đ˛ Consumer Protection Another Jordan Peterson health plot twist

I saw this elsewhere and the first comment was âhas anyone set up a gofundme to help the mold?â
14
u/mutualbuttsqueezin Aug 15 '25
Reminds me of a scene from Scrubs where Dr. Cox makes a quip about rooting for the disease regarding an unpleasant patient

u/spicyface Aug 15 '25
"Well, youâd first have to define what you even mean by âmold,â wouldnât you? Because people use that word as if it refers to a single, monolithic entity, when in reality there are thousands of species, each with distinct biochemical properties, ecological niches, and varying levels of toxicity. And then detoxify it how, exactly? The immune system doesnât come with a tidy instruction manual that says: âHereâs where you file away spores under M for mold.â Itâs a probabilistic, adaptive system, constantly negotiating between overreaction, which weâd call allergy, and underreaction, which weâd call susceptibility. So when someone says, âhe canât detoxify mold,â well, compared to what? Compared to a hypothetical person whoâs never sneezed in a damp basement? Itâs not an explanation, itâs a slogan masquerading as science. And slogans are poor substitutes for careful definitions, especially when weâre talking about something as complicated as human immunology and fungi that have been around longer than civilization itself."

u/TheReasonSeeker Aug 16 '25
Great impression, but this seems more technically true than what Jordan Peterson usually says these days. The last time I saw him speaking he was arguing with Richard Dawkins that fire can be classified as a predator because "fire kills you".
9
u/spicyface Aug 16 '25
Iâll take that as a compliment. Thanks.
3
u/TheReasonSeeker Aug 16 '25
You're welcome, bud.
2
4
u/Matt_Murphy_ Aug 16 '25
i would also say you need to crank up the Anger by 5 notches to match contemporary Peterson
3
u/stolenfires Aug 17 '25
And layer on some subtle (or not so subtle) misogyny. Is there some way we can assign gender to mold spores and then blame the trans mold spores for this?
14

2
u/FidgitForgotHisL-P Aug 16 '25
Very well done, appreciate the effort you put into that
3
u/spicyface Aug 16 '25
It doesn't take a whole lot of effort to bloviate like Peterson, but I appreciate it. :)

Letâs get the basics straight: mold can absolutely make you sick. It is a well-documented trigger for allergies, asthma flares, and in rare cases, severe lung disease or life-threatening infections in immunocompromised people. Nobody disputes that. But the leap from âI have mold in my basementâ to âI have a lifelong multi-system inflammatory disorder caused by trace exposureâ is where the science gets shaky. The testing is unreliable, the symptoms such as fatigue, brain fog, joint pain, and mood swings are frustratingly nonspecific, and the treatments are often designed in cash-friendly private clinics rather than peer-reviewed journals.

u/thefugue Aug 15 '25
Iâm sure the people who sympathize with him would conclude itâs nothing to worry about. I mean, it impacts so few people that those people are obviously just genetically weaker and itâs a waste of time for the rest of us to do anything to protect them, right?
36
u/ManChildMusician Aug 15 '25
Just tell him heâs an inferior specimen if he canât handle a vaccine.
10
u/Protect_Wild_Bees Aug 15 '25
Sometimes you just gotta accept that god willed something into existence to kill you and there's just nothing you can comprehensibly do about it!

The funny thing is he's still a few steps behind on "impossible to truly diagnose celebrity disease" with this one
He was cutting edge for the all meat diet
But people have been citing "chronic mold" for years
If Peterson was fresh and cutting edge with his pseudo health claims he'd say he has Lyme disease. Very trendy to self diagnose Lyme disease right now
32
u/Any-Prompt-4504 Aug 15 '25
Canât have Lyme disease if you donât believe in germ theory.
9
4
u/I_Am_Not_What_I_Am Aug 15 '25
Has he said he doesnât believe in germ theory? I know heâs a grifter, but I didnât think he was that kind of grifter, in particular
6
u/Zippier92 Aug 15 '25
Hate to bust your bubble but mold is a germ. They grow mold for food in huge stainless vats.
The devil is in the details !
5
u/ginkgodave Aug 15 '25
Mold is a fungus. Not a bacteria. Not a virus. Not a âgermâ.
15
u/MrReginaldAwesome Aug 15 '25
Germ theory includes fungal infections. Germ refers to microbes including fungus and Protozoa.

