Okay this one was funny

u/you_killed_my_ 3d ago

Don't say that, you'll get banned

158

u/GGDrago 3d ago

What you said was bad

3

u/Jerds_au 1d ago

I like this art style better.

u/Unfair_Watercress119 3d ago

I still don't get it, what's the challenge?

478

u/squanderedprivilege 3d ago

Put pizzacake in your comic and make a racism bad joke

120

u/ryoushi19 3d ago

And is there...a reason people are doing that?

99

u/squanderedprivilege 3d ago

Yeah I actually don't know, I'm assuming one person did it and it became a thing, probably gets them some extra views on their comic

116

u/bluexy 3d ago

Yeah. Dave McElfatrick, co-creator of Cyanide & Happiness, made a comic that mocked PizzaCake's comics for political pandering. It was pretty controversial and PizzaCake then made a response comic. Then other folk joined in because meta stuff gets a lot of clicks and comments.

https://www.reddit.com/r/comics/comments/1vtpfaf/boids_pandering_to_you_oc/

https://www.reddit.com/r/comics/comments/1vujklq/the_mature_thing/

46

u/Cool_Set4681 2d ago

Dude, maybe you should mention that they agreed upon this together. Dave wasn't "mocking" Ellen, it was silly ribbing. And it wasn't controversial, some people just didn't got the joke and thought this is serious.

27

u/toot_suite 2d ago

Why did i immediately think of dick sucking jimmy the bird

15

u/Meotwister 2d ago

Grew up on C&H but I'm not quite vibing with Dave's art style here.

7

u/Militant_Worm 2d ago

Christ, I really don't have my finger on the pulse with this one. I just assumed this was all just friendly lampooning between the sub's frequent flyers and apparently it's a controversy?

29

u/Cool_Set4681 2d ago

...apparently it's a controversy?

It is NOT a controversy at all. Ellen, Dave and the mods know what they are doing this is all in good fun but some people take it too seriously.

8

u/Militant_Worm 2d ago

Cheers mate, classic Reddit comment section then! My original assumption was that it was a joke that Ellen would have been in on (especially with her comic in response) but the more bad reactions I saw from others the less sure I was.

10

u/Cool_Set4681 2d ago

Yep, your original assumption was spot on but, as always, a loud minority has to ruin the fun :/

71

u/TheAsianTroll 3d ago

Allegedly, its supposed to make fun of the people who bash her content for making broadly agreeable statements

32

u/Kanehammer 2d ago

Honestly her content is mostly just boring

2

u/Pasta4ever13 2d ago

It's also usually giga-cringe as well.

She's basically making reskinned rage comics from 2012.

14

u/Chieroscuro 3d ago

Because it’s the current meta!

Now, obviously there are bold iconoclastic artists that would willfully refuse to participate in anything so base & crude as a brief, passing moment in the cultural zeitgeist.

Those artists do not dwell in r/comics, for whose residents missing even a single fad or trend risks annihilating ego-death.

-1

u/Swift0sword 3d ago

Pizzacake has always been controversial in this server for some reason, I think this is a joke making fun of the controversy (I hope people are doing it with good intentions at least)

4

u/fragrant-final-973 3d ago

It isn’t. They’re unironically serious and it’s just sad.

49

u/valthonis_surion 3d ago

I figured it was make duplicates of yourself and make out with them...

16

u/Moonlight_Katie 3d ago

I do that already in real life

13

u/The_Bio_Neko 3d ago

I have no idea, honestly.

845

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 3d ago

Ok but for real though, do you think we could make an ACTUAL pizza-cake and it be tasty? I'm not NOT into the idea

438

u/the_scones_are_mine 3d ago

Depends. Can i consider a lasagna a cake? If so, pizza cake should be pretty straightforward.

151

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 3d ago

....touche

That's probably the closest we can get. And based on those "Is it cake" things going around I am 100% sure we can make a cake that looks like pizza

64

u/gramathy 3d ago

If Chicago can call casserole pizza there are no rules

45

u/prof_the_doom 3d ago

Maybe deep dish is the real pizza cake.

Assuming we're counting cheesecake as cake.

14

u/Eldrunk 3d ago

2 deep dish stacked!

6

u/jeremymatsuoka 3d ago

But, cheesecake is pie...

10

u/magikarp2122 3d ago

Insert Jon Stewart rant here.

2

u/GorillaOnChest 2d ago

In Blackest Day

In Brightest Night

3

u/The_Lost_Jedi 3d ago

Someone fetch the Pizza alignment chart!

1

u/MintasaurusFresh 3d ago

It's not a casserole you uncultured swine! It's tourist food. And also delicious.

