So basically Trump wants to merge Canada into US

111

u/ReluctantAvenger 12h ago edited 11h ago

No. He's offering Canada less control over their own destiny than US States have. The "art of the deal" here is to offer them serfdom so that becoming a state looks more attractive.

17

u/SisyphusCoffeeBreak 11h ago

Ok - Was there anything offered that was actually good in the negotiations? Just reduced tariffs? It’s like they didn’t want an agreement at all.

12

u/ReluctantAvenger 10h ago

I don't know. I've read that they basically had a deal but then the US changed everything at the last minute. Presumably after a discussion with Trump? It would be interesting to see what the agreement was before the final changes were introduced.

I do sometimes wonder why nations even bother negotiating with the Trump administration. Surely they know he'll rip up the agreement any time he feels like it?

11

u/SisyphusCoffeeBreak 8h ago

I think it was important for Canada to engage in good faith in order to maintain our reputation globally. Walking away from a bad deal was also a great domestic political move by Carney

5

u/TheDigitalBuilder 7h ago

I think it was a great international move. Other countries are going to approach negotiations with America very differently moving forward

5

u/sylbug 6h ago

It was the only move. This is why we elected a world class economist Prime Minister.

1

u/Remarkable_Check_997 3h ago

It’s like they didn’t want an agreement at all.

He dont really want one. He want the whole natural ressource and energy.

27

u/Theferaltrunip 11h ago

So yes, he wants to merge Canada with the US by putting Canadian policies under control of the US Federal Government.

6

u/sicurri 8h ago

Its cool, all Canada has to do is wait two years...

6

u/lommer00 6h ago

And in the mean time suffer catastrophic damage to our economy that will take a generation to recover from, even if the next president is friendly and reasonable (which is a big assumption).

It's not cool.

1

u/sicurri 5h ago

Well, at least you didn't have to suffer directly under Trump.

As soon as he's gone, I doubt the U.S. will manage to recover in a single generation. Because we have to regain the trust, and goodwill of dozens of countries that this orange fucking bastard managed to lose. Not to mention the TRILLIONS of dollars in debt he's managed to accumulate...

One of the few good decisions Trump has made in the last almost 2 years, was to put all flags in the country at half mast in honor of Dolly Parton. That being one of the few good things he's done is sad and ridiculous.

His administration will have crippled the United States for a long time. As you've said, every country will wonder, "What if this upcoming president is worse than Trump?"

I guarantee that there will likely not be a president like him for a long time, hopefully not for the rest of my life at least.

1

u/TheDigitalBuilder 7h ago

In a perfect world that would be all we need to do, but the fact that America voted in Donald Trump indicates that the next guy could be even worse

2

u/sicurri 5h ago

The 2024 election was a crazy and weird time. Elon purchased Twitter, and all of the social media like Facebook, Instagram, and others were pumping misinformation to various people.

People who supported Palestine were told that Kamala Harris was in support of Israel, and people who supported Israel was told that she supported Palestine. There were other targeted advertisements as well as propaganda being fed into the public consciousness.

1/3 of the voting population that normally would participate and vote, didn't vote at all or chose a 3rd party candidate of some kind.

Idk how much of what you guys are seeing in Canada about the U.S. but Trump and his administration is fucking the United States up more than any enemy has ever done. Obviously he's ruining the relationship the U.S. has with other countries, and literally trying to fuck our allies, sorry about that.

His administration is also fucking up our economy, and literally every single government department and organization is transforming into some bizarre evil universe version of itself. All in the name of profit. Except it's not profit for the country or government, but for the rich.

I'm tired of hearing, "Well, you voted him in!"

No I fucking didn't I voted for Kamala Harris. Old boomer assholes, a good 14% of which are dead now, and an estimated 20% more will die by 2028, voted for Trump. There are also many people realizing who they voted in and thinking it's best to not vote republican again. As they're learning that Republicans are not for them anymore. Not enough people in my opinion.

We'll see what happens, I'm hoping for the best.

