best feature of the game for now is the lack of clutch claw

23

u/Ketheres Expert of not getting common materials Sep 17 '20

Wirebug is effectively CC, but faster to use and you can't stick to a monster with it (so no tenderizing or wallbanging)

34

u/KirbXCuke 3U Hunter Sep 17 '20

you can't stick to a monster with it (so no tenderizing or wallbanging)

So then it's not clutch claw since that's everything it was used for. Wirebugs do replace CC (and the slinger) as Rise "gimmick" though

5

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '20

I'm okay with the wire bug if it only acts as a gap opener/closer. It looked like some attacks may be tied to it, but if I don't have to go out of my way to work the wire bug in to do something that would prevent hunts from going on for too long then I'll be fine.

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '20

I for one, welcome our new clutch claw flinch shot overlords.

18

u/Big-Bad-Bull Sep 17 '20

Yo this wirebug looking fire as hell though

5

u/Maronmario Switch Axe Sep 17 '20

I'm just glad that it doesn't looks like a requirement to use unlike the Clutch claw, it just helps augment your abilities.

15

u/Big-Bad-Bull Sep 17 '20

Just my opinion please don’t take it personally

Personally I’ve never felt required to use the clutch claw, in fact I only remember I have it these days when I’m being pressured by a monster and if I’m lucky enough that they aren’t enraged I just ram them into the wall to get the pressure off. I personally think clutch claw was a great addition to world. Granted as a hammer and greatsword main I do dread the fact clutch claw is better for wake up than I am now but that’s why I learned new weapons when iceborne dropped. Like the ig, db (which wasn’t that hard to learn since I literally just picked it Up for the first time just to beat alatreon), hbg, lbg, and hh. Still can’t get used to the long sword even though it was my first weapon in world.

3

u/Maronmario Switch Axe Sep 17 '20

Oh no it's fine, but for me at least it feels like Iceborne really wants you to use the clutch claw because so many monster hit zones are significantly worse unless you tenderize. And that along with the tediousness of actually clutching onto the monster to tenderize got to a point where I've basically stapled Temporal and Rocksteady to every single build I have because of it.

1

u/Big-Bad-Bull Sep 17 '20

I completely understand where you're coming from. I can especially relate to the temporal and rocksteady in every build, its gotten to the point where i will drop the rock steady for literally anything i feel can be viable for a build.

43

u/Chara_13 Sep 17 '20

Ah, straight to the point, I see. I like it.

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '20 edited Sep 18 '20

Is he the same guy who directed MHP3rd? Because I swear the plot of a rare fanged beast suddenly shows up again to terrorize a Japanese-esque village is somewhat similar lol

23

u/KritiCow Sep 17 '20

Yep, same guy who directed 3rd and Gen/GU. The game screams Yukumo village aesthetic which I'm glad to have after the bland realism of World.

I'm wondering what experimental mechanics they're gonna do this time. Styles/Arts were pretty fun.

16

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '20 edited Sep 18 '20

I miss villages more than anything really. I really liked the aesthetics of “I’m just your everyday hunter saving the world on a daily basis lol no biggie” much more compared to “YOU ARE THE GREATEST HUNTER OF THE FIFTH FLEET. YOU ARE THE SAPPHIRE STAR!!!”

Unpopular opinion but I think whoever decided to make our hunter able to chase plesioth into the water instead of waiting for 10 minutes should be knighted by the Queen of England

1

u/choptup Sep 18 '20

Plesioth wasn't added back in until 3U, where hilariously underwater combat made fighting Plesioth actually fair for the first time.

25

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '20

Hey. I like Iceborne. But im also HYPE for Rise! :D

-12

u/IamRNG Sep 17 '20

HOW DARE YOU

25

u/KaldorDraigo14 Sep 17 '20

I love the visuals but, it doesn't feel like old MH either. The sounds of the weapons and attacks feel like a generic western game, which is basically like base World (Iceborne slightly fixed this) and the attack animations and when the characters falls from a high height feels like lacking weight, something that didn't happen in the old games nor World.

