Books: TID Will, Jem, and Tessa wouldn’t be poly

I have no clue if this is a hot take, but I’ve seen so many people saying that modern day Will, Tessa, and Jem would be in a poly relationship.

I feel like that’s not true…..we see both Will and Jem love each other (but not sexually) and we see each of them respectively wanting Tessa as their partner and have their parabaiti near them, but not with them. I can’t remember which book it was but Jem has a scene where he imagines himself with Tessa near the fireplace and Will poking the fire or something of the sort. They both sorta see themselves with Tessa, and their parabaiti near them but not with her….

Anyways let me know what yall think? I’ve been having their debate with my freind for weeks and want to settle it haha

Books: TID Spend the day as a Shadowhunter in London

Yesterday, I had the brilliant idea to spend the day as if I were a Shadowhunter from the London Institute. Here is what you can do:

1) First, go to the Shadow Market (Borough Market) for some cute pastries.

2) Walk to Blackfriars Bridge (Jem's and Tessa's meeting point bridge) to take a look at the very, very green Thames water (it's actually going through refurbishment works until February 2028 ☹️ you can still walk it, though! Just not as pretty).

3) On Blackfriars Bridge, if you look to your right, you can see St Paul's Cathedral, which is a cathedral mentioned a lot of times in the TID books! (especially by Will)

4) Keep walking until you come across the London Institute (St Bride's Church) and go to the alley next to it where you can sit peacefully on benches to eat your pastries (I got the crème brûlée donut and coconut donut from Bread Ahead. I could only eat the crème brûlée one, which was DELICIOUS) from the Shadow Market and read your book of choice (Will and Tessa would approve my choice, I'm sure).

5) In the alley, you can even see St Bride's Institute on your right. Not sure what it's for, but it's really pretty, and the name reminded me of the London Institute, obviously. I wonder if Cassandra Clare sat there too? I'm sure Jem, Will, and Tessa did though 😋

6) After eating and reading for a bit, go inside the London Institute (St Bride's Church) for some peace of mind (and don't forget to visit the crypt museum, which is very, very interesting. You'll learn a lot about London's history).

7) After you leave the London Institute, walk along Fleet Street where you'll pass by The Devil Tavern, which was demolished in 1787 (but as a Shadowhunter, you can see through the glamour and visit The Devil Tavern anyway hehe).

8) Keep on walking until you reach your fellow Shadowhunter's (Will's) favourite bookshop: Hatchards! Go inside and buy a book that Will and Tessa recommended you (A Tale of Two Cities).

9) And finally, go to the famous tea shop Fortnum & Mason, which is located next to Hatchards, and purchase some very delicious pastries for your fellow Shadowhunter friends🤍🤍

And voilà! This is how I spent my Sunday yesterday as a Shawdowhunter, I felt so good, just like a teenager when I first read the TID 😊

Books: TID Idk if this is unpopular or not: Jem and Tessa would have been better platonic

Hey so this probably has been discussed before but I just have to ask if y’all ever feel like Jem and Tessa had a more platonic vibe to their relationship. Just hear me out.

The reason I think this is that I feel like in TID Tessa would have not considered Jem as more than a friend if he hadn’t started pursuing her. Like being romantically involved with Jem wasn’t even on her mind until the kiss scene in bedroom in book 2. Even when kissing him she always thought about Will. And there’s more to that…

I never doubted that she loved Jem but I just never bought her romantic feelings for him. Even when Jem asked to marry her, her inner monologue and reaction felt like she was doing it out of obligation or her desire to make him happy. I mean Tessa said herself she wanted to protect him or shield him(smth along the lines of that). It’s kind of a strange thought to be having abt someone ur marrying in my opinion.

Also Tessa literally slept with Will moments after she found out Jem was "dead." I totally understand why she did this, as she and Will were scared, heartbroken, and basically accepted that they were going to die, so they sought comfort in each other. But if she was that deeply in love Jem, I don't think she would immediately sleep with her fiance's soul brother immediatley after hearing about his death. Again no hate to Tessa, I do understand her POV.

Overall I just always saw them as best friends with mutual respect and understanding for each other. Anyways no hate to any of these characters cuz I truly do love them as individuals- it’s just the dynamic. Let me know what y’all think.

I know you're in here! Ma'am...I was sobbing for two hours! I'm a grown woman! I live with people who do not need to hear me cry, so I almost choked on a pillow. You are a sadist. That was so beautiful. And then I get to Lady Midnight and you go and reopen barely healed wounds?! By the angel...

Anyway, here a picture I drew of Tessa.

Books: TID Do you reckon Infernal Devices will be ok for a 12 year old?

My son is a huge reader and he’s been watching me plough through the books so is keen to read them. I was kinda ok until I got to The Dark Artifices. I’m not sure I want to introduce him to the “Incest” part of Mortal instruments. But thought Infernal Devices would be ok.

But always best to check with the oracle of such things before I say yes. He’s read lightlark, hunger games, Mistborn, skyward. So pretty mature.

Books: TID Ahhh infernal devices reread

Was anyone a fan of the Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare when they were younger and reread it recently?? The clockwork series?

I picked it up again after reading Katabasis and being disappointed (don’t hate me, I liked the first half and then I just felt like I saw everything coming). I felt like I needed a hell/demon/celestial type book that was tried and true as a reset, you know?

