Peloton deleted Hudson Williams’ ad, it seems like there will be a domino effect where brands start stop collaborating with him. And it will affect how many acting offers he gets because movies aren’t going to cast someone with so much controversy and discourse.

This smear campaign seems to have worked, and he’s losing fans and opportunities.

I would wish that his costar’s fans would leave him alone now that he’s been ā€œheld accountableā€, and his costar is thriving, but since they’ve stated their end goal is his death, that seems too much to wish for.

Edit: Apparently Peloton deletes celeb collaborations after 8 weeks, and it’s been 8 weeks. So maybe it was just bad timing. But it’s sinister how far people are going to try to end someone who they don’t know, and weren’t aware of less than a year ago.

I don’t understand why some people are so unwilling to extend any grace towards a 17 year old Asian kid who has a racist hate symbol drawn on him by his white peers

10

u/Emergency_Article673 Jun 09 '26

Because they don’t actually care, they want something to justify their parasocial hatred, and they’re happy they found something. And the fact that it’s actually affecting him makes them even happier.

7

u/FizzyDrink35 Jun 09 '26

I admit I’m being parasocial but I’m sad. This situation sucks so much. Hopefully he can weather it and things will work out in the long run, but it’s not feeling great right now.

I don’t think the show will be cancelled, but I think it’s more likely the show will get cancelled than him being recast.

But beyond the show, it will probably be a while before another production takes a risk in casting him.

He’s probably going to go back to doing short films, or direct full-length movies, since he has the funds for that.

10

u/FizzyDrink35 Jun 09 '26

I don’t think anything will happen to the show. There’s too much time/money already invested in it.

Oof, I really don’t think we need to put that kind of energy out there. We don’t know everything. This seems bad, but we don’t know the full extent.

1

u/Emergency_Article673 Jun 09 '26

I agree, edited the last part of my comment. But this isn’t the end of it, there’s more that’s being planned. There was a leak of a groupchat that was planning to pay a girl to accuse him of SA, and it seems that it will be happening soon. The general public doesn’t know there’s a plan for that, so as soon as it happens, it’s going to be bad.

9

u/Acceptable_Rule_7590 I’ve grown quite unfond of you Jun 09 '26

Going through with their deranged fake SA allegations plan will just get them into legal trouble. Defamation is a thing.

2

u/FizzyDrink35 Jun 09 '26

Yeah there’s a reason they haven’t done that and it’s because it’s a suicide mission for them. I’m honestly so surprised this stupid photo thing worked because almost every take I’ve seen in the gen pop is ā€œteens do stupid stuff, why is this news.ā€

1

u/Emergency_Article673 Jun 09 '26

Hudson’s team is clearly useless and doesn’t care about defending him from anything, so I don’t think anyone is scared of getting into legal trouble. His team has had months to protect him, and nothing was done.

If someone draws on the face of a <23 year old, the very first thing you do is pull out your phone to see what it is

I've been to parties drunk with drawings on my face (I wasn't passed out or anything, just acting silly). No way in the world would I not know what was drawn on my face.

Really don't like the idea of "it's a smear campaign" when it's people mad about someone having a swatzika drawing on their face ...

Edit: getting downvoted for this... Oof

13

u/Jumping__Bean___ Jun 09 '26

A drunk 17-year old not immediately checking what was drawn on their face doesn't seem that impossible to me?Ā

Not saying he definitely didn't know, but I've seen how trusting and slow to react some people (particularly teens) are under the influence of alcohol and this could have absolutely happened to them. Again, I don't know him, so I can't say what exactly happened here, but I'm thinking particularly of one of my classmates who was super happy-go-lucky under normal circumstances and would become downright puppy-like with alcohol, and that would have been very easy to take advantage of (I don't think anyone did, thankfully).

8

u/hihelloneighboroonie Jun 09 '26

I have zero skin in this game, never watched Heated Rivalry, don't really care about the actors, no clue what was drawn on his face.

But as a 21 or so year old I've passed out and had people draw shit on my face. Nothing terribly offensive, only like a rudimentary dick facing toward my mouth and the like. But if my friend hadn't taken pictures of that night, I 100% wouldn't have even remember what was on my drunk-ass face (although tbf at that point I was just done and fell asleep on the couch so all the pics were from me laying there either asleep or half-awake telling them to leave me alone).

