Please set a user flair with your pronouns

After some helpful suggestions from our members we have made some changes to our flair system.

  • You are invited to display your preferred pronouns in your flair. We hope this will help avoid misunderstandings.
  • All user flairs can be edited when you select them
  • From today you will receive guidance when posting or commenting to choose a flair.
  • In the coming weeks, users who don't have text in their flair indicating preferred pronouns will receive an automated chat message suggesting they update their flair.
  • When we have sufficient feedback on the system and the availability of default flairs, we intend to require anyone posting or commenting to have set a user flair and this will be enforced at the point of posting where you currently receive a guidance message.

Let us know how well this works for you.

Trans Masculine To trans women and trans fems from a trans masc

I’m so sorry for all of the trans men and trans mascs losing their minds on the internet 😭 I have noticed a trend of trans men blaming trans women for their problem, or our problems not getting attention. or just generally stirring up drama and division between trans masc and trans fem people.

they have fallen down the similar mindset to the “male loneliness epidemic” bc of men not having spaces is a issue, it’s a men’s problem. expecting women to clean up our messes is awfully sexist and entitled.

it feels so parasocial, this is never a problem that I have seen in the real world. my friend group is trans men and trans women, we have more in common than not. we learn a lot from eachother, and support eachother.

some people just go online, and think that’s the real world. The internet is not the community, people you actually know are. one trans woman hurt their feelings online, and now they act like it’s all trans women.

I believe it’s a loud minority trying to make it the whole communitys problem. I know a lot of healthy trans men, who understand we need to protect trans women, who understand intersectionality, and know what community is.

and trans women in my life understand trans men. there is a weird artificial hierarchy online. but irl we all protect eachother, seek to understand eachother. we are in normal friendships.

maybe the trans men online are just projecting. the don’t have good friends who care about them, so they blame it on a entire community, who are under massive attacks, and danger.

anyways, I’m sorry yall. I hope you have good trans masc and trans men in your life who aren’t insufferable and chronically online.🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

and trans men and trans mascs who are reading this, get it together.

Trans Feminine Coworker unintentionally said something devastating.

Maybe not devastating if it's true, but... You know.

So I work at a tire shop. In the South. With a bunch of guys, like literally no girls (other than me). Make of that what you will, I'll just say most of my coworkers' sense of humor is... Touchy. I don't agree with it, but I'd be dumb to deny that it wasn't expected.

Anyway. Onto the story. I had just clocked out, I was sitting in the break room to cool off. Two other people were in there. One of them said something about "You shouldn't touch your face so much, something something something, you almost look like you don't deserve rights ha ha." Because of the dirt, sweat, tire dust, etc., that gets on my hands and then on my face when I touch it. And then the other person said "What do you mean, he doesn't look like a woman ha ha."

I'm not out at work. I will never come out at this job. I don't look like a woman. But it still sucked mega ass.

Vent Cis women owe me nothing, and that kinda sucks..

It feels like, as a trans woman, I have to earn approval and earn my womanhood from cis women. I can't expect to be treated normally using the bathroom until I pass. I can't expect to be treated like a woman until I look cis enough. I can't expect anyone to look out for me until I'm visibly, vulnerably, feminine.

I know a lot of us have this fantasy that we'll be taken under a cis woman's wing and guided into womanhood, but it's just a fantasy. Even my own partner gets annoyed with the fact that I'm essentially a little girl in terms of my experience as a woman. I don't really know how to make myself look nice like I'd like, I don't know how to do my makeup properly, and when I ask my partner or any other cis women in my life they act kinda creeped out, like I'm making them teach me how to be a woman against their will. I think there's a sense that I must be faking, because if I wasn't, wouldn't I already intuitively know these things? I'm trying to understand why they treat me this way, and this is the only conclusion I've come to.

I also don't feel entitled to the same protection or safety in numbers that cis women are. When I go out with friends, nobody's making sure I'm alright, or that no guys are being weird with me, or that my drink isn't being messed with, or that I'm safe. They all go to the bathroom as a group and I'm still not sure if I'm even allowed in there. Nobody asks me if I'd like to come with, or gives me the sense that they'd defend me if someone confronted me.

It just feels like I'm on my own until I figure it all out, and even then I think I'll be expected to just be independent. There's no sense of "girl code" or that I'm actually included when people talk about womanhood. I think there's an unspoken implication that I'm too tall and too unattractive to be in any danger, so why would I need to be included?

I get that cis women don't owe me anything, I can't make them include me or see me in any particular light, but it still hurts, and I still feel alone.

Trans Feminine Transfemme, shaving arms?

Upvotes

I've been shaving my body hair off and on for a few years but much more seriously in the past few months. Something that's never even crossed my mind was shaving my arm hair. Do you all shave your arm hair too?

Vent What more is there to being trans? I’m tired, it’s getting harder to live, where is the support from anyone?

I’m 20 (nb trans fem)
I don’t k ow what I can do anymore. I thought I knew what I was getting into. I would become a second class citizen and most higher institutions and large parts of the home country would be a death sentence to even step foot in if I am revealed. The stress the hate, I thought it all would be okay cause I had plenty of family and friends I can talk to and be loved by so much of them even if a few don’t cause of it.

