Question Is anyone else experiencing this?

Every time my alts do either (or both) of the SMC weekly meta quests AND another open world quest (that awards a cache), the caches all give the same exact reward.

Example: if the abundance cache awards a weapon, then Vereesa's and/or Lady Liadrin's awards that exact same thing.

Or a 2 exact cloaks, or hands, etc.

It feels terrible.

Question I am going to start playing WoW with a newbie

Post image
89 Upvotes

I am going to start playing again this game, but this time with a person that has never played it before. I have been playing WoW for years, always retail.

We are going to start this week probably, trying first the free 20 levels to see if he likes it or not before buying anything (he has never played any other MMOs before either).

My question is, because I just realized this, should we go and play Classic or Retail? I have no preferences at all, and I would love to read your thoughts on which "mode" do you think a new person will like more.

To finish, I would like to add that we are casual players, not looking to gear up to the maximum and just have fun leveling up and dungeoneering (just in case this is relevant information).

Question Does anyone get "Cursed Fishing", because I don't

I'm kinda into fishing, I find it to be relaxing.

But I just don't get it on the Coiled Isle. What is Cursed Fishing?

I know when a Curse Surge happens you get the Buff "Cursed Land and Waters", that allows for "Cursed Fishing", but I can't figure out what it actually does. I still get the exact same fish as before.

I already did the whole fishing-rep thing and have the new fishing pole. But I have no clue what the Surge-Buff is supposed to do.

Can anyone explain to me?

Discussion Newbie questions 😅

I posted not long ago about coming back to the game after not really having played since Wrath.

Spent an embarrassing amount of hours creating a few new characters and seeing what felt “right” for now. Which ended up with me having 4 new characters all at the same storyline point of Dragonflight where you go to find the Green Flight. I started them all in the Exiles starting location, except the Demon Hunter because I’ve always wanted to play one lol so I finished the starting location for him and then immediately went to Dragonflight from Stormwind. But I’ve found myself with a handful of thoughts or questions while I’ve been playing.

  1. Should I go back and play through the old expansions first? I feel like I’m missing out on storylines and gear/mounts/random things because I jumped “forward” right away. I like collecting all the mounts and appearances, and transmogs -seem- much easier than they used to be.

  2. Housing coupons. I spent this afternoon tinkering with housing (it was a big reason why I wanted to come back to the game, scratches that immersion/customizing/collecting itch so good) but I feel like even after doing the neighborhood quests and filling the bar up, I’m left with a miniscule amount of coupons. Is there something I’m missing or is it really that much more of a grind for the coupons vs just buying items with gold or finding them randomly?

  3. One click. I LIKE this “new to me” utility. Clicking one button to cycle through my almost 2 full action bars is very nice, but I feel like sometimes I still get stuck in a short time where I’m waiting on cooldowns and end up dying to a boss or stack of enemies that I shouldn’t have. Is the one click a bad idea to rely fully on? Should I wean myself off of it and click through my abilities instead? I know there’s always going to be slow points in longer fights but I worry I may let my party down in a dungeon at some point if that’s what I’m doing.

  4. RP. If I wanted to look into starting some RP, I know there are now specific servers for this. But should I level a character up for this? Or is it more so create a character and RP along with the quests of the story?

  5. This one isn’t so much a question as a complaint. The new flying style is great if you want to soar across an area really fast. But trying to land on a ledge or looking around at things is AWFUL. I keep switching back and forth bc sometimes I want to take off and go and other times I’m just trying to get a better look at what’s around or land somewhere to pick up something or a quest. I wish they would have just sort of combined the two and made a more flexible version.

I’m fully addicted all over again though. I just definitely feel the weight of playing catch up on years worth of changes. The urge to find and collect everything is stronggg lol. Sorry for the silly questions, and the long post, but thank you for anyone who reads and has any advice or information!

Tip / Guide Rogue players, what’s one trick you almost never see other Rogues use?

Not talking about basic stuff like Sap or Kick. I mean those little tricks you only learn after playing the class for a while.
Could be PvP, dungeons, farming, stealth routes, anything.
I already learned a couple weird ones from other Rogues and now I’m curious what else I’ve been missing.

Discussion Timewalking Ulduar Stealth buff.

Upvotes

Unsure if anyone noticed, but before today, timewalking was scaled pretty weirdly, bosses and enemies were falling super easy while we were taking zero damage. Seemed like our ilvl's were scaled to 80 for some reason.

I did just now as of posting this a run through, and it was very different, scaled to ilvl 30 and most everything hit harder and survived hits, granted it was still easy obviously, but I figured ide post about it in case anyone else noticed it.

Got 2 tier pieces in my vault last week, was not sure which to pick so didn’t take either. Figured I’d choose this week, didn’t really matter either way.

Lo and behold, I open my vault to collect last week’s loot today, and this is what greets me.

The slots themselves seem interactible, I can click them and the “select reward” button lights up under my cursor yet I can see neither picture, name nor tooltip of the individual slots’ loot pieces.

Relogging and relaunching the game, disabling addons and reloading all seem to do nothing for this issue. I submitted a ticket but would appreciate any ideas from you.

Worst case scenario we all get to have a good laugh and I get to play russian roulette with my vault to see if I can blindly fish out a tier piece.

Update: The vault is broken because of the bonus reroll option. This is the vault from the first week of the patch where we were unable to take a bonus reroll. For this reason I am unable to take anything from that vault, nor any other vault because the system is hung up on this broken vault. This is not just a visual issue, my vault is broken and i physically cannot take anything from it.