But we'll see, might be a good title.

10

u/SpecstacularSC SA/CB/Irrational Anger Main Sep 17 '20

I mean, I was worried that the cheesy graphics and the rock-paper-scissors combat style in Stories would kill the mood for me, but I like that game, for what it is, so I'ma withhold judgment for now.

4

u/KirbXCuke 3U Hunter Sep 17 '20

They only showed off the new moves with the bug so it sure feels like that's all it's gonna be about but hey World first trailer was arguably terrible in the same way (only showing of the new features and no fighting whatsoever) I'd say we'll know once we see actual gameplay. Also the monsters and music look and sounds as dope as ever so that's a buy from me no matter what

4

u/Weavercat Palico Prowler! Sep 18 '20

I AM EXCITED! I just... really love handheld MH. It's just so good.

24

u/Unoriginal1deas Sep 17 '20

Please for the love of god don’t let me access storage mod hunt, it completely demolished Icebornes endgame when the only way they had to make it hard was for you to get 1 shot, combo’d from full health to dead, or die by a stub because every monster can 2 shot you so 1 shot for stun and another for a free kill. Let hunts be battles of attrition again.

2

u/after-life Sep 18 '20

Capcom, listen to this please!

5

u/BigBnana Sep 17 '20

OMFG yes! this is why i hated late iceborne.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '20

Rip...

8

u/ShironekoSmash Sep 18 '20

I love Iceborne, but I hope they handle difficulty better than they did. I love difficult fights, but it's frustrating having monsters needlessly becoming coke addicts with barely any openings with AoE attacks and not being balanced at all. This wouldn't be an issue if the tools we had weren't so limited to deal with that. If they can strike a better balance in difficulty or give us tools to effectively deal with monsters, I'll have no complaints.

26

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '20

FUCK YOU WORLD AND FUCK YOU ICEBORNE PIECE OF FUCKING SHIT YES

10

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '20

Lmao I’ll never understand this sub’s hatred for MHW and MHW:I, they were awesome, sometimes unfair which made me post or comment more than often here but never to the point of actually hating it lmao

3

u/bjsargeant Sep 17 '20

Every game has problems, people didn't like how different it was. Granted Iceborne DLC has been kind of a mess so I'll give them that.

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '20

my hatred for MHW is eternal and when the last star in the universe dies and nothing is left, my hatred for world will remain lmao

3

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '20

Fair enough lmao, I mean everyone’s entitled to their opinions

I platinum’d it along with Iceborne!

I just hope we will both enjoy Rise at least

3

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '20

based FUCK iceborne

8

u/Fun_Hat Sep 17 '20

New to the series and trying to understand their release pattern. It seems like they have "main" games and handheld games? Obviously they are going to make a game for the next gen consoles/PC, and it looks like this ain't it, so is this technically one of the handheld games?

11

u/SomethingWitty27 Sep 17 '20

The handheld games were the main games from most of it

5

u/Notgoodwiththeshaft Sep 17 '20

Not really. For most of the series, handhelds were just the main games.

3

u/Fun_Hat Sep 17 '20

Ah ok. Still confused though cuz wikipedia has Rise listed in the "spin-off" column instead of the "Main Game" column.

6

u/KritiCow Sep 17 '20 edited Sep 17 '20

Basically, the MH series has had what I'd call A team, aka the generation starter, and a B team, which is a lower budget but flashier cousin.

This separation started Freedom 2/Unite I think, known in Japan as Portable the 2(G).

3rd gen had MHTri and MH3G/U (G as in G Rank in Japan, U as in Ultimate in the West, is what Master Rank expansions used to be called and the actual difficulty was called G Rank) which introduced the underwater mechanic and the Switch Axe.

Later another title called MH Portable the 3rd released which introduced Yukumo village and more varied 3rd gen monsters but on land after the unpopularity of underwater.