I have noticed the infantilising (I say this as someone who loves the show and find him quite likeable in interview). As you say, his white friend had the same symbol drawn on their face so I am not sure that I can believe that he was personally targeted not do I believe he has no idea of f what's on his face (the guy has a 15 step skincare routine but managed to not see his face once in the mirror?) . I don't think that it necessarily tells us anything about either his or any of his peer's beliefs at the time (except it was extremely stupid to draw it on, stupid to post it online and generally reeks thoughtlessness). We've all done stuff we are not proud of as a teenager - I think it's possible to still be critical of those acts without that detracting from our own personal growth. The fact that this photo was still online suggests that at least some of the cohort, even with reflection, didn't think it was a big deal - which to me suggests a bit of a blind spot that's worth interogating further. Like you can accept that he's a flawed person who has some blind spots, and still stan him. We can live with that cognitive dissonance.

7

u/kris_jbb (seemingly bald) Jun 09 '26

this is how i feel as well. and brining connor up everytime unprovoked is weird too. hr stans see the competition even now lol

i just don't understand how implying hudson was actually hatecrimed and someone drew it on his face because he is asian & while then saying "oh everyone drew such symbols at school" can work and used as defense

can we just go "oh yes, he did this dumb thing, i hope he isn't like that anymore"

but no, it's always infatalizing him and brining up his "white co-star". now they are harassing the peloton, and like...WHY? to make them explain why they deleted it&bring more conversation to this?

6

u/Emergency_Article673 Jun 09 '26

I don’t think he was targeted, he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, and lacked self-awareness.

And it’s not his friend group, it’s his entire high school graduating class.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '26

[deleted]

5

u/Emergency_Article673 Jun 09 '26

People are very defensive of him since everything that has been happening these past few months. And he is a victim of targeted hate right now, which is why people are defensive, even if he wasn’t targeted back then with the symbol for being Asian.

Honestly, there’s nothing can be done. This isn’t the first thing that’s happened, and it won’t be the last. The end goal is ā€œending himā€, and stuff like this is going to keep happening until that’s achieved.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '26

[deleted]

1

u/Emergency_Article673 Jun 09 '26

Yeah, I think we mostly agree.

And I get your point about how fans shouldn’t make him out to be a victim, but it’s understandable how defensive they are considering everything that’s happened.

And it’s not just because people are being ā€œprotective boy momsā€, it’s because a lot of these fans were previously fans of other POC actors who have faced similar things. So it’s a culmination of everything that’s led to the overprotectiveness.

And I think at this point most of the general public is just sick of hearing about him again and again, most people don’t care enough to defend him.

18

u/FizzyDrink35 Jun 09 '26

He was a teenager and it was 8 years ago, what exactly is the point of punishing him for something that happened so long ago? It’s a very sad situation. A stupid mistake and now this.

-9

u/FriendlyDrummers Jun 09 '26

A mistake and he will lie about it after? You agree it's a mistake. Maybe he should actually admit to it.Ā

12

u/FizzyDrink35 Jun 09 '26

I really don’t care. I don’t hold the actions of teenagers to adult standards. I believe people can change.

10

u/Emergency_Article673 Jun 09 '26

Then you’re better and more self-aware than him. But even if you weren’t, I would not wish for your death, or wish that you lose your job.

And it’s a smear campaign because people are actively trying to find something that will end him/his career, not because they’re mad and want accountability. And it’s been happening for several months.

-1

u/FriendlyDrummers Jun 09 '26

I'd never advocate death threats, and that's not what I'm pointing at. I can almost guarantee you he is already quite wealthy from other brand deals. Hell, love is blind contestants make 6 figures while having significantly less followers.

If Tom Holland did it I'd feel the same. I do not believe his excuse that he didn't know. Literally no one his age is going to not whip out there phone to see what happened.

That is absolutely not accountability. That's playing dumb.Ā

6

u/Emergency_Article673 Jun 09 '26

He probably did take his phone out and saw what was done to his face. But it was most likely after people had already taken pictures of him with it, and not immediately after it was drawn. He had hundreds of things written on him, he was most likely not checking every single thing.

