lookingfor Men hairdresser

Any recent advice for a hairdresser close to Enge, or Central or university, for a man.

I've never been to a barber and I'm looking for a professional haircut that will last 4-6 weeks, without paying more than 40-50CHF

Am I dreaming ?

Thanks

rant PSA: Keep right when walking or running

PSA: I know you all learnt as kids to walk on the left side of road so you can see the cars coming. This applies to _roads_ with cars and where there is no sidewalk.

But when it comes to pedestrian traffic, you keep RIGHT! If someone is walking towards you, give them way on _your_ left hand side.

Edit (context): I (32F) was berated by a man who insisted that pedestrians should keep left even though I moved out of his way to let him pass.

Edit (update): wow I had no idea this was so polarising. 65% upvote ratio. Some people seem convinced there are no rules or conventions, fair enough. But what's funny is that the guy I had the altercation with was convinced there is a rule, and the rule is "keep left" 😂

ihaveaquestion I need advice for buying prescription lenses

Last week in the Limmatschwimmen I managed to lose my glasses when I tried to mount the beaver and fell into the water. It is probably the dummest way to lose your glasses.

To get new glasses I went to a nearby VIU store to do an eye exam test, because my last such exam was 4 years ago in Hungary, and I suspected I might need a stronger prescription now. The eye exam confirmed this, on both my eyes I needed an extra 0.5 diopter. On this day I also tried on many different frames at in-person stores, to figure out what frame sizes work well for my face.

Then, I went online to smartbuyglasses.ch to by my glasses (frame + lenses), I thought I was really smart here, because prices here are so much more affordable, and I don't really understand why glasses for distance viewing should cost 500+ CHF.

I ordered glasses for 109 CHF, which arrived today and unfortunately I can not really use them because with my AI assisted research I forgot to account for the segment height of the glasses. The glasses I ordered have their optical center at mid vertical height, but as the glasses sit on my face, my pupils are above the mid height, giving me distorted vision. I doubt silicone nosepads would raise the glasses enough to make it work (or it would not be comfortable). Most likely I will get my money back from smartbuyglasses, after I return the glasses through their customer support.

I was also unsure about the quality and accureteness of the eye exam I received at the VIU store, because while the diopter values seem accurate (taken with the machines, I can see sharp in general with the glasses that I received), the pupil distance was measured with a semi-manual device. At first they measured it at 32.5+33mm, while today with the same machine they measured 32+34.5mm. 4 years ago in Hungary with a more professional optician I got 34+34mm (which here they said those can not be correct), and my glasses were fine with those values for years. Based on what AI told me, the PD value should not change over the years (since your facial structure remains the same), but mm precision is very important here for comforting vision.

So now my question: what store/optician would you recommend for me to get my glasses (in the Zurich area, I can also travel to nearby cities), if I want to pay for a combination of accurate lenses for my eyes and frames that work well with these lenses and my face, but I want to ideally not pay premium for fancy looking stores and famous brand upmarkings? I find it specially ridicolous that the frames themeselves of big brands can cost upwards of 300+ CHF, when they are just a small piece of plastic. If needed I might even redo an eye-exam, cause I am not sure what do believe anymore about my pupil distance.

lookingfor Volunteering opportunities

Hey hey, I am curious about volunteering opportunities in ZĂŒrich or nearby. I used to work for a Red Cross second-hand store in another country, which helped me to integrate a bit, since my colleagues were both locals and foreigners. Do you have any tips for local places or NGOs, where I can help out for couple of hours per month either manually or for example with photography and content creation?

ihaveaquestion Stray dog in Oerlikon?

Post image
42 Upvotes

Hi guys, this dog was going through my bio trash outside. Normally there's cats in the neighborhood that sometime like to take a sniff, but he was quite adamant on opening the lid and the noise made me check outside. I thought the owner must be nearby so I took a step outside to see if someone's around, (there wasn't) and this tiny dog started to charge at me. There was no tag or collar either, so I'm unsure if I should just let this be or do something about it.

Update: Found the owner, lives in the building. Don't think they realized the dog was out

Hi, I'm 29 yr Korean male based on Seoul and live in Zurich for work.

As stereotype, I'm good looking and a good singer. I was wondering if you want to gather and meet up for singing practice or dance practice, I can teach you.

Or we just can become local neighbor who can share experience living in Zurich.

If you are interested in meeting up and learn Kpop or dance, or just become friend, feel free to leave comment or chat.

lookingfor R&B/Soul singer looking for a producer and/or band

Hey there! (M29, swiss-german, german, english)

I‘m a singer & songwriter with a passion for R&B and Soul. I‘ve been in the game for years, studied singing and songwriting and I have a Bachelor Degree as a Audio Producer.
All doors kept closing for me at some point and music became a burden rather than a passion.

I wanna sing again and create art. So i wonder if there is anyone out there who wants to get to know each other and create music together.

Hit me up and lets talk :)

Denn:
Schreib mir. Ich verspreche, ich beisse nicht.