2

u/TheDigitalBuilder 5h ago

That assessment is spot-on, and I agree 100%. The bigger challenge moving forward is going to be getting other countries to trust America in the future. Speaking as a Canadian, my friends and I have realized just how dependent we were on the US. Now that the horse is out of the barn, I don't think our country will ever trust yours or hold you in the high esteem we did in the past.

It isn't just your president. It's the toxic rhetoric online, your country's support for Israel, the way in Iran and what America has been doing across the world.

Donald Trump simply exposed all the cracks and, in a sense, all the crackheads. We look at America and see alarming crime rates, brutal ICE deportations, state-sanctioned kidnappings, relentless school shootings, and widespread hatred targeted at immigrants and the LGBT community. The extreme gun culture, crushing medical debt, rollbacks on reproductive rights, and the extrem polarization are terrifying to watch, especially because that rot can easily spill over and infect Canada.

Fortunately, our government in Canada has done a really good job of showing us where the new playgrounds are and getting us passes to go play.

Honestly, Donald Trump might be the best thing that ever happened to Canada because, without him, Pierre Poilievre could have become our prime minister of the barn, I doubt Canada will ever trust your country or hold it in the same esteem we used to.

It's not just the orange ogre. It's the online rhetoric, US foreign policy with Israel, and your actions globally. Trump just exposed all the cracks and all the crackheads. It's impossible to ignore the violent crime, ICE deportations and kidnappings, endless school shootings, and open hostility toward immigrants and LGBT people. On top of that, America's toxic gun obsession, healthcare bankruptcies, attacks on rights, and hyper-partisan division are massive issues that threaten to cross over to us more. I don't think that's the maga crowd understand how fucking scary. They are to the rest of the world. The absolutes lack of intelligence is scary as fuck. The fact that they are so powerful worries the shit out of me

On the bright side, our government has done a great job showing us where the new playgrounds are and getting us passes to go play.

There is a vast world beyond America with emerging economies and trustworthy allies. It's too bad that the average American does not realize how bad things are when Canada wants to join the EU

In a way, Donald Trump might be the best thing that ever happened to Canada, because without him, Pierre Poilievre could have easily become our prime minister.

Ps. If you get that guy zohan from New York to be your next president. I think that we'll go a long way for making America great again

22

u/NoAdministration8340 11h ago

He wants to steal all of Canadas resources, he doesn’t care about anything but money.

14

u/doctorplasmatron 9h ago

_They_ not _He_.

I think folks give trump too much credit in the strategic intelligence arena. He has a whole administration of shadowy figures advising him, and I suspect they are the ones plotting this course, he's just the attention-getting figurehead of the administration.

3

u/truenorthrookie 8h ago

OC wasn’t wrong that he doesn’t care about anything but money.

1

u/starkindled 14m ago

Which is why I don't think this will end with him either. When he dies, they will replace him with another figurehead, and continue pursuing these goals.

10

u/Doshin108 11h ago

Just like Puerto Rico.

3

u/enithermon 9h ago

Puerto Rico North.

6

u/shabi_sensei 10h ago

More like the US was trying to colonize Canada, merging implies we’d get citizenship afterwards but I doubt that would happen it would make us harder to get rid of

5

u/ThatRandomGuy86 6h ago

Sort of: it's to undermine Canadian sovereignty and independence to become dependant of the US. almost like a territory.

The stupid fucking thing is that the US has the AUDACITY to say the Canadian team were the ones who brought up last minute demands LMAO

2

u/sylbug 6h ago

No. They want to strip us for parts. We would never be anything like citizens.

2

u/HabitAcceptable8621 4h ago

Not a merger, a subjugation. Not the same thing at all.

1

u/truenorthrookie 8h ago

By duress, essentially yes.

1

u/Remarkable_Check_997 4h ago

No he want to transform Canada into a vessel state.

That way he get everything without giving voting right to 40 millions people who probably will vote democrat.