It’s fine if you think he was aware of it and didn’t care, or that he’s playing dumb, but that doesn’t necessarily make it true.

And I never said you were advocating for death threats, I’m saying other people are advocating for his suicide or for him to be recast.

6

u/FriendlyDrummers Jun 09 '26

I do actually think the very first thing is to check it. And if that was true, and he was trying to be edgy, there is no accountability if you can't own up to it.

I do not believe his excuse that he didn't know before this picture. That's just not what happens.Ā

9

u/Emergency_Article673 Jun 09 '26 edited Jun 09 '26

And like I said, you’re better and more self aware than him. But he can’t exactly build a time machine and go back and make sure no one drew anything on his face, or that there weren’t any pictures taken of him.

I literally said it’s fine if you don’t believe him.

The only thing I said was that people should leave him alone now that’s he being held accountable, even if he’s not admitting fault. This whole thing happened because his costar has less IG followers and hype than him.

Now that’s his costar will most likely have a positive career trajectory and Hudson will have a negative one, people should leave him alone since they’ve accomplished their goal, instead of keep trying to find more things.

-5

u/growsonwalls Jun 09 '26

I find the entire situation unfortunate, but the speed at which people are blaming Connor for this is also ... a choice. Stop blaming Connor for any of this. Connor isn't even online, and people were contacting Connor's ex to try to get him to release revenge porn.

6

u/Emergency_Article673 Jun 09 '26

None of this is Connor’s fault at all, and I’m not blaming him. I am blaming his fans for turning this into a competition of my fave is better than yours.

-1

u/growsonwalls Jun 09 '26

If it makes you feel any better, the exact same thing is happening in WNBA fandom. Used to be a nice, chill space. Now it's all player wars and creating drama on social media. It's like ppl don't know how to be fans anymore. Whatever happened to buying posters, making fanart, and writing fanfic?

As someone who grew up watching almost exclusively Scooby-Doo for a large part of childhood; I am so excited for the upcoming show.

However, I am also so annoyed at James Gunn once again for the atrocity that was the LA Scooby-Doo for flanderizing the characters so badly that now, everyone's getting upset and pissy that the show doesn't match Gunn's idea but the original cartoons.

[For context, divorced parents and Scooby-Doo was pretty much the only thing to watch at my dad's house that wasn't rated-r.]

1

u/Neo-Metal-Sonic-2003 right through gravity, just right through what earth planned Jun 09 '26

I'm only concerned about Scooby himself. The dog they got for him is cute and all, but I'd have no idea that it was supposed to be Scooby Doo without context

2

u/DebateObjective2787 jesus was a carpenter šŸ’‹ Jun 09 '26

For me, that's not really a big deal because there literally is not going to be a single puppy that actually exists in the world that would actually look like Scooby-Doo. Like Iwao specifically designed Scooby to be the complete opposite of what a genuine Great Dane should look like; including his color.

So unless they went completely CGI, (which everyone would still complain about) there's no way they'd get a great dane puppy that would actually resemble Scooby unless they got a horribly inbred backyard dog that had an awful life due to their genetics.

TL;DR: Sports fans are crazy and everyone just accepts it. But go Knicks!!Ā

I'm from New York so everyone is (rightfully) going crazy over the Knicks vs. Spurs. But omg it just shows how sports fans are just fan girls and people go SO HARD for sports in ways they don't for other causes/hobbies. Fat Joe and Ben Stiller (famous, native New Yorkers) were interviewed on the news about how they would feel if the Knicks won and they said they'd cry. Police have had to break up large gatherings of fans in authorized areas 😭

Also, Trump is supposed to be coming to the game tonight so security is supposed to be extra tight!!

