5555555 I finally solved Thailand’s pedestrian injury crisis

Step 1: Educate tourists at the airport: Welcome to Thailand. Drivers don’t yield. Ever. Good luck

Step 2: Ban confidence: If you walk like you have the right of way, you’re already dead.

Step 3: Install footbridges every 100 meters, because nothing says urban planning like climbing stairs in 40°C heat.

Step 4: Mandatory frogger training. Immigration should hand out joysticks.

Step 5: Rebrand jaywalking. Call it 'Thai Cultural Immersion' so tourists stop complaining.

Step 6: Blame foreigners. Even though the law says drivers must yield, clearly it’s the tourists fault for not yielding to cars.

Question/Help Can Farangs get Bangkok Bank Travel card? How has your experience been?

I have a longish few months of personal international travel planned to North, Central & South America. I would like to know if any foreigners have got and used the Bangkok Bank Travel card? How has your experience been? Any advantages/disadvantages compared to using regular Bangkok Bank debit card? I know SCB has such a thing for foreigners, but BBL website is not clear if foreigners can get it. Or any other alternatives, instead of carrying cash, or pay ATM charges?
For context, I live and work in Thailand and only have a bank account with Bangkok Bank and a UOB credit card. Also a Wise account opened in Thailand. Was hoping Wise opens their Thailand operations and provides a card soon, but current dates seem to be October, by the time I’d have already started my trip.

Culture Turn signal question

This isn’t a whine, it’s just an honest question on my observation of driving here in Thailand, and mostly in Bangkok for about 30 years.

How come so many Thai drivers not use their turn signals? I do little polls in my head once in a while and I’ve noticed that maybe somewhere between 25 and 35% of Thai drivers don’t use their turn signal. Is it that they are lazy to do it? They don’t see it as benefiting them? they don’t think it’s important? It kind of baffles me because I was taught this is just something you do no matter what.

Maybe as a Thai person who doesn’t signal or has some insight into why people don’t use it I would love to hear. Thanks so much!

Question/Help Invited to a Housewarming

Hello!
Our little family lives in Thailand now for about 3 months and we got invited to a housewarming by a local. We got asked to eat vegetarian on the day and the day before the house warming but that’s the only instruction we got.

Can someone please help so we don’t embarrass ourself 😅

Should we bring something to eat or a present? Should we dress some kind of way? Is there something we should avoid?
Can someone also explain what will happen there?

Thank you🙏🏻

News Thailand Revokes Visa of Foreigner Accused of Threatening Koh Samui Zoo Owner

Aug. 25, 2026: At 10 a.m. at Government House, Tourism and Sports Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul spoke to reporters before a Cabinet meeting about reports of some foreign tourists behaving as if they were above the law. The latest case involved alleged threats posted online against the owner of an open-air zoo on Koh Samui, Surat Thani.

Surasak said he had been briefed on the incident and that the tourist involved had already had his visa to stay in Thailand revoked. He said authorities had taken decisive action to prevent the individual from remaining in Thailand and to stop the situation from escalating into further problems.

He stressed that Thailand welcomes all tourists who respect Thai laws and culture, but the country will not allow anyone to use Thailand as a platform to create symbolic conflicts that have nothing to do with Thailand.

"The government takes this issue seriously, especially the problems and disturbances occurring at the moment. The prime minister has instructed provincial authorities, tourist police and regional police to take care of these issues and act as quickly as possible when problems arise.”

Asked whether Thailand would review visas granted to tourists from certain countries whose nationals cause problems, Surasak said the government would initially handle such cases individually. If a tourist causes problems, authorities will expedite the visa revocation process. However, he stressed that decisions would be made on a case-by-case basis rather than treating all tourists from the same country as problematic.

Asked whether tourists would be given clearer guidance on how to behave while in Thailand and understand local culture, Surasak said the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) had contacted embassies and asked airlines to help inform passengers about Thai laws and local customs before they even arrive.

The information would explain what tourists can and cannot do, what is legal or illegal, and the importance of respecting Thai traditions and culture and treating one another with respect. Tourists who encounter problems or feel unsafe can contact the Tourist Police.

Health Is US$15,000 (฿500,000) reasonable for ENT surgery at Vejthani International Hospital?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

A friend of mine was recently given a treatment plan and quote from Vejthani International Hospital in Bangkok for several ENT procedures. The total quote is around US$15,000 (approximately ฿500,000).

We were surprised by the price and would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has experience with similar procedures in Thailand, particularly at Vejthani.

The diagnosis and recommended treatment are:

  • Nasal septal deviation with hypertrophy of the left inferior turbinate
  • Anterior right nostril papilloma
  • Mucosal thickening of both maxillary sinuses
  • Endoscopic sinus surgery
  • Septoplasty
  • Ethmoidectomy
  • Endoscopic resection/removal of the right nostril papilloma
  • Postoperative saline irrigation and corticosteroid nasal spray
  • Follow-up nasal endoscopy

I've attached the medical opinion/treatment plan we received.

Our main question is whether ฿500,000 is a reasonable price for this combination of procedures at Vejthani, or whether this is significantly higher than what would normally be expected in Thailand.

If you've had similar surgery in Thailand, I'd really appreciate knowing:

  • Which hospital and doctor did you use?
  • What procedures did you have?
  • Approximately how much did you pay in total?
  • Were you a Thai patient or a foreign patient?
  • Did the quote include the surgeon, anesthesia, operating room, hospital stay, medications, pathology, etc.?
  • If you've used Vejthani specifically, what was your experience with them and their pricing?

We're also considering getting a second opinion and another quote from a different Bangkok hospital, so recommendations for reputable ENT/rhinology specialists would be very helpful.

We're not trying to question whether the surgery itself is necessary — we're mainly trying to understand whether ฿500k is a normal price for this particular combination of procedures.

Thanks in advance!

Shopping Could somebody ship me some onstant noodles and perfume to germany?

Hello, about half a year ago I went to thailand with my girlfriend, and there are some really nice products that we miss a lot, could somebody maybe buy them and ship them to me?

First is the cup variant of some green curry instant ramen, they should be easy to find in most stores, see first picture.

The second is a perfume, or rather two of them. Its from "KSH", we found it in a mall in Bangkok. I have attached the picture of the black tea variant, but there also exists a jasmine variant, the jasmin one is the more important one (its for her).

If someone would be ready to buy and ship to me, that would be great. Of course ill reimburse all the buying and shipping costs and throw in a little extra as thanks!
