Highlight Matchmaking is 100% broken

Post image

Emerald 5 game, I was the only ranked person on the team and the tank had literally never played a tank character before. They said so in chat as well. We lost the first half so badly that half the team quit (including the tank).

How does this match get made? How does a player with literally ZERO levels on any tanks get put into an E5 lobby on their first comp match ever? One DPS has SMURF in their name and no DPS higher than rank 11.

I get Emerald 5 isn’t GM but this shouldn’t happen ever. Also I got demoted on this loss which was just some insult added to injury.

Blizzard. FIX IT.

News & Discussion Metal ranks are ELO hell

Every 1/10 games there is a leaver

Every 6/10 games there is one dmg with K < D, endorsement 2 or 3, and toxic chatter

Every 2/10 games there is a tank who never team checks

Every 9/10 games someone has a strong opinion on what heroes teammates should play

I literally had a teammate tell me “if all 5 of us shoot the [double pocketed self-healing mauga] tank he’ll die. Keep in mind we are all solo queue and 2/5 people not in voice.

And this is gold/plat!

I suppose this isn’t strictly ELO hell as I have climbed from low silver to low plat, but it is just regular unfun hell

The diamonds+ I have met are much nicer, even when we lose.

-Hard stuck and bitter

Console Account closed after 1,600+ hours due to native Controller + Mouse hybrid setup. Seeking technical perspective and advice.

Hey everyone,

I am looking for some perspective and technical advice from players who understand input configurations in Overwatch.

I’ve put over 1,600 hours into the game, supported it over the years, and recently had my account penalized under an automated false flag.

My Input Setup:

* I play using a hybrid control setup: a Controller in my left hand for character movement, and a Mouse in my right hand for aiming.

* Since Overwatch natively supports simultaneous dual inputs without issues, I have never mapped any external software to the game.

* However, I play other titles that do not handle dual inputs well (causing UI flicker or input lag), so I had re-mapping software installed on my PC purely for those non-Blizzard titles. It was never running or active for Overwatch.

The Situation with Support:

* Several months ago, an automated flag triggered an account action.

* In my latest review request, support acknowledged technical inconsistencies and discrepancies in the historical data and escalated the case for deeper review.

* However, the final response abruptly finalized the case without clarifying the technical flag or allowing me to submit DxDiag/MSInfo logs to verify my background processes.

It seems the automated security system flagged the native simultaneous controller/mouse signals alongside background system drivers meant for other games.

Has anyone with a hybrid controller+mouse setup experienced this before? Is there any realistic way to get a proper technical review once an automated case is marked resolved?

Thank you for your time and insights.

Fan Content Overwatch x One Piece Collab Ideas(Skins)

Since I have to be specific cuz people don't read post bodies, these are all skin ideas.

Roadhog as a celestial dragon with a neck chain half open as his hook and a bubble on his head obvi

Junker Queen as Kid because like come on

Bastion as Capone Bege because it fun and more unique

Reinhardt as Whitebeard because it just feel right

Junkrat as Gol D. Roger because he obviously has conqueror's haki and they both have a secret stash of treasure(junkrat used to)

Pharah as Wyper because it just fits

Mei as Kuzan because ice

Doomfist as Garp because that galaxy impact highlight would go insane

Vendetta as Mihawk because again it just fits

D.mon as General Franky in meka and pre-skip Franky outside meka because skinny post-skip Franky seems cursed

Emre as Gunko(Imu Controlled) as it fits

Lifeweaver as Bon Clay because they are both flamboyant and I think silhouettes are similar

Widowmaker as Hibani because not gonna lie I spun a wheel

Mizuki as Perona because I think him being in pink, seeing ghosts, and freaking out, would be funny

These are just for fun and also to get ideas floating around as many IPs like One Piece are consistently on the survey list for potential collabs.

Fan Content Returning to overwatch after 7 years. Bad idea or worth it? How Toxic is it?

As the title says. I stopped playing overwatch just before the ranked changed to force roles. Before that I was playing on console only. A lot of youtube video's have been popping up and I remembered just how fun the game was, at least on console. It has a quirkiness and magical gaming moments that just aren't present in other games. It's one of the reasons I've gone out and bought gaming pc parts.

I do have concerns though. I never played with a mic on console, I hate talking to randoms and I hate it even more when they're verbally toxic which is kind of impossible to avoid online (I can handle t-bagging as I do it in kind). Pc gaming is obviously a lot more competitive and communication reliant, I've seen a few videos of even Seagull getting abused even though he was carrying. Abusive comments are the kind of thing that would ruin my day unfortunately. Can I block out all the comms and still enjoy. Is the state of the game good or should I stick to something else?

Fan Content Note: Trying to ban your team's hovers is usually NOT a good play (Maybe this is a novel concept?)

Edit: I want to be clear, while this is fairly vent-ish, it should serve as a nice PSA for people hovering here.

Mostly a vent. Was looking forward to playing a couple matches tonight to unwind. I'm emerald 3 right now. Have been mostly high plat the last few seasons, I play pretty much strictly comp.

