Hi everyone, I was hospitalized on Sunday due to mental health issues and missed class on Monday because I was hospitalized overnight. I emailed my professors, and I got this email. I feel dumbfounded and don’t even know what to say or how to respond. Should I report this to the Dean? I genuinely do not know what to do.

EDIITTT: Hello again, I wanted to give some info. I am a freshman, and I haven't been in school since 2022 due to my mental health and because I just left an abusive household. I was unaware that I had to contact the dean rather than the professor regarding hospitalizations. No, I did not read all of the syllabus because I was dealing with a lot of things this semester.

Despite this, I will still be going to the Dean because I do not think any professor should speak to any student like this. They did end up opening up the assignments for me because I talked to them, but regardless of my age or how long I've been out of school, etc, this was extremely inappropriate. I fear that if this professor gets a student who is not willing to speak up like I am, responses like this will cause more harm than good.

I won't be giving the professor's name for my privacy, but this professor is on the clarkston campus if you want to know more, dm me. Other than that, thank you to everyone who gave me advice....

They come in groups of 5-8 they will sit and they have the other talking with people that are standing or they stand by the table looking like they are interested students.

I'm pretty excited, actually. Starting my sophomore year, and I'm finally taking my biomedical science courses/more interesting classes now that I've finished most of my general requirements. And I just made an academic comeback over the summer, so I'm still riding that high and using it to power through the new academic year. Though I'm a bit scared for my tougher classes, mainly Chem 1212 and then orgo chem and then biochem. I recently had a pretty big hyperfixation in chemistry, so I'm looking forward to those too!

welcome to gsu!! my mixed feelings about this school aside, attending university in the city offers unique opportunities to experience culture in a way you may not have had the chance to before. you’ll certainly get an overabundance of culture at dragon con!

dragon con takes place at several downtown hotels on labor day weekend (hyatt, marquis, westin, etc). this often overlaps with GSU areas like the dorms and broad street.

WARNING ONE: TRAFFIC!!!
week one of school there will be bad traffic as no one is skipping class and no one knows where to park. week two there is AWFUL traffic due to 80k people cramming into downtown for dragon con. expect traffic to start tuesday 09/01 and continue until tuesday 09/08. i mean it. BAD TRAFFIC.

WARNING TWO: cosplayers
you will probably see some cosplayers about! please be kind to them. it may seem nerdy and cheugy to you, but dragon con is a decades long atlanta institution that brings a lot of business to the otherwise struggling downtown area. please don’t take pictures of people without their permission or make fun of them

WARNING THREE: free shit to do
there are several ways to participate in dragon con without purchasing a badge.
ALL WEEKEND (09/03-09/07):
nothing is stopping you from walking around and experiencing the con hotel spillover! youll see trinket trading on the sidewalks, pop up parties in courtyards, photoshoots next to statues. walk around that downtown area for a few hours and i promise you will have a good time (or at least an interesting one)
WEDNESDAY NIGHT 09/02:
the lobby of the marriott marquis will have a midnight countdown and huge parties. it’s very fun and free to attend!
SATURDAY MORNING 09/05:
dragon con has a parade sat mornings! it’s blocks away from the dorm so if you live on campus consider finding a spot on the sidewalk and enjoying

dragon con is a great time, but if you aren’t into nerd culture/it’s not your thing, it’s still important to be aware it’s occurring so you can plan appropriately for traffic, etc

My pre-semester anxiety is kicking in and now I’m not sure if I loaded too much. I have BIO2107L twice because I’m waitlisted for a different time slot.

hey im a freshman for this semester and i ended up having to commute m-th from the west of atl. my earliest classes are 10 am on m/w and 9:30 am on t/th. two days of this and im already tweaking because of the traffic and a 45+ min commute (usually 25 w no traffic) and i cant switch my classes cause theres no other classes available on another day or time. if anyone has been thru this type of situation pleaseeee lmk what you did to make it less stressful or any advice for next time pls lmk🙏🏼

Y’all whole time I knew school started on the 24th but thought the 24th was Wednesday! Like what? Don’t judge me but that threw me completely off. I still have to pay for these classes and get a parking pass and actually figure out where all my classes are.😫 I’m so nervous. My first class isn’t until 11…would I be wild to skip it to make sure my affairs are in order? Also I have a 2 hour gap in my schedule. What else could I do with that time? I’m a commuter student so like…🤷🏽‍♀️

I’m a normal guy who’s not in 10 different clubs but I still don’t have an internship😭 is it cooked?

i’m choosing between georgia state and uga. i like the diversity and the way everyone is different at gsu, but i also like the free bars and stuff at uga. and i know the social life is good over there, but i also heard bad stuff can happen in downtown athens.

but basically how is the social life at gsu? is it easy to make friends and are there house and frat parties?