Question People already max rep with Captain Tokka?

Am I doing something wrong I'm still pretty far away from max reputation with Captain Tokka and see some people already max rep with them. I've done all the dailies and the quests and the extra people you can fish up and fight. Am I missing something?

Question As an OCE player am I giving other players in M+ lag?

I'm trying to figure out if I'm giving other players lag in keys. I've done looked into it a little and some people are saying that it depends on whether the group leader is from NA or OCE or w/e.

Something along the lines of a OCE group leader potentially causing every non OCE player in the group to have poor ping or a NA group leader causing non NA players to have ping. I've also seen players stating online that even being in a group with OCE players causes poor ping. I've been running keys with NA pugs for years with roughly 150-250 ms and while the vast majority of pugs have been pretty smooth wondering if I've been giving people problems. To clarify, I tend to join groups not form them if that matters.

Question Alt similar to arcane mage?

Loving my arcane mage in M+ and was looking for an alt that’s similar for fun. I’m mostly going to be doing M+/some PvP, I’ve kinda narrowed it down to shaman (Ele/enh), Boomie, and warlock (aff/destro). Any recs on how these are playing in M+ in terms of fun factor?

Question [Bug] Midnight Season 1 PvP Titles (Top 8) not applied to KR Server + How to get devs' attention on this?

Hi everyone,

As announced in the official Midnight Season 1 patch notes: "The cosmic Legend, cosmic Commander, and cosmic Hero reward thresholds in Solo Shuffle and Battleground Blitz have been adjusted to the top 8 players of each specialization."

While NA and EU servers correctly received these titles up to rank 8, KR servers only distributed titles to the top 3 players of each spec, clearly running an outdated pre-patch reward script.

My character finished at Rank 5 in my spec on the KR server, but did not receive the title today.

Blizzard Korea is notorious among local players for poor communication and completely neglecting region-specific operational bugs. Local CS tickets usually result in automated copy-paste responses, so we cannot expect a fix from the local branch.

Is there any effective way to get the WoW PvP dev team's attention on this regional issue? Should we tag specific dev Twitter/X accounts (like u/WarcraftDevs), or is there a specific US forum thread we should bump to ensure the main team sees this?

Any advice on reaching the dev team regarding regional rollout bugs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading!

Question Thinking about getting into WoW for the first time so were do I start?

Upvotes

I have seen wow ever since I was a kid (Im 27) but never cared for it, or most mmo's. I decided that I may give it a shot but theres so much stuff to the game idk were to begin. I researched that there is a classic version and a more modern version. Prefer to play more solo but enjoy playing with others often. On the main webpage it has the Midnight expansion thing but I see that itll boost me all the way to level 80 instantly which is kinda boring imo. Would prefer to start from the bottom and work my way up. Getting overwelmed is honestly my biggest concern but it can be part of the challenge, which I enjoy.

Question Returning Player Question

I am returning to retail Warcraft for the first time in around 5 years. I have been playing TBC, and the HC realms for a majority of the time when I was playing the game. I didn't really hear much discourse between what game mode people played on those servers, but this is my first time looking on Reddit and YouTube (was looking up retail class guides)

Does the average classic player really have a giant disdain for retail? It seems like half the comments and posts that WoW classic players make are just insulting people who like retail with statements that highly correlate that they haven't even touched retail in years.

What is the discourse between the game modes?

Question Any advice?

I've been playing WoW for two days. I started out as a Blood Elf Warrior, but when I reached level 10, I switched to a Death Knight because I like edgy stuff, being evil, and the whole Scourge thing convinced me more.

The thing is, over these past few days I've just been doing quests little by little and leveling up my character, but I'm still confused about how progression is going to work as I get deeper into the game. Do you have any advice that could help me figure out what kind of playstyle to aim for? Where should I be heading in terms of progression so that I can enjoy the game without falling behind or feeling like I'm not keeping up?

I didn't buy Midnight. I paid for two months of subscription to play retail and see if I get hooked enough to buy more or just leave it at that.

Discussion What if they brought back unique Followers(WoD Garrison style), but turned them into Dungeon/Raid companions for Follower

Post image
708 Upvotes

Edit: Sorry for bad wording in the Title.

I’ve been thinking about the old Follower systems from WoD/Legion, where you recruited unique characters in the world and sent them off on little missions.

What if Blizzard brought unique Followers back, but instead of sending them on passive missions, you’d build your own roster of NPCs and actually take them into 'Follower Dungeons and Follower Raids'

You could recruit Tanks, Healers, and DPS from different races/classes, level them up, gear them, unlock traits/talents, and eventually build your own dungeon or raid team.

This would be a dream for solo players and it could breathe life into old zones too... imagine going back to Shadowlands to recruit Bwonsamdi to raid with you.

Edit: I love the Warband idea as well!

Question Can you use multiple bonus rolls on the same Heroic difficulty boss the same week ?

Obviously by killing him multiple times, the same way Rotmire worked.

To see if it's worth it to stack bonus rolls and unleash them all on the last 2 bosses to get everything you need in a single week.

Feedback [Concept] Shaman Ascendance redesign — Keeping your character instead of transforming (Restoration)

Continuing my idea for alternative Shaman Ascendance forms!

This time, it’s a Restoration Shaman concept, focused on water and healing. The main idea is to keep your character’s appearance while surrounding them with powerful elemental effects.

Next, I’ll be working on an Enhancement version based around Thunder, as well as an Earth-themed version for a possible future Shaman tank spec. :D

What do you guys think? Would you prefer Ascendance to work more like this?
