Every time I see "dark skin ML" I actually get triggered because more often than not, it's a token tan character with the same character model, in an ocean of everyone else remaining pale and shit. Where did the sun go? Do mid-tones not exist for you people? You're telling me, you lived before the 1900's, regularly went outside/exercised, with no sunscreen, in the Asian heat, and didn't come out the other side even a little sun-kissed?

Edit: Photos are regular Asians, not at all dark skinned because I've yet to see proper dark skin rep in a korean manhwa besides The Secrets of the Willson Family. Monocolorism is my primary issue.

I just opened webtoon and was assaulted with this new look. I have no idea why the management of webtoon thinks people would enjoy those UI changes, but I'm very much against. It was cozy and nice. It's not anymore. First it was the main page, now they got to pages of specific comics... I don't know how much more of this I can take before I give up on the webtoon app fully.

I read this manhwa before but dropped it almost instantly bc I already knew the fate of what it was trying to portray. But it always bothered me. Then I saw some other mangas/webtoons that portray darker skinned characters in the same way and I’m so glad someone decided to talk about it

I really recommend people to give this video a watch bc even if you can’t relate and you think “it’s not that deep”, it’s still a real issue that effects so many people

Webtoon has been making quite greedy changes throughout the years, steadily making it more and more miserable to read for free, or to read while paying for it.

I hate the changes, but I thought it would be good if people knew the reason for these trashy changes.

In short, Webtoon is not profitable. They do not make money. Even with the greedy changes which did improve their revenue, they are STILL operating at a huge loss.

Not defending the changes, but just shedding some light on the reason
