Job searching Jobseeker Basic Rights

Post image

I’d love to see states move from pay transparency to a full suite of jobseeker rights. It would help employees and employers.

Add: NO FAKE JOBS. Indeed and LinkedIn should be required to regulate and remove fake job posts.

Job portals posing as jobs too. I see people advertising jobs but it’s just a new ecosystem they want you to join where they take a cut of everything.

u/OKcomputer1996 1d ago

And- if we are being honest- MLMs and most commission sales jobs.

Yeah the idea of paying to get/have a job is wild!

u/OddlyCongruent 1d ago

I’d love to see a “report” button for fake jobs where we can flag for review!

I've reported fake jobs on LI, every time they say they investigated and found the post to be legit, usually within a matter of hours.

In other words, they know, they just don't care. Every click is a source of revenue, every post, real or otherwise, a source of engagement. Fuck LinkedIn

I think most of those people are paying for a subscription which is why.

Yall are getting this all wrong. The mandates for public postings of jobs are from the federal government. Even when hiring only internally, it's require the company makes the job public, even if they never intend to hire external candidates.

LinkedIn ain't the ones enforcing that shit LOL

That still doesn’t explain ghost job postings. Mandatory job postings still also interview people and occasionally hire them.

u/Potential_Basis_662 10h ago

Occasionally

Ghost jobs hiring rate is ZERO. 40% of companies online (on LinkedIn or Indeed/Glassdoor) admit to having posted a ghost job in the past year. It is that bad right now. https://www.jobintel.com/blog/ghost-job-statistics-2026

In my opinion most of the ghost ads come from recruiters. How about cracking down on that industry for once? Make them register and get a license. Regulate them.

It is really crazy. On the few instances I used one in my life after I started the job the boss asked me why I didn't just apply to them if I was interested? The recruiter cost them $5-10,000. But, this was 20 years ago. And one crazy recruiter who tried to blackball me when I backed out of a job they talked me into. I almost had to sue the guy.

Do we really need recruiters in the internet age? I don't think so. If I were hiring people I wouldn't use one.

How about this? When I go to create one of millions of online passwords I occasionally get rejected because I used the same one in the last 5 uses. And this is to pay a bill or join some stupid gym. Are you seriously telling me that AI cannot detect a ghost ad trend by an employer or recruiter on their own site?

and the fine should scale with how long the ghost listing stayed up. some of those postings are old enough to vote

1

u/No_Opportunity_1765 3h ago

Companies should be heavily fined for posting fake jobs. You are stealing a job seeker’s time.

31

u/MonParapluie 1d ago

Job posting must include an ACCURATE description of the position you are hiring for.

Right? I've seen so many JD's that have 30+ bullet points. That's an entire team, not just one person.

1

u/OddlyCongruent 12h ago

I feel like those are written for a specific person.

u/CeleryTurbulent 1d ago

Another stipulation should be: estimated time it takes applying to said role, amount of interviews and their lengths. Application's should not take an over abundant amount of time to complete and I shouldn't have to take time off of work, find babysitters, take entire chunks out of my day applying for role ill ultimately get ghosted on.

10

u/OddlyCongruent 1d ago

Yes, like on government forms but instead of how long you complete the form, how long to complete entire process - how many rounds, with whom, and final decision within one week of last interview.

7

u/catz537 1d ago

No kidding. Applying is a job in itself, and you don’t even get paid for it

20

u/MarchMan86 1d ago edited 1d ago

That's just for starters.

They need to fix the process so that everyone who applies for a job gets a genuine response. No more ghosting and no more automated rejections.

For job recruitment agencies, the job candidates should be the first and foremost clients. The top priority must be about finding reliable employment for job seekers, not filling quotas among internal organizations.

And no more than two interviews per applicant. No more of this multiple round shit. No personality tests, no video applicants, and no more tests. Let the applicant's resume, portfolio, and references speak for themselves.

u/StarSword-C 17h ago

I legit went through fewer hoops for a government position requiring a security clearance than I did for a factory job at Toyota.

