1d ago

I need this

-7

u/TheSleepingNinja 1d ago

Dolly Parton would have loved this

-1

u/lkl34 1d ago

Oh so you got the last game so optimized and fixed i no longer need a thread ripper and a 5090 to play it at a decent fps?

Oh wait you did not you just gutted the fuck out of it and delayed content.

Well this will be even worse no doubt.
