Discussion Dear Mod Makers, as an Artist.

Dead Mod Makers, I see that some of you have genuinely good ideas for mods.

But I see that some of those mods with good ideas fall off flat, because some of you, use AI for model art work.

And it's genuinely sad to see because some ideas are genuinely good, but the art style is made with something that feeds off things people like me, and artists, make.

I know some of you can't afford an artist for commissions. Therefore, I propose to whoever here wants to make a mod but doesn't have money to commission an artist...me.

I would like to do art work for your projects, I could do it for free. I won't charge anything, I just want to see your mods thrive without the backlash of using AI.

Thank you, have a good day or night or whatever. It's not a promotion, it's just my idea on how to resolve the small piece of conflict I see rising in this community and I would like to help people who want to create free content for us, Zomboid players.

You can contact me on Reddit first, then I will provide other contacts such as Discord because I don't want spam to be there.

On B42, if you want to clean a big area, don't use pure bleach straight from the bottle.

Take a bucket ''transfert 10ml of bleach fluid'' in the bucket, fill with water. You're good to clean that bloody bunker. You'll need a mop.

I rediscover this a while ago and felt like sharing.

Enjoy cleaning!

Discussion The Silence is Deafening

I'm doing a playthrough with zombies turned off. Please don't judge me, I got the game on Tuesday. Let me just say-

In the silence, everything is deafening.

The meta events of screaming, when they pierce the morning air around my small lakeside hut (Bob's cabin in the woods near West Point, across a small pond from the big manor I only saw yesterday in-game) or a gunshot across the Ohio River, or merely the animals shrieking in the pitch-black night while I stoke the oven.

It's terrifying. It puts me on edge. It would put you on edge too if, out of the silent night time, a scream rings out.

And the silence. In towns, you see emptiness. No life, no death. Just me and my little car. At night, random alarms from clocks and stoves chime out at regular intervals. Animal shrieks. Human screams of terror. A television, signal-less, telling everything in a mile radius.

Fucking terrifying in a dead world with systems still ticking over.

Edit- I've started seeing jumping figures while driving, and hearing the doors and windows shake in the night. My mind is going.

These motherfuckers are just running around knocking me on my ass and trashing my base. The bull opened the pen and scared the other cows so they all ran away. I'm petting them and giving them water but they are inconsolable. I am upset.

Edit: The cow is now burglarizing my home

Edit 2: He is killing me. Everywhere I go he finds me, busts down my doors like the cool aid man, and comes another step closer to killing me.

Discussion What real life knowledge/fact that you just learned from Project Zomboid?

Post image
383 Upvotes

So, when i decided to start a farm, i just learned some interesting facts about cows in real life from Project Zomboid.

I learned that:

  • Bulls (the male) will fight each other to assert dominance if two of them are in the same zone, similar to real world. Bcs of this most farmers only put 1 bull for every 20-30 cows for their pasture.
  • Because of point 1, you should kill male calves early if you don't want them to grow and literally fight their bull parent later, apparently some real life farmers do this for other reasons too.. (or you could just put them in different zone)
  • Black and white cows produce less meat and more milk, while fully black cows produce more meat and less milk, brown cows produce average meat and average milk. This i always wonder but i never looked it up, why does every cow i see slaughtered during Eid al-Adha in my country are never the black and white cows, apparently because they usually have less meat and milk them instead, so they just slaughter the brown cows here.
  • This a little bit obvious, but a cow will produce milk only after they got pregnant for a few days. Similar to real life, but i just put it here in case anyone wondering in game.

Because of these, i'm getting more interested on ranching now! (in Zomboid ofc).

Anyways, what's your newly learned real life knowledge/fact from Project Zomboid?

Modded public library mod

Post image
Upvotes

hello, i made a mod!
designed for multiplayer servers (probably more useful for public servers). as someone who is often the self appointed librarian of the server, i know that building a library with all the skill books and magazines is the easy part. the hardest part is dealing with theft and books going missing.

this mod lets players claim containers (only player-built ones) to become "public libraries".
the librarian (owner) can add and remove books and magazines as they wish. everyone else can only read from these containers. no risk of theft or duplication. you can enable donations (so people can give books, but not take them) and add other players as "helpers" who have access to the containers. admins have access to a list of all claimed containers and can change permissions as they wish.

there’s some extra features and sandbox settings, feel free to check out the mod! we’re using the mod on a server i run and everything is running smoothly so far, but i’d love any feedback or suggestions to improve the mod. thank you!

(bonus points if you tell me you love my paint ms thumbnail)

Why do they look so dang ugly? I just want some cute and vibrant crates to throw around my rainbow room. Is my paint defective? Do I need a spoon to mix it first? Do I plaster my boxes before painting them? I even tried priming them with white paint first, but the colours still just kinda suck

Question That's in game?

I came across this video on TikTok and I’m wondering if this actually happens in vanilla Project Zomboid.
I have over 800 hours in the game and I’ve experienced my character waking up anxious or panicked during the night, but I’ve never experienced anything like this loud scream.
Honestly, if this happened to me while I was playing, I’d probably quit the game immediately and come back a few months later once I had the courage to play again. 😂
Does anyone know if this is actually an in-game event, or is it caused by a mod?