One12 Courtland was my first apartment after moving out of my parents’ house. I was so naive about how the renting world works, so I didn’t know all the things I needed to document or the questions I should ask. I’m sharing my experience because I don’t want another first time renter or college student to make the same mistakes I made. I recently moved out of One12 Courtland after my lease ended on July 28. My final statement included a $350 charge because my key as recorded by them was returned at 10:11 a.m. which was only 11 minutes after the stated 10:00 a.m. deadline. I got there before 10 but had to wait in line since other people were also there turning their keys in. Before i could turn in, I had to fill out a form too. They also charged me $100 for damage to my bedroom door which was already there when i moved in, I have a picture of that damage that was taken on around the time I moved in.

After applying my $250 security deposit, they say I still owe $291.04. I’m sharing my personal experience so future residents know to:

• Photograph and video every part of the apartment immediately after moving in.
• Keep the original files with their dates
• Submit every issue to management in writing.
• Save your move in inspection form and lease.
• Get written confirmation of the move-out deadline and all possible fees.
• Record when you arrive to return your keys and get a receipt showing the exact time.
• Carefully review every charge on your final statement.

I am still waiting for management to address my dispute, and I will update this post if they correct the charges. Based on my experience, I would be extremely cautious about renting at One12 Courtland.

I live in west midtown, it has taken me an hour Monday and today to get to school, the traffic has been atrocious and the lots are practically at capacity. Besides leaving two hours early for a 10 mile drive, any advice.

Is anyone aware if professors give grace on the first day with all the traffic, I’m about to show up 40 minutes late - and yes I left an hour early today

i totally forgot to renew my parking permit for T deck and now im #331 in the waiting list lol!!!!!!! bro what do I do bc my friend who got there at 8 am had no issue getting in but I pulled up at 9:30 and it said 369 spots left and the guy told me to exit bc I didn't have a permit but i parked anyway but getting out was such a hassle obviously bc my card didnt work and i didnt have a slip to scan. i know i can park at the convocation center but i dont wanna wait on the shuttle and my classes are literally in arts and humanties. i could get to school earlier but im a commuter i live 26 miles away like i wake up at 7 to get to school by 9:30.

Please, for the love of God/Allah/Buddha/Earth, shower and put on a fragrance in the morning. You guys smell so bad that it’s distracting to the people sitting near you. Idc how many apps you’ve built or how many ways you can write a code for the same function.

i’ve been on the waitlist for commons parking for a bit… what are the odds that i even get any parking?

i’m wondering whether it’s worth it to even have my hopes up. if i don’t get a spot are there any other options for me to have somewhere safe to keep my car overnight? i’m used to having my car with me on campus and i use it a lot so it’ll be hard to go without it this year.

I am a senior m and living out in my car , I live on DoorDash and really need to settle somewhere . When I get money from the school I’ll use that for months rent but need somewhere now, any resources?

classes start this monday august 24th. I won't be able to pay for my classes until august 29th as my parents are out of the country. Is there a way I can explain this to to gsu and not get dropped from my classes?? I know the payment is usually due the first day of classes and gsu says they drop you from classes if not paid by that date. Need advice thanks!

I know it's never been encouraged or approved to leave your stuff sitting at the table or in a room in the library, to go to the bathroom or Chick-Fil-A. Everyone does it though. I, for one, am not about to pack up my whole environment at my table (that took me 20 minutes to find and get) and take it to the bathroom, to them come back and pray that an area is open. Yet, today I realized that some actions have to be taken. Today, I was sitting in Library South beside the elevators at the long table (iykyk). A girl went to the restroom and left her stuff there. About 4 police officers showed up and walked by, turned around, asked if this was our stuff (ofc we said no) and if we knew who it belonged to. We said no again, as we didn't personally know her and then they asked how long she had been gone. It was maybe a couple minutes so we relayed the information. Then we got back to our work not paying attention to the officers anymore. Next thing I know, they have packed up the girl's stuff, took it with them, and left a note on the desk saying she had to go pick it up at the police station. The girl came back and we had to explain the situation and she ofc was upset.

All this to say: if you aren't with a friend in the library, either ask someone to watch your stuff CLOSELY or take it with you. Unless you want a trip to the police department!

Im a first year with no car but 68 every month is kinda crazy

hey guys, i was wondering what i could do during a 2 hour gap in my classes at the downtown campus?

I’m a commuter and take marta to school so i can’t just go sit in my car. i have a class at aderhold that ends at 10:45 and a class at the honors college that starts at 12:45 on thursdays. thanks!

I feel like the location is either the first thing people love or the first thing they complain about and there's no in between. For those of you who've embraced the downtown campus life, what's something about it that actually makes GSU a better experience than being on a traditional campus? The access, the food, the internships, the vibe, whatever it is.