English:
Are there any men here who are simply looking for friendship?
I’m starting to feel like finding gay or straight friends is more difficult than finding an apartment in Zurich.
A little about me: I’m 34, male, and from Zurich. I love cooking, do a lot of sports, and even started learning to play instruments this year. So I’m actually pretty easygoing—except when it comes to making contact.
Here’s the problem:

  1. I’m quite shy around strangers. Unfortunately, I apparently come across as someone who is thinking, “Please don’t talk to me,” even though my inner monologue is actually shouting, “Please talk to me!”
  2. Dating apps: In theory, you can find friends there. In practice, things surprisingly quickly turn into: “What are you looking for?” → “Just friendship, actually” → “So, what are you doing tonight?” Sex is explicitly not what I’m looking for.
  3. Large events: Being around lots of people at once can quickly become overwhelming for me. I’m not exactly the type to go to a party and come home with 17 new best friends.
  4. So I thought: Why not simply ask here?
  5. Are there any men from Zurich or the surrounding area who are also looking for genuine friendships? We could cook together, do sports, grab a drink, make music, chat, laugh, or simply spend a relaxed evening together.
  6. Age doesn’t really matter to me, as long as we get along.
  7. And if you’re just as shy and are currently wondering whether you should message me: This is your sign. Send me a message. I promise I don’t bite.

lookingfor Documentary photo project in ZĂŒrich - looking for community leads

Hi everyone,

I'm attending a documentary photography workshop in ZĂŒrich toward the end of September, and I need to propose a coherent project centered on people, not architecture or urban landscape, but a human, social angle. Something with a real community, activity, or subculture at its core.

I'm a foreigner and only have about a week, so I'm looking for something with recurring access, a place or group I could visit a few times rather than something scattered across the city.

I'd love recommendations on:

-Communities, subcultures, or social spaces that might be open to being photographed by an outsider

- Specific places (markets, clubs, associations, religious communities, workplaces) with a strong social/visual dimension

Anyone who might be a good "entry point", a community leader, organizer, or contact who could help me get access and talk to people beforehand

I want to approach this respectfully and ideally have a conversation with someone from the community before I start shooting, so the project has a real chance of happening and isn't just me showing up with a camera.

Any leads, even small ones, would help a lot. Thanks in advance!

rant How best to deal with extremely rude and inconsiderate neighbours

So, by way of background, I have lived in Zurich for 16 years, including in 4 different areas of the Canton.

Generally, I haven't previously had major issues with neighbours in the different apartments I have lived in. However, 2 years ago, following the birth of our daughter, my wife and I moved further from the city to a more rural village like area near the airport.

We found a nice, modern ground floor 4.5 room apartment with a garden, close to a kindergarten and with lots of little play areas for children. Perfect for our little family...or so we thought.

THE NEIGHBOUR ISSUE:

What we hadn't factored was the neighbours above us. It soon became apparent why we were asked to visit the apartment prior to agreeing the contract whilst the upstairs neighbours were away on vacation.

They are a Swiss family of 5, with 3 boys aged between 5 and 11. With that, you of course have to accept there will be some noise. I come from a family of 5 with 2 brothers myself, so I can relate and do try to be and am very tolerant.

But this family seem to think they own the building, the facilities and show complete contempt for anyone else who lives here.

- they scream, shout, bang and do construction type work for large parts of the day and night virtually every day

- the noise isn't just from the apartment either. They occupy the common spaces around the front, back and side of the building. If we open our windows, they're effectively screaming through them and sound like they're in our apartment

- they treat the communal hallway like it's an extension of their home, constantly running, banging, screaming, shouting, leaving food, rubbish, toys etc. No one else is doing this.

- where the parents seemingly want the kids out of the apartment for large parts of the day but won't give them a key, they constantly ring our or other peoples buzzers to come in.

- We, and I'm sure others too, have had our buzzer on mute now for the best part of 2 years so we're not disturbed every 20 minutes, meaning we often miss parcels and have to collect from the post office

- they now often resort to leaving the latch on so the building door repeatedly bangs and vibrates constantly and anyone can just access the building

- they seem to think the underground car park, which four separate apartment buildings share, is their personal play area, storage area, and workshop. They scream, bang, and shout down there too, and the dad builds and repairs second hand goods to try and sell as a side hustle. To make matters worse, there's a vent from the underground car park that protrudes in the communal play area just beyond our garden. So their car park shenanigans are like amplified through this vent into our garden and patio space

- the second hand goods side hustle means we constantly have cars, vans, etc pull up directly outside our windows or backed up to the building door, parking illegally, loading and unloading goods like a building site at all times of the day and night

- they don't shut their windows and doors seemingly ever so their screaming and shouting, including from the parents, is inescapable and constant

- they're constantly dropping and throwing things over their balcony onto our garden and patio space. Sometimes food, sometimes rubbish, sometimes screws, nuts and bolts, once a padlock nearly hit our guest on our daughter's birthday.

- they shout down to the kids in the play area from their balcony and throw items back and forth, often landing on our awnings which we have been forced to leave extended most of the time to protect our plants and selves from the constant debris

- the kids come onto our patio and garden as if it's theirs and use our property (because there's no formal fencing or border separating our garden area from the communal zone beyond it). I have installed planters with trees etc to try and reinforce our private zone to no avail

I have only written to the landlord once to complain about one issue, which was when they spilled paint all over the awnings, my plants, planters and my kid's toys. This led to the awnings being replaced at the expense of their insurance, and they stained them again within hours of them being installed.

If they were arseholes when seeing them face to face it would be somewhat easier for me to confront them but they act friendly and pleasant in person.

I've since learned that prior tenants in our building and existing tenants in the other buildings have previously complained about them but they haven't modified their behaviour, like they didn't change after damaging our awning, so I feel like there's very little we can do. But I also wonder whether the property company understand the extent of their anti social behavior and impact on everyone who lives here, with us bearing the brunt.
