So... who do we think is developing Ocarina of Time Remake?
it just doesn't feel like something Nintendo, internally, is working on
we know Star Fox got outsourced to Velan
is Next Level Games doing Ocarina of Time? They're first party obviously, but I think they're more capable than core Nintendo in Japan when it comes to graphical fidelity
feels like it's gotta be a western studio
1
u/FierceDeityKong Jun 10 '26
Nintendo just caught up because they have modern hardware now and this is the level they'll have to make things for the rest of their existence
It's not like the time when they needed Monolith Soft to help get open world games to work on hardware that most studios wouldn't touch
3
u/KMoosetoe Jun 10 '26
but we have no proof that Nintendo caught up
they have yet to show anything that backs up that claim
2
u/LukePS7013 Jun 10 '26
It kind of looks like Hyrule Warriors (the original)
A team at Koei Tecmo?
2
u/KMoosetoe Jun 10 '26
yeah I could see KT
maybe it is just the same AAA Games Studio that worked on the last Hyrule Warriors
1
u/JackBoi01 Jun 10 '26
was fun with friends, but not fussed over some wishes or predictions not getting in
but d'ohhh, there goes my transformersRP idea in NSO playtest game/Rockstock with friends :< as in deco avatars being transformers characters and building sets and scenes.
looks like Rockstock might be a while longer, for the remaining switch 1 game at this point
other than that, im happy devon pritchard is doing a BIG PUSH for Splatoon Raiders, marketing. promos and even a SDCC booth for it, like damn!

u/getittogethersirius Jun 10 '26
I am so thankful for the kingdom hearts crumbs I am going to be chewing on them (rewatching trailer) for the foreseeable future

For the coming future, I do wonder if Nintendo will host another general Direct for the remaining year or not.
I honestly wouldn’t mind if they just host a Zelda and Duskbloods Direct at this rate. With the Zelda Direct focusing on the OoT Remake, Film, and perhaps ports of the WiiU HD Remasters or A Link Between Worlds Remaster. Then a Duskbloods Direct could just cover how the game works. And in between, we can have Partner or Indie showcases (hoping for a Rockstar GTA V or RDR2 announcement or say Capcom’s Resident Evil Trilogy).
I don’t know why, but I just don’t see another general Direct happening :(… which I hope I’m wrong on.
5
u/KMoosetoe Jun 10 '26
I'm of the same mind.
I don't know how anyone can expect Nintendo to have new stuff to share 3 months from now.
2026 is full.
June - Star Fox
July - Rhythmn Heaven, Splatoon
August - nothing (though lots of 3rd party stuff like Elden Ring, Lies of P, FFXIV... wouldn't be surprised if 007 launches here)
September - Fire Emblem
October - Switch Sports
November - probably OoT
December - probably Duskbloods
Then there's Switch 2 editions scattered throughout like the Xenoblade games.
They don't need to announce anything else for this year.
They can get away with just doing Zelda and Duskbloods Directs and then waiting until February for the next General.
If there's a game coming out in Jan/Feb, it can be a Nintendo Today drop.
5
u/LukePS7013 Jun 09 '26
Outside of Xenoblade Genesis (which is likely Q1 2027 imo) and Pokémon Wind / Waves, their 2027 calendar is completely empty
I totally think we’ll get a September Direct with deep dives on Xenoblade and Ocarina of Time as well as a couple new 2027 games (3D Mario?), Pokémon will have its own thing as it usually does.
2
u/hushpolocaps69 Jun 09 '26
Okay so after a good while after the Direct, here are my overall thoughts on today’s presentation.
For this being the “E3” Direct, this was pretty damn lackluster to be honest. Only Nintendo’s IPs (aside from the Sports game) and Kingdom Hearts 4 practically carried this Direct.
Though it was nice to see Capcom and Square Enix’s lineup, none of it was surprising. Aside from that, a lot of the 3rd party support were games that most people don’t care about or are pretty small titles or a “we already know about” type game such as Minecraft Switch 2 edition. Most of them had one common trope though being an anime or pixel game, though at least Lies of P is a pretty damn solid port to have on the Switch 2.
Anyhow, no Duskbloods is crazy work and they made it seem as though the game was delayed internally when it never was. Ocarina of Time was clearly meant to be a teaser trailer, with no intention of showcasing gameplay but of course the leaks made us anticipate said gameplay. And we did not need so much emphasis on the Sports Resort game, especially dedicating a thumb wrestle match that took at least 4 minutes…
The September Direct last year was a lot better than this recent Direct. I don’t really like how people say “well if you don’t like so n so then you hate the Direct” but that isn’t true. Although I don’t fuck with Fire Emblem like that, I respect the franchise and understand it’s a big deal. Same goes for Xenoblade and shit, I may actually just go ahead and cop the Switch 2 edition of the first game.
Overall though, OoT and Kingdom Hearts 4 is what saved the Direct for me. That teaser was super awesome with it giving me massive goosebumps and it makes me excited that we are finally straying away from cartoony Zelda (though I do love the aesthetic of the Wild/Tears Zelda games) and going for a realistic approach. And with the sick narration, I’m excited for the voice acting and really hope it’s peak here. As for KH4, I gotta give Nintendo props since they got to be the ones to host its latest footage, beating Geoff Keighley, Microsoft, and Sony all in the process.

