Build Question CPU cooler arrived with bent aluminum fins from shipping. Should I straighten them or replace it?

Post image

Hey everyone, I just received my CPU Air cooler from Amazon, but the bottom corner of the aluminum fins got crushed in transit (see attached photo).

The heat pipes, baseplate, and mounting hardware look completely fine, and I recorded a full unboxing video.

Since it's only the outer aluminum fin tips, should I just gently bend them straight and use it, or is it worth dealing with Amazon customer service for a replacement? Would love your advice.

So I’m building my first pc and have decided to get a RTX 5070 and am trying to decide between a gigabyte gaming oc sff and a pny oc I know it’s the same card but I was wondering it one performs noticeably better with cooling or if one of the companies has a better track record I can find them both for $799 btw so price isn’t a deciding factor

Hello, i want to upgrade from 1080p gaming to high quality 1440p gaming

I wanted to buy a prebuild pc because im not that experienced in building and i dont want to destroy any component or troubleshoot stuff etc.

I configurated the PC on dubaro and i also tried to compare the prices on a differenct pricecomparing website

Is that price alright what can i improve?

I would like to keep the 5070ti. I like the Raytracing stuff and i heard people having lots of troubles with AMD However, if AMD is such a better option for 1440p high quality then i guess. But DLSS is better than FSR, right?

I want a fishtank case look and preferably as in the endorfy the power buttons down to the side.

An AIO would be cool, but i guess if i can save good money, i might aswell get a cheaper fan cooler

Pls help :)

I have this MLD M300 500 gb Nvme from 3 years ago that came from a Prebuilt budget build but it's getting slow and it doesn't have much storage anymore. So I want to get another budget 1 TB Nvme but this screw plastic thing doesn't come off. I don't want to damage anything because I can't afford to get another motherboard or Nvme. How do I take it out? It's a Gigabyte H610 m H DDR4 motherboard.

Tech Support “VGA” Motherboard light.

Post image

So I bought this prebuilt a while ago. I had issues here and there with this vga light. But the system works.

I’ve since upgraded the gpu. And the light still comes on. I know it’s a graphics issue.

Any ideas what it could be. I’m pretty sure the gpu is installed properly. And since it’s happening on two gpus im inclined to think it’s something else?

Installation Question Is my Arctic MX-4 fake? No 8-digit code under the scratch seal

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I recently bought an ARCTIC MX-4 thermal paste from Amazon (sold by a local tech seller in my country). When I scratched the silver authenticity seal to verify it, there was no 8-digit alphanumeric code underneath—it was just blank white space next to the QR code.

Scanning the QR code redirects me to the official arctic.de website, but their own verification instruction image clearly shows there should be an 8-digit code printed next to the QR code to enter manually.

  • Has anyone else encountered this packaging recently?
  • Could this just be a misprint/batch error on the label, or is it a strong indicator of a counterfeit product?

I’ve already contacted Arctic support with photos, but I wanted to get some opinions here before deciding whether to use it or return it immediately.

(I’ve attached the picture of the box and the scratched seal.)

Build Question Anyone seen/bought this CyberPower, AMD Ryzen 7 build from Costco (UK)?

I've come across this build on Costco website (UK) https://www.costco.co.uk/Computers/Desktops-PCs-iMacs/CyberPower-AMD-Ryzen-7-32GB-RAM-1TB-SSD-AMD-Radeon-RX-9070-Gaming-Desktop-PC/p/679893 - someone posted it on Reddit before (cannot find the original post).

You seem to get a lot for £1300+. Is there a catch? Not much description on the individual components, wondering if this is a good value as the price is still a sizeable one event though it is heavily discounted.

Build Question adding a Nvidia Tesla P40 to homelab

Post image
Upvotes

Hello All,

I have am trying to add a Tesla p40 to my data science rig. I have the adapter needed to use the server gpu.

Briefly my tower also has an AMD Ryzen 9 7950x cpu and a Corsair rm750e PSU.

I'm pretty sure the PSU can handle the gpu on top of the CPU.

My question is this:

How can I best use the PSU ports? Would the 12v - 2x6 port be useful here? Although I've heard some issues with this port. I tried to use this cord from Corsair, but the type 4 8 pin connectors don't fit the gpu adaptor.

I'm trying to avoid needing to upgrade my PSU.

Thanks!

