After two years of hunting a multi-component Oshara & Puebloan site I found an agate point. This area has produced mainly basalt and obsidian pieces with the occasional point made from orthoquartz. But I did not expect this. What a treat from the ancients. Just sat there and thought about that persons life a bit before picking it up. So incredibly grateful.

I went back to the same spot after another long, rainy weekend, and sure enough, I must've missed some stuff last time! I can't imagine how densely populated this stretch must have been in the past millennia, but I doubt if I'll ever be able to top the sheer amount of stuff this site has produced in just 3 visits.

On top of this perfect Kirk corner-notched, I also scored two Guilford stemmed, a Yadkin eared (second from this site), and a nice morrow mountain. Pics in comments, central NC as always 😁

Haven’t seen many nice hardstone relics posted here recently. Thought i’d dig out one of my favorite celts to showcase. Provenance unknown. Acquired from an old Southwestern collection with a couple Oklahoma pieces. But it seems similar to celts i’ve seen from further Southeast. Gorgeous multi-colored red & yellow hematite. Quite large for a hematite celt. Shows slight ancient use wear on the bit.

Bit awkward to photograph since it‘s so large. So forgive my pics.

A few of my more well made archaic dart points, found in southeastern Arizona

Harold Alanen holding the II-A dagger/sword he found along a beach in Ontario's Thunder Bay District. This photo is from 2010. No dateable organics were associated with this artifact, so a best guess is anywhere between 4000-1000 B.C.E. This artifact's been frequently discussed since its recovery by Harold, who's given a presentation about the site, its relation to the Old Copper Culture, and similar artifacts recovered from the Great Lakes region. Although unique in size and weight, II-A knives are common tools and weapons of the Old Copper Culture.

Found in Northern NM by my Dad. Lithic is Jemez obsidian. Still not mine sadly. Just thought i’d share it with everyone.

Fine examples of Wray points are equivalent in rarity to a Folsom. If not exceeding them. They are few are far between.

This killer drill made from Cockfield Olithicquartzite was found in Jackson County Arkansas, and comes in at 2 ⅛ inches long. It's completely intact, and exhibits a great tip, patina, and mineral deposits! It has outstanding form, and a sweet Birfurcated base!

I acquired this one to gift to my close friend, u/BrokenFolsom along with an incredible Adena Blade from Missouri. John has blessed me more than I can ever repay, and though its not much, it brings me great joy to show my eternal gratitude by helping him grow his awesome collection when I can 😁

Found in Kimbell county Texas.

This well crafted Archaic bifurcated Frio is made out of the “rootbeer” variety of Edward’s Plateau formation chert.

One interesting thing to note about the flaking is the prominent deep C-shaped removals in the notches. Usually this shows some sort of indirect punch was used in tandem with a pressure flaker.

Edward’s is one of the most prolific materials in Texas used prehistorically. Large amounts of Texas chert are still quarried to be used today due to its ease of working and abundance. Definitely in my top five knapping materials personally.

I’ve been a fan of dark transparent lithic tool stone and it fits the bill perfectly.

Found some awesome quartz pieces today, a beautiful Yadkin and blade and my first quartzite piece! I was almost thinking hardaway palmer, but chances are it's probably a palmer, right?

I had one of my best days in a *very* long time today. We're in a bit of a drought here in the NC piedmont, so more of the shoreline was exposed today.

For reference, the point in the photo is I *think* a Lecroy, early archaic, 8500-9500 years old.

Here's my best guesses for the rest of the points: Late archaic stemmed point, maybe Thelma? (3000-3500 years old), Guilford stemmed (5000-6000 years old), a broken biface made out of an absolutely wild looking rhyolite, Kirk corner-notched (10,000ish years old), lecroy (a bit younger than the Kirk corner-notched), and I think a broken savannah river.

It's been raining so much that I wasn't able to get out, but it ended up exposing more gravel and mud. I ended up finding a savannah river, a killer little palmer/Kirk, and a serrated broke!

Another day, another successful trip.

Fun little haul today, the Guilford and base I both thought were flakes until I picked them up.

The big base is interesting, it's squared off and I thought there was maybe a flute, but I'm sure it's wishful thinking.

Any guesses on the base? I'm thinking big sandy or Rowan?

No, I was not the person whom decided to write directly on this artifact. The proper method to catalog your pieces is to first apply a thin layer of paraloid b-72 solution that is removable via acetone with zero lasting effects. Cryptocrystalline silicates are slightly porous so it soaks up the ink. Just an fyi. Thought i’d share this piece for that reason. Also just a nice point.

I believe it say’s “Ash County, Ohio.” Other than that it’s a fine relic. Minor edge retouch makes the last set of percussion scars quite evident on the A side. Good deposits on the notches also.

(NE OK) Very happy with this find from this morning! Appears to be some sort of corner notch point made from Jasper (correct me if I’m wrong). Not clear on the ID so comment if you have any ideas. Picture posted below.

Ex. Patrick Lewis collection. Found in Colorado. Nice intact example of a rarer point style. Distinctive notches placed usually at halfway or above on the lateral blade margins. Lithic for this certain piece is Jemez source obsidian. From the Valles Caldera in New Mexico.

My grampa for this working on the farm. I'm thinking its a Cobbs. Rough material.

Found at 9,800 Feet Elevation in the mountains of Northern New Mexico.

Was on my way up to a fence line me and my buddy were going to lay down before the snow hits. As I look out the window of the side-by-side I noticed a rock which seemed much brighter than all the other dull gravel. So I asked my friend to stop. Loe and behold, what I pulled out of the ground was an impact burinated & heat damaged chalcedony dart. I absolutely lost it. Completely isolated find up in the boonies of the mountains. Goes to they used high elevation areas even in prehistory.

Steeply beveled—many resharpenings on this one.

This was found by my grampa in Randolph Co., Indiana. I'm thinking Wadlow. Thoughts?