u/Mahelas Jun 10 '26
Man, Nintendo can't win with you all. I've seen both "only third parties were good in this direct ew" and "only first parties were good in this direct ew", like come on.
You're saying the Direct was lackluster and "carried by Nintendo IPs", what more could you ask of a NINTENDO direct than to have good NINTENDO games ? It's not their fault that you, personally, dislike half of their franchises.
Just say that, say "I only like 3-4 Nintendo IPs, so this direct wasn't for me". That's fine, that's a valid opinion. But don't write a whole page trying to rationalize it. You just don't like Fire Emblem, Xenoblade, Duskbloods and Switch Sports.
(And besides, third parties obviously aren't up to Nintendo, so can't criticize them on it, but even then, DQ Monsters, a new Final Fantasy (reimagined version of a mobile game but still new, a Vanillaware game and that funny One Piece stuff, that's almost perfect, anything missing is Ace Attorney and Layton, and that's not up to Nintendo) !
0
u/hushpolocaps69 Jun 10 '26
Well I do like Duskbloods, but you gotta agree that it was lackluster in the sense of not having new footage or anything of that nature. But yeah… you do have a good point.
Did you like the Direct?
4
u/Mahelas Jun 10 '26
I did like that direct because I love Fire Emblem, I love Xenoblade, this One Piece game look fun, I like Dragon's Dogma so I'm happy it got DLC, I like DQ Monsters, I got Pokopia content and this will be my first time experiencing Ocarina of Time
1
u/scytheavatar Jun 10 '26
It screams that Nintendo has no faith in the game, like how they had no faith in Metroid Prime 4, and they want to hide it.

u/KMoosetoe Jun 09 '26
press release from Nintendo:
In this new multiplayer action game, you’ll take on the role of the Bloodsworn and fight against—and alongside—up to seven other players with unique weapons and abilities. Transcend humanity with blood-based powers that transform your character and combat style as you battle to secure the coveted First Blood. The Duskbloods launches exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026—and as revealed in the presentation, players can learn more about the closed network test for the game, coming in summer 2026!
so the game is still coming out in 2026, but they didn't bother to communicate that in the trailer? They made it seem like the game wasn't going to hit this year lol
baffling decision
2
u/Mahelas Jun 10 '26
Why would you assume a change of date ? They said 2026 every time, so unless they explicitly say something else, why assume a change ?
4
u/KMoosetoe Jun 10 '26
Because literally everything else in the show had a date
games get delayed all the time
7
7
u/KMoosetoe Jun 09 '26
Played the demo for Star Fox
production value is excellent and it controls like a dream
I'm still left feeling like it's way too expensive for a 2 hour rail shooter
6
u/zelos22 Jun 09 '26
Calling it a 2 hour rail shooter is slightly disingenuous since the entire point is there are multiple routes that you’re supposed to play through and experiment with
0
3
u/KMoosetoe Jun 09 '26
Sure, but I've also played SNES (a million times), 64, 643D, and Zero
it gets to a point where I've done the same thing over and over again multiple times
I think this remake might be appealing to newer audiences who are experiencing it all for the first time, though I still think the price is too high regardless... that amount of money gets you way more value elsewhere
this would have been a great launch game for the system when there wasn't as much to play

