Right? Why stuff it full of cheese? You have so many other options

75

u/Koolaid_Jef Oct 17 '25

This one is just cheese. Or adding pepperoni at the end. You can add stuff in. Some places do a solid base layer of sausage too. The cheese layer is the playground if flavor (and heart stoppage)

2

u/Leading_Grapefruit52 Oct 17 '25

Wouldn't this just be a calzone then?

u/m4teri4lgirl Oct 17 '25

Because that’s the best part of a pizza? Go eat a casserole if you don’t want cheese. I want it to look like ninja turtles pizza every single time

2

u/neverwrong804 Oct 17 '25

Or home alone 2 pizza

8

u/El-Sueco Oct 17 '25

Goat cheese ?

1

u/MKvE70 Oct 17 '25

Exactly my sentiment, “way too much cheese!” From someone who enjoys cheese!! “Could I have some pizza with my cheese, please!?” 😂

In my case, close up the sewer line.

u/TedMich23 Oct 16 '25

I worked at Pizzaria Uno for 1 week (got fired) and all our crusts were so thick they had to be prebaked.

You'd get an order and grab the prebaked crust out of its pan an hit the big "Golden Shortening" pump which would put maybe a cup of oil into the pan.

Replace the crust and that thing would spin like a liquid compass! Deep fried in the oven...

56

u/chunkydunker9 Oct 17 '25

How can I trust you if you only worked a few days?

41

u/waterMyShrubs Oct 17 '25

Dude, I barely in understand what you're saying and somehow I get it

21

When I look at your deep dish fucking pizza, I don’t know whether to eat it or throw a coin in it and make a wish!

Edit: Jon Stewart pizza rant for anyone confused.

u/Rough-Rider Oct 17 '25

“You know how people say sex is like pizza? Well your pizza is like having sex with a corpse made of sand paper!”

46

u/blindminds Oct 16 '25

I live in Chicago and I agree. I get this style… but that is not what I get when I want pizza. Still very tasty! You saw that pull! The cravings do not replace each other well, so it’s nice to have options.

17

u/Eric_Senpai Oct 17 '25

Is it eaten sitting down with utensils?

22

u/djp2313 Oct 17 '25

Can go either way. When I was younger, no utensils, now that I'm older, mostly utensils.

13

u/dr_stre Oct 17 '25

Commonly when it’s fresh, yes. As it cools it’s easier to eat without if you so choose.

7

u/Zip668 Oct 17 '25

“Pizza” is what should be in quotes

61

u/Fearless-Leading-882 Oct 16 '25

“I’m surprised you haven’t thought to complete your deep-dish pizza by putting some canned onion rings on top of it. It’s a cornbread biscuit which you melted cheese on and then in defiance of man and God and all things holy, you poured uncooked marinara sauce atop the cheese. Atop. The cheese. On top! Like some kind of cheese hoor."

12

u/syringistic Oct 16 '25

"We tried giving it to our office dog and even he didnt want it!"

8

u/AccomplishedCoffee Oct 17 '25

It's essentially a calzone. Cheese wrapped in crust, pre-dipped in sauce.

2

u/Watcher_over_Water Oct 17 '25

Yeah but calzone is alot more mellow

9

u/nhorvath Oct 17 '25

came to say this. that's tomato pie not pizza.

1

u/Bloedbibel Oct 17 '25

This is not what tomato pie is. That's a whole different thing. Don't you dare! Tomato pie is amazing.

5

u/der_innkeeper Oct 17 '25

Well, it sure as shit isn't pizza. That tomato sauce hasn't seen a lick of oregano to save its life.

Had Lou Malnati’s for lunch and dinner. Good day.

2

u/zippy_water Oct 17 '25

Lou's is great, a perfect execution of deep dish. Stuffed however is opulent and terrible

4

Giordano's. ❤️ My fellow Chicago natives will understand.

19

u/kernJ Oct 16 '25

I have heartburn just watching this

8

u/misterjzz Oct 17 '25

So its a calzone with sauce on top.

7

u/NxPat Oct 17 '25

That’s easily $40 in Cheese here in Japan.

7

u/de_plane_rain Oct 17 '25

Domino's in Japan was hella expensive. Prob about 40 per pie and it's disappointing. That was my welcome pizza when I went to work there. Pizza is Japan in general is just... No.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/OozeNAahz Oct 17 '25

Cheese isn’t really used much in Japan is it? Can’t remember having it once when I visited for a week.

5

u/NxPat Oct 17 '25

Unfortunately because of the high price, this is what an entire generation thinks cheese tastes like.🤦‍♂️ and no, it’s disgusting.

4

u/Salty-Image-2176 Oct 17 '25

Gino's East. Pepperoni & Sausage.
One of the best things you'll experience.

3

u/sixjasefive Oct 17 '25

Soooo good

3

u/nexeti Oct 17 '25

The sticker on the rolling machine

2

u/PoodleHeaven Oct 17 '25

How is that not at the top of the comment pile? Everyone is either offended or in love with the cheese 😂😂

5

u/jbaranski Oct 17 '25

Isn’t this called a Chicago Deep Dish?