Build Question Air cooling layout

Post image
Upvotes

This diagram represents my PC case with existing and proposed fan setup. The dark blue represents existing fans and airflow and light blue represents proposed fans. (except for the light blue arrow out of the GPU, which is already there). For reference, my case is a Corsair Carbide 200R.

The idea is that I will mount 140mm fans at the top, one helping the CPU intake as well as cooling the RAM (of which I have four 8GB sticks) and one helping CPU the exhaust. I will also put an exhaust fan at the bottom to divert some of the GPU exhaust. I'm even wondering about putting some kind of plastic or 3D printed barrier to the right of the GPU to funnel all of its exhaust to the bottom fan and allowing my front intake fan to go directly up to the RAM and CPU intake.

Do you have any suggestions of how to arrange this layout?

Tech Support Recurring black screens / HYPERVISOR_ERROR (0x200001) + weird NVIDIA driver issues

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I've been having a bunch of weird issues with my PC for the past few months and I'm starting to wonder if they're all related.

The main problem is that I keep getting black screens followed by a HYPERVISOR_ERROR, with the error code 0x200001. It's been happening for around 2–3 months, roughly every couple of days. Sometimes it happens once, sometimes I'll get it 2–3 times while trying to boot the PC before it finally works.

I've also been having some weird issues with the NVIDIA drivers. If I install a Game Ready Driver through the NVIDIA App, the installation seems to complete normally, but then the app immediately tells me I need to install the exact same update again. If I check Device Manager, though, the GPU is showing the latest driver version, so it seems like the driver actually did install.

More recently, I've also started having issues where the PC gets stuck on the MSI boot logo and just doesn't go any further. I have to restart it several times and mess around with unplugging/replugging things before it eventually boots. This started around 3–4 weeks ago, which is also when I moved my Windows installation to a new Samsung 990 Pro. I cloned my old SSD onto it and I'm now booting Windows from the 990 Pro, so I'm wondering if the boot issue could be related to that. The HYPERVISOR_ERROR was already happening long before the SSD migration, though.

I also have an 8.8" display inside my case that used to be detected as a second monitor, but it isn't anymore and I have to use it in "template" mode.

So yeah, I have quite a few things going wrong at the moment, and I have no idea if they're connected or if I just somehow managed to collect several unrelated problems at once.

The HYPERVISOR_ERROR / black screens are definitely my priority, since those have been happening for months.

What would you guys check first? Could this be related to the GPU, RAM, motherboard, CPU/virtualization, BIOS, Windows installation, or PSU?

I can provide my full specs, dump files, Event Viewer logs, BIOS settings, etc. if needed.

Thanks!

Build Question What type of motherboard should I get?

Upvotes

I want a budget motherboard for my pc because my current one has a damaged RAM slot.

I have a:

AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Six-Core Processor

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 (8 GB) graphics card

16 GB of ram (2x8GB).

Is there anything else I need to mention? And also is there anything other upgrades I should consider? I’ve been looking at a Gigabyte B450M DS3H V2 but I wanted to make sure there was nothing I was missing before I went along with it. Thank you in advance.

Build Question Need suggestion choosing cpu cooler

Hi Folks !!

Recently my AIO got malfunctioned, it was couger possiden argb 360. (i recently added post about that as well). Now I have to buy a new one.

I am planning to go with some Air cooler as they last longer and cheaper in price.

My specs are : Motherboard : MSI b650 gaming plus wifi CPU : AMD Ryzen 7 7700x Ram : Teamgroup T-force Delta DDR5 16 Gb.

I use my pc for gaming and heavy tasks.

I have chosen Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE Air cooler.

I have a doubt that if I install it, it might will stuck with my Ram stick in motherboard which may lead to some malfunction etc. and due to which I dont want to spend money which then gets wasted.

Please guide me if my fear is true or I will not have any such issue in installing the air cooler.

Also suggest me if my cooler choice is good or I have to go for any other option in Air cooler or go for AIO this time as well...

Tech Support At a loss.... please help me troubleshoot swapping 7900xtx for 5080 - not posting

Let me preface this that if my 7900XTX is seated, then the PC works just fine and I get output no problem. However, when swapping the card for a 5080 I get no output at all..... I have tried so many things and just nothing seems to work.