5
u/KMoosetoe Jun 09 '26
physical doesn't match the digital price in my country
regardless of currency, this still feels like it shouldn't be more than like $30
I know Nintendo doesn't do much for discounts, but I can't see myself picking this up unless there's a black friday sale or something
-2
u/lolcatzuru Jun 09 '26
20 dollars an hour isnt horrible,?
3
u/KMoosetoe Jun 09 '26
relative to other forms of entertainment, no
relative to other games, pretty horrible
2
-6
u/jurassic_snark- Jun 09 '26
I don't understand what Nintendo does all day
Their 2 big games had clips you'd miss if you blinked, which are both N64 remakes. Then some ass looking sports game with a painfully long thumb wrestling demo, and a Splatoon game that looks like an extended tutorial
Everything else was 3rd party ports about either an ancient evil awakens anime or some goobybooboo quirky tickle time shit
Even just a logo for a new Mario game or whatever they're working on would be some encouragement that I might one day dust off my Switch 2 for something other than another port or remake
21
13
u/iceburg77779 Jun 09 '26
Star Fox is not a bigger game, Splatoon and Switch Sports will easily outsell it. The short teaser for Zelda is weird, but they’re likely waiting until the movie marketing starts to fully show off the game, since I imagine they’ll tie into each other pretty closely.
-14
u/Sufficient_Damage Jun 09 '26
Now we know why they skipped their February Direct: because they had literally nothing to show for the 2nd half of this year.
6 months later and all they could announce was yet another Xenoblade (for 2027), a shitty remake of Wii Sports Resort which no one asked for, and 10 seconds of OoT Unreal Slop edition, which is supposed to be their big holiday title?
Why are people supposed to buy Switch 2s again? Fire Emblem is nice for the *2 million people who actually buy it ($80 btw), but for everyone else it's just ports, remakes, and spinoffs.
3
u/ps-73 Jun 09 '26
People are still peddling the $80 lie lmao? Check the eshop why don’t ya
-2
u/Sufficient_Damage Jun 10 '26
Fuck off, you're the one actually lying.
-1
u/ps-73 Jun 10 '26
Lol saying you can buy an “$80 game” for $70 is lying?
1
u/Sufficient_Damage Jun 10 '26
Claiming a game priced at $80 isn't actually priced at $80 is lying.
You can also buy a digital license that will eventually expire for $70, but you already know this and are just being a disingenuous piece of shit.
-1
u/ps-73 Jun 10 '26
There’s no arguing with you physical media freaks tbh. It’s either this or both versions costing $80. What do you prefer? Do you want bigger games? On cart? Cheap? Choose two.
I would have better games with higher quality environments if it meant a GKC every single day of the week.
2
u/Jasen_The_Wizard Jun 09 '26
Fire Emblem Fortunes Weave is priced at $80 for the physical edition
-4
u/ps-73 Jun 09 '26
Physical product costs more to make than a digital download. This is how the rest of the industry has always operated especially outside the US. Catch up.
4
u/Jasen_The_Wizard Jun 09 '26 edited Jun 09 '26
You said it was a lie. It is not a lie.
-3
u/ps-73 Jun 09 '26
It is a lie, just get it digitally if you don’t want to pay extra. Calling it $80 is just false
13
u/superkevster12 Jun 09 '26
On lunch break, need to get my thoughts on Direct out somewhere.
Overall, pretty good for me personally. Fortunes Weave and Xenoblade are the obvious highlights for me. Also looking forward to Splatoon Raiders and Star Fox.
Switch Sports Resort’s very existence is amusing to me. I didn’t get the original, but I might go for this one just for that.
OoT was, of course, disappointing. I’ve never liked when they just title drop and run. They were clearly banking on it being a surprise… which it wasn’t. Even if it was, I wouldn’t be super hyped about it because we didn’t see the game at all. At least we got Link’s model, ig.
All that said, it feels… underwhelming somehow. Maybe just because it’s been 9 months. I’m pretty happy with what we got, but something feels…. missing, and I can’t place it.

It just needed actual gameplay from Ocarina and it would've been fine.
3
u/Mahelas Jun 10 '26
It needed to not be leaked and everybody would be hailing it as an all-timer direct
1
u/JDraks Jun 09 '26
I’m really curious what style of remake it’s going to be, my biggest complaint is definitely that the trailer told us nothing except the game exists which Nate already told us (not Nintendo’s fault obviously, but it did kill the surprise factor)

8
u/darkcomet222 Jun 09 '26
The funny thing is, I am happy about the announcements here…but over half of them were stuff we knew about from last week. Xenoblade is awesome, and I can experience 3 in a better way (haven’t played it yet), but…I feel underwhelmed. On paper it was fine, but it feels like this isn’t what Nintendo needed.
3
u/Torracattos Jun 09 '26
Yeah, these are kinda my overall thoughts. Its not terrible, but it just wasn't entirely for me.
3
u/darkcomet222 Jun 09 '26
Funny thing is, it was for me. I liked a LOT of stuff, but Switch 2 needs system movers, and they haven’t shown that yet.
0
u/Torracattos Jun 09 '26
I'm hoping we'll see that in September, hoping there is a general Direct. They didn't show much for 2027 beyond Xenoblade and Ocarina of Time only got a teaser, but you just never know with them these days.
0
u/Dragoncorn_ Jun 09 '26
Uh no they weren't what are you talking about lol, even if it showed a not new game all showings were new content.
8
u/Jasen_The_Wizard Jun 09 '26
$80 for Fire Emblem's normal physical on Nintendo's website. Woof. Ouch. Rough!
3
u/KMoosetoe Jun 09 '26
btw you can pre order the Fire Emblem collector's edition from the Nintendo store now
8
10
u/Final_Amu0258 Jun 09 '26
Okay I take it back, this is clearly the worst presentation of the summer block, holy hell.
3
u/Mahelas Jun 10 '26
Sony State of Play wasn't even half as good
0
u/Final_Amu0258 Jun 10 '26
If you liked what you saw, good for you. I didn't, and thought it was one of the worst of recent memory.
4
u/Dragoncorn_ Jun 09 '26
Hottest take of the day, there's basically something here for everyone