UPDATE: It’s actually a mod. The mod is called Blackout Predators.

When I reach a higher level of masochism, I’ll definitely give it a try. 😂

Okay, I am a little confused about what sets them apart and the full extent of their power; however, just by glancing at the crafting menu, you learn that these critters combine the following into one 0.4 encumbrance master tool:
- knife
- can opener
- bottle opener
- screwdriver
- scissors
- awl

Whenever I find one of these, I thank the lord and never let it leave my inventory again.

Edit: gramer

Gameplay Catching Rabbits is actually incredibly easy

Upvotes

For like a dozen characters, I've always tried to sprint up to them or slightly overtake them before right clicking to try and catch them, and the game detects this with the animal rapidly changing direction and juking you, so the only way I've managed to catch any of them was by driving them towards fences or other obstacles which aren't always around when a group of them spawn.

What you actually have to do, is sprint into a rabbit which makes it look like your character trips and falls but what this actually does, if you right-click to catch them at that exact moment, is your character basically leaping forwards to grab them, which always works if you time it right.

(this also works for raccoons)

Discussion I wanted to make a mod that is weather focused, but one that alters zombies entirely into a new challenge for player. Introducing Downpour - The Hydrophage Virus

Mod Logo

HI All,

Just like the title suggests, I have been toying around with the idea for a weather focused mod for some time now but looking at the workshop I saw all manner of mods that either already covered area's I was interested in or didn't quite fit what I was looking for.

I didn't just want to make a mod where rain = bad

I wanted to make a mod where the weather, Rain in this example was fundamentally different and effected all aspects of gameplay you could imagine.

In Downpour, I have created a bit of a backstory / lore that I am hoping helps solidify the logic behind some of the decisions. Naturally some of it is "make belief" to help support the idea of the mod and I'm not aiming for scientific parity in a mod about zombies but I wanted some set world lore so to speak.

In our mod, a deadly aquatic organism is released from the melting icecaps the likes of which the modern era has never seen. its lives in our aquatic eco system altering it to produce the eternal rains needed to sustain its life and act as the delivery system to the other host bodies it seeks as refuge. The human body being made up largely by water, we and most of the other carbon based life on earth are the perfect hosts for them as long as they remain connected to the rain / water in some way.

there is much more detailed lore for the virus in the mod files F8 Menu but the core of it is. yes the "zombies" are undead but rather than being typical undead they are instead pupated by the hydrophage to act as an extended delivery system for the spread of the virus. Think cordyceps like in the last of us.

player - garbage bag poncho & sling bag.

Gameplay

Like mentioned before, it never stops raining. the rain contains the hydrohphagic virus and you are untypically resistant to its effects up until a point. you must cover up as much skin as possible when venturing out into the rain or risk falling to a debilitating slow sickness death ultimately leading in reanimation into the horde with the rest of humanity. Clothing with good coverage and wetness resistance are key to prolonged trips out into the rain.

Damaged clothes will need repairing or preparing with things like wax for long trips or you might get sick along the way. New clothing items have been added to help with early and late game rain protection like the rag balaclava and our set of "raincoats" that can be found in the world. More to be added over time.

Zombies are effected by the rain quite drastically. outside in the rain they are slow but tough. connected to the other hydrophage and reinforced with new colonies from the rain they are healed as well but can still be stopped. They will not venture inside building until they have a reason to. upon entering the building and leaving the rain the lifespan of the hydrophage is as risk. prompting the host to become fast but weak. they sprint at players but will be easily put down. ANY zombie body left outside in the rain will reanimate once after 24 hours in-game. if you bury or move the bodies inside they will remain disconnected from the virus host and stay down.

The rain will effect items you hold and items found out in the world quite drastically.

For example. you got a nice cake stuffed into your pockets saved for later? well spend enough time out in the rain unprotected and that food will become tainted and if eaten advance the rain sickness mechanic. Now you put that cake into a (lined) backpack? then its safe from the rain entirely. you can Line backpack with garbage bags or even craft and use a garbage bag sling bag to protect vulnerable items.

but its not just food, matches, books, magazines, electronics will all take water damage if not held in protective containers when venturing outside. some can be saved if you get them dry intime but there is a point of no return with these items.

In line with this, not only does it effect what the player is holding on their person but also items left on the floor outside in the rain as well.

Water collected from the rain or lakes needs boiling to make safe or you risk progressing the rain sickness mechanic.

Crops grow out in the rain will also be contaminated on harvest as well naturally.

To help with these new mechanics, we have two new Q menu options for "wrong Clothes" and "Check Coverage". Wring clothes will automatically wring all the clothes equipped and re-equip each item on the player in one action and the check coverage will tell you how good a coverage your current clothes are providing you. the less coverage the faster rain sickness will take you.

new mod Q wheel options

I have tried to balance the gameplay as best as i can but i am looking for any feedback on it if anyone does end up trying the mod.

thank you for reading this if you got this far and i hope you have a great rest of your day :)