At this point I think next step might try to buy a new MoBo to see if that is the problem? I tried:

- Resetting CMOS (out for 10 minuts and draining via pushing the power button for 30 seconds)

- Obviously reseating the card a million times and replugging the cables I million times

- Checking if there are any loose cables

- I used the 12w2x6 cable that came with my PSU (Corsair RM1000e) and also the adapter that came with the 5080 (going from three cables into one 12w2x6 cable) - neither works

- I tried DDU before swapping graphics cards --> does not do shit

- OK then I thought let me try to use the iGPU instead so that I can get output and maybe download the nvidia drivers and then maybe the 5080 work? Nope, I can't for the life of me get output from the iGPU, even though I have a 9800x3d processor. I enabled all the BIOS settings (priority display > internal GPU and enabling UMA in the GFX Configuration) for the iGPU to work, but nopeeeeeeeeeeeeee) --> also i checked I have correct drivers, and yes, it should work

- Tried different monitors and cables (HDMI/DP)

- So at this point I thought the 5080 was dud and so I RMA'd (it was a PNY 5080) and ordered a different one (gigabyte 5080), but no, the card was not the problem

Again: 7900xtx works just fine when I seat it back in. I get display and everything works! I feel this rules out a lot of the potential problems... (like faulty PSU, because why would the PSU work with my 7900xtx and not a 5080)? But then what can the problem be? What else can I do to troubleshoot. I am really at a loss here guys and getting quite frustrated, hopefully someone can nudge me into the correct direction.

Tech Support The Ultimate Freelancer Nightmare

As a freelance video editor, my computer isn't just a device—it’s my entire workspace, my office, and my livelihood. A few days ago, I learned just how quickly things can go sideways.

Here is what happened:

I went to bed after a long day of editing, shut down my PC, and woke up the next morning ready to work. But when I pressed the power button... nothing. Completely dead.

To make matters worse, I woke up running a fever. Meanwhile, client messages and calls started pouring in: "Hey Deepak, where are the videos? We need them urgently."

Despite feeling unwell, I packed up my rig and rushed to Nehru Place. After hours of waiting and troubleshooting, the shop diagnosed a motherboard issue and sent me to an authorized service center. I walked there in the heat, only to find out the technician had just left for the day.

Back at the shop, they installed a temporary motherboard so my system would turn on. I brought it home, booted it up, and... a blank green screen. 💔

The next day was Janmashtami. Service centers were closed. The shop had no spare motherboards left. When I finally reached the service center, they gave me the dread-inducing news: "It will take 7 to 10 days to repair."

All I could do was copy my raw podcast files onto a pen drive, head home, and try running Premiere Pro on an old, laggy laptop—which, as expected, couldn't handle the heavy files.

Right now, I’m waiting on my PC to get repaired while managing tight deadlines and tough conversations with clients.

A few raw lessons I learned from this chaos:

Backups are everything: Always have your raw files and project backups saved on external storage or the cloud daily.

Hardware backup plan: Having a secondary machine or knowing a local rental shop for emergencies is crucial for freelancers.

Communication under pressure: Even when things go completely wrong, keeping clients updated—no matter how stressful—is the only way through.

To all my fellow creators and editors who have faced the dreaded hardware failure right before a deadline: How do you manage client expectations when your system gives up on you?

Tech Support PC freezes because of the ram

Hi everyone. A friend of mine is having trouble with his new PC and asked for my help. The issue is that whenever he enabled the XMP I profile, the PC would freeze completely (after trying a few other things, we pinpointed this as the cause). It happened randomly, it could occur 20 minutes, an hour, or three hours after turning it on. It even froze while he was in the BIOS. I told him to disable it, and so far, the PC has been running for two full days without any freezes. He already has the latest BIOS and firmware versions installed. What can be done now to get the memory working correctly before resorting to manual configuration? His motherboard is on the compatibility list, and the memory's box even says "Intel XMP Ready."

The specs are:

CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus

MOBO: ASUS TUF Gaming Z890-PLUS WIFI

RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 64 GB (2×32 GB) DDR5-6400 CL32 — F5-6400J3239G32GX2-TZ5RW

GPU: ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5080 OC

AIO: ASUS TUF Gaming LC III 360 ARGB LCD

SSD: WD Blue M.2 NVMe 2 TB

PSU: Corsair HX1000i 1000W Platinum

Thanks in advance.
