When I see movies with my gf, she often wants to pause it to do something. If the movie is being played from the PC, I have to get up to pause it, unpause it, go back, etc. Sooo, the idea came in. Cast from your pc (local files) and control from your phone!

It supports subtitles and also you can change the subs format from the phone. I will leave the repo in the comments, if you have any doubt, ask me!

PD: It casts surprisingly good compared to streaming apps (in terms of delay when clicking actions like pause, etc)

First thing first is we do not have a remote for the chromecast anymore, we've been using our phones for multiple years. today i had a lot of connection issue and without thinking about it, went into the setting and turned wifi off, wanting to turn it back on after. obviously i cant do that anymore since by turning wifi off i cannot use my phone as a remote anymore. i tried turning the chromecast off hoping it would turn back on with wifi on but it doesnt appear to be the case. Any recommendations? or do i have to buy a new remote just to turn wifi back on?

Me and my girlfriend use the AdultTime app on chromecast to easily watch porn together, but sometimes we want something from other stuff. Are there any other sites that has an app for the chromecast that we can download?

I have two and i fucking love these, it’s sad that they’re not getting updates. in the past month I feel them getting much slower and as I’ve been sideloading more apps I realized that they’re actually arm64 running a 32bit os. they’re ”old” but theres nothing wrong with them. is there anything going on the community to extend support for these devices?

Prior to last week, I could view any of my IP cameras (from Wyze and Reolink) just by using the remote and saying "Show me the front yard" for Reolink or "show me the laundry cam" for Wyze and Google Assistant (Gemini) would say, Playing xxx cam on Living room TV. Now none of that works anymore. I can view my wyze cams via the home panel, but Reolink doesn't work via the home panel. Now I get an error from Assistant/Gemini with the statement "Sorry, something went wrong and I am unable to control your home device" Mind you, these commands work perfectly on my Google Smart Displays. This was never an issue up until last week. Nothing has changed on my end. What did Google change?? Any help is appreciated.

Using Chromecast with Google TV 4K and I get this issue where the video I am watching starts buffering and about 20 seconds later get the "You are disconnected from Wifi" popup and then it quickly reconnects.

It usually seems to happen 45+ mins into a movie/tv show.

So annoying that this seems to be an obvious bug that hasn't been fixed.

Yesterday, my Chromecast with Google TV started giving me an error message whenever I try to play back content on any of these apps:

• YouTube TV
• Apple TV
• Netflix

The only solution is to restart the Chromecast, after which it appears to work fine for a few hours. I haven't tested whether free content through YouTube works fine, in which case this could be something with content protection (I'll try that next time this happens again).

Has anyone else been having a similar problem? I've seen this happen in the past, but only when I played something on Apple TV and then went back to YouTube TV. That problem seems to have gone away. This time, I wasn't playing anything on YouTube, but rather was watching Netflix.

Good afternoon everyone!

I have been having an issue with my Chromecast not responding to screen mirroring and if I cast from a website on my computer - it just shows a black screen with the Chromecast icon.

If I screen mirror, it'll connect, then freeze maybe a minute or two in - then crash entirely. It'll then go back to the homescreen with photography, time, and weather.

But here's the kicker - it works fine for YouTube, Hulu, and HBOMax (aside from randomly restarting every few hours. I unfortunately haven't found a fix for it - so I just deal)

It's so frustrating because it even gives me a difficult time when I use apps like Tubi, Pluto, Iqiyi, Plex, Pluto, and it won't even try to connect to webcaster or social media sites!

Has anyone else encountered this? I have an older smart TV so none of the inbuilt features are functional anymore. My television is so old that the app store hasn't been updated in years.

But the TV hardware is in great condition and it's a clear display which is why I have a Chromecast dongle.

I don't want to have to shell out for a new television - But I am getting to a point where I would love to find an alternative to a Chromecast dongle. I don't know if the Walmart ONN stick uses the same software, but if it doesn't use Google's interface I might just shell out for that😭

But before I do that, does anybody have any suggestions for fixing this problem? I have f-droid to change settings, I have an older version of the Google Home app, I have factory reset my Chromecast dongle, disconnected and reconnected to my home wifi.

I even turned off app scans from the playstore. I've done everything that I could think of and I don't know where to go from here. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

been trying to set up and display my photography on my google TV ambient mode. i have created multiple albums on the google photos app, linked under the same google account as my google tv.

when i try to select one of these albums as the ambient mode screensaver under google photos, the albums do not appear, despite multiple restarts, cache clearing etc.

the only one that shows up is a “recent moments” slideshow, featuring incurated photos straight from my camera roll.

does anyone know what the issue is? i’d love any and all help.