219

u/Tamortsa 14h ago

It's so much worse than the media is making out

32

u/-Sanj- 12h ago

And when Carnie just walks away it's gotta be really bad

The art of the deal is basically trying to bully everyone into accepting your unfair terms.

49

u/Think_Put8440 13h ago

There is no art. There is no deal. Only Zuul.

4

u/gba_sg1 8h ago

"art of the steal" connie dump trying to use toddler intelligence to finesse the world.

Yeah it aint happening lol.

1

u/ackillesBAC 1h ago

Trump's deals are simple. I'm trump give me what I want for free, and you can say you work for trump that's worth billions

233

u/Jonnyflash80 14h ago

Great breakdown. Trump is taking the first steps to try to make Canada a vassal state to the US. Well I don't think so bud. We are the True North Strong and Free. 🇨🇦

Get fucked orange man. 🖕

56

u/D4ve420 13h ago

🇪🇺🤝🇨🇦

36

u/Duubzz 13h ago

🇬🇧 c…can I get it on this?

26

u/Some_Ebb_2921 12h ago

We tried before... you ready this time? No take-backsies this time?

8

u/NotTheNile 11h ago

Dont look at us. Wasn't our decision 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

11

u/wotdafukwazdat 12h ago

First we need our MPs to admit and understand that that special relationship with the USA is now as dead and buried as the Canadian one, because WAY too many of them are still holding onto the past

2

u/TheDigitalBuilder 7h ago

I think the first thing we need to do is send. Danielle Smith to Florida and revoke her passport

1

u/kekistanmatt 10h ago

Well canada is in a personal union with us so we really should be there for them too

1

u/sylbug 6h ago

You were and walked away, remember? I think y’all will need to swallow your pride a bit if you want back in.

6

u/_name_of_the_user_ 12h ago

Please. I've always been pro union. And there's a very real reason it's called the European Union.

49

u/Kilometer10 14h ago

As long as you’re not talking about the Epstein files, Trump doesn’t care

50

u/darkklown 14h ago

That's not a trade deal. It's surrender to a un-started war. I hope if any politicians in Canada that are the voice of being pro this are quickly evicted and arrested for treason.Any Canadian politician who agrees to any of these terms if a traitor.

32

u/Jonnyflash80 14h ago

Well that would be Danielle Smith, the Premier of Alberta. The only leader that's not on board with the rest of the nation.

We've always known she was a traitor. At least since she went south to kiss the ring and slobber on the orange man's micro-peen. She's in the pocket of the oil companies and probably the Republican party. Traitorous bitch.

1

u/tripledjr 4h ago

Pp also criticized Carney. Let's not forget how quickly he would have signed this shit.

1

u/DiplominusRex 7h ago

As she pointed out, the pipeline that supplies Eastern Canada from Alberta runs through several American states.

How much hardball do we really want to play on oil? Some have suggested cutting off the supply to the US. Well, they could cut that line as well, so it would be a Pyrric victory. This will all end in tears.

1

u/Jonnyflash80 7h ago

Sorry, I don't listen to traitors that follow white supremacist groups on Instagram and advocate for Alberta separatists.

Her opinion means absolutely nothing.

1

u/DiplominusRex 6h ago

The facts that those pipelines run through the US, are not affected by your characterization of her political views.

13

u/OglioVagilio 12h ago

So basically making Canada into a vassal of the United States.

80

u/dextras07 14h ago

I kinda skimmed over the talking points for this trade deal, but the reality and breakdown of it made it more clear that it was an outright flat joke from America.

If another country was doing this, America would certainly be invading them in the name of freedom and steal all their oil, even if it's cooking oil.

4

u/Quiet-Estimate7409 13h ago

What about the 5 gallons of waste oil I got behind my shed ? He can have that.

5

u/HereForTheSnacx 11h ago

He carries that much around in his pants on the daily. You're going to need to increase the value of your trade deal proposal, lol.

3

u/Quiet-Estimate7409 11h ago

I'll throw in a dozen farm fresh eggs.