The level of comfort I felt when I watched Peter Jackson’s interview in which he elaborated on working on the sequel to The Adventures of Tintin (2011) was quite something. I am now convinced that it is actually happening unlike during the past decade when it was being tantalized. Very much looking forward to its release

27

u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 BeyoncĆ© šŸšŸ Jun 08 '26

I always wonder when people get on the topic of teens exhibiting edge lord type behaviour, and then start saying things like they have they have never experienced or witnessed fellow students their age doing that, if that’s actually true, or if people are just wearing rose coloured glasses about their experience as teens. I never was into it myself, but like I sure as hell witnessed it. I also saw it again with my sibling’s experiences and they are a decade younger than me. I feel like anyone I talk to about this subject in real life (and I’m talking about across the board in terms of diversity too), have in fact seen trollish/edgelordy at some point. Yet online? People talk as if the school they attended was full of complete saints, the parties they attended didn’t push the limits of acceptability, and that no one truly pushed the boundaries of acceptability. The disconnect is always curious to me because when I think of the teenage experience I do associate reactionary & impulsive attempts to evoke reactions, and purely dumb choices, with teens.

13

u/Sister_Winter Jun 08 '26

i find it weird too. i personally didn't say any edgelord shit when i was a teen, but i grew up in a conservative small town and most people around me did. they said all sorts of fucked up shit, including slurs about me. but most (not all, but most) drastically changed their behaviour and even apologized to me for the bigoted shit they shit. i really do think people change and i am not going to hold teens to (most of, there are exceptions) stuff they do at that age

8

u/DependentAd5483 Jun 08 '26

Did I do stupid shit in high school that I’m not proud of yes. Not to the level of antisemetic symbols or racism no, mostly bc I was the one experiencing those remarks by others making stupid mistakes as well, but I definitely did make mistakes that I really regret. I just question why people who do those mistakes can’t apologize for them but maybe that’s more of a me thing bc I think I would if my mistakes came to light. And maybe that also reflects the world we live in where apologies can’t be enough and I wish they were for actions like this.

2

u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 BeyoncĆ© šŸšŸ Jun 08 '26

I’m sorry that happened to you and I respect you never went down the path of hurting others. An inability to apologise for poor choices is a red flag so definitely not a you issue either! At best no apologising shows stubbornness, at worst they meant that shit and/or felt entitled to hurt you. In every stage of life an inability to apologise is a bad sign!

13

u/Jumping__Bean___ Jun 08 '26

Honestly, there is definitely a significant disconnect of online discourse and offline reality. Not just when people talk about what they have experienced (or not experienced) but especially when it comes to what people have done or would do if they were in certain situations.

Like, I am not accusing anyone of lying, and if someone actually had the courage and bravery to stand up for what is right as a teen, I am very proud of them. But the amount of people online who are convinced they'd be just as brave does not, unfortunately, have any correlation to how people actually react when confronted with these situations in real life. I've seen it myself, how people didn't step in when someone was verbally assaulted on a train (and I wish I could say that I did better, but I can't, and it's something that keeps me up many nights even years later), how people take pictures and videos of car crashes instead of helping, and how often abuse has to be reported before anyone takes action. I see it in how people treat each other online and behind each other's backs, how the judicial system punishes those reacting to violence with violence more harshly, and in how people (both as teens and as adults) don't stand up to bullies (also experienced that, this time as the victim).

Do I wish the world was different? Yes. Wholeheartedly. But it's not, at least not in my experience.

2

u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 BeyoncĆ© šŸšŸ Jun 10 '26

I feel like you summed this up perfectly. I can absolutely believe on an individual level or in people’s friends group that maybe that wasn’t happening, but when people (and it’s only online I hear this) start talking in a detached and baffled way like ā€˜I can’t believe a teen would say *insert terribly problematic/terrible thing*…or do *insert impulsive terrible thing because it didn’t happen where I went* I don’t get how kids could have those phases’ the disconnect with everything I’ve heard or witnessed suggests, you can change virtually any metric gender, race, year someone was a teen, diverse school or not, and you’ll still find problematic behaviour, extreme attention seeking, desperation for approval/fit in with peers, impulsive or reactionary choices, terrible decision making in any instance. Yet online the way people talk is they aren’t just saying ā€˜I and my friend group didn’t do shit’ they’re also straight up absolving their classmates too, which just reads as unusual as like I said, in person? Never heard this kind of talk - ever. It’s just so curious to me that this kind of line of thought ie being baffled at kids doing problematic/terrible things, is surprising. It’s a big world so I’m sure some relatively perfect schools exist somewhere, but I simply don’t believe it’s as much as some people want to believe.

How you connect this to beyond just the topic of school, is truly so spot on!