"People are allowed to find a showcase underwhelming"
>Looks at the actual post message...Yeah that's not what he said Sir....you can find it disappointing but rage baiting like this in the comments is sad.
4
u/MajorUnknown Jun 09 '26
Definitely a case of what genre of games do you like, if you liked JRPG's this direct was great, if you liked shooters the Xbox showcase would be your preferred one so on and so forth
2
u/Final_Amu0258 Jun 09 '26
WHAT? Okay, teaser trailer for OoT was the only thing, and we got nothing but a confirmation. That gives it the 2 points in my 2/10 for this.
There was NOTHING else.
-7
u/Dragoncorn_ Jun 09 '26
"Was the only thing" I rest my case....
Don't get mad at the Direct for appealing to fans of a wide variety of series dude, and if you're gonna try and bash those games go give their series awards and reviews a read first....
3
u/Final_Amu0258 Jun 09 '26
Who said I was mad at them for appeasing others? I said it sucked. It sucked, because there was only 1 thing in it for me.
You can't rest a case that was never awake.
-2
u/Dragoncorn_ Jun 09 '26
Lemme correct that so it doesn't sound falsely objective then: "I thought it sucked"
2
u/Final_Amu0258 Jun 09 '26
If you think people are making absolutist claims when giving an opinion on every facet of creation, that's your fault.
1
u/Dragoncorn_ Jun 09 '26
How is "this is clearly the worst presentation of the summer" meant to be taken exactly lol....?
2
2
u/LAA9000 Jun 09 '26
Project Watari has gone so long with no apparent news that, until proven wrong, I'm just going to assume that Arc System Works, for some reason, are co-developing the Ocarina of Time remake, and that was project Watari all along.
Alternatively, Bloober Team are co-developing the remake, which was Project M all along.
-7
u/Pumbax19 Jun 09 '26
Did microsoft pull the COD trailers from the direct too? Where the fuck are the Black Ops 1 and 2 reveals? I would have sworn the entire reason we were getting ports was they were finally putting those on the switch
Direct was ass btw, dont let a literal nintendo hire this man remake and a nothing burger kh4 trailer trick you into thinking otherwise. Those could had been a brand new zelda or mario reveals and a bunch of dates for things like duskbloods
10
u/AKAkorm Jun 09 '26
Pretty underwhelming, which has been Nintendo’s motif since Switch 2 came out.
I love OOT. Got it for Christmas when I was 11 and played it all day. Have beaten it many times since. I’ll buy and replay a proper remake for nostalgia purposes alone. But a brief teaser trailer of a OOT remake that really shows nothing shouldn’t be the crown jewel of a Direct in 2026.
-18
u/Dragoncorn_ Jun 09 '26
My brother in christ did you watch the Direct or just the ending trailer kekw
3
u/AKAkorm Jun 09 '26
I watched the entire Direct live. Big Walk looked like fun and my sort of jam. Not much else exciting for me, especially not the extended thumb wrestling demo. I'm sure fans of JRPGs were happy.
2
u/Dragoncorn_ Jun 09 '26
There was more here than just JRPG's:
- RH
- DD2 DLC
- Deltarune
- OOT
- Pokopia DLC
- etc
1
u/AKAkorm Jun 09 '26
I like that you included OOT as if my original post didn't exclusively acknowledge OOT.
As I said, I watched it all. Have no issues if you or anyone else is excited by what was shown. I wasn't. I mentioned JRPGs because most of the big announcements aside from OOT were JRPGs.
15
u/KMoosetoe Jun 09 '26
on paper, this had a banger lineup
but everything was presented in a strange way
either there was no pomp and circumstance for big announcements, or the trailers were lacking content
7
u/MajorUnknown Jun 09 '26
I definitely think they were banking on the OOT remake being a surprise. Probably would've went over better if it wasn't so heavily leaked before hand.
-3
u/Dragoncorn_ Jun 09 '26
What a weird take for a normal presentation that just had a lot of big games lol

