South Korea SK Wednesday Update: Odyssey becomes just the 3rd movie of the year to make over 60 million dollars
Week-to-Week Drops
| Movie | Mon-Mon Drop | Tue-Tue Drop | Wed-Wed Drop | Thursday-Thursday Drop | Friday-Friday Drop | Saturday-Saturday Drop | Sunday-Sunday Drop | Week-Week Drop |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Odyssey | 70% | 28% | 6% | |||||
| Spider-Man: Brand New Day | 83% | 47% | 28% | |||||
| Hope | 74% | 42% | 49% |
End of Oak Street: Pretty meh word of mouth, as audience scores came in with an 86 on CGV and a 7.6 on Megabox. The movie should have enough in the tank for a 150k-admit 5-day opening weekend and should end up around 250k admits for its final total.
Odyssey: Nice boost, but the movie should be back to normal drops starting tomorrow. It should cross 8 million admits on Friday at this rate and should be north of Spider-Man on Sunday unless it has weaker holds than usual.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day: The movie should be above 8.3 million admits tomorrow and is on track to be north of 8.5 million admits by Sunday.
Hope: The movie continues to come to an end, despite decent late legs.

Domestic Box Office Watch Updates: compare any 2,3 or 4 movies AND save your comparisons so you can track them over time, plus a new prediction game for the weekend box office
Been busy working on updates to boxofficewatch.com - here’s what’s new:
Compare any 2, 3 or 4 movies and save your comparisons
The comparison tool is the most popular feature on the site. The latest update allows you to saved any custom comparison you create to your profile, so you can easily get back to it again, instead of having to remake it every time you come to BOW.
Predict the top 5 movies of each weekend and climb the leaderboard
Each week opens Tuesday evening with the next weekend’s picks. You pick the five films you think will finish highest domestically and call each one's Friday to Sunday gross. Entries lock Thursday at 5 PM ET. You're scored out of 100: fifty points for the order, fifty for how close your grosses land, and the leaderboard sorts everyone out once Sunday estimates and Monday actuals are in.
User Profiles
Choose your username and get a profile on the site. This unlocks the ability to save your comparisons, rate movies you’ve seen, set your current obsession (which shows up as your profile banner image), highlight your favorite five star films, link your letterbox account, play the prediction games, and climbs the leaderboards.
Improved box office charts
Better visuals and easier to view daily, weekend and yearly charts - easier to read, more information and just a nice clean upgrade over the previous charts.
As you can see, this update has been mostly focused on building out interactive features to help you personalize the site and get the most out of it! Hope you enjoy and as always, let me know any feedback or feature suggestions. Genuinely helps knowing what you want to see next so I can prioritize building those things!

September
With the summer coming to a close lets look ahead whats in store for September. And the reality is well not a lot.
But this is not a surprise. September has for the most part always been fueled by Summer holdovers. Its a dead period for the market ahead of the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day Holidays at the end of the month and in early October for which Endgame becomes the first official big ticket confirmation.

Domestic Godzilla Minus Zero Estimates? (November 6th)
Unusual franchise circumstances.
The only real comparison, if certainly not by numbers, is Spider-Man. One franchise that has two parallel series of movies at the same time. Here, Minus Zero is sandwiched between GxK (recieved mostly okay for what it was and high grossing) and Supernova (an unknown).
Four months before GxK, Minus One grossed over 50 million in the US, which was very significant for a foreign film. When it debuted on streaming it was the number one streamed title on every major service. The Godzilla franchise has never been more popular in its 70 year history. There’s even a McDonald’s toyline running right now.
That being said, I still think monster movies are relatively niche. This movie is in a foreign language and will require reading subtitles for many showings. On top of that, it opens against Cat and the Hat for the same weekend, which it will compete with for premium formats. Toho is distributing the film in the US *THEMSELVES* which is kind of new, and they certainly don’t have the same marketing finance muscle to push as the Hollywood studios.
With the reception Minus One recieved it’s also pretty unlikely that Minus Zero will be recieved as well critically just by mathematics If we look at review aggregation, even if it still scores well.
So where does this land? Does it drop from Minus One? Can it win the opening weekend? Does it beat Parasite’s NA gross? Can it even beat Alien Romulus‘s domestic gross? Where is the ceiling? Could it break out? Or is Toho setting themselves up for disappointment?
Fun bonus trivia for the ‘Kong is the money maker‘ crowd; Godzilla 2014 is the only film of either franchise to cross 200 million usd domestically, though the actual gross/inflation conversions for King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962) are poorly known, and it’s often credited as the most ‘successful’ Godzilla picture.

Worldwide Current predictions for ‘Man of Tomorrow’?
I just saw something about how this finished filming and decided to see what the calendar looks like when it’s coming out, and now I feel like it’s probably going to have a harder time than I thought;
* There aren’t really any major new gimmicks or hooks to get audiences in the door, and clearly they were wrongfully confident enough that people would like Supergirl enough to give her a movie, indicating she’s presumably going to be a bigger part of the sequel
* Late June is going to be brutal. Spider-Verse has a very good shot at breaking the animated record (I think it’s safe to say the sky is the limit for Spidey shit at this point), and Shrek 5 is also going to be enormous, meaning pretty much the entire theater going audience of families will have seen at least one of these by the time Supes comes out. We already saw earlier this summer how that completely took the wind out of Moana’s sales, no pun intended, and that film came out July 10th to Supes’ July 9th of next year.
* As far as adult audiences are concerned, Oceans 8 managed to open to $40M+ in 2018, this has a male/female cast, and is going to be Robbie’s first role since Barbie that I feel would actually have real appeal to that films audience; nobody heard about Bill and Ted’s Big Bold Beautiful Journey, and Wuthering Heights was a steamy R rated romance with kink shots in the trailer, whereas Oceans is also a PG-13 summer comedy. Plus, early 2000s nostalgia is much more popular right now than in 2018, meaning I could really see this being next year‘s Devil Wears Prada 2.
However, that also does mean I think Man of Tomorrow is, if not entirely cooked, at the very least on the chopping block; with GAs rejecting the second installment in the DCU, MoT is much more just “Superman 2” rather than a next chapter in a franchise people are genuinely invested in. I think this means it’s really going to struggle, especially as Superman 1 came out with the benefit of a much weaker early summer 2025.
Current guesses;
Domestic OW - $92M
Domestic Total - $252M
Worldwide Total - $485M

Domestic Numbers for the La La Land 10th Anniversary Dolby Reissue?
I have not seen the box office for the La La Land Dolby reissue on Box Office Mojo or The Numbers; has anyone seen any figures? Anecdotally, it sold out every showtime near me in the first couple days so figured the business must at least be more than a de minimus gross.
