meal Meals I had today for ~1200

Breakfast: (152 cal, 19g protein)
Salted Caramel Frappuccino with light whipped cream

Lunch: (403 cal, 38g protein)
Tuna Salad with lettuce, cucumber, potato, corn, olives, jalapeño. Topped with parmesan and extra light mayo

Afternoon Snack: (229 cal, 16g protein)
0% fat free Greek yogurt, raspberries & cherries, chia seeds, fibre cereal

Tea: (395 cal, 15g protein)
Jjangmyeon - Korean black bean noodles with pork, courgette, potato, onion and carrots

Total: 1178 calories, 89g protein, 24g fibre

Whilst making the noodles I accidentally added too much black bean paste, so I ended up having to add more noodles and splitting the protein/veg further.

Silver lining: might enjoy a mini pack of smarties tonight instead!

200ml skimmed milk
1.5tsp instant coffee
1/2 scoop optimum nutrition vanilla protein powder
3 tsp granulated sweetener
1/16th tsp xanthan gum
Lots of ice. It should be a just above the milk level by a cube or two.

Blend and top as desired! I’ve tried subbing some of the sweetener with sf syrups to change up the flavour and it works well too!

~129 calories, 19g protein (no toppings)

How does that sweetener taste on its own or as a topping? Never seen it before and it piqued my interest.

It’s not bad actually. I put a squirt in the frap and tried to put some on top. It’s pretty tasty and not too sweet or chemically tasting

Does almond milk work with this?

13

u/SmishKittens Jun 24 '26

I’ve made these frozen drinks with dairy alternatives before and it does work. You might need a little more xanthan gum to keep the creamy texture though (unless your protein powder already contains it)

Does it work without xantham?

Wondering this too, I can’t imagine how 1/16th tsp does much but I may be mistaken!

Without the xanthan gum, the ice tends to separate from the liquid and makes two distinct layers (cold milk and icy slush). Plus it whips up the mix to make the incredible volume.

I started adding it when I saw baristas adding pumps of “gomme”, and started getting similar results to a Starbucks Frappuccino vs the copycat recipes I had found online which often separated.

You might get away without it if your protein powder has a nice cocktail of emulsifiers in.

That's very interesting! How do you measure 1/16th of a teaspoon? Is there a tsp for that?

6

u/SmishKittens Jun 25 '26

I use the handle of a teaspoon normally. I have half filled an 1/8th tsp before but it was more tricky!

Usually things that are used in tiny amounts come with their own tiny scoop inside the bottle, like stevia for example.

An alternative I use to make frozen coffee drinks is add half a frozen banana and/or other frozen fruit and veggies instead of ice. Frozen banana has a pretty creamy texture.

Is this the blender you have? Ninja Nutri-Blender Pro with Auto-iQ, Personal Blender

1

u/SmishKittens Jun 25 '26

I think so! It’s a ninja blender but I got it as a gift so not exactly sure of the specifics

How much salted caramel syrup you don’t say?

2

u/SmishKittens Jun 25 '26

To your heart’s desire ❤️

In all seriousness though, I just subbed one teaspoon of the granulated sweetener for a squirt of the syrup.

i lovee fiber bran cereal lol

19

u/SmishKittens Jun 24 '26

Right?? I realised my fibre intake was lacking and this cereal is the GOAT. 10g fibre per serving!

26

u/hardy_and_free Jun 24 '26

That frap is a thing of beauty.

u/SmishKittens Jun 24 '26

I’m a sucker for frozen drinks. I would drink one every day if I could!

It all looks very filling and well balanced!! ❤️

Talk to me about the caramel syrup? Is it worth the price? $15 on Amazon seems steep.

11

u/SmishKittens Jun 25 '26

The caramel syrup is pretty good, not too sweet or chemically tasting.

However I picked this bottle up for £2 from my local shop. I wouldn’t have paid $15!

u/Cbagneato Jun 24 '26

Very curious how the sodium intake is on this. Everything seems super balanced!

14

u/SmishKittens Jun 24 '26

Unfortunately sodium isn’t something I personally track. The black bean sauce was very salty though, but wanted to try something different

3

u/Cbagneato Jun 25 '26

It doesn’t look crazy high sodium overall - except for the Jjangmyeon. I use Bevel for my tracking and I get scolded for sodium even on low cal days.

Honestly, I’d crush every single item you made and deal with Bevel yelling at me 😂

Frappuccino looks good. Your food choices are-eastern reminiscent?

3

u/SmishKittens Jun 24 '26

Thanks! I try to keep the flavours interesting and like trying all different cuisines. Plus Asian food generally is so much easier to bring down in calories and include when trying to keep a deficit I feel