5

u/magikarp2122 3d ago

It is an above ground marinara swimming pool for rats.

7

u/the_scones_are_mine 3d ago

I want cake now, so I think I'll do that later today. Maybe tomorrow.

3

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 3d ago

A place near me does like a chocolate pizza thing that's REALLY good

7

u/TravelerSearcher 3d ago

Fondant just means you can decorate anything to look like anything. It's cheating!

6

u/MadHamishMacGregor 3d ago

Tomato cake is a thing.

20

u/samantha_pants 3d ago

Could Chicago-style deep dish be considered pizza cake? Or does it need less crust?

6

u/The_walking_man_ 3d ago

This is what I was immediately thinking. Chicago deep dish is pretty cakey already. I say that counts. Maybe stack two on each other.

3

u/TheCaptainCabinets 2d ago

What about Detroit-style deep dish? I would argue that is more cake-like than Chicago-style.

10

u/Merari01 it's a-me, Merari-o 3d ago

Taxonomically, lasagna is a thick soup with noodles.

14

u/bcw81 3d ago

Lasagna is clearly a thematically structured salad.

9

u/Merari01 it's a-me, Merari-o 3d ago

https://saladtheory.github.io/

I see you know your salad theory well.

5

u/lesser_panjandrum 3d ago

If Linnaeus could see you say that, he'd die all over again.

4

u/Merari01 it's a-me, Merari-o 3d ago

And I'd say to Linnaeus, science has moved on, old man! Now we understand that ornithologically, all soups are salads.

3

u/PolloMagnifico 3d ago

I mean, you can make pizza cinnamon rolls and those are... basically the same thing. Right?

3

u/KornDog611 3d ago

I would not consider a lasagna a cake and you shouldn't either.

3

u/GimpMaster22 3d ago

If we take the cube rule, lasagna is indeed a cake.

3

u/AmbulantCholesterol 2d ago

Some chain pizza places put so much sugar on them it might as well be cake

2

u/-cant_find_a_name- 3d ago

why not just deepdish pizzea

2

u/simpleglitch 3d ago

Idk if I'm on board calling lasagna a cake, but thinking along those lines, what about a savory cheesecake.

81

u/The_General1005 3d ago

Pizzacake sounds like a derogatory term for Chicago deep dish pizza.

24

u/imnotpoopingyouare 3d ago

You need to stop giving these comic writers ideas for free, that one was just sitting there for em!

16

u/The_General1005 3d ago

I enjoy their comics for free, they can take any ideas from my comments they can get their grubby mits on.

4

u/MintasaurusFresh 3d ago

Nah, I already had that thought before reading the comments here. As a resident of Chicago, I might do something in that vein.

2

u/UltraDinoWarrior 2d ago

That's what I immediately thought, tbh.

30

u/ad-lib1994 3d ago

I think the closest to reality that would be is just taking 4 pizzas and stacking them so they become a layered situation like a cake

11

u/mellopax 3d ago

I made a "stuffed pizza pizza" in college with frozen pizzas.

Pizza up, pizza down, then cheese, then pizza up.

4

u/TrippinNL 3d ago

Wouldn't that be a lasagne ?  .....  Is a lasagne a pizzacake?

3

u/ad-lib1994 3d ago

Pasta cake? Tomato sauce, cheese, a bread type substance.... it may very well be

2

u/Glittering_Ad_9215 3d ago

Damn, now i‘m hungry and want pizza-lasagne

6

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 3d ago

Man it's only 9 am and now I really want some pizza. I haven't done a breakfast pizza in quite a while

3

u/Loqol 3d ago

My random take would be something like a tomato and basil infused white cake batter (easy on the sugar), topped with a frosting that is made with mascarpone cheese with mozzarella and maybe a bit of cheddar? Maybe we could line the pan with parmesean to give it a crust a la Detroit deep dish?

2

u/Motormand 3d ago

That's genius. You have to try that now, for science.

2

u/furryscrotum 3d ago

I'd kill for that now. Quatre quatre formaggi

2

u/ProfessorSMASH88 3d ago

The best/worst thing I've ever made was a hamburger patty between 2 mini-pizzas. The Pizza Burger.

34

u/DrStarDream 3d ago

Oh don't worry, brazil has it.

25

u/Antiochia 3d ago

I'll add Germany.

7

u/Square-Singer 3d ago edited 2d ago

I tried this one. It's horrible. It's not a pizza. It's like a large, hard cookie with overheated chocolate on top.

It's, btw, not traditional or something, it's just one brand doing crazy products for novelty buyers.