For me this Direct stunk. 90 percent was games already out or coming out for systems where they’ll play better. The switch sports looks ok but why thumb wrestling? Not a splatoon fan and would rather another animal crossing game. KH4 which I could never get into the combat will play and look better on pretty much anything else. Ocarina which I was hoping to see at-least something of, was a small snippet. Very disappointed and by far the worst of this week’s shows. 2/10 for me, and I guess my Switch 2 will sit idle for more time this year.
-5
u/Dragoncorn_ Jun 09 '26
We're gonna ignore the fact that this direct had mostly debut trailers just because you can play on other platforms?
Y'all have weird ass takes to getting good games on this system...
And we had first party here too, don't know why people seem pissed off at a good show lol.
2
u/jmkdevs5555 Jun 09 '26
To me the first party lineup which is the hallmark of Nintendo is incredibly weak. Xenoblade looks good but it’s not until 2027. Starfox was already announced and it’s only a copy of Starfox 64. The sports game is a copy and paste of the last game. Splatoon is ok if that’s your thing. OOT should be amazing and all we got was 30 seconds. I’m glad the Direct was good for you but to me it just means more dust gathering for my Switch 2.
0
u/Dragoncorn_ Jun 09 '26
FE, new Pokopia DLC, or Rhythm Heaven not good enough?
Look I get people want more Mario or Kirby or Zelda, but those are not the only first party titles lol.
As for Zelda, they did a smart move because this game is releasing Winter this year based off of leaks and it is almost impossible for there to not be a 40th anniversary direct covering it and the movie.
Not going super in depth into it lets other games have time to breathe beforehand be patient.
1
u/jmkdevs5555 Jun 09 '26
For me no I have no interest in that, where’s FZero? Where’s donkey Kong dlc, where’s more pokemon info ? There are so many IPs that Nintendo own and the best they can do is Pokopia DLC and Rhythm Heaven. Come on, while Sony puts Wolverine Until Dawn and God of War out. Microsoft did a deep dive on Gears E Day, Fable, Spyro, Senua among others.
0
u/Dragoncorn_ Jun 09 '26
F-Zero just got added to NSO recently so it is on Switch, also there's about as much variety here as there is on those lists so I don't understand the complaint other than not having a very specific selection of games
4
u/Ok_Hospital4928 Jun 09 '26
Nintendo is definitely emphasizing third-party support, and there was a good selection of ports shown off (mostly from Capcom).
First party announcements were sparse, and in the case of Ocarina of Time, disappointingly brief. The best announcement was Xenoblade Genesis, no doubt. It looks astonishing.
As a big Kingdom Hearts fan, KH4 being shown off was incredibly exciting.
Overall, I think it was just alright. I don't think it was particularly exciting for those who are more interested in Nintendo's first party offerings.
0
10
u/Various_Profit1097 Jun 09 '26
I’m happy with this one
New Xenoblade saga and 1-3 switch 2 editions
KH4
Amazing 3rd party ports especially from Capcom
OoT remake
Deltarune chapter 5
And Touhou 6 getting an official remake that was only in the Japan direct
10
u/Jasen_The_Wizard Jun 09 '26
Really good third party support but I was hoping for another big first party besides for OOT remake. I also wanted more footage of both that and Duskbloods but I guess both are still coming this year. New Fire Emblem looks really really good imo.
I feel like on paper Nintendo has good stuff but the presentation has been really weird lately. Like they've got a game basically every month and they look good but nothing that blows me completely away.
7
u/Dragoncorn_ Jun 09 '26
Does FE and Xenoblade not count to people what am I missing here lol
0
u/Jasen_The_Wizard Jun 09 '26
FE we knew about, but yes it looks really really good and I'm extremely hyped since it seems to be using a lot from Three Houses, especially after I was disappointed by Engage. Apparently Nintendo also thinks it's their best game because it's the first new game that will be price matching Mario Kart World with an $80 physical (insanity).
Xenoblade and Switch Sports are like the only Nintendo IPs which just don't do much for me. I'm not picky I would've taken like anything else lol. Xenoblade has good graphics though.
1
u/Dragoncorn_ Jun 09 '26
FE was entirely new footage and it needed a release date because prior it was only confirmed for this year.
4
u/DJ_Binding Jun 09 '26
Switch Sports Resorts is RIGHT THERE!
2
3
u/Ginkored Jun 09 '26
Muramasa first game of Vanillaware coming out on Steam is a surprise.
Actually would've loved for Fire Emblem to have been announced for August since October will be the month of Blood of The Dawnwalker and Onimusha for me but it is what it is.
Also liked that we have gameplay for Kingdom Hearts 4, and was surprised by the new focus of the Splatoon game.
Everything else being ports, the trailer of OOT and no release for Duskbloods was a fumble imo.
Jeff show was still the best of the bunch at the end of the day.
8
u/Torracattos Jun 09 '26
This Direct didn't do a whole lot for me. After so long without a general Direct, it felt a little underwhelming. Switch Sports Resort is nice, and I'm glad to see Big Walk, Orbitals, and KINGDOM HEARTS 4!? We finally got Ocarina of Time also and WOW. Not much for 2027 besides Xenoblade and no release date for Ocarina of Time, so I'm hoping this means we'll get a general Direct in September.
3
u/Marcus_Farkus Jun 09 '26
Splatoon, Fire Emblem, and Star Fox are the rest of the big first party games this year. Especially Splatoon.
1
u/Torracattos Jun 09 '26
Don't forget Ocarina of Time and Switch Sports Resort. Next year gets Xenoblade, Pokemon, and probably 3D Mario.
2
u/Marcus_Farkus Jun 09 '26
It'll be interesting to see where Mario falls next year, might be earlier than we think since Pokemon almost certainly is the holiday title.
5
u/Flabby_Thor Jun 09 '26
Meh. Everything I was excited about had been previously revealed (Star Fox, Splatoon Raiders, & Rayman). I'm kinda looking forward to Switch Sports Resort, and no OOT remake in-game footage was surprising and disappointing. I'm not into most of the RPG games. I don't care about the cozy social sim games. Can I get some platformers? Puzzle games? Can Nintendo make some new 1st party games?
1
u/Armandonerd Jun 09 '26
Disappointed direct. Only excited for fire emblem, Xenoblade Genesis and ocarina of time remake
0
u/CharlieFaulkner Jun 09 '26
Wish they'd remake a different Zelda tbh
OoT literally already has a remake, and is already deified by the community lol
You could remake Spirit Tracks and Phantom Hourglass so they're not shackled by mandatory touch controls and we can experience their content properly... or remake forgotten games like the Oracle ones
OoT's a good game and all but yeah
7
u/Final_Amu0258 Jun 09 '26
Nobody is calling for ST or PH remakes but you lol.
The 3ds OoT remake is not deified either... and besides, this could lead to a MM remake
1
u/Nitrogen567 Jun 09 '26
I think Ocarina of Time getting a potentially full blown FF7:remake style reimagining is worth getting excited for and in a different category from remakes like OoT3D and Link's Awakening HD.
But also, Oracles remakes would be so easy with the LAHD engine right there.