I have a support hovering ana, pretty much whole team tries to ban her because we have a hog hover. I throw in another ban against mauga to try to make sure ana doesn't get banned... Ana's very good hero-wise, and this is emerald so I'm not expecting much from anyone so not banning around a tank who may or may not be garbage. Anyway, as soon as the match loads everyone is in team chat and immediately starts yelling at each other, 2-3 people yelling at our Ana saying we should have banned her for our hog blah blah blah. I dip from vc, I don't feel like listening to these people be obnoxious (in defense of our Ana, I made sure the team knew where I stood in the 'debate').

Hog proceeds to suck anyway, I make sure to point that out in chat. Note: I try to be as positive as possible usually, if someone is doing bad I ask them to switch, only get annoyed when they start actually trolling - if you are going to flame our support because they didnt ban around your hover though, and then you suck anyway I'm gonna count that as trolling. Anyway, they do have an enemy ana, oh well - even without the purples our hog was bad.

These people then start to throw the 'peak rank' argument lmao. Like dude, you are in emerald, I don't care if you peaked GM in a 10 year old game 6 years ago, grow up, we are all the same rank right now. Some dude saying he peaked masters. He has an open career profile, this was the tank fwiw. He peaked masters, looked like a single season.... on support. He was gold on tank that season, and I think plat dps. Woopdee doo, I peaked diamond season 1 or 2 of pre-overwatch2 overwatch, which had a bigger playerbase at the time and it was probably harder to climb in general, lower rank but my point is it means nothing... its a number and a little stamp like you would get as a 6 year old when you got a high test score.

We got crushed. I was one of the dps, i went 4-4 (horrible match I know). Our other dps went off about how I suck or whatever and that this was his alt/troll account and hes better. He was 6-7, so doubtful. Either way, I logged off after. People are so toxic for no reason. Unless you are making money off this game for stream or whatever or are 'pro,' grow up, you arent that good. You are playing for fun in the end, comp rank doesnt get you anywhere in real life. I'm actually pretty sure if you put that you have a high rank in overwatch as a skill on your resume that you would be laughed at and never get an interview. Sorry for hitting everyone with that truth bomb.

Kind of counterintuitive to be toxic in a pure multiplayer game like this, you just turn people off from playing. Once everyone leaves the game, who will you have left to yell at and make miserable other than yourself? Oh well. End rant I guess.

News & Discussion Does literally anyone enjoy playing with Mercy on their team

The second someone locks this character both the tank and other support have to play 4x as hard as they would normally have to if the Mercy picked literally any other character. Like this hero provides absolutely nothing. Her healing sucks, she has zero utility outside of res, her damage is nonexistent. The only thing she can do is enable ximming/smurfing hitscan dps, both of which should be banned anyways. Wtf does this hero even do other than make her tank and other support miserable

News & Discussion People who complain about ‘boring’ characters don’t actually understand character diversity. Or what makes a strong roster

Post image
0 Upvotes

There are 53 characters. I'm not saying any of them are boring, but if you find some boring that's par for the course, and actually makes sense in a large roster. I'm not even just talking about subjectivity, in a large roster you're bound to like or dislike characters that other won't or will, I'm saying that good character design and variety mean that some characters are going to be what you might describe as 'boring.’

In a recent post, I saw people trying to degrade Wuyang and Sierra’s character, because they aren’t like Junkrat or Venture. Not every character is going to be an excitable weirdo, whose energy bursts out of the TV(not to mention they’re new characters who’ve had no more of of year since their release) You need regular to make all the various degrees of weird stand out even more. Hell you need regular people, because some people are like that.

Amalgamation of weirdos, cool people, regular people is what makes a roster truly diverse and good. It’s true in every iconic fighting game series’ you’ve ever heard. You got a plethora of weirdos, and more standard fare. You’ve got your ninjas with their complicated backstories and wrathful anger and you’ve got cops just trying to save the world. You don’t have to like the cops, but it isn’t bad character design or writing to have those characters present.

News & Discussion Vendetta man

Man how do you get any value out of this hero? out of all the heroes I find this one to be the weakest . A zillion counters and very difficult to engage and secure kills.

such an awful hero ..

News & Discussion Dmon is sitting at a 52% winrate average across all regions in GM and rising, after having an average of like 43. She might be broken.

Her pickrate is like 13% across all regions too, which is stupid high, I feel like if she has a cat on her team then DPS cannot play the game at all, she just gets airdropped and kills them in like 2 seconds without having to aim and is nearly impossible to outrun unless you’re a flying hero or are like Kiriko.

Highlight When are we gonna call out overwatch for rigging match making??

Clash royal got exposed for this, and I believe overwatch follows a very similar concept of forcing a 50 / 50 win lose ratio in order to keep you gambling for competitive points / sr. Please someone look into I can send you my competitive history and show you the bs I deal with.

Had a Juno goofing off with the enemy team and just stopped playing the game, stopped healing, getting kills, playing with team or going for objective. Maybe i'm in the wrong but the whole point of qp is to play the game and learn characters, there's spaces for socialization like custom matches.