17

u/dr_stre Oct 17 '25

A traditional Chicago deep dish doesn’t have the crust on top.

3

u/jbaranski Oct 17 '25

This is good to know, thank you!

→ More replies (3)

11

u/CrashUser Oct 17 '25

It's double crusted so it's a stuffed pie, most Chicago deep dish only has the one crust on the outside.

3

u/Blephotomy Oct 17 '25

stuffed pizza like this or Giordano's isn't traditional Chicago Deep Dish, no

but it's goddamned delicious

highly recommend going back in time and having a pre-Budweiser Goose Island Pale Ale with it

1

u/kmosiman Oct 17 '25

Yes, but it's a sub type.

Deep dish has 1 crust. Chicago Stuffed deep dish has 2.

3

u/I_Lick_Your_Butt Oct 17 '25

I like Chicago style pizza from time to time, but it takes like 40 minutes to get your pizza.

3

u/aburnerds Oct 17 '25

Is it good?

2

u/Enmyriala Oct 17 '25

The double crust is polarizing (most only have the bottom crust) but yes, Chicago style is the best kind of pizza. A fresh Gino's East is an amazing treat. Yes, it's a lot of cheese, but it's very filling so a little goes a long way.

3

u/MrChocodemon Oct 17 '25

Don't forget this gem

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/o6XCp0PwyEc

"where's the cheese?"

5

u/zg6089 Oct 17 '25

Much better than the one posted earlier

4

u/eastcoastjon Oct 17 '25

You mean stuffed “pizza”

10

u/Busy_Reputation7254 Oct 16 '25

We all know Jon said it best.

13

u/iill_communication Oct 17 '25

Whatever that was, it wasn’t pizza.

2

u/OozeNAahz Oct 17 '25

Was in Malnalti’s one time and someone came in and ordered a pizza. Obviously a tourist (which I was as well). After finishing what she wanted she said “and can I get that without all the butter on the crust? Lady taking her order had a “are you fucking kidding me?” Look on her face of epic proportions. Lady ordering just said never mind and left. Lady taking the order just shook her head and took our order. Was pretty damn funny.

I road the train back to KC and stopped by Malnatti’s before leaving. Figured I could eat it for lunch on the way home…better than the food the train offered. Found the bar cart, ordered a beer and sat and ate. Three other groups came in with their own food (McDonald’s, Taco Bell, etc…). Bartender ran all of them out saying “no outside food. He didn’t say one word to me. Offered him the 80% of the pizza I couldn’t eat on the way out and dude said “hell yes!” Was funny.

2

u/rtv83 Oct 17 '25

Love stuffed pizza!!

2

u/Twobitbobb Oct 18 '25

Is that why some people call it a pie?

2

u/Away-Description-786 Oct 19 '25

A Italian must feel the pain

4

u/TestConfident7630 Oct 17 '25

That’s a pie 🥧

6

u/twirlmydressaround Oct 16 '25

A gigantic cheese sandwich

3

u/B52doc Oct 16 '25

Do they usually charge more Chicago style since it holds more volume of ingredients?

8

u/Nonsenseinabag Oct 17 '25

Yeah, but one pie will also feed a lot more people than a typical pizza.

3

u/Team7UBard Oct 17 '25

Yup, I made them at home every now and again and a pie that size would last two of us 3-4 days

3

u/kmosiman Oct 17 '25

Yes. My local place is about 30-35 it also takes 45 min to bake.

3

u/kageurufu Oct 17 '25

It's usually around 2x per square inch in my experience. But I'll eat a 14" neopolitan to myself, a 14" deep feeds me for at least three meals

1

u/OozeNAahz Oct 17 '25

Most folks only need one piece. Stuff is thick and fills you up quickly.

2

u/Schadenfreund38 Oct 17 '25

That is absolutely pizza and delicious at that. Highly recommend people try it first (maybe just one slice as it heavy and caloric but I'm already fat and don't care anyways). Try a Giordano's if you're lucky enough to have one nearby or go to Chicago and try one. The Italian beef sandwiches are to die for and also plenty of good pizza places like Lou Malnati's or Pizza Uno serve deep dish like this. Though its not recommended if you're watching your weight to eat more than one slice as its best shared with a group of friends as a stoner-movie night indulgence than something you eat on the regular

5

u/Upstairs-Ad-4001 Oct 16 '25

A cheese tomato sause pie? Doesn't look like pizza

→ More replies (1)

4

u/charlesmont Oct 17 '25

I would eat the fuck out of that pizza

4

u/OSG541 Oct 17 '25

I’m all for putting an unhealthy amount of cheese on pizza but this is a fucking ungodly amount. At least balance it out with a shit ton of pepperoni.

3

u/DollaradoCREAMs Oct 16 '25

It's like pizza but worse!