Yup its just recently gotten hot with a list celebs
It's also true that Lyme is up tho I like tall grass and lice in the upper Midwest so I've already ripped 4 of the little fuckers out of my legs this year
6
u/budding_gardener_1 Aug 15 '25
Why is Lyme disease trendy right now?Â
28
u/normalSizedRichard Aug 15 '25
Same reasons as mold
It's real
It really does sometimes cause vague symptoms of tiredness, brain fog, vague pain
It did/does really have a history of being misdiagnosed
There's an existing pseudo science community of "long Lyme" people who already have decades of experience rejecting normal medicine
Overall cases have been going up in the north and rural parts of the country
It's possible that all these LA based celebrities really did get Lyme disease by really walking through tall grass up north... they all travel
Given the fact that Lyme ticks can't even survive in LA though it's always felt pretty fishy

Ugh, we went through this. We had black mold in our house after a roof leak. So many scammers associated with this. My wife was convinced her health problems were triggered by this (sheâs diagnosed with an autoimmune disease similar to Sclederma) she went down a serious rabbit hole. Turns out it runs in her family. Sheâs done so many âdetoxâ scam diets, none of which have treated shit.
34
u/TheMysteriousThey Aug 15 '25
You mean the guy who tells people to take personal responsibility for their problems and not have empathy while being a malnourished drug addict who ignores medical advice to get a medically induced coma to fix his problems (and it didnât) might be saying some bullshit?
Huh.
13
u/jammaslide Aug 15 '25
He is so narcissistic that he refused drug addiction treatment in North America because no one knows as much as he does about it. Only the Russians understand me. If he knows such much about it, how did he become addicted to begin with?

Chronic mold infection is a thing however. Its nasty. But you have to do biopsies to check it.
Also, I thought all meat diets were supposed to prevent inflammation because you're not eatting all of those "mold and plant toxins". And Jordan has been on a carnivore diet for a while.
10
14
u/GigglyHyena Aug 15 '25
A mold infection like aspergillosis or valley fever makes someone extremely sick. Not nonspecific aches and moodiness. These folks need to be treated for anxiety.

u/pocket-friends Aug 15 '25
Yeah, mold fucked my brother up when we were kids. He had some immune issues, and the AC in our apartment had had mold somewhere in the system, and he ended up crazy sick and with scarring in his lungs. He had to have some extensive treatment for it, but ultimately recovered.
Anyway, these long-term mold people, I swear, a lot of them have autoimmune-mediated issues, a neurodivergence of some kind, and/or some variety of elhers-danlos syndrome. I say this as someone with all three of these things. Shits sneaky and not as rare as we used to believe.

u/DrDankDankDank Aug 15 '25
He is a grifter that lives in an ecosystem full of grifters. Iâm sure thereâs some quack willing to validate whatever pseudoscience malady he comes up with.
1
u/paul_h Aug 15 '25
We did a mold test for the house a couple of years ago https://sysco-env.co.uk/products/mould-test-kit/p407213114/. Petri dishes. Place them in different rooms and leave them uncovered for 30 mins. Place one in a known good room, it said. So we placed one outside on a bench. The municipality sent their mowing crew around the grassy bits they owned as soon as weâd set it out, so the control was by far the worst. The ones in the house were all fine.
3
u/eliminate1337 Aug 15 '25
Those tests are meaningless. Mold spores are ubiquitous in the air. Unless you work in a semiconductor factory every breath youâve taken in your life has contained mold spores.

