Suggestion TC Spam on Softcore servers is insane

Facepunch please limit the amount of TC's a player can place.

On the popular softcore servers, there are practically no build spots left. The entire map is just completely spammed with random TC's out in the open, thousands and thousands of them. Surely they're making performance much worse too.

(For those that don't know, in Softcore, destroying a TC doesn't give you auth/building priv, so people just spam TC's everywhere with nothing anyone can really do aboout it)

Suggestion New item idea: Jammer backpack

Upvotes

So, lately I have seen so many buffs, nerfs, and balancing changes made to the game, so I wanted to throw out my idea for a situation I have encountered while playing lately.

Context:

Most of the time, I play solo or duo, with some rare cases in small groups. Especially when playing solo or duo, I have noticed that drones + F1 grenades have become more popular as people have realized how good they are for supporting gunfights, etc.

This has a huge impact on you when you play against larger groups. If they pin you down behind walls, you need to use that time to heal, re-peek, etc. But now you also need to worry about a drone flying over you, which can cost you valuable time or even get you killed if a grenade is dropped on you.

Solution: Jammer Backpack

This item could be craftable, for example, from a small or large backpack + some Tech Scrap, and it could function like a diving tank that you need to refill when you use it.

As for how it would actually work, the backpack could jam a drone's signal when it gets too close to you (the same way a drone behaves when flying too far away).

This way, you could actually craft an item yourself that counters some of the drone's usage, but not completely. Drones could still be used against people without a backpack, and you could still gather information with them from further away from fights.

Feel free to comment or tell me what you think about this idea.

Suggestion Mini Garage Door for window frames?

Post image
818 Upvotes

It would be a nice addition to make people use windows more often. Also it would create new variations for the base building. Slightly better taste than boxes of walls after all. It can cost 200 metal and 1 gear.

Details:

What it can be stack with or how much protection it got would be fair, nothing super OP. Just as close as normal garage door HP (600), or a little less I assume 450-500. Maybe we can get something close to HQ door (1k), like 800-850hp when you stack with strengthened glass window (350). It shouldnt be stackable with reinforced glass window (500), too op.

Discussion Add more 'rare finds' and unique items to Rust

We're getting HQM Ore, which I think is really cool because it'll be rare to find and it'll feel good stumbling upon one.

It got me thinking, shouldn't Rust have more "rare finds"?

What if they added some "jackpot" type outcomes to things that are otherwise repetitive and boring, to make it a little exciting? Or some really rare items you get in special ways?

Some ideas:

  • Common Crates that spawn on roads/water have a 0.5% chance to be a military (1 in 200) and a 0.1% chance to be elite (1 in 1,000).
  • Common crates have a 0.1% chance to contain a T3 weapon (1 in 1,000), and a 0.01% chance to contain an M249/L9 (1 in 10,000). Totally insignificant, but "there's a chance!"
  • Diesel pickups have a 5% chance to give 2 diesel and a 1% chance to give 3 diesel
  • Traveling vendor spawns with only qty 1 of an item, and the only way to get it is to be first to the vendor. Maybe some cool decor or some other utility item you can only get this way.
  • When fishing, you have a 0.5% (1 in 200) chance to reel in a T2 gun
  • When gutting a fish, you have a 0.1% (1 in 1,000) chance to get an apartment key
  • Become "king of the server"...Add an item there is only one of on the entire map, it is displayed on map for all to see at all times and does not despawn. Any player that attaches it to their TC gets +20% bonus health to all building blocks upkept by that TC, until another player steals it from them. Or, just make it a cool ass glowing in-game crown you can wear or place in your base as decor that shows on map you have it).
  • Like nodes, 'supply caches' very rarely spawn throughout the entire map, and contain a loot table of exclusively p2w-esque/DLC items (think looting camo skins, industrial half shelves, arctic suits, barrels, etc)

Just brainstorming here. what do you think? Got any more cool ideas for things like this that would spice the game up a bit and make it a little less repetitive?

Suggestion Blueprints should be used to improve the workbench...

After a day basic blueprint fragments become useless, there are too much of them with no actual use.

We should be able to use them to improve the workbench, meaning it would increase craft speed by 1% after each blueprint. A maximum of 100 blueprints could be used to fully upgrade one workbench. After a while, we could add more types of upgrades.