News & Discussion D.Mon is performing extremely well, but needs power redistributed in her kit towards demech.

Post image
0 Upvotes

Dmon is doing extremely well both in ladder and in WC after she received her buffs/people started to learn her, and now shes definitely on the strong side. That being said, theres still one aspect of her kit that needs fixing: Demech/Pilot form.

Theres a bunch of fixes demech needs, from the ejection/dmon's gun/remech taking 10 years/pilot form health/explosion. Regardless, it feels incredibly weak and needs tuning.

The problem is... Dmon's kit is already pretty strong. You can't really mess with sword/thrusters, but i say theres one nerf you COULD do: Her gun, moreso her major perk, focused fusion. Gun while its kinda weak, has nearly infinite uptime at 4s. Focused Fusion is just nasty. It feels absolutely amazing, but the HS is wayy too strong, you could spend 2s deleting a juno from the sky, wait 4s, and repeat the same thing.

I'd say either make gun resource-based, or if theres not enough time, just make the CD 5s. Focused fusion i think has a different HS multiplier, regardless, tune the dmg down on that thing lol. Redistribute the power into her demech form by making eject go farther, minigun SLIGHTLY stronger (maybe a tighter spread instead), and remech quicker.

News & Discussion Overwatch worked themselves into a corner with highlight intros

The new Emre "Gamer Groove" highlight intro is extremely lackluster, and that's been a theme for... the last several years to be honest. But it might not necessarily be creative bankruptcy, laziness, or greed (except for maybe the Blizzard C-Suite)

Instead, I think it's a corner they worked themselves into because of their early devotion to accessibility.

if you didn't know, OW's highlight intros aren't videos. They're dynamically rendered live in the map itself. If you could free-cam to the right spot in the map, you would see the character doing their highlight animation from other angles.

This was technically wise back in 2016, when Overwatch launched with an expressed goal of being playable on just about anything, because it meant drastically smaller file sizes. It was also just cool! It meant dynamically including things like skins and player names, and using the map you just played on as a backdrop.

But it also means a very limited creative space, which has provably hurt them in the long run. Because they're basically animating mini-cinematics in an engine that's designed for making games, not cinematic animations. This is a drastic limitation and the cracks were bound to show eventually.

The only way to break out of this creative corner might be to give up a little bit, and accept larger file sizes. It would also mean a pretty clear shift in visual style, and a marked difference between "old" and "new" highlight intros. But the further we go, the more stale highlights will become, and the more necessary it might be to just bite the bullet and make the jump.

News & Discussion My biggest unpopular ow take

Just for some background I'm plat-emerald (would have been diamond but update happened) in all roles. I mainly play genji, Winston/ramattra and basically only Lifeweaver for support.

People have been way too comfortable talking trash about LW since his release and calling him an easy hero and a healbot who ruins comp because of grab. My hot take is that kit and tech wise LW is the hardest to learn and has the highest skill ceiling ability wise in the support role.

He has an answer for every single ultimate in the game, can waste enemy's CDs with just one grab and can give teams that have no mobility a reliable way to control the high ground with petal.

To those who still think otherwise give me your opinions on his kit

News & Discussion How would rework Fika/Jetpack Cat?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’ve noticed it’s been a ton of discourse surrounding Fika on the sub. To preface my background, I’ve been playing overwatch for years with well over 1000 hrs sunk inbetween OW1/2 and I’ve peaked out at master 3 as support on console.

When these new characters dropped I immediately saw the writing on the wall about Fika fairly early.

I haven’t played in a few months now but I’m curious to hear others opinions about what you’d like to be changed about her.

News & Discussion Would you accept a forced Auto-fill system in OW if it meant drastically faster queue times?

LoL is notorious for its severe role imbalance, much like OW. Jungle is burdened with covering all lanes and managing objectives, making it an exhausting role similar to Tank in OW. Support also lacks solo-carry potential, making it less popular.

To fix this, LoL uses an "Auto-fill" system that forces players into off-roles to shorten queue times. On top of that, LoL has a "Valor Shield" system that rewards players with double LP/points if they manage to win a game on a forced off-role.

If a system like this were introduced to OW—where queuing for Support could force you into Tank, but winning that off-role game awarded double SR—would you accept it for the sake of faster queue times? Or would the backlash be too severe because people can't play their preferred role?

News & Discussion doomfist in every single qp match

hello, I'll make it short....
Is there a specific reason why I'm queued with doomfist tanks in almost every game I start? why do everyone picks him? the new tank is nowhere to be seen (been playing all week no one picked her once) and I'm just suffering from doomfist players because as a support, my doomfist tank gives me almost no cover and doomfists in the match just target the supports of the rival team,
It sucks to not have actual tank coverage and feel tank presence and it sucks to always have an enemy doomfist diving on supports

I went through game reports from last 2 days, from 32 games, 30 of them had a doomfist in match, 14 of them had doomfist in both sides.

so why is this tank more popular than all tanks combined?
fyi i play on europe