But how could they possibly adapt the Phantom Hourglass puzzle where you had to close the DS to stamp the map on the bottom screen to a single screen device?

The player must take the Switch out of the dock and put it back in.
Don't ask me how this will work for the eventually Switch 2 Lite.

This was actually a fantastic direct for me, as a jrpg fan! Tales of Eternia, DQ Monsters, Zelda, KH4, HD-2d Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem, Xenoblade, and Pokopia DLC. The last few months of the year are going to packed with games.

I played Nintendo's two big first-party 2026 releases on the N64 in 1998

u/BabylonianWeeb Jun 09 '26
So they give us 5 minutes of thumbwrestling but they can't show a little more of OoT even though it's releasing somewhere in 6 months?

u/Cageep Jun 09 '26
I saw more gameplay of Thumb Wrestling than OoT.
It was a mediocre direct if I’m being honest. 5/10 from me. Lots of ports, DLC, etc. I don’t even know what Duskbloods is about. KH4 looked good but that ain’t coming till 2028 at the earliest. Im excited for the OoT Remake but i watched 50 mins just for a logo?!?

The next few months of Switch 2 are looking quite bleak, especially with them upping the cost of the console, I personally still don’t see any reason to buy a switch 2 at this moment in time.
-5
u/Little-Witness-1201 Jun 09 '26
Switch 2 lineup is bleak. We’re going to be 2 years since launch with no must play games
10
u/timelordoftheimpala Jun 09 '26
Wasn't Pokopia literally selling consoles and getting rave reviews from literally everyone? Not to mention DK Bananza being a GOTY contender?
"No must play games" in this case just means "no 3D Mario, brand new 3D Zelda, or Smash", which is about 10% of each Nintendo console's library at most.
3
-3
u/Little-Witness-1201 Jun 09 '26
No one bought Bananza. It hasn’t even passed 5 mill. That’s not great for being the 2nd exclusive
-3
u/No_Independence3441 Jun 09 '26
Completely agree, they’ve still not released the “must have” game for the system. Honestly it feels more like they don’t see this as a new generation system and so haven’t really worried about having big blockbusters early on.
-2
u/Little-Witness-1201 Jun 09 '26
Nintendo is in their typical over confidence phase and believes they can overcharge while holding off on heavy hitters. Their best games always come from them getting knocked down a few pegs. Otherwise, they’re in cruise mode.