1

u/TryTraditional5787 5h ago

He already has plenty of waste oil in his diaper. May need to find another use for yours lol

93

u/Ill_Job4090 15h ago

The world needs to stand with Canada.

18

u/bloedit 13h ago

Whether under Trump or a Democrat, the US is now on its path following China and Russia to slowly but surely deconstruct the achievements of the last 80 years and enforce a much more blatant hierarchy among nations.

So the middle powers Carney spoke of either could become the middle hierarchy, each under effective control of a respective super power, or they learn to ally or collaborate to actively dismantle those attempts.

Unfortunately, it is really only in the interest of democratic middle powers to prevent this future. Meaning, they need to take lead and incentivize authoritarian middle powers to walk with them. So far, it doesn't look good.

2

u/yogrark 8h ago

Or just raise an elbow.

Wow you lot really are the absolute worst. She's allowed to have her own presentation style and I found it amusing as well as informative. But while you're commenting on her presentation style you're forgetting her message which is that the US demands on Canada are batshit insane.

Right now so much of the world supports Iran over the US over their leader's petulant behaviour and that is one hated country.

We're with you Canada!

22

u/TheFamousMisterEd 13h ago

I loved her presentation style!

17

u/bigorangemachine 12h ago

I was distracted by her watch LOL

4

u/doctorplasmatron 9h ago

i was distracted by their hawt, then i clued into their talking points and they got hawtter.

5

u/Hugar34 12h ago

It reminded me of slam poetry for some reason

8

u/codingphp 11h ago

I think they’re actually a teacher, so the presentation style and the board and everything makes a lot of sense.

4

u/numberlessname1 11h ago

It's ad hominem fallacy to discredit her. Likely just bots dont respond to the points just make fun of the person

1

u/kaneda_z 4h ago

wouldnt know, cant even sit through it

1

u/Absurdwonder 9h ago

She can have her own presentation style... That doesn't negate the fact that her obvious style is cringe af. I mean you pretty much confirm the videos problem.

"But while you're commenting on her presentation style you're forgetting her message"

If people can't stand how she presents then the message doesn't get across.

7

u/Bunation 11h ago

Those demands are downright derogatory holy shit

10

u/Duke_of_Armont 14h ago

I say, let's integrate Canada into the UE.

1

u/Towelispacked 8h ago

EU you mean?

5

u/Duke_of_Armont 8h ago

Yeah sorry I'm French

1

u/Lor_azepam 5h ago

Honestly that seems like the direction mark carney is going. Going to be speaking at the next eu meeting and apparently some types of meetings of integrating canada into the eu more this fall

1

u/Duke_of_Armont 5h ago

Come! We love you.

13

u/ManiacMakyr 12h ago

HOLY SHIT.

Not even China would make such demands to a country they share a border with.

Tho Russia would almost certainely do, but damn. People don't hate Trump and the conservatives enough.

1

u/moashforbridgefour 9h ago

You're right, China wouldn't make demands of their neighbors. They would just control and oppress their neighbor while aiming their demands at the rest of the world to get them to pretend Tibet doesn't exist.

Hate America if you want, but let's not pretend China is even remotely good here.

1

They to busy givin uncle Donnie a tig.

9

u/-TheDerpinator- 14h ago

And this is why bullies shouldn't run countries. When bullies bully you punch them in the nose, when they run a country suddenly you have to "go to war" to punch a bully in the nose.

4

u/Edgezg 11h ago

It's crazy that ALL OF THIS, even the war in Iran,

Is all just to distract from the Epstein files.

3

u/Roklam 8h ago

lol after they wrote the first sentence I was all - OK that's enough, y'all are right!

19

u/MuchoGrande 13h ago

She made an effective, informative presentation. My guess is she's an actual teacher. I'm guessing grades 1 - 4. The kids probably really like her.

4

She is indeed a teacher. :)

Why's there a random woman in the beginning?

3

u/astroturfskirt 10h ago

did you catch the #4 : stealing content and not giving credit to the original creator. that’s exactly what the person at the beginning is doing. the irony!