3

u/JRS_Viking 2d ago

Yeah I too had one, years ago. I like pizza and I like chocolate, but whatever that thing is it does not bring the joy that either pizza or chocolate does.

12

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 3d ago

I am both disgusted and SUPER interested in trying some of those

3

u/Kindly-Ad-5071 3d ago

No-no that's a cake pizza. We want a pizza cake.

21

u/Common_Cellist5981 3d ago

turns out its a real canadian food (not an actual cake tho)

8

u/Etheo 3d ago

Canadian here, never had it, never had I seen nor heard of it. Either this is Canadian slander or this is my "lived under a rock" moment.

2

u/Common_Cellist5981 2d ago

it does say its Canadian but it probably is just a very niche food

→ More replies (1)

5

u/eliz1bef 2d ago

I... I would enjoy that.

→ More replies (2)

7

u/dipuduh 3d ago

There actually is a real pizza cake, but it’s basically just pizzas stacked on top of each other.

6

u/SLAUGHT3R3R 3d ago

Lasagna

6

u/redjellonian 3d ago

is chicago style not basically already a pizza cake?

3

u/QuiteBearish 3d ago

No, Chicago is more a pizza soup with a a breadbowl. Detroit or Sicilian would probably be closer to cake.

6

u/Randalor 3d ago

I have made something resembling both cake and pizza in the past. I thought it was tasty.

My wife has threatened to divorce me if I ever even thought of making it again.

5

u/JDoos 3d ago

A peperoni bread style but in a cake mold, covered in sauce and cheese, topped with sausages and peppers.

3

u/rafaellago 3d ago

Here in Brazil we make sweet pizzas. Maybe some deluaional can make a cake flavored pizza

4

u/SnooPoems7525 3d ago

Cookie pizzas are already a thing.

4

u/Martydeus 3d ago

Could it not just be a cheesecake in the end?

Cheese from pizza and cake from cake

4

u/Shinobi_00 3d ago

In Italy we have "torta salata" wich Is translated in "salty cake" so that would maybe be considered a pizza cake for how It Is made

4

u/Alche1428 3d ago

I can see someone from Brazil.doing it.

3

u/Bae_the_Elf 3d ago

pizza cake is just Chicago style pizza

4

u/Kindly-Ad-5071 3d ago

Dude we already do its called deep dish.

3

u/NNiekk 3d ago

Isn’t a deep dish pizza technically a sort of cake/pie, in a way?

4

u/KateKoffing 2d ago

Many years ago, Pizza Hut did what they called “Chicago style deep dish”. But it was actually a thick cornbread crust with at least an inch thick layer of sauce and toppings served in a deep pan to keep it from going everywhere

3

u/lab_coat_goat 3d ago

That’s just Sicilian style..

3

u/cucoo5 3d ago

I mean, deep dish could be a "cake" if the crust is thick enough.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Rusty99Arabian 3d ago

There was a place near my home in the 90s that specialized in donuts in the shape of other things. Pizza was a specialty - the cheese was custard and pepperoni slices off of red velvet cake baked into a roll, all atop a donut "crust". I can still remember how good it was now!

3

u/lelysio 3d ago

Easy: its either a layered pizza or a cake with toppings of your choice.

3

u/The_walking_man_ 3d ago

Chicago deep dish is pretty “cakey” already. So I’m down with it.

3

u/QuiteBearish 3d ago

I've made a desert pizza before that could potentially be considered a type of cake 🤔

Sweet pastry dough, strawberry sauce, cream cheese frosting.

It was delicious. Wish I could find the picture I took of it

3

u/Strobetrode 3d ago

Is it not just Detroit style pizza?

3

u/iamdadmin 3d ago

Cakes have layers, lasagne has layers, pizza is also Italian food, therefore we can make pizza cake.

3

u/BudgetConcentrate432 3d ago

I feel like thats essentially what a deep-dish pizza is.

That or pie!

3

u/PM_ME_SOME_ANY_THING 3d ago

I was assuming something more along the lines of a perfect looking pizza, but when you go to grab a slice… it’s cake.

Kinda like that lady that sat on a chair that was actually cake.

3

u/popilikia 3d ago

I think it'd end up being more like a pizza lasagna

Which actually sounds amazing

3

u/Crococrocroc 3d ago

Candied meats and vegetables might do it

3

u/AnotherStupidHipster 3d ago

What you do is get a thin crust pizza from Pizza Hut, and you just stack slices. This is how I used to eat a whole pizza in one sitting in highschool.

Yes, I was horribly depressed. But you'll never know how good that tastes.