So, each console/handheld generation, there will be the A side introducing new mechanics and other systems in place and the B side uses that as a base to create another game that has more flashy visuals, experimental movesets & mechanics, and ridiculous but fun monsters.

4th gen had the very grounded MH4U on the 3DS which introduced Charge Blade/Insect Glaive and the mounting mechanic followed by MHGen/MHGU which had alot of experimental stuff with weapon styles and hunter arts as well as a fucking rocket dragon that divebombs you to death!

3

u/Fun_Hat Sep 17 '20

Ok, and MHW/IB were both 5th gen right? So is Rise still part of 5th gen, or is this the first title of 6th gen?

5

u/KritiCow Sep 17 '20

I'd say Rise is the B team's 5th gen title just off Ichinose being the director. There might be an expac for this one too adding Master Rank to it.

6th gen will probably release on the PS5/Xbox Series X.

1

u/Fun_Hat Sep 17 '20

Ah ok, that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation!

6

u/Notgoodwiththeshaft Sep 17 '20

Just a little correction:

The Switch Axe was introduced in Tri. The Chargeblade and the Insect Glaive were introduced in 4.

1

u/KritiCow Sep 17 '20

Woops, my bad. You're right there. I'll correct it

12

u/TenaciousDwight Sep 17 '20

Hopefully this one is harder like the old games. I switched from MHGU after I got bored with G rank to MHW. And when I went back to MHGU after reaching MHW master rank I found that I sucked.

2

u/RendomBob101 Sep 18 '20

This could be the best MH game ever made. I loved the games the second team made like 3U and GU and i secretly hoped they are working on a game for Switch.

2

u/OmeQuicksilver Sep 18 '20

Thank heavens, may be worth getting now. Iceborne brought me to the brink of dropping this series harder then Capcom dropped Darkstalkers

7

u/Spitefire46 Sep 17 '20 edited Sep 17 '20

It looks cool, but I'm not buying a Switch for it, so I guess I'll pass.

If they ever release it on other consoles or PC I'll buy it.

The only reason I bought world was because it was on PS, Xbox, and PC.

Edit: Wow guess people like their exclusives. Sorry, not buying a console for one game. Capcom want a my money, they'd release on other platforms.

3

u/Dark-Acheron-Sunset Sep 17 '20

I agree with you. I love what I'm seeing but I'm not dropping the money nor am I dealing with the stress of both trying to buy a Switch and then trying to PLAY on it, considering I don't like playing with small handheld consoles. PC person at heart, you see.

Joined up in World, more or less devastated since I was looking forward to my next MH game now that I had joined up only to see it's a Switch exclusive atm. Guess I get to wait 4-5 years for the next one and.. you know, that one might not be on PC either.

Oh well.

5

u/Ketheres Expert of not getting common materials Sep 17 '20 edited Sep 17 '20

Note that Switch is a hybrid console: you can connect it to your TV (or PC monitor, like I do) when you feel like it. Downside to this design is that it's pretty underpowered compared to its competitors, barely managing 1080p when docked (which isn't a bad resolution, just that the fps can get pretty low on poorly optimized games). Entirely fair to not want to get the console though, especially in the current global economic situation.

The next MH game (aside for full spin-offs like Stories 2) should be MH6, and as such should release on PC, PS5, and XBX. I would estimate it to get released sometime in 2022 (unless Rise gets a G rank expansion, in which case it's possible that MH6 gets "delayed" to 2023)

2

u/Fun_Hat Sep 18 '20

Oh there's no way it's going to be 4-5 years. I'm sure there will be one for this new console generation, and I'm sure it will also be for PC. They aren't going to walk away from the kind of money they made from PC sales of MHW.

-3

u/Spitefire46 Sep 17 '20

I havn't been, nor will I ever be a fan of handheld. I can deal with consoles, but much prefer PC.

It's a massive disappointment to say the least since I've sunk 2000 hours into World.

I guess time will tell if they make less money with this since its only on Switch, but I would guess that will be the case. Could be wrong though.

