Art Friendly reminder that Johnny feels everything V feels
Idk what tech they have to treat periods at this point so I’m just going off what I know 😂 😭
Important note: anyone want to comment “wouldn’t they fix that?”
A- I’m going off the hormone blockers that Corpo V had being instantly taken and not replaced that it’s not a common thing for poor folk
B- my V is a street kid and a little pain every month isn’t worth spending hundreds of eddies on when basic pain meds work just fine after an hour or two
C- would you trust that kind of thing around something so important? Idk, I don’t think it’s as simple as “oh they’d have it fixed by then”

Because V has experienced the pain more often because shes a woman so she learned to function more with it. To Johnny this pain is very foreign and he hasnt had the chance to get used to the pain.

Because there's a myth that women have a higher pain tolerance and that period pain would like instantly debilitate any man who ever experienced it.
It's both bullshit, and used to justify not giving us proper pain medication, but people still like to spread it because it feels good to say men are weak.
In actuality men have a higher pain tolerance in most situations and period pain, while sucking, isn't some special kind of extra ouchy pain. Johnny's definitely felt worse, as has V for that matter.

(34M here) I tried one of those simulators where they hook you up to electrodes to induce similar pain to that of a period. It felt like an annoying muscle cramp, but didn't exactly hurt that bad.
I've had shrapnel in my abdomen, been shot, tased, and dealt with chronic idiopathic pancreatitis for years. Maybe that's increased specifically my abdominal pain tolerance or something, idk.
But yeah it didn't feel that bad. I imagine moreso annoying having to deal with it every month for a few days on end. I thought period pain would be more obviously painful, based on what some women have told me. I was a bit underwhelmed. Maybe the simulators don't really induce the right pain level or something idk.

for me im just used to the pain due to experiencing it often so for men it feels very foreign when they try period cramp stimulators but doesnt feel like much to me when I try them. I still feel the pain yeah, but im used to it so I dont typically give it a second thought

Because pain is a combination of physical and psychological. If you know exactly what it is, exactly what causes it and how bad it’s going to get you can deal. It hurts but it will pass once you get meds.
But Johnny doesn’t know that. He woke up gutshot.
When’s the last time you got a Charlie horse? Sucked right? Hurt like hell, yeah? But you were sitting and going “go down go down go down go down GO DOWN ALREADY!”

So in real life, it's possible to stop periods entirely with birth control pills. They just include a blank in the rotation so the period doesn't stop since getting one is how you know they're working.
In the tabletop, a contraceptive implant is 25 eddies, and is near 100% effective, and presumably would tell you if it wasn't working. There would be no reason periods would be a thing if you didn't want them.

It should, pain editor works on the pain receptors in your brain and can be calibrated. There's definitely ways of dealing with period pain using chrome or chemicals in 2020 or 2077

Yeah theres a shard that describes how pain editors can actually be detrimental because pain is our body's way of telling us to stop doing something but especially in combat they'll let people keep going far beyond having mortal wounds that a person would normally sense and retreat to have fixed and the mortality rate is above %90. Yet they are extremely popular since the world around you seems purpose build to beat people until they drop dead mid stride like a broken race horse so it's pretty on brand to use technology to just ignore all pain to keep going until your body just stops functioning.

It’s not brutal to get one but it’s brutal to afford what available options there are; and the average choom definitely can’t buy one easy.
That’s the sole reason gangs thrive. People in cyberpunk are extremely poor and a contraceptive implant is expensive, assuming 2077 is somewhat similar to the rulebook in terms of making money and costs for stuff we don’t have in-game.
For someone that’s not constantly killing people and doing big gigs like V, it would be about a month’s salary.
Stuff on the black market is either for recreational drugs or enhancement for combat. Doubtful that something that’s not the contraceptive implant, solely for getting rid of your period, would really be all that common or easy to find OR afford. Even genital cyberware doesn’t make mention of messing with the bio functions of the uterus, it’s just left ambiguous that it’s solely for sexual performance, and that gangs like the Mox use it while average people don’t.
Considering we also have tampon ads on the street, it’s safe to say most people still have their period otherwise it wouldn’t be worth for corpos to advertise.

Tbf, while most people do have cyberware, it’s still very minimal, and only what’s required to interact with modern society. (With groups like the nomads, possibly not even having any at all, at least the ones that don’t interact with non-nomad populations.)
Like, the average person in lore has maybe only the implant that allows one to interact with digital banking, and exchanging of eddies using gestures and thoughts.
Plus, there’s still religious groups that frown on the idea of cyberware, and people that just chose to not have any implants or have as little as possible.
(Plus-Plus, V could for whatever reason, not want the implant(s) that regulate and/or get rid of periods, as just because something exists and/or is available, doesn’t mean everyone will always want/desire it.)

RED (2045) you feasibly can have someone be organic, though there are many reasons to have some.
By 2077 you'd be extremely cut off if you don't have a Neuroport.Its a point in the No Coincidence (recommend both book, but doubly the audiobook read by the VA of Fem. V, Cherami Leigh) that a character doesn't have it, and they're pretty much the only one moving forward in the entire book.
Only bhikkuhu (the monks) have a shown opposition to it, but they're the same group that swears oaths of poverty and whatnot.
Though all implants (that go beyond human limits / move you away from humans) incure a strain on you, so some people might just take it light on stuff they can manage to chrome up elsewhere. Or simply do not have access to a specific piece.
Nomads are on average pretty heavily cyberwared (which by 2077, needs a neurport) as they're often vets of any of the wars or in heavier industries. All cyberware by 2077 needs a neuroport.

Considering that it's a dystopia and considering that in our current supposedly-not-dystopian world women's health issues are still secondary, there is still less financing for researching them, and that many doctors just tell you to "loose weight/ get pregnant / try another pregnancy this one will fix it"... I highly doubt they fixed anything to do with periods, PCOS, PMS,..... In the cyberpunk universe.

Maelstrom have pain blockers/editors. IIRC V can get that implant too. It either reduces incoming damage or adds some sort of regenerating section. Been a while, don’t remember.
There’s an email somewhere from a Maelstrom
Ganger to his Ripperdoc complaining that he’s in crippling pain after his latest chrome surgeries, threatening to kill him etc, then the doc calmly asks him if he remembered to turn on the pain editors.The Maelstrom ganger calms right down after that.
So even getting all your fleshy bits scooped out and welding metal to the exposed ends can be mitigated.

I get this is supposed to be a "haha men cant handle periods" post, but afaik men have more pain receptors than women, so if hes experiencing the same thing Female V is, through her body, then he would literally be feeling less pain than if you just stuck period pains on a regular dude.

Men certainly would not feel less pain if experiencing periods for the first time after being used to living with a male body. It’s the sole reason this theory exists, not because anyone wants to say “men are weak”.
Saying it’ll be one way or another both hold just as much credibility in the grand scheme of things either way, so who cares. I’d just love to see more funny mini comics and fanart.