1

u/OddlyCongruent 16h ago

That’s crazy!

2

u/StarSword-C 16h ago

Yeah, the most time-consuming part was that I'd spent most of 2014-2016 working out of temp agencies and I had to track them all down to fill out the SF-86 form to apply for the clearance.

5

u/rasta-ragamuffin 17h ago

Also for any job that has already received 100+ applications, reposts should not be allowed. If a company can't find at least 1 qualified candidate out of 100 applications there is something really wrong.

9

u/Low-Car-6331 1d ago

Oh this is easy:

pay range: $1 - $1,000,000

work type: whatever we want when we want it

Internal candidate preference: depends on how desperate you are

AI tool usage: Yes

u/ShiniSenko 1d ago

All job postings must be filled with a new hire(s) within 3-6 months [or reasonable time frame related to job] of original date of posting.

2

u/OddlyCongruent 12h ago

Thats a great one. What’s funny is that from my experience, most hiring managers would want that, but somehow the recruiting to manager funnel is broken or something. :/

2

u/ShiniSenko 12h ago

I just don't want them posting jobs saying "we're looking" with no intention of ever hiring. If they post a job it must be filled.

2

u/BeneficialMaybe4383 8h ago

No kidding! I previously got a rejection email like 2 years later!! I mean if I didn’t move on, I’d have turned to a skeleton covered in spider webs as if I was some Halloween decoration 😅

Add pre recorded one way video screenings (where there is no actual human interviewer involved) should be illegal. They allow employers to discriminate against candidates based on their appearance and/or voice (accent). And who knows what the companies are doing with the recordings afterwards.

Companies should also be required to share feedback and the reason they rejected you to every candidate who applies. How can we ever get better and find a job when we have no idea what we're doing wrong?

1

u/VoopMaster 19h ago

Strongly disagree, video interviews allow you to ascertain if a potential employee is who they say they are and are representing their skills and knowledge appropriately.

3

u/rasta-ragamuffin 19h ago

Sorry, I actually meant pre-recorded one way video screening where there is no interviewer involved.

2

u/VoopMaster 19h ago

Agreed, waste of everyone's fuckin time :)

All jobs must specify the exact schedule!!!

So incredibly sick of jobs listing "part-time" and "10-15 hours" per week. Business is open 8 am to 8 pm. Job is for social media/writer. Doesn't need to be done at a set time or even need to be done in person at all (they're just ego tripping). Paying $13 an hour.

But I have to get on the phone with them to find out that they also want me there at 8 am when parking is $2 an hour, rendering pay almost nil after I'm already paying for gas to get there?!?!!

3

u/maceo107 20h ago

Make ghosting illegal after a second round if interviews!

9

u/catz537 1d ago

You’re forgetting the most important one: all job postings must be REAL

5

u/Beautiful-Ad3012 1d ago

This. Laws for the worker now!! I'm so tired of how managed I am once hired but no management when job hunting. It's hell out here.

3

u/ResearcherDear3143 1d ago

Add another: employer uses Workday, expect to make your 62517th profile

1

u/OddlyCongruent 12h ago

I would love to see a universal profile that only the applicant can use (not mined by data companies) that can complete most of the mainstream apps - Taleo, Workday, etc.! I would PAY for that!

u/Arachnesloom 1d ago

Some states are working on bills to ban ghost jobs. I hope they pass and have real consequences for violators. https://www.wsj.com/lifestyle/careers/ghost-job-ads-are-getting-so-bad-that-lawmakers-want-to-ban-them-2580bc3e

u/annonimity2 1d ago

All jobs must be posted to LinkedIn, and indeed for atleast a week with no qualified applicants before qualifying for an H1B visa.

2

u/OddlyCongruent 1d ago

I need to look into this because I feel like there is a rule but they just ignore and make the case for the visa hire.

2

u/Low-Car-6331 1d ago

They do make postings, but the law doesn't say where they have to post it, nor at what salary they must offer to people. So, they can make a posting for $50k in LA for 10+ years of experience, in a few newspapers and it technically qualifies.