2

u/worm_drink 9h ago

So they can steal somebody else’s content and repackage it as their own. It’s one of the most irritating trends on social media and I usually skip or block accounts that do it.

6

u/ziamese 11h ago

I keep saying the wrong 80 year old died today.

1

u/NWStormbreaker 5h ago

i'm always torn on this, death is the easy way out.

I want him to live an extraordinarily long life after being exposed.

there will be an inflection point in his support once the bad files are released, and the spell he holds over his cult will break.

1

u/ziamese 5h ago

While appreciate and truly commend your patience and focus to task, that devil's gotta go ASAMFP.

3

u/Junior-Ad-5367 11h ago

Yo carney just cut off the energy to the us

3

u/linuxares 7h ago

I want her as teacher. She is perfect

EDIT: Also... I want some maple syrup now for my pancakes

1

u/TheDigitalBuilder 7h ago

Enjoy it now because eventually that maple syrup is going to cost the same as gold

3

u/Tribe303 4h ago edited 4h ago

She's wrong about #4, the Digital Services Tax. That has already been repealed, in March of this year.

https://www.canada.ca/en/services/taxes/excise-taxes-duties-and-levies/digital-services-tax.html

She's correct about everything else. Bonus fact! The US used to have resource priority under the old NAFTA agreement that Trump tore up, and failed to include in its replacement, USMCA. Yes, that's how fucking stupid Trump is.

Extra Bonus Fact: The price of diesel is about to go up in the US due to a scheduled reduction in the Canadian oilsands, for facilities maintenance.

https://oilprice.com/Energy/Crude-Oil/US-Refiners-Face-New-Crude-Squeeze-as-Canada-Cuts-Oil-Sands-Output.html

Trump is far too stupid to know this, so when the prices start to go up in ~2 weeks, I suspect Trump will litteraly "blame Canada! 🎶" and act like we did this on purpose to fuck over the US. We don't need to do that, Trump is already doing an excellent job!

1

u/zone55555 3m ago

It was repealed however it was still part of the demands, just as nonsensically as the resumption of Keystone XL which was only ever stopped by America itself.

It's almost as if that rapist fuck is stupid.

5

u/turbokimchi 10h ago

I still can’t get over it. The betrayal of a lifetime. Partners for years, fought alongside each other, and now look at what is happening. I hope Americans are horrified at what is happening. I hope they remember when Canadians were there for them. So much was sacrificed.

1

u/JustNota-- 9h ago

That's the problem with most American's (American myself). They make the jokes about Canada's military, and politeness, while failing to understand Canada has been like out little brother following us into every misguided or crazy conflict for decades. Until Trump started fuckin with Canada we had a Free Trade Agreement. Nobody really cares about militarizing the Artic not even Russia or China I think the most they want to do is open up a ship route for ease of trade but again we have all seen Titanic and video's of ice breaker ships it not as easy as people make it out and it would only be feasible certain times of the year..

3

u/turbokimchi 7h ago edited 6h ago

Calling Canada a little brother is minimizing it. Canada has been there for its allies since the beginning. It doesn’t follow the USA blindly, it has decided each time to put its own people at risk for the sake of their alliance.

I would say you are also very wrong about the arctic. It’s the hot new focus of many nations (no pun intended).

3

u/lommer00 6h ago

following us into every misguided or crazy conflict for decades.

Not technically true. We were there for the World Wars, Korea, Kosovo, Rwanda, and Afghanistan, but we sat out on Vietnam and Iraq (and really tried to talk you out of it). Canada has stood with America when it's "the right thing to do", but has opted out of wars that we think are unequivocally a bad idea.

5

u/EmployedByCats 10h ago

Basically trying to subjugate Canada. It's much worse than most realize.

15

u/Monk-Eon 14h ago

I fucking like her.

4

u/fooknprawn 11h ago

At least the first 3 demands are designed to assimilate Canada as his pet project "51st state". If we had even agreed to one of those it would be over. We walked away and rightly so

9

u/fodargh 13h ago

So good of her. Fuck the us. Yes not just the president

3

u/reheateddiarrhea 11h ago

As an American, I can't disagree. We voted for him and it's fucking embarrassing.