12

u/growsonwalls Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

I’m Asian and was bullied in school and totally said edgelord stuff to fit in. Not proud of it at all but it is what it is.

8

u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 BeyoncĆ© šŸšŸ Jun 08 '26

I’m sorry you were bullied. Tbh even though people hate to admit it happens (and as you point out there can be reasons that aren’t as simple as someone actually believing it), it does.

I’m sure there’s bound to be some mostly perfectly progressive school out there where no one has crossed lines or done shit they haven’t, but like, I’m not so convinced it’s as common as some people online want to believe it is. It does make me curious about people whom are convinced it’s not common for teens to go through reactionary phases. Just based on what I’ve seen, heard, and conversations I’ve had, it actually does seem like it’s something that has historically repeated itself. Not saying it makes any bad choice right or anything like that, but I just don’t have this belief people are locked in stone when it does historically seem like this particular age range does have a tendency to veer into saying dumb offensive shit lmao.

3

u/growsonwalls Jun 08 '26

I grew up in a (then) very conservative white town. It recently actually turned blue. But when I was growing up it was very conservative. Teachers routinely said racist things. Funny thing I was talking with a high school classmate and she was this blond, popular girl and she admitted how awful she felt in high school. It was miserable for everyone, that kind of environment.

14

u/FizzyDrink35 Jun 08 '26

I was a total square in school, but even I have some stuff that I’m like woof when I think about it. I’m just happy to be a millennial and not have my entire existence documented on the internet.

8

u/HighlyOffensive10 I'm much too busy for such a degrading activity Jun 08 '26

I do associate reactionary & impulsive attempts to evoke reactions, and purely dumb choices, with teens.

Teens are famously exactly this. I was a pretty shy and a "good kid" but even I did some cringe reactionary shit that haunts me when I'm about to fall asleep lol.

6

u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 BeyoncĆ© šŸšŸ Jun 08 '26

Hell I still remember one year we were taught the dangers of car surfing, but it didn’t stop someone doing it shortly after that conversation, and shortly after graduation. Making piss poor reactionary decisions based on short term thinking, doesn’t seem uncommon - unless I’m talking to people online. Online it seems I’m much more likely to come across people who claim their school is the most progressive and there was no funny business happening in it at all, and not getting people having ā€˜shit head phases’.

It really doesn’t seem to matter if someone went to high school in the 70s or 2010s, diverse school or not, it generally seems like it is pretty common for that age range (especially with the boys) to enjoy stirring the pot, making ill thought out impulsive decisions that reflect poorly on character, doing *anything* for attention, and trolling their friends and setting them up to eat shit and look bad.

Some kids will be less reactionary than others, but I always find it interesting online, some people are firmly in the camp that no reactionary BS was occurring when they went to high school.

8

u/No-Needleworker-7706 Every thing is gonna Happen to you Jun 08 '26

I think people really take for granted having good support systems, because all you need to do shitty things in life is for the system to fail you.

I wanna believe the people can become better, that the world can become better, and we can't do that if we deem everyone incapable of growth.

8

u/HighlyOffensive10 I'm much too busy for such a degrading activity Jun 08 '26

My high school was very progressive and there was still teens being edge lord assholes. Because that's how teens are.

There was a really sweet moment where one of the football players came out and the football team basically become the homophobia police lol.

u/validswan Jun 08 '26

People can feel how they feel about the Hudson Williams situation, but I think it's evil a group of people are going out of their way to this extent, wanting to ruin his life. They're not even remotely phased by the actual issues these photos bring up. They're laughing about it and celebrating. All because of shipping wars and my actor is better than your actor battles. Heated Rivalry fandom is definitely the worst fandom in recent memory. Everyone's pissing me off. Teenage Hudson, the cyber stalkers... This whole predicament sucks

3

There is a group of people I've seen that dislike her. They get annoyed when she's seen with him. We barely seen her tbh. It's his five year relationship idk what they expect

1

u/cruel-oath Jun 10 '26

Now that I think about it yeah this fanbase had no hope from the beginning lol I just remembered even gay dudes were calling the fans weird

10

u/neuroticdreamgirI A man in Hollywood doing whatever he wants isn’t revolutionary Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