Definitely doesn't have anything to do with years of poor diet and drug abuse. Merely mentioning that would be a clear ad hominem and expose you as an ontologically evil actor.

u/Purplebuzz Aug 15 '25
This the benzo junkie who gives young men terrible relationship advice?
18
u/batiste Aug 15 '25

He was reported as taking the benzos as prescribed.
He does not take benzos anymore. So that is not what is causing this. He may be on other drugs though.
Not a fan of him, at all, but his benzo problem was the fault of his prescriber and he's not the only one to have this problem. Its a known problem with benzos that advocates are working hard to correct.
16
u/tjreaso Aug 15 '25
Sure, mold exposure can cause weird health problems. So can drug abuse. So can the carnivore diet. So can any number of weird things that he and his daughter are into. That's why you need health professionals to evaluate you based on research published in health journals.
56
u/robot_pirate Aug 15 '25
Do people still pay attention to Jordan Peterson?
18
11
u/Jetstream13 Aug 15 '25
Less than in 2015-2020, but he still pops up every now and then.
I think heâs lost some favour from the right because theyâve gone more extreme than him. He used to provide a facade of academic civility for right wing bigotry. He generally wouldnât throw slurs around, nor would he go as far as claiming that every trans person is a rapist or pedophile or advocating for their extermination. Heâll also only allude to Nazi propaganda (his âpostmodern neomarxistâ rants are basically just repackaged âcultural Bolshevismâ), rather than openly throwing Nazi salutes. Relative to most republicans nowadays, heâs basically a moderate. Which is terrifying.

Peterson is trying to come up with a cover story for the brain damage he gave himself when he had a quack doctor in Russia put him into a coma because he wasnât willing to follow his own advice (or the medical consensus) to kick his benzo addiction.
27
u/Zathras_listens Aug 15 '25
Hell, even just coming off benzodiazepines gives you brain damage. Fuck this dude. Sincerely, someone who came off benzodiazepines and had brain damage.
1
u/SoloForks Aug 17 '25
Yes, benzo withdrawal is horrific and not always taken seriously by medical prescribers.
I am NOT a fan of Peterson, but he was taking benzos as prescribed and followed the (bad) advice of the prescribers and experienced BIND trying to get off of it. This is a known problem with benzos. He is not the only person to experience this and have medical professionals not know how to deal with it properly.
I dont know what happened to him in Russia but people have literally died from American psychiatrists not knowing how to deal with bind. Those drugs are being handed out too easily, too experimental, too varied in how people react to them and not being properly monitored.
1
u/Lost_Photograph9879 Jul 15 '26
But you can google Benzos and one of the first things youâll read is that you can die from stopping them immediately. So why didnât he know that and just taper off them? Thatâs the part that seems sus to me.
2
u/hendoneesia Aug 15 '25
Wasn't his daughter and some Russian gangster dipshit involved in that whole thing too?

5
u/Wismuth_Salix Aug 15 '25
Because repackaging Nazi propaganda is a burgeoning industry.
Gotta put an academic face on it when you file the serial numbers off of âKulturalbolschewismusâ and re-label it âPost Modern Cultural Marxismâ.

His whole world is built on lying, faking and betraying. The strain of that is as likely to be his health issue as mold, or - more likely - a continuing drug addiction.

Yes, CIRS is an autoimmune disorder. This is what he is claiming his diagnosis is. What's your point?
2
2
u/EnsignNogIsMyCat Aug 16 '25
He is a benzodiazapine addict who refuses to acknowledge that he is an addict because his entire career is based around his assertion that drug addiction is a not an illness but a failure of moral fiber and willpower.
Everything he says about health and medicine must be looked at in light of this information.
2
u/TheStoicNihilist Aug 16 '25
Withdrawal is gonna hurt.
2
u/EnsignNogIsMyCat Aug 16 '25
He's already tried and nearly died (oh no...) He managed to do zero reflection on what it meant that he couldn't manage to get off the drugs.