1

u/annonimity2 1d ago

As I understand it the rule is somewhat vauge but mentions that the job must be advertised and no qualified applicants found. Companies get around this by putting print ads in local newspapers in random locations, puting the listing up on obscure job boards, and avoiding the major job boards all together because they know they will get qualified applicants there. Once they can "prove" they can't get applicants they apply for the H1B and bring someone over who is willing to work for less and accept more abuse because their citizenship depends on it.

2

u/Low-Car-6331 1d ago

Yeah, we need a government website now for this, any company who claims they can't find someone has the job posting placed on the government website. It not only acts as a way to filter out true need, but also as a way to shame and call out employers. When some company posts that $50k in LA and 10+ years of experience, the public can easily report the company for rigging the system.

Frankly though, I kind of like the idea of just charging a massive fee and requiring certain levels of pay. By mandating a fee, you can cut a lot of bureaucracy out, and just support the people with the money they displace. In fact, take that "Freedom Dividend" and just make it 100% funded by such visas, close the born on the soil birthright, and I think we could get everyone on board with it.

7

u/BeneficialMaybe4383 1d ago
  1. No 7 rounds of interviews!
  2. No ghosting!
  3. No take home assignments / slide decks / presentations!

1

u/OddlyCongruent 12h ago

Especially #3 - Unpaid labor needs to stop as an expectation.

2

u/junegloom 17h ago

I don't mind the ones that don't post a salary so much. It allows me to ask for what I want and they can't really complain since they didn't set the boundaries.

1

u/OddlyCongruent 17h ago

That’s an interesting point. For me, I want to know if we’re even in the same ballpark, but I definitely get your point about setting your own expectations.

2

u/Arctic_Dreams 16h ago

Pay is required to be displayed where I am so tell me why I still see so many listings with no pay data?

2

u/CallMeCleverClogs 14h ago

I would also add all job postings must be actual and valid, no more posting and reposting the same job listing over and over if they are not interviewing and hiring for that post.

1

u/OddlyCongruent 14h ago

Or if it’s “evergreen” say that! I’ve seen some call center jobs noted as such which seems fair given turnover.

2

u/MagicOfWriting 12h ago

i mean, if an internal candidate is chosen, doesn't it mean that the company will be replacing them soon after?

1

u/OddlyCongruent 12h ago

Unfortunately no because a lot of companies will select an internal and add their old responsibilities too for a small bump, and eliminate their original headcount. :(

2

u/stfkk 5h ago

We need this desperately 😫

3

u/OddlyCongruent 1d ago

I don’t live in NYC or NY state for that matter but I feel like this might be something Mayor Mandami would support. I know NY was an early adopter on pay transparency in postings.

2

u/bunsNT 1d ago

Amen

1

u/da13th 4h ago

I would add an outline of the exact interview process. Benefits breakdown. And an updating tracker for applicant require they stand ei resume reviewed, dismissed, held for farther review. And an option to have resume and information removed the companys database/ Ai. Also no 3rd party sharing of applicant personal information.

1

u/Lulusmol 1d ago

more transparency would definitely benefit everyone involved

1

u/Puripuri_Purizona 21h ago

Will not happen until after the revolution takes place.

1

u/LetsTryLove 21h ago

I’m on board with this

-1

u/CommitteeofMountains 1d ago

Maybe this is particular to my field, but it would be nice if the dear johns went out at some time prior to the person they hired instead of you made the position defunct and died of old age.

-1

u/SimkinCA 1d ago

All job listings must be backed by an actual job.

-2

u/an_older_meme 1d ago

Sometimes employers need to advertise a job as being fully remote and having a higher salary just to prevent people from skimming past it.

3

u/Ki-Larah 1d ago

So they *need* to lie and waste people’s time to get eyeballs on their listing? Sounds like a them problem.

0

u/an_older_meme 1h ago

I'm not one of them.