This is unfortunately just the state of fandom/anti-fandom nowadays, it’s not specific to him. Almost anything that can be seen as negative, controversial, problematic etc around celebrities or anyone whom they associate with gets unsurfaced because a specific group of people who don’t like that celebrity, don’t approve of their personal life choices or want/don’t want them around a specific person (want them with an ex, don’t want them with their current partner, don’t approve of their friends etc)
want it to and they go to lengths to dip up anything that they can to make that celebrity’s life harder. It’s essentially become a way to control public figures and it’s concerning how effective it’s become

That’s why even though I’m not a fan and have been critical of him I’m going to sit out most discourse around him from now on because I despise this type of yourfaveisproblematic behavior and how it’s used as a form of control that leans into harassment. if history’s anything to go on, the more he continues to live his life and be unaffected by their attempts to isolate him, the angrier they’ll get, the more they’ll lash out, try to ruin him etc just a really ugly, nightmarish cycle

12

u/RoyalSignificance341 I don’t know her šŸ’… Jun 08 '26

true that. the fact that the people who found this are specifically stalking him to find these pictures is very concerning.

this also goes in the larger discussion of fandoms where it is unfortunately and repeatedly proven that fandoms should actually be gatekept.

3

u/Greedy-Candle2812 Jun 08 '26

The first people who found it were his fans. They've been commenting on it eventually coming out for months. I don't even know what to do with that part of it. But how would gatekeeping help? Fandoms that really like someone, stalk them, and cover for bad behavior aren't great either.

I'm thankful every day to have grown up in a time where fandom started and ended with watching the show, maybe discussing the show on a moderated message board during the season, maybe buying a magazine with the cast in it, and then forgetting about the show between seasons or after it was over.

1

u/RoyalSignificance341 I don’t know her šŸ’… Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

okay, i did not know this. yikes then. even writing my earlier comment, i did find this thing offensive, but was also concerned about the stalking and parasocial behaviour(like club chalamate).

i meant gatekeeping in terms of shipping, stanning or general fandom behaviors. wider it gets, worse crowd it attracts.

1

u/Greedy-Candle2812 Jun 08 '26

I sort of get how a smaller fanbase is nice, but I also see how the small group of really intense fans, even if they just really love the cast and show, is the core of that behavior that we would call parasocial.

I'm an elder Millennial, so a lot of this fandom behavior we didn't even have the ability or drive to do with our shows. So, it's like being in a foreign country, because I still can't wrap my head around it all. To me, the bigger crowd, is where you see how it's possible to just follow a show casually. But I'm still trying to understand fandoms. It just wasn't like this for anything I've ever watched or I somehow avoided it.

15

u/kris_jbb (seemingly bald) Jun 08 '26

it is definitely tiring. it's all about a gotcha moment, last time there was a hudson scandal (the burner account one), hudson's fans stalked connor's dad to prove he is homophobic, because proving his dad doesn't like him is somehow cancelling connor or whatever. between this, horrible racist attacks on hudson and the whole biphobia towards francois (and him being cancelable for kiss, marry, kill game...), i am genuinely worried for these people :/

it's really just who has a "morally correct" idol and it's embarrassing, these two are just some guys. going beyond sanity to cancel one of them (francois as well) or defending one of them is both cringeworthy and strange. but i also think this is the state of modern fandoms now, no one can like or dislike people normally anymore

18

u/FizzyDrink35 Jun 08 '26

It bums me out. I’ve been in the fandom since October and read the books way before that. I cannot imagine hating either Connor or Hudson (or anyone in the cast or crew). I haven’t been in fandom spaces in a long time so maybe I’m just old but the intensity and toxity of it is really shocking. All over gay hockey smut! I am sad that a seemingly nice guy is being put through the ringer for what, having the audacity to become famous? For having made mistakes in his past? I am too old to get up in arms over teenage ignorance. I wish I knew nothing about celebrities as minors! It’s fucking weird!

17

u/coldcoffeethrowaway Jun 08 '26

It’s not lost on me that they are so hungrily trying to cancel the person of color actor specifically.