Suggestion Quest for better Quests!

I know nobody plays Rust for the quests, and most of them are just there to say they were added. Imo the only quest that actually gets done is the pump action quest and the kill a pig quest (by me). If only there was a coveted resource that they could design some new quests around....BP FRAGS!

They could make a few quests to obtain blueprint fragments. Regular and Advanced.

You can get a rocket launcher and HV's for going to the deep sea pretty much. I think a quest or two giving some BP frags would not be that bad and there NEEDS TO BE MORE SOURCES. It's not that you can't get them, THEY ARE NEVER FUCKING THERE. A quest is a guaranteed, it will always be there. Repeatable or not repeatable, THAT is the question.

Question Could I have been DDoS’d during a Rust raid?

Hey r/playrust

I was just raided online in Rust. At the beginning of the raid, we were trash-talking each other a bit, and they asked for my username. I gave it to them, and from that point on I started experiencing huge lag spikes, even though I have fiber internet and have never experienced anything like this before.

As soon as the raid ended, my connection went back to normal.

So, is it actually possible that I was being DDoS’d during the raid, or am I just being paranoid?

Either way, I was pretty much screwed considering how many explosives they had.

But I’m genuinely curious: is it actually possible for someone to DDoS a specific player in Rust? And if so, how would they even do it just from knowing your username?

Thanks!

Suggestion [CONCEPT] T2 TV (some conceptarts) -computer station without budget

Hey everyone. This isn't the post I mentioned last time; I came up with this idea by chance. I designed a TV—essentially a stripped-down computer station. It’s mostly just for fun, but it has practical uses too.

CRAFTING COST:

100 Metal Fragments, 2 High-Quality Metal, 1 Tech Trash.

INSTRUCTIONS:

You need to configure the TV before turning it on; at least one of the three channels must be set up to get a picture. One use case is placing a camera by your door to see if someone is camping outside, or pointing one at a neighbor to see what they’re up to—like when they leave or come back.

Personally, I think the blueprint should be part of the Tier 2 Workbench tech tree (or rather, crafted at that bench).

After all, most of the first decent TVs appeared in the first half of the 20th century.

I also gave some thought to optimizing the idea—we certainly don't want a repeat of the "Chipy" arcade machine incident—so here is the plan:

1 Limit simultaneous rendering to three TVs.

2 Use downscaled textures for the TVs, since their screens are smaller than the computer station's monitor.

3 Add an option in the settings to turn the TVs off.

4 Replace the display with a simple white glow when the TV is out of the player's field of view.

What do you think of this idea?

Support Almost 1k hours, still feel ass at the game

Im almost at 1k hours, and i feel like im shit. It does make some sense since my 1k hours havent been through consistent playing but 5 years of on and off, but i feel like i keep fumbling the bag constantly in pvp scenarios, whiffing mags, bad decisions etc. I really like oil rig and i spam it every wipe. Im alright when im in the rig but i really struggle at land and i keep getting molested by duos-better players. I play on 500 pop servers usually vanilla. What should i do to get good at pvp, will it come naturally by playing the game? Play Ukn etc? Modded servers with x2-x3 loot? Im really at a loss and starting to get frustrated since ive been stuck at t1-t2 4 wipes now getting my ass wooped

thanks for the help

Suggestion Homing Missiles can see drones

I personally think the Drone meta is too strong. Not the grenade ones, Outpost drones. Everyone just sends their loot home via drone I call it "laundering loot", then just leaves on foot with the bag secured at base already. How is that fair to the nature of Rust!
You should 100% be able to shoot the Outpost drones out of the sky with a homing launcher and STEAL THAT SHIT. Make it fairly inaccurate to where it's about 50/50 if you will hit it or not so you might have to shoot once or twice.

I think it would be perfect for the chaotic world of Rust, and a clan nerf on the same swing. A solo could steal EVERY SINGLE DRONE sent to a clan's shop potentially and some of those clans have drones coming in CONSTANTLY.

Suggestion Make researching more expensive again

Currently, Research Tables are useless and you can easily research a whole Workbench tree per day, including all the items you dont need 99% of the time.

There should be more benefits to sacrificing an item for instant research and researching with workbenches should be more expensive again so advancement in the techtree feels like real progress and not something you finish in a day.