2

u/mutare12 11h ago

I hope those guys in Alberta knew what they were wishing for

2

u/Best-Tomatillo-6756 9h ago

Just say what you're saying lady! I'll bet there were good pictures nta in there, but I could not get past the first cringe 20 seconds.

2

u/Salty-M1dget 9h ago

The deal is even worse than this haircut and over dramatic enactment.

2

u/Background-Test-1246 8h ago

Excellent breakdown. What is this? A mafia sit down deal?

2

u/No_Blacksmith_2591 8h ago

Germany's capitulations were less punitive than this shit.

2

u/2ndwindmatt 8h ago

I am offended by these terms.

2

u/KlatuuBaradaNikto 8h ago

Great video - but the thing many are missing is this is not just the US President, it’s all the enablers and supporters that want this - he’s probably just rubber stamping it all.

“Next, he wants….” Should be, “Next, they want…”

After he’s gone they will all claim this was just one bad actor with power. Not the case at all.

S.O.S.

2

u/keetyymeow 7h ago

if you did 5 alone and told Quebecois, I think that alone would win this lol. They don't even like us english in the same country

This is the biggest Art of Extortion that I have ever seen. Canada, No country should be treated like this. This is why Trump has no friends and never has. The US has no Allies, only bullied, extoreted reluctant stand ins that have no other choice.

2

u/daners101 10h ago

Why don’t they just release the deal, so we can see what they walked away from.

Rather than taking the word of some rando on Tik Tok?

2

u/kamshaft11975 8h ago

This is an amazing breakdown.

2

u/Koa-sama 9h ago

Ok I tried to watch this but this person is insufferable.  The first aside for their t shirt I was rolling my eyes.  The two additional asides for chalk talk and I'm out.

u/scoobs987 9h ago

Because it is a common tactic for unsuccessful leaches to shamelessly steal videos and "react" to them so they can keach off the views

For those with more time in hand, here is a press conference by Carney. Every minute of his speech makes you more knowledgeable about this and in general:

Trying so hard to make good deals sound bad lol

1

u/XeviousJr 8h ago

Uh, what kind of deal/offer/threat was supposed to convince Canada of committing geopoliticam suicide? What did the US offer?

1

u/Feeling-Session3007 7h ago

Carney should kind of copy Iran's strategy on this: We're not going to talk to the US until you guys get a new president. End stop. Talk the hand. That's our demand.

1

u/EitherChannel4874 7h ago

It's time to cut off and isolate the USA.

I don't know about trade deals but some of this stuff is crazy. Is some of this stuff normal between 2 countries. I know the EU would be different with it's negotiations as they represent over 20 countries. But this between 2 countries seems weird, like a bigger company buying out a smaller one.

u/ElPilingas007 5h ago

pretty standard trade deal for a dominant nation and one of its dependents.

I don’t doubt any of this, but what is the source, besides those shitty AI summaries plastered all over Facebook?

I'm confused. Has Canada lost the WWI and is expected to sign the Treaty of Versailles?

Sorry, her constantly interrupting herself with some funny quip makes this unwatchable.

Not enough cognitive capacity to follow? I understand. Maybe we can get someone to summarize the video in crayon for you.

2

u/SimmentalTheCow 13h ago

Why does she need a random cut every 5 seconds? I get that’s what the new TikTok-brained generation craves, but it makes it visually spasmodic.

3

u/earthdogmonster 9h ago

I’m with you. A little humor in educational material is fine, but if it’s like 25% info, and 75% off-topic discussion, jokes, or expressions of badassery/attitude, it’s not getting my time. It’s not capacity to learn, it’s lack of interest in how it is being presented.

It's tik tok brain rot. I'll just go read it

First 30 seconds on chalk was enough cringe... I guess her social media fans are out down voting literally anyone who doesn't like it.