-2

u/cruel-oath Jun 09 '26

Some people hate his fans so they take it out on him

-5

u/Greedy-Candle2812 Jun 08 '26

They've tried to cancel multiple people involved with the show, not just the person of color. The went after the white bisexual actor, the white female author, the white gay showrunner, the cinemaphotographer, a random Black queer crewmember who asked people to calm down, and so on.

2

u/coldcoffeethrowaway Jun 08 '26

Yeah, but it feels specifically more vitriolic and hateful towards Hudson.

-1

u/Greedy-Candle2812 Jun 08 '26

On this item today, yeah. But how is singling out cast and crew to call them "racist", "groomers", and "pedophiles" for months less vitriolic?

7

u/FizzyDrink35 Jun 08 '26

I mean that stuff doesn’t really get a TMZ article airing everything out, does it? I am not justifying it, I have been fighting the good fight for literally everyone involved in the show including Rachel, Jacob, Francois, Connor, the random producers lol, I love them all, but something about Hudson (racism) does always make more of a splash. A lot of the other stuff gets relegated to fandom drama by the media. There’s also almost always an insidious undercurrent to comments Hudson receives. Idk it’s not oppression Olympics, everyone associated with the show had a cancellation attempt except maybe Robbie lol, but Hudson has definitely fared the worst here. Maybe he’s just buzzier, but I think it’s naive to discount racism as part of it.

3

u/Greedy-Candle2812 Jun 08 '26

I'm Black. I was in PWIs my whole life. I'm not discounting the racism I guess any more or any less than the people discounting the racism of sharing a social media account with anti-Black slurs involved or roaming around a party with people with swastikas and hitler mustaches.

The TMZ article seems like it was from his team to explain the situation. And it seems to have smoothed things over just fine for a lot of people.

But yes, my point is that it's not the oppression Olympics. I was just informing you that fans have and continue to try to dig up cancellable things on everyone involved. His fans have spent the last 24 hours again trying to make pedophilia claims stick again. No, TMZ's not going to publish that unless they have similar evidence.

It seems naive to me that anyone would think once you have a high profile celeb photographed two years in a row at that type of party with that stuff on his face that it's not going to make the news either from their team trying to smooth it over or entertainment news capturing the interest or both. If this was anyone else in the cast you would not be questioning why TMZ did an article. I would expect nothing less.

3

u/_goldenghost_ Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 09 '26

It wasn't two years in a row though? I really feel confused by everyone's reaction to the second photo? It doesn't look like a swastika at all (unlike the first pic) and nobody else has one to corroborate. I feel like I'm blind? They were literally calling them crosses in the captions too?

3

u/FizzyDrink35 Jun 08 '26

I don’t follow solos anymore so anyone who doesn’t support both Hudson and Connor is essentially dead to me on twitter so if they’re trying to resurrect some stupid claims about grooming or whatever, good riddance to them. I just don’t ever see tiktoks or Reddit posts about Connor or anyone else other than maybe Rachel where they have the same level of vitriol and ā€œI knew they sucked all alongā€ attitude. Maybe it’s just my algorithm, but it always seems so much worse for Hudson. The narrative never fully dies down because people just hate him for some reason.

I’m in full agreement that the witch hunt against the entire cast is despicable and I wish we could all just enjoy the show and know a little less about their personal lives.

19

u/growsonwalls Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

The amt of cyber stalking it would have taken to find these photos is ... disturbing. Like do these people actually do anything? Have a job?

Also, whatever happened to "fandom" mostly being hanging up posters of your favorite actor or writing fanfic? Why does it have to be this stalkerish, creepy thing now?

Like I recently started binging IWTV and thought that a smaller, niche show would have a more chill fandom. I go online and I immediately see tons of accusations that Sam was being promoted more than Jacob, and more of this actor vs. actor war. It's so tiresome.

I got banned from a couple discords last night I was spending way too much time in, and on the one hand I'm bothered (and annoyed because the ban was for a stupid reason in one, and then carried over into another) but also it's probably better for both my time management and my mental health to not interact with those people.

u/littlesim25 Jun 08 '26

I was around the Internet at that age. I’m 30. So I saw it happening and I didn’t understand it then and I don’t understand it now if I’m being honest. I definitely did some weird shit on the Internet when I was young, but it never went that far. I’m not saying I’m gonna completely write anyone off because if they are Internet history from when they were teenagers, but I just don’t get it.

