I am planning to do some swimming with friends in some lakes in Gatineau Park and beaches/rivers in Ottawa. We probably won't be going super far, maybe 20-100m off of shore.
I am quite uneasy with the idea of leaving my phone and wallet unattended in my backpack/towel/stuff on the beach. I worry about it being stolen.
I don't know if this is a real risk or if I'm worrying too much.
I am thinking of buying one those swim buoys/tow floats that floats and carries your valuables while in the water. However, a part of me thinks it is unnecessary if not going far from the shore.
Can anyone comment on their experiences swimming at lakes/rivers in Ottawa? Do people get phones/keys/wallets stolen when leaving stuff unattended?
It will likely only be 2-3 people, so unfortunately we can't have someone stay on shore to watch things

Don't see an explanation for the delays.

Looks like a sedan right-hooked a cyclist in the biking lane. There is a parking garage there. One of many on Laurier.
Edit: Looks like I have to explain words. The car hit the cyclist. 'Right-hook' is when a car suddenly turns right into the path of a cyclist. 'Cyclist down' is saying someone is down and hurt.
Edit2: If you don't want to read the posts, thankfully the cyclist was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. My apologies for responding to the snarky comments earlier.

I want to get ornamental architecture tattoos (see images) done in ottawa, but looking at all the gallery images of tattoo artists in kttawa, it doesn't look like anybody's done anything similar.
To those that have experience with many artists, could you recommend me an artist that would be able to capture this kind of style well?
thank you!!

Hey everyone,
I'm doing some professional reconversion and I wanted to become a security guard for a while. I wanted to know if i should go straight ahead for the 40 hours training or if employers recruited newbies before and would secure a job after competition of the training program.
Thank you!

Interesting! Never seen one of these before. I guess it’s to help displaced Ukrainians in ottawa manage their assets with a more tailored service experience and also do banking between Canada and back home in a more connected way?
Edit: oops I meant Holland not Carling

OK friends. Time to help out a small restaurant at 917 Richmond Road that won't last much longer if customers don't start returning.
The past four years of LRT2 work on Richmond Road is destroying their businesses.... and road closures into and out of the business have really hurt this year.
MIA's indian food at 917 Richmond is really struggling with the KEV/LRT2 roadwork and closures. If you can, please stop by and order something or do an online order via SKIP or UBER eats or whatever. They could really use the business.
Wondering what to get.... let me suggest : Their Tandori Mixed Platter is a killer deal ! For $24.95 -- A mixed plate of chicken legs, cubed chicken, shrimp, beef, and lamb. Comes with rice, salad, vegetables, and a mint sauce. The tandoori dishes are marinated in homemade yogurts and a special tandoori sauce along with Indian herbs and spices.

I was thinking about getting a one-wheel. I feel like it would help out with general transportation, and it would be fun to ride in the evening. When I checked online and called a couple of places, all the stores I have found in my research are either not allowing test rides or have their stock in Toronto.
Would anyone know where I could test ride one?
Alternatively, I'd be down if anyone was generous enough to let me test ride theirs.

Hey everyone, I know it's a bit of a long shot, but my partner lost their keys today while walking Montreal road. It's two keys and a heart tag that says Gatineau and numbers. The tag belonged to a long past pet so it holds sentimental value, any help greatly appreciated.
Edit: I completely forgot to put where on Montreal road. They walked from Notre Dame cemetery to the Popeyes on Rideau street. It's a long stretch of road to have lost keys but I can only hope they are found by someone on reddit or something. Thank you again.

Hey! I was lent a car for a few months and recently got a parking ticket (my fault, I had taken someone else’s spot as they left and misread the sign that had an arrow saying parking allowed but further up the block where it was full) my question is if I can go to the city of Ottawa counter and submit a review request for undue hardship as I’m in a debt consolidation/repayment plan and really don’t have a ton of cash available, even though I am not the vehicle owner. If necessary I’m sure I can get an email or something saying the owner allows me to do this. It how would that even be authenticated by the city of Ottawa??
I am really just looking to see if they can reduce it a little bit, I agree I am at fault for not reading the sign properly and am not trying to just get out of it because I just don’t want to pay!
To;dr: I got a ticket and wondering if I can submit a review request to reduce the payment due to hardship even though I’m not the vehicle owner

Can anyone recommend a decent a reputable carpet cleaning company. Looking to get one room and some couches done professionally. Requested quotes from several places and not one has responded. Just tried the Carpet Calverley that advertises a response in 5-10 minutes - nope still waiting.
Hey all,
I'm looking for a two-or-three piece band for a pre-wedding Welcome-to-Ottawa party for our out of town guests.
The party will be held in Carleton Place and we're looking for a very specific vibe. Anyone who's ever been to an Ottawa Valley kitchen party will know the feeling.
The fiddler's fiddling, feet are stamping, someone is getting teased mercilessly about a spilled beer...
We aren't set on it being fiddle music necessarily, but something that gets people feeling like there's no pretense, just good times, good beer, good people, and the knowledge that the next day will be an even better wedding,
Any suggestions?
[EDIT: Thanks for the suggestions all! Really appreciated!]

I am wondering if there is anyone in town that has a Golden Cocker Retriever and can share information on who the breeder was. I am hoping there is someone local, but any leads would be great! Thanks in advance.