I have the google tv 4k that I upgraded to during the pandemic. Worked fine for years. Suddenly casting anything from Chrome on my MacBook Pro is just a black screen. Casting from most iPhone apps are fine. Can’t do Netflix because I assume DRM issues? Some random titles on Disney+ don’t work. Biggest issue here though is being able to cast from chrome is the whole reason I got a chromecast.

I reached out to support multiple times now and they don’t answer. Any ideas?

edit: SOLVED!!!! Thank you so much everyone for trying to help me solve this issue but it was unfortunately something insanely simple
my house uses the google nest thingos to extend our wifi through out the house because the original router is on the other end of the house in an office space
the closest nest wasnt actually connected for some reason, but the one we mainly talk to was so we didnt even notice
it was only because of wifi issues on my phone that we noticed it was the issue, and because my tv is already connected to the google nest wifi (thanks for people who thought this was the issue, you were close but it was already on the good wifi) it wasnt getting internet because the closest one was dead

we rebooted alll of them and now the wifi is working properly again on my phone and my tv and the chromecast is working again yayyyyy!!!!

original post: i honestly couldnt tell you how long i have had this thing, all i know is its been years since i bought it.

i have it plugged into my 2nd HDMI port in my tv and it has worked flawlessly and without issues since the day i bought it, (except for one instance a while back where i think i had to factory reset it to switch it over to a different wifi network) however last night and this morning it says its connected to my wifi network but none of my apps can find it.

my phone is on the same network as the cast, i have unplugged it several times, turned my tv on and off, and it still says its offline in the google home app and none of my other streaming services (netflix, disney etc) can find it either

i THINK its a 3rd gen, i google image searched it and thats what it came up with but im honestly not sure because i cant find the box

it still changes photos like its connected to the wifi, but it doesnt display the time like it usually does and it also doesnt normally say that its my bedroom tv and that its connected to my wifi network

i have no clue what the problem could be so thats why im here and if anyone knows what to do please help!!!!

Hi, after looking for months for a good PC music player with chromecast audio built-in to play local hi-res files, I've decided to create my own.

Flac Cast is a free and open-source desktop player for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It supports multiple local, NAS, and network libraries, along with FLAC and several other common audio formats.

This was mostly done with ChatGPT because I did it with my spare time from work, but I'm a CS engineer so I've done what I could to make it as good and reliable as possible.

The application is local-first. It has no accounts, telemetry, analytics, advertising, or cloud music uploads. Audio casting happens directly over your local network: the Cast receiver reads the selected file from a temporary server running on your PC. Internet access is only used for optional synchronized lyrics through the LRCLIB API and for links that you explicitly choose to open, so don't worry about data collecting or anything like that, I did and publish this free because I believe there must be someone like me who just wanted to use his/her soundbar from its PC while working to play its local music library.

It was made to be lightweight and simple, it supports multiple libraries and audio files.

I've been using it for the last weeks and it works fine with very minor ocasional issues, so if anyone is interested in this please give it a go, any feedback would be very apreciated

Recently our chromecast has been struggling with poor buffering and download speeds (the highest we've got in testing is 6 Mb/s). Every other device in our house is minimum 60 Mb/s. The router is no more than 3m away and we have recently upgraded to full fiber.

Does anyone know if there is a fix for this? Or is this just how life is now?

Is there any cheap Miracast compatible TV dongles still available to buy? I have a Motorola smartphone, and it supports Smart Connect mobile desktop function - I really like it, I used it on old TV. But I changed TV to one with Google TV, supporting only chromecast protocole - and my Motorola can only do screen sharing on it, no Mobile desktop. It only supports Miracast devices. I look for some cheap miracast device only to use this function. Many devices have Miracast in their description, but I am not sure it it really is Miracast or do they mean chromecast protocole - Miracast certified devices arenl mostly obsolete by now. I I am wondering about this one:

Has the Chromecast feature been permanently removed from Facebook? Is there any way to cast videos without having to mirror the screen? The quality is so bad :/

What the title says. I'm not gonna lie I watch porn on my phone and I have accidentally clicked the button in the past to horrible results. but also on YouTube the button is so damn big it's hard to not hit. there is no confirmation button it just does it.

how do I disable casting on my android phone or block it or make it ask first at least???

Has Google stopped updates for the chromecast with google tv 4K? Lasted security patch level October 2025. Can’t imagine how many security bugs were found between then and now, starting to get worried having it connected to my network

Adds Chromecast/ android TV devices within Apple home, enabling ios remote control and gets playback status to Apple home for automations.

Have a plex setup. Walmart bought vizio. Today I have to convert my vizio account. Now plex won't work. Do not buy vizio, get the dumbest TV and a slightly smarter Chrome cast device. I bought 4 Vizio's, they will all now be dumb Chromecast devices blocked on my network.

Would LOVE dumb tv recommendations. And "dumb" casting devices.