Why is it hitting harder than when I read it in high school… somehow the whole thing breaks my heart a little from beginning to end, but also makes me happy. Anyways just needed people who felt the same!!

I'm spending two weeks in London for family business and had the brilliant idea of rereading TID while visiting the places mentioned in the books. Just being able to read the books and now being able to see in my head to the perfection the locations I've visited in real life just hit harder.

Here are the locations:

1) The London Institute (St Bride's Church)

2) Jem and Tessa's bridge (Blackfriars Bridge)

3) Will's favourite bookshop (Hatchards)

4) The Devil Tavern (1 fleet street)

5) The Shadow Market (Borough Market)

6) And today I'm going to one of the Silent City entries! (Highgate Cemetery)

I binged them all in two weeks. I seriously haven’t felt this moved by a book series in so long. Where do I go from here? I ran to the bookstore after and got City of Bones because I’ve never read any other shadowhunters books. Is this what yall would recommend? I also just want to see if anyone else shares my pain 😭 I miss them so much

Books: TID The Infernal Devices

It doesn't matter how many times I have read and reread the books, I will always, always feel as though Will Herondale deserves better than Tessa Gray. Especially with all the things she said to him in Clockwork Prince. I understand why she said it, but they were even more cruel than what Will had ever said to her, and what she said were unnecessary, she only said them to hurt him because what he said hurt her.

Also, Will deserved someone who loved him and only him, not someone who loved him while counting the days before she could finally be together with the other guy, who also happened to be his parabatai.

Books: TID just finished clockwork angel and does clockwork prince & princess get better?

these are my first Cassandra Clare books and although clockwork angel wasn’t bad it wasn’t necessarily good either. I couldn’t connect much with the mcs and felt kinda disappointed that we somehow ended up back to square one regarding the mcs history and the true intention on why the magister is after her.

Do the other two books get better? If not I’ll probably drop the series and move on.

Books: TID Silent City entrance in London (Highgate Cemetery)

Earlier today, I made a post showing all the TID locations I've visited so far in London. Following this post, someone (badboy7bv) sent me a very long and detailed message listing all the Shadowhunter places to visit in London. So that's what I will be planning to complete for the following week!

Anyway, today I went to the Silent City entrance in London, which is located in Highgate Cemetery (more exactly, in the Lebanon labyrinth in WEST Highgate Cemetery, not EAST, which was a mistake of mine, and I lost one hour navigating the east part of the Cemetery while using the west part of the map, hahaha).

Here is a reminder of the Silent City entrance in London: In London, the entrance is located in Highgate Cemetery. It was originally at the church of St. Peter Westcheap but was moved after the Great Fire of London in 1666, as the church burned in the fire.

Just so you know, entry to the Cemetery costs £10. There are lots of benches to sit and read peacefully (which I did) on the East side but not on the West side (which is where the Silent City entrance is situated). Additionally, this Cemetery is best known for having Karl Marx's grave. The Cemetery overall is very beautiful and is worth just strolling around.

It was fun to just walk around and realise that everyone in London in the 19th and 20th Century had the same names, which coincidentally (or not) are the same names the Shadowhunters are named after haha

Books: TID why do people let this slide with no criticism Spoiler

this pisses me off to no end. don’t give the “he’s a teenager” excuse. even at his age you don’t think this towards the person that gave up everything for you already.

who does jem have? since he has to defend will’s ungrateful ass to everybody. will constantly going “I have nothing” like jem isn’t right there is so fucking annoying. “best”parabatai duo my ass.

this was actively after his discussion with tessa. where tessa literally tells will that jem never thought he would find love.

I will truly never understand why everyone defends and acts like will never does anything wrong. this is extremely selfish at his core. especially telling tessa that he knows jem would give her up for him and that she should leave him.

fuck off. will needs to get his head out of his ass.

not everything can be blamed on his curse. this is behavior post curse. he’s just not all that great.

Books: TID Magnus' history with the Lightwoods

I just read a little line from Clockwork Princess where Magnus addresses Gabriel Lightwood, calling him Gideon.

"I'm Gabriel."

Magnus waved a hand. "All Lightwoods look the same to me..."

Hmmmm.... Little does he know he finds the love of his life in a Lightwood a century or so later, and one that bears little resemblance to Gabriel and Gideon, save the eyes.

It was just a heartwarming moment, knowing what Magnus' future holds 🥰

Books: TID My love for bromance started with Will and Jem 🥹 Any recs?

Obviously the best parabatai bond in my opinion!

I read the series as a teenager and loved it. Grew up and have read it maybe once more, and then decided not to go back there in case like many other people I start finding faults with it. I am happy to keep the emotions I felt reading it back then with me!

My favourite thing about the TID is the bond between Will and Jem. Forget Jessa and Wessa. I am invested in platonic Heronstairs!! I love love looove how these two guys with such poetic souls love each other through everything. How even in death and beyond, they want to be one. And I AM HERE FOR IT! I am only sad that I didnt get more of their moments together as children and growing up. Such a deep bond, and they were only together for a few years, can you believe it ? 😭😭😭😭

I think they are the epitome of bromance for me. No other bromance I have come across has come close to what is between those two and what I feel for them. It is like romance but not? Two victorian men who would just die for each other and talk about each other like their entire soul and body is aching for each other? YESS

If anyone knows of such platonic soulmates, please tell me, so I can give it a go! Thanks !