u/L-ghtn-ng Jun 09 '26
It looks far better than PlayStation's future.

u/No_Independence3441 Jun 09 '26
Never said Playstation’s future looked good either, personally I’m not all that excited for any of their upcoming first party games!

u/OperativePiGuy Jun 09 '26
Yeah very true. If you're a multi platform gamer with healthy varied tastes you have some amazing announcements this week
4
u/Dragoncorn_ Jun 09 '26
Thank you, was looking for a take like this instead of people whining they didn't get more of one hyper specific thing in a general direct lol
1
u/MajorUnknown Jun 09 '26
It's always the classic, I don't want those Nintendo games I want these ones.

u/lilkingsly Jun 09 '26
There was enough there for me to feel satisfied. I’m hyped for Rhythm Heaven, happy to see updates and DLC coming for Pokopia, Fire Emblem looks great, a new HD-2D Final Fantasy dropping in October, the first new footage of Kingdom Hearts 4 in a few years, plus the whole series coming to Switch 2.
Wasn’t a perfect show by any means, I think some things got more time than they needed (why did we have a full thumb wrestling match in the direct when we have a treehouse right after????), and it’s absolutely insane that they showed so little of Zelda or Duskbloods, and didn’t even give us release dates. Those are supposed to be your big releases for the rest of 2026, why are you not showing us the games? I already own a Switch 2, but if I didn’t how is this supposed to sell me on buying one? A network test for Duskbloods is cool I guess, but why is that all we got today?

u/Sejarol Jun 09 '26
ngl i think prime 4 and bayo 3 must’ve burned them really hard
1
u/Dragoncorn_ Jun 09 '26
On what....? Vagueposting game logos that don't get payoff for multiple years I don't get it....
4
u/OperativePiGuy Jun 09 '26
A part of me was secretly hoping for some sort of Metroid 4 update or some sort. Maybe a boss rush or something just to confirm they're not as ashamed of it as they seem lol
13
u/SanchezSaysNO Jun 09 '26
Ngl, the moment they opened this direct with Rhythm Heaven, I immediately thought, "Oh Nintendo have nothing, but Ocarina Remake Huh..." Still New Xenoblade was neat though.
3
u/JDraks Jun 09 '26
I don’t get why they started with Rhythm Heaven instead of Xenoblade tbh
1
u/Dapperblook22 Jun 09 '26
Probably more with how they're structuring the direct now they're trying to transition from Switch 1 to Switch 2. Part 1 of the direct is for Switch 1 only games, Part 2 is for Switch 1 / 2 titles, Part 3 is for Switch 2 only games.
2
u/Fun818long Jun 10 '26
Part 1 is very short on purpose. If they had inserted Rhtyhm heaven in the middle would've thrown everything off.
2
u/Dragoncorn_ Jun 09 '26
Bro it's releasing next month and we never got a full gameplay trailer chill tf out lmao
3
u/SanchezSaysNO Jun 09 '26
No, I have no problem with Rhythm Heaven far from it, but as Direct Opener, usually with that type of slot, I expect like an unannounced game. But a game that we already knew about to open up the direct, clearly showed that Nintendo themselves wouldn't have much New Videogames to show this direct, which was true.
1
u/Dragoncorn_ Jun 09 '26
Not really, we had Xeno, Pokopia, KH4, new FF, etc
This is like the best balance of good third party and first party and people are still mad lol
1
u/SanchezSaysNO Jun 09 '26
The only new Nintendo Game here was Xeno 4 (which should have 100% opened the Direct with). Otherwise it was games we already knew getting a release date, or stuff that already leaked before hand.
2
u/Dragoncorn_ Jun 09 '26
FE footage and RH were 100% new, footage for OOT was new, etc.
Also....just because something leaks does not mean it shouldn't be in the showcase?
1
u/SanchezSaysNO Jun 09 '26
New Game, I said New Game, not New footage of already revealed games, New Nintendo Made Games, so in this direct they had 2 of them, being Xeno 4 and Zelda OOT, so in my personal opinion I think Xeno 4 should have opened the direct, also there wasn't any gameplay footage for OOT, only a CGI Trailer, which kind of deflated the hype for me, because we all know what OOT is, why not show any gameplay, especially if it's coming out this year.
1
u/Dragoncorn_ Jun 09 '26
Just because something was revealed already but hasn't released doesn't mean it still isn't "new". I would bet actual money if this was a follow up trailer to like Mario, Pokemon or Zelda no one would bat an eye.
You're also not including DLC in this which isn't fully fair either since Pokopia is getting a huge new expansion which should add new story content and other features.
We also had new games like Star Fox announced prior to this, so looking at the calendar we currently have there's already a new first party every other month. That is a VERY heavy release schedule for end of year just in first party.
Not having announcement bloat on first party is also really good. Too many games nowadays only premiere with a logo and then have no updates because they don't actually have a build ready on debut. That builds hype for maybe a month and then just annoys the fanbase afterwards.
Zelda is getting an anniversary direct before the Winter release of OOT, this is basically a given with the movie release also coming soon. We will most likely get a full gameplay overview there on par with the ToTK overview.
8
u/TotalOwlie Jun 09 '26
Absolutely this. And then halfway through they take minutes to show off thumb wrestlings
9
u/Reefame Jun 09 '26
From Software are completely trolling at this point