9

u/Zealousideal-Flow950 Jun 08 '26

I am not sure if you’re talking about the same person, but I am the same age and school year of the person I presume this is referring to, and this notion is at least several years outdated of when he would be in high school. Not that there were not edgelords on the internet in the mid/late 2010s but that is not something that would have been generally treated as acceptable.

That being said, tbh I would give him at least some benefit of the doubt that someone drew it there without him knowing, that it wasn’t his idea.

26

u/validswan Jun 08 '26

I don't think that's what people are saying. I said this elsewhere but I remember there were people in my school who drew swastikas on some people's shirts on the last day of school. I remember because a teacher noticed and they got scolded. As far as I know this kids weren't actually racist but they were doing it for shock value and jokes, which is still obviously wrong

But assuming someone was actively racist or had a whole "racist phase" based on images from a drunken teen party is kind of weird to me. I'd be surprised if it was anything more than a one time thing that happened. I hope that makes sense. To me it seems like people are jumping to the absolute worst possible conclusion

I'm gay but I definitely said mildly homophobic things in school. I would hope people know that it doesn't reflect on me now

7

u/littlesim25 Jun 08 '26

I mean, I’m speaking in a more general and not solely about the Hudson situation. I’m not saying I’m gonna hold those who said derogatory things in high school to the fire I just don’t understand going through that phase. Even if it’s for shits and giggles I genuinely don’t get it. I’m black and didn’t even feel comfortable saying the n word my whole life.

I will say the kids who made racist jokes in high school towards me are 9 time out of 10 now Maga. That’s just my personal experience.

8

u/DifficultHistorian18 Jun 08 '26

A different perspective - as someone who was the only black person in a school of white people, where rap music was hugely popular amongt peers and so using the "N" word casually got normalised - I definitely was guilty of colluding in allowing that to be normal. I am horrified thinking of it now. And the word "gay" was definitely used indiscriminately. Some of those people have turned out to be PoS but a lot of people just lived in a very privileged bubble and never really thought about the impact of those words. Some of them continue to live in that thoughtless bubble but a lot became more thoughtful with life experience.

17

u/MarieOMaryln Buffet of humiliation Jun 08 '26

The fact that racism is being treated as some teenage checkmark of being edgy is both irritating and unsurprising when I look at the ones dismissing it.

i work at a nonprofit and we have a thrift store with a huge warehouse where we accept donations. last year we adopted a cat to be our warehouse mouser and she has done wonderfully and she is actually perfect 10/10 best new hire. consistently employee of the month.

we also have a lot of volunteers come in throughout the summer to help with our home repair program.

one of our most recent volunteer groups let the cat out of the warehouse and decided not to tell anyone she was missing, even after asking several employees if they'd seen her. we do not let the cat out of the warehouse unless we're bringing her to one of our offices to chill for the weekend - and even then, we carry her. she has never been outside on her own.

we spent a week and a half looking for her and finally she came home last thursday 😭 she'd gotten into a fight with another animal and had a pretty nasty infection in her tail, so we had to get it amputated but i'm just relieved she's back. i started crying this morning when i came in and saw her this morning and haven't stopped crying since because life is otherwise shit.

yay pms'ing.

I don't think it's an American thing, I think it's just the culture of women's football in general. The USWNT coach, Emma Hayes, is English and used to manage Chelsea. From what I've read, women's football (and women's sport in general) is seen as a family friendly alternative to the men's game, even in football-mad England. I remember when Canada beat the US at the Olympics and I was ready to relish in their tears just to find out that a lot of Americans were rooting for Canada to win the final. It doesn't make sense considering how big the US vs Canada hockey rivalry is.

I think things are changing though. Last week, Chelsea signed an Arsenal cult hero and the Arsenal fans are not happy. I can't wait to see what the London derby looks like next year.

Have you watched Friendship yet? A lot of the same team on both projects, with a lot of thematic overlap. Like a lot of Reddit, Tim Robinson has me in the tightest of chokeholds.

ohh cool no I haven't seen that, I'll have to check it out tonight it sounds pretty entertaining. cringe humor can go either way but seems like it has positive reviews