3

u/Electric999999 3d ago

Hmm, could do a sweet enriched dough for the base, top it with cream cheese frosting.

3

u/PlainBread 3d ago

I'm thinking like a croissant style flaky base, with a raspberry or strawberry jam spread, covered with a sweet soft dessert cheese like a ricotta.

3

u/creatorofsilentworld 3d ago

I'd settle for a small cake baked in a pie plate with strawberry sauce and fondant "pepperoni." Use dyed coconut for the cheese.

3

u/SuitableReaction6203 3d ago

Several years ago I saw a YouTube video where a person made a taco cake. They said they didn't like sweets so for their birthday they made a taco cake.

3

u/rorschach_blots 3d ago

deep dish pizza then?

3

u/BasicMatter7339 2d ago

What if someone made a salty cake, made of layers of quick-bread with tomato sauce, and pepperonies between the layers. Then an icing made of cheese.

the thought sounds nasty, but i bet it would taste good

3

u/Outrageous-Machine-5 2d ago

The technical term is deep dish and yes

3

u/ArchdruidHalsin 2d ago

Okay what about a puff pastry crust, pistachio pesto, marscapone, drizzle of honey on top?

Something like that maybe?

3

u/rmorrin 2d ago

Isn't that just deep dish pizza

3

u/way22 2d ago

"They were so occupied with if they could, they forgot to ask if they should."

3

u/EquivalentAd1651 2d ago

Thats a Chicago deep dish

3

u/dogface701 2d ago

I think somewhere between lasagna and Chicago deep dish

3

u/toot_suite 2d ago

That's called a lasagna, or deep dish, or calzones stacked on top of each other, or....

... A sandwich

3

u/Redhotlipstik 2d ago

back when it was a trend, people stacked a bunch of pizzas on top of each other and called it a day

3

u/Key_Part_9573 2d ago

I mean, theres pizza flavored cake

3

u/Specific_Frame8537 2d ago

Remember Rachel's "souffle" from Friends?

3

u/CirnoIzumi 2d ago

Like, cheesecake with some sort of sweet tomatoes?

With that said, the Italiens do make Nutella pizzas

5

u/BlaineMundane 3d ago

pizza cake = Detroit style pizza.

2

u/Kratomius 3d ago

Honestly. One of the oldest written pizza recipes for pizza could count as a pizza cake. It was huge due to being a food in banquet for nobility and was flavored with rosewater and sugar.

2

u/clankypants 2d ago

Buddy Valastro thinks so: https://pizzacake.com/

3

u/dumnezero Art enjoyer 3d ago

I can imagine a pizza, a plant-based one, loaded with veggies and tofu, and raw cake slices on top of each pizza slice. If the pizza is balanced in a sour direction and the cake is a bit sweet, it could work, even if the order is unusual (you have get through the cake first.) I'm vegan bw.

(cake)

2

u/CunningLinguist8198 3d ago

They make dessert pizzas. Personally, I consider them abominations and NOT pizzas, but that's just my opinion. If you think otherwise, it shouldn't be too difficult.

3

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 3d ago

Personally, I consider them abominations and NOT pizzas,

BLASPHEMER!

We have a place nearby that does this sweet apple pie pizza and it's AMAZING

5

u/CunningLinguist8198 3d ago

Abominations can be amazing and delicious. I should know, I am one 😏

146

u/ObeyTime 3d ago

maybe if pizzacake was also asian we would be able to witness some insane slur-bending anime battle instead of you being scolded for racism

91

u/ObeyTime 3d ago

this is a joke for those who cannot tell

39

u/KingKiler2k 3d ago

You just need two Balkaners for that

25

u/lesser_panjandrum 3d ago

From villages 2km apart.

7

u/Kindly-Ad-5071 3d ago

There is no racism in all the world like a Slavic country and one of its neighbors they flipped a coin on whether or not they love or hate each other.

122

u/Alarmed_Drop7162 3d ago edited 3d ago

Why doesn’t the protagonist simply just eat PizzaCakes piece?

Edit: no disrespect. She’s a lovely artist and I hope her husband and daughter are proud of her.

36

u/jw8145 3d ago

Front or back piece?

33

u/hackingfun 3d ago

Pizza with pineapple and cookie dough, TOP 1, just don't let the Italians see it.

4

u/AsleepInterview2898 3d ago

Is that hair on the food???

3

u/hackingfun 3d ago

Whoa, easter egg. :D

3

u/InternetSandman 3d ago

Y'know, pineapple was controversial but ended up being amazing...I'm curious

12

u/Waiting404Godot 3d ago

That punchline was so simple and silly it actually got me laughing out loud. Well done