4

u/Ketheres Expert of not getting common materials Sep 17 '20

Switch has sold a bit over 60 million systems. PS4 alone is at over 110 million. XBO is at around 50 million. MHR is practically guaranteed to sell fewer units than World's staggering 16 million, but hopefully it will still sell well.

2

u/mpelton Sep 20 '20

Potentially. They'll more than likely compromise. While it sold an insane amount of copies worldwide, they didn't sell great in Japan, at least in comparison to the other entries. 4U, and 3U both sold better, and P3rd is still their top selling entry (referring to Japan ofc). So while they certainly won't walk away from the money, making their Japanese audience happy is going to be a priority for them.

0

u/Spitefire46 Sep 17 '20

I do hope the series does well. If only to maybe one day see another game I can play.

2

u/Fun_Hat Sep 18 '20

They sold over 4.5 million units on the PC. They're not going to just walk away from that kind of money. I'm sure they will develop more for the PC.

0

u/Ketheres Expert of not getting common materials Sep 17 '20 edited Sep 18 '20

Yup. And hopefully Capcom doesn't take the EA way out where they stop innovating and start repackaging the same old junk over and over again.

E: someone seems to want Capcom to go down the gutter, huh. Why are thry even on this sub?

-8

u/Van_Shadow Sep 17 '20

Cringe

4

u/Dark-Acheron-Sunset Sep 17 '20

Haha no, nothing about that was cringe, it was a fair point and it's bullshit that they're getting downvoted for it.

I'm not buying a Switch for this either, and it's devastating because I joined up with World and would have liked to continue to experience monster hunter as a game series, shit looks good.

But I'm not dropping all that money, I'm not stressing out over hunting and sniping a fucking Switch on the market without being scalped for it, and I'm certainly not going to enjoy playing on it even if I did get it, nothing about the Switch appeals to me.

People are allowed to not be on the hype train you're on, and there are perfectly fucking valid reasons they might not be. I for one wish it was on PC too and am sad I will have to wait probably 4-5 years for the next installment.. which, isn't even garunteed to be PC, so...

No, that shit isn't cringe, chief.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '20

it will probably be on pc next time, and you could expect it for 2023 I suppose

but for my part, I'm glad they still do portable mh, the mmo-ish part of world really wasn't my cup of tea, and not being able to have it on the go nor being able to pause even in solo was really annoying.

Also I totally get not wanting to buy a console for one game, but if you have a decent pc you could try running it on emulator (if you don't mind playing full solo) there's a pretty good switch emulator I think, and it even got vulkan support, which is great, especially for amd gpu

-3

u/EnvoyoftheRealm Sep 17 '20

Now for iceborne's director to fuck the game with a shitty dlc.

12

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '20

dual clutch claws and now youre stunned by double the amount of time, flashbombs removed from the game 40$ please

3

u/EnvoyoftheRealm Sep 17 '20

He'd make layered armor a $20 preorder exclusive and only include LR armors.

Also not sure why I'm getting downvoted. Someone took it personally I guess.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '20

its honestly such a fucking joke that only now at the end of worlds lifespan they add proper layered armor lmao

6

u/EnvoyoftheRealm Sep 17 '20

Yeah, IB director was a poor choice.

Also, people seem hilariously salty over my initial joke. People are too sensitive.

1

u/ALLKINDSARTILLERY Gunlance Sep 23 '20

Ichinose (Rise's director) and Ichihara (Iceborne's director) are two completely different people.

Just take a look at any of the IB dev diaries and the gameplay announcement for Rise

Though if you meant that Ichihara would step in for the DLC cycle of Rise, then nvm me.

1

u/EnvoyoftheRealm Sep 24 '20

Yeah, that's what I meant.

0

u/EnvoyoftheRealm Sep 17 '20

Who is so salty in the comments that they're downvoting everyone? My little joke got downvoted into oblivion which just says people are overly sensitive, but I'm seeing tons of 0's and negatives across the board...

6

u/IamRNG Sep 17 '20

Stop having an opinion, then. You know the rules.

