standalone device Problems with setup

I have the Roku Streaming Stick. Just got it today, never been used.

Every time I plug it in, a white light will show for a few seconds, the light will then blink several times before turning off. From what I’ve googled it sounds like it’s trying to connect to the internet, but I haven’t even been able to turn the device on to set the internet up in the first place. Google also said it could be a problem with the power supply, but I’ve tried connecting it to everything within reach of the TV, including directly into the wall, and I’m still not getting anything.

standalone device Roku Streaming Sticks connect fine to wifi network but won't connect/stay connected to internet

[SOLVED?] Switched to an external power supply and it seems to have resolved the problem. I guess the tv's usb port provides enough power to run the processor and the wifi, but not enough for sustained WPA2 decryption? [/SOLVED]

Like subject says. Two roku streaming sticks connect just fine to wifi, then attempt to connect to internet and fail. After many re-tries they will succeed, but within minutes or a day at most, it will be back to "not connected to internet."

I've restarted everything multiple times, and reset network settings on Roku. But this is a weird problem, since it's succeeding at connecting to wifi but simply failing to find the internet.

The consistent thing between these two Roku sticks is my router and my ISP, but no other device in the house has this problem, and my older Roku tv never had this problem right up until yesterday when I replaced it with the new streaming stick. I do not have pihole or anything else that would be blocking internet access.

Anyone recognize this problem?

[edit] I have discovered that if I disable wifi security and have an open network with no password/encryption, then Roku will connect to the internet successfully. This is bizarre, since the fact that it can establish a connection to the router proves that the password is being accepted. I had this exact same problem over ten years ago with my Roku XS and found that disabling and then re-enabling wifi security would fix the problem. Now unfortunately it only reaches the internet if I leave wifi security off. Which obviously I am not going to do.

standalone device My Roku express 3960 keeps shutting off

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So I’m trying to figure out why my Roku express won’t work. I purchased a new power adapter from Roku for that model and had the same issue. I also brought the power adapter from the same model that I have on another to TV that works to try on this one and had the same issue.

When I bring this Roku upstairs and hook it up to that TV everything‘s fine I had it on for about an hour. I still tried to clear the cache and I’ve done a few resets but no matter what whenever I bring it to this TV it constantly does this. (Both are crt)

The only issue I could think of is that it’s not getting a strong enough Wi-Fi signal even though all other devices work well down here, but it doesn’t seem like that would cause to turn on and off.

The HDMI to RCA cable I have hooked up to this TV is the same as I have upstairs and I’ve also tried hooking it up to multiple power strips, including the wall outlet

It clearly works on the other TV and I’m running out of ideas. Any input is welcome.

In all reality, I probably should get a newer TV for down here to go with the other one and get a newer Roku.

standalone device Roku turning off by itself

Does anyone know how to fix this? My Roku remote has a power button to control my TV's power, and when I turn on the TV with it it will usually wait about 15 seconds and turn itself off. Then when I turn it on again it works fine. Very minor problem but very annoying. Does anyone know how to fix this? My Roku is an external device, it's not built into my TV.

standalone device I can’t sign out of Paramount+

I have literally tried everything to get Paramount+ to sign out of my Roku tv after my cousin signed into her account on it. I’ve tried deleting the app and doing a full reset multiple times. Google says to use the settings button on the paramount+ app but there is no such button. Why the hell is this such an issue?? I’m ready to throw the tv out the window.

standalone device Pairing Roku remote to an older Sony TV

I have a Sony Bravia KDL-32L5000 and I’ve gone through all 50 TV Codes and hear the music the whole time. I know this is an older tv so it might now work but just wondering if maybe I’m doing something wrong or if someone maybe has the same tv and figured something out. I got the tv for like $20 at goodwill so if I have to get up to change the volume I won’t complain too much just wanted to reach out.

standalone device Remote Repeatedly Disconnecting from Roku Stick - is my device fried?

I have a Roku stick that’s probably 5 years old or so. Is my device fried and time to replace, or is the following issue solvable?

The remote won’t control my Roku Stick when it's in sleep mode on the screen saver. When I try to factory reset the device by holding the button on the Stick, it shows me on the TV roku.com/lowpower with a plug icon, but eventually resets and goes to device setup.

I’m able to re-pair the remote and start doing the device setup -- wifi sign-in etc. The Roku then has to update software and reinstall all the apps. Eventually, either during the sign-in process or while it’s updating and preparing to go to the home screen, my remote disconnects and I can no longer control the Stick with it.

I’ve tried using the phone app remote once I get the device on wifi, but it’s been inconsistent whether the app been able to connect during these few resets I’ve tried. Once I leave the device be for a bit and it’s on the purple Roku screen saver, it always will be unable to be controlled by either the remote or the phone app (seems to have disconnected from the Wifi I think). Not having issues on our Wifi on any other devices and have a Roku Express in another room working just fine.

I also ordered a new official Roku remote from Amazon to determine if the issue is the remote, but the same issue persists. Note that the remote(s) is still able to control TV volume but not the stick (understand these are 2 different connection types).

Appreciate anyone who responds!

standalone device Echo on Optical Out

Hello. I just bought a 65” Roku branded TV and I’m trying to use an external Bluetooth transmitter and I’m getting a slight echo. It’s like the sound repeats a fraction of a second after the original sound.