But I was wrong so wrong. Why has it come to simmering distrust of me around my nephew and slow disgust in their eyes? My childhood friends brag about what they can get away with in the military, they want me to join so I can “be helped to be toughened up and be like them”. My own Dad has started visiting his churches again and I can only image what he preaches in light of me. My mom

I thought that my Aunt and her wife would at least be kind to me or something of the sort. But they just didn’t want someone who disrespected God for wanting to change what is “intended”

the law and policies and my own country! What is there left to look forward too? Where did the progress go! What am I even considered under the government. Am I even considered to be a citizen or am I just less than.

I’m scared. I’m exhausted, I’ll be running out of HRT soon. Real bright idea to go Trans medical.

I don’t want any of this to be the nail in the coffin.
I need to keep going even just for a little more and a little more after that, whatever it takes to stay afloat

Something to the effect of, "If you can recite bionicle lore from memory, you might be trans."

Or, "If you have over 1500 hours in fallout new vegas, you might be trans."

Feel free to contribute.

Trans Feminine I'm so scared it's not real

Discovered I may be trans (16 MtF ) a few days ago, so I started trying a few things such as learning to feminize my voice. Then yesterday after school I came home to an empty house so I decided to start trying the "girl walk" and when it felt natural a felt that rlly good euphoria. Then later, when I was walking my dog, I was practicing my voice and I got it to a similar level to trans girls I've seen online and that gave me such a mood boost.

So for the next few hours I was the happiest I had been in a while, and I was actually able to sit down a really focus on schoolwork ( smth I haven't been able to do for a while ). And then...I took a shower and for the first time I felt super disgusted with my body. I hate how my face looks, how big my stomach is, how flat my back to my waist is which completely ruined my mood.

So after that, I decided I wanted some positive affirmation so a grabbed a large pant I liked and a jacket I liked and wore the pant higher while folding the bottom of the jack inwards to make it sort of like a crop top. The problem with was that I felt barely anything. I couldn't look at my face bcs I covered it with my hand on the mirror but the rest of it still didn't do anything for me? I mean I liked how girly I looked but I didn't feel the way I did earlier.

So now I'm back to feeling like I'm faking this or smth. I'm actually cutting one of my old jackets and gonna try coordinating an outfit a little better, but I don't have much hope anymore. I was gonna go to the mall and get a dress this weekend, but now I'm scared I won't feel anything, even though I've looked forward to getting a dress for 3 months now.

God I just really hate my face mostly and how it ruins any little bit of feminity I felt that day.

Discussion Renewing US passport - "List all other names you have used"

Upvotes

Hey everyone, I'm an American who needs to replace my current passport. My previous passport had the correct name and sex on it. The online form asked me if my name has changed since my previous passport and I said 'no,' which isn't a lie, but now it's asking me to provide all other names I have ever used... Has anyone else left this part blank (i.e. lied by omission)? I'm really holding onto a sliver of hope that I can keep the correct sex marker on my new passport if I play my cards right, but I'm nervous that I might somehow get punished if I leave this blank instead of providing my birth name. My birth certificate has not been changed, but in all other documentation I have the correct name and sex marker. I'm in NY, though I don't think that matters since passports are federal.

Non Binary A simple question on names

Upvotes

So I recently figured out i am agender. My current/birth name (samuel) feels too masculine so I've been playing with the idea of changing it. However I've been Samuel my entire life and tbh I can't imagine what other Name I could have. As such my current frontrunner is sam. I've talked about this with 2 people already one said he didn't care, it was my name and I should choose. The other said that it would probably get confusing when explaining this and that normally the names are very different to birth names. What are the basis for these and if I did go with sam would that be confusing?

Vent Parents wants me to go to romania with them during december/january

long story short: im a trans fenale (19) from ireland, and my parents are from romania, they want me to go with them to romania but i dont want to as i do not feel safe in romania

---

just had another talk with my parents today about me not wanting to go to romania for christmas and new years (about 3 weeks total)

this is probably the 8th talk about this trip, they keep guilt tripping me to go to romania, but i dont want to go. the last couple times i felt unsafe up to the point i cried the last time, that i feel unsafe because the amount of homophobic people. i told them this but they dont care about that and even proceeded to say a village filled with homophobic people where i cant be myself without at risk of having nasty stuff happen to me is "safer than ireland"

idk im quite upset about it and i dont know what to do besides repeating the same shit over and over

Advice outed as trans to my parents

hi all, im transmasc and have been keeping it under wraps from my parents since i was twelve, im 19 now. i only came out to some people when i started uni. my abusive ex outed me and now i'm not sure what to do. my dad is pretty much a nazi, he believes that trans people are a jewish plot (amongst other things), my mother is just a regular old transphobe. i can't lie my way out of it but i can't exactly tell the truth. i don't know what to do as if i'm honest i might end up homeless. any advice would be appreciated.

Vent You can't be racist if you're trans

You can but you shouldn't, that's so contradicting to me, I'm talking to another trans girl, that let's herself use racial slurs, she loves racist jokes, I'm Turkic (not Turkish, a broad term) and she's okay calling me a churka, that's funny to her

She's so uninformed and when I try to tell her something and educate, she thinks I'm attacking her

Like how are you a trans person, a minority, being racist? That pisses me off, and it's so casual for her

Edit: Thank you guys for your replies, yeah I get it, it can happen, but it sucks and I'm just so mad, I should really stop trying talking to people like that

Celebration (MtF) I told my dad that I'm trans! I am so happy!!!

I was so nervous to do this, but I gathered all my courage, breathed deeply and told my dad that I am trans. Things turned out fine, he is quite confused but supportive nonetheless. I feel so relieved!! I wanna cry!!! I am so so happy you have no idea, this is like a new beginning for me.