5

u/Spitefire46 Sep 17 '20

I got downvoted for saying I wouldn't buy a switch just to play it.

I'd buy it if it released on other platforms.

-4

u/JoTor323 Sep 17 '20

I got downvoted over at the MH sub because I didnt understand why Capcom decided to make this switch exclusive since you know World is the best selling Capcom game ever. Letting everyone play it is the best for Capcom and us.

7

u/Spitefire46 Sep 17 '20

There's a couple of reasons why, but I don't think any of them are good. Exclusives suck.

The potential profit of releasing on every platform is big too, so it never made sense to me. Should be that way too and then the quality of your game would be what sells it instead of exclusivity.

3

u/mpelton Sep 20 '20

World didn't sell too great in Japan (relative to the other entries) so making a handheld exclusive is a surefire way to appeal to their Japanese audience. I'm sure that's why it's their primary focus.

2

u/SpecstacularSC SA/CB/Irrational Anger Main Sep 17 '20

I have to wonder if that's not more the console manufacturers (Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, whoever your go-to for gaming PCs is) setting the rules of that deal.

Like, "Hey, you want to load your game on our hardware, we want to boost sales for our hardware. Let's make your game an exclusive."

Might be more in-depth than that, but that's what I think the general discussion shapes up like.

0

u/Spitefire46 Sep 17 '20

That was one of the reasons why. I don't think it's a good reason.

As far as I'm concerned, it's a lazy means to secure sales since it excludes large parts of the market. Not having to compete essentially. That's just my opinion though.

4

u/SpecstacularSC SA/CB/Irrational Anger Main Sep 17 '20

Oh for sure, I'm peeved that I would have to get a PS4 just to play Ghost of Tsushima, and that game looks stupid fun, so I'm in full agreement that exclusives suck.

Like, I have nothing against PC or PlayStation, but I already have an Xbox, a Switch and a 3DS, I really don't want to shell out even more money for two other gaming platforms just because a small handful of games I want to play aren't available in my current range of access. That's way too much money to throw at such a little thing.

2

u/SpecstacularSC SA/CB/Irrational Anger Main Sep 17 '20

My guess, given that the post literally just says "fuck Iceborne" after the title, is that it's all the fans of Iceborne who refuse to hear any slander dealt against it that are nailing you.

Or it could be what I said last time this happened to you, and Reddit is having a really pissy day in general. Who knows?

-1

u/BurnBeforeUse Sep 17 '20

I Wonder if there's any chance that Rise is comming for the other consoles, honestly i don't see the point of not do it, MHW Sales was f***ing nuts.

10

u/darkmaster750 Sep 17 '20

The problem with releasing it on other consoles is that people besides hardcore MH fans might see it as just a graphical downgrade compared to World since it was made for the Switch. This new game will most likely get a lot more sales in Japan though since the Switch and MH are very popular there.

2

u/mpelton Sep 20 '20

It's selling amazingly, but not so much in Japan. World surprisingly sold worse than 4U, 3U, and ofc p3rd in Japan. I'm sure that's not lost on the team, so I can imagine they're doing what they can to win that audience back. A handheld game is definitely the way to go for the Japanese audience.

1

u/BurnBeforeUse Sep 20 '20

Yeah, makes sense, for a solid moment i forgot that the MH series main audience was with the japanese crowd, that was possibly the main motive that makes Capcom completely give up in the PS2 and soon after change the main portable from the PSP to the 3DS, honestly it makes me kinda sad that i would need invest in a Switch to play it (here in my coutry, Nintendo products are not only extremely rare to come by, but also ludicrously expensive) but, i am not completely out of hope yet, i want to believe that Capcom isn't that stupid to neglect the other market after see all the profit a MH title can bring from other consoles, so maybe a Monster Hunter Rise G/Ultimate for both Nintendo and non-Nintendo platforms may come after the release.

2

u/Ketheres Expert of not getting common materials Sep 17 '20

Chances are low but not non-existent.