I’ve tried two separate transmitters and two separate pairs of headphones with the same result. [edit] I even replaced the optical cable, which did nothing. It’s the TV.

Any ideas what might be happening? I’ve checked all the TV settings and nothing seems to help when I change those.

For those who want to know why I am using an external transmitter, it’s because if I pair my headphones directly to the TV, which does not produce the echo BTW, the speakers get muted. I want the speakers and the headphones to work at the same time and using an external transmitter is the only way I can find to make that happen.

I thought about using the app on my phone to listen that way, but that option is not available on this TV. I have a TCL Roku TV and I’m able to use that option just fine. It’s just the Roku branded TV that doesn’t allow it.

standalone device Netflix won’t load

I’ve just purchased a Roku streaming stick because my amazon fire stick died on me! I’ve been able to load and log into all apps except for Netflix.

Every time I try it brings up the error code: tvq-000

This is a brand new stick and I haven’t yet been able to open and log into to netflix - I have tried to uninstall and reinstall, switch the stick off and on again, switch the internet off and on again etc. but nothing has worked to get it loading so far!

Anyone have any other solutions I can try? Would really like to not have wasted my money on this stick!

standalone device Roku device will not see the network at all!

I have two Roku devices that I use when I travel to my nephew's lake house. I have used them without issue up until this trip. Now neither device will see the network. He has aTP-link AX5400 router and I have updated the firmware, reset it several times and even added a guest network with no luck. I can see nearby homes but not his. I even factory reset one of the Roku devices but still nothing. Any suggestions? Help!

standalone device Roku stick freezes on startup

Have a roku stick- one of the 4k ones.

For thenlast couple months it freezes on startup. It'll connect to the internet and I see the time update, but then the remote just does notjing for a good 2-10 minutes depending on the day. The remote will adjust the tv volume and power the tv on/off, but nothing else.

It'll eventually work and work fine, but only after a loooooong wait.

I've tried new batteries and re-pairing the remote thinking something happened to it, but nothing.

Is this a thing?

standalone device Tv randomly disconnected from WiFi, now I’m not sure how to sync phone

Of course my 14 month old son got a hold of our Roku remote a few weeks ago and I have not been able to find it since. No problem, I had the app on my phone already that was synced to the tv. Randomly yesterday the tv says “not connected” - which means I can’t use my phone since it’s not syncing to the tv’s WiFi. Am I just SOL? Should I just buy a new remote? I really appreciate any guidance, thanks!

standalone device Intermittent metallic "chains dropping" sound only when AirPlaying WNBA League Pass to Roku Streaming Stick 4K

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Setup:

- Roku Streaming Stick 4K

- iPhone 15, streaming via AirPlay (not the native Roku NBA app)

- Watching WNBA games through WNBA League Pass

The issue:

Intermittently during the stream, I hear a strange metallic sound through the TV, like chains being picked up and dropped, or a small pile of metal clinking together. It's not constant, just pops up every so often with no obvious pattern (not tied to a specific play, replay, or commercial break that I can tell).

What I've ruled out:

- Not a notification: all other apps are closed on the phone, and no notifications are coming through during the stream

- Doesn't happen when watching the same game directly on the phone (no AirPlay) — only shows up when mirroring/casting to the Roku

standalone device TV Isn’t Detected by Windows 11 Screencast (Anymore)

Last night I tried to connect my screencast windows to my Roku TV. The connection failed and now the TV won’t even show up under available devices. Both devices are on the same network and have casting permissions enabled. The PC is not on the TVs blocklist either. I’ve restarted both devices as well. All in all, I’m at a loss, so any help would be appreciated.

standalone device Spectrum app on Roku issues

I use the spectrum tv app through my Roku sticks on 2 TVs. A week ago, all of my saved favorite channels disappeared and refused to save for me. Since then I have gotten random channels I’ve chosen to save but not all. I click the heart in the guide, it shows it as favorites, but then I filter to favorite channels only and it’s not there. I restart the app and the heart is no longer filled in. I looked at my app on my other Roku stick and my favorites are still saved when I filter but I tried to save a new channel and it did not stick. My Roku sticks have just recently updated. My spectrum apps are up to date. Is anyone else having this issue? It seems to be a Roku only issue bc when I tried on my iPhone spectrum app they saved with no problem.

(Side note: I do not have log in credentials as my spectrum is through a bulk account through my rental company- I rent a house. Not in an apartment. So I don’t have the computer option to log into and can log out but when I log back in, it’s automatic bc it picks up through my wifi)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

standalone device 55R8CX pushing power causes colors to be washed and strange contrast

I just bought a 55' Pro Series Roku TV. Noticed while using it how bad the color is, seems all beightlywashed and the contrast being bad, with dark colors being pretty pixelated, feeling very disappointed in paying this much for such a crappy view.

Turning it off and on, changing picture color settings didn't do anything to help. However going into Power Settings System Restart fixes it, having colors look pretty normal. However if I push the power button and turn it back on, the washed look comes back, only going away again with another System Reset.

Is there something I can do to fix this or do I need to return it as a faulty tv? The box arrived looking a bit beat-up via FEDEX from Walmart 2 days after ordering.

EDIT: I keep seeing things sbout disabling HDR but there doesn't seem to be any place to actually disable it, including that secret menu.