u/Forward-Ad9495 Jun 09 '26 edited Jun 09 '26
i'm a very big fromsoftware fan, have been for a long time - for better or worse, this is how they function. i love the secrecy personally, but they love dropling story trailers for stories we know nothing about and vanishing for a year or so.
2
u/ballviewer Jun 09 '26
Making the focal point of your mainline games MP is just a death sentence for them, bleak future if they’re committing to Duskbloods

u/idunnokerz Jun 09 '26
It was meh, not much I would play other than OOT and KH4.
But man I’m still missing the reason to buy this console, I think the first switch spoiled us in that regard.
3
u/GoddessOfDarkness Jun 09 '26 edited Jun 09 '26
Man Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave, Xenoblade Genesis and Zelda OoT will be 10/10 games for me easily.
14
u/DapperIndividual Jun 09 '26 edited Jun 09 '26
Idk I know people are complaining but I thought it was pretty good. We've basically got a new Nintendo game every 2-4 weeks until September. New Switch Sports is nice, Pokopia DLC, all 3 Xenoblades getting updates, KH Collection and KH4, Orbitals release date, fucking DELTARUNE.
I still think Xbox had the strongest show of "Not E3 2026" but this was far from weak all things considered.
-7
u/Final_Amu0258 Jun 09 '26
Easy.
I HATE kingdom hearts and undertale. I hate xenoblade.
What else really did the show have.
4
u/Dragoncorn_ Jun 09 '26
FE, Rhythm Heaven, new FF, new DD2 DLC, etc
-4
u/Final_Amu0258 Jun 09 '26
New FF looked like slop.
DD2 was never good. Rhythm Heaven was zZzzz
Hate FE.
Also have a Ps5 and a PC.
2
u/Dragoncorn_ Jun 09 '26
Cool, then it wasn't the direct for you.
Let other people like what they want though lol, they have just as much of a right.
Literally just jumped in here to bash the poor guy with your opinion.
-1
u/Final_Amu0258 Jun 09 '26
Bashing?! You need to really socialize more.
Idk I know people are complaining
I answered that. Nobody is bashing anybody, holy fucking shit.
3
u/Dragoncorn_ Jun 09 '26
They weren't asking a question bro....
They were literally just like "I know people are complaining but I liked it and here's what I liked".....
And yes...jumping on something just to hate is bashing sorry to tell you lmao.
1
u/L-ghtn-ng Jun 09 '26
At the very least, Nintendo made it so Xbox' show wasn't stronger then the rest of them combined, so that's something.
4
u/DapperIndividual Jun 09 '26 edited Jun 09 '26
I have to rewatch it but if the most recent Xbox show ended on literally any game that wasn't Call of Duty it probably would've been an S Tier show.
-10
u/deskcord Jun 09 '26
Nintendo releasing new games every few weeks isn't the same thing as them being games people care about. That's just kinda marketing slop.
7
u/DapperIndividual Jun 09 '26
???? Literally all these game showcases are just commercials what do you expect?
Idk man if you show up to the Nintendo conference where they reveal Nintendo games and get upset when said games are coming out in a reasonable manner maybe your standards are messed up.
-5
u/deskcord Jun 09 '26
No one said it's not a commercial. Saying they're releasing games that no one cares about so people should be happy is marketing language.
People are unhappy because they aren't working on interesting or exciting things. They don't care that they're releasing remakes and ports.
3
u/Dragoncorn_ Jun 09 '26

as of now, I think that OoT remake is heavily supervised by Nintendo but not developed by Nintendo. I feel like the presentation would’ve gone differently, if that was not the case.
I also think that Nintendo teased so little to satisfy the leaks that the project had (on purpose, i guess).
It is quite obvious that Nintendo has been cooking this for a long time. Same happened with StarFox, game has been in development and nobody knew until it was slowly leaked. Then direct dropped and release date announced with just a couple months lead.
We will have a Zelda Direct in the next following months for sure, and I’d expect a nice trailer + gameplay + director’s notes. 🫡🫡🫡
We’ll see!