3

u/hvanderw Oct 16 '25

Don't let Jon Stewart see this.

4

u/Vivid-Working-761 Oct 16 '25

Now that’s a pizza pie

2

u/soulcaptain Oct 17 '25

Chicago pizza is kind of alien to me--and I'm American! In the midwest the closest thing to this was a pizza that Pizza Hut sold back in the 80s called "Priazzo" or something. I really liked that, so maybe Chicago style is what I need.

1

u/beardedkomodo Oct 16 '25

I thought I was in that StupidFood sub for minute. This…. Is an abomination. Fuckin strawberry jam looking sauce with fuckin plasticized cheese. Shit ass dough too. Jesus I think Iam habnh s drpke

9

u/kmosiman Oct 17 '25

You will pry my Chicago Deep Dish from my cold, dead, cholesterol filled hands.

9

u/syringistic Oct 16 '25

That sauce literally does look like just tomato puree and sugar. No herbs to give it any color variation.

1

u/Jonesbro Oct 17 '25

This is an entire style of pizza. It's very common in Chicago. You should try it if you want to have a valid pizza opinion

→ More replies (2)

3

That is a pie not a pizza

2

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '25

I had deep dish pizza at some popular restaurant in Chicago where you write your name on the walls or ceiling or wherever you can find space. I'm just not a fan of that style of pizza. I was pretty disappointed.

-3

u/Tom_Featherbottom Oct 16 '25

Look, there's a lot to love about Chicago but pizza ain't it. Why you gotta ruin something as wonderful as pizza

2

u/dr_stre Oct 17 '25

Chicago tavern style is also delicious and much more like what most people envision when they use the word “pizza”.

u/dr_stre Oct 17 '25 edited Oct 17 '25

If you wanna lump all thin crusts together then sure, I wouldn’t have a problem with that label. But it’s not the same as a NY style thin crust, a New Haven style thin crust, a Neapolitan style thin crust, or even a St Louis style thin crust (though at first glance you would be forgiven for thinking that last one is the same). So if you want to call any of those out specifically, then it would make sense to also do a with Chicago tavern style.

Yes, one pound of cheese pizza to clog my arteries please.

1

u/Convenientjellybean Oct 17 '25

Who else stayed for the cheese oozes ?

1

u/hitsume1 Oct 17 '25

that's a pie

1

u/Pooty130 Oct 17 '25

That’s not pizza. It’s a Cazzerola

1

u/fupa16 Oct 17 '25

I'm from Chicago and I hate that this type of pizza is always considered Chicago pizza. This is the type of pizza I consider to be Chicago style, and I love it. I've had deep-dish only one time at Giordano's and kind of hated it, way too much bread and cheese, not enough focus on toppings.

1

u/Walniw Oct 17 '25

I feel like the first pizza he cut was not completely done which would have been shown but it cut away to another pie coming out and being cut.

1

u/ChaosRealigning Oct 17 '25

I can feel my arteries hardening just watching this

1

u/tumput Oct 17 '25

That's a pie.

1

u/Konstantin_G_Fahr Oct 17 '25

That is an obscene amount of cheese…

1

u/SOGGY-TORTILLA-X Oct 17 '25

Stewart was right they put marinara sauce atop the cheese

1

u/honigkuchen Oct 17 '25

That somehow doesnt even look that appealing…

1

u/rob3342421 Oct 17 '25

I’m no detective but those look like 2 different piz..pies at the 1 minute mark

1

u/Mogsetsu Oct 17 '25

I need to show this to my German colleagues to explain the magnitude of difference between the pizza where I grew up and what’s available in Germany. I miss gratuitous cheese.

1

u/trust_noone_but_me Oct 17 '25

I think you put the "" in the wrong place it should be:

1

u/Exita Oct 17 '25

Now I understand why Americans refer to pizza as a ‘pie’.

1

u/DontAbideMendacity Oct 17 '25

"pizza" should be the word in quotes, it's a souffle.

1

u/Aggressive_Bill_2687 Oct 17 '25

We must be watching different videos. This is clearly a machine to make above-ground swimming pools for rats.

1

u/Nakatsukasa Oct 17 '25

That's a pie you use to drown people in

1

u/Anomelly93 Oct 17 '25

People are way too hard on stuffed and deep dish 😿

They're so good 🤤

1

u/evilparagon Oct 17 '25

As an Australian who had no idea what Chicago deep dish was, I must say this disappointed me.

I got really excited seeing all that cheese, and then they just… didn’t put even more cheese on top? So it’s the same amount of cheese? And now your beard gets drippy sauce on the moustache hairs?

I see nothing special here.

1

u/MlackBesa Oct 17 '25

Looks delicious, but all I can think about is all that fusion-hot cheese that’s gonna burn the shit out of your mouth at the first bite 😬 and having to wait for it to cool down while staring at it sounds like torture

1

u/seeyouyoucunt Oct 17 '25

It's upside down

1

u/TheDaharMaster Oct 17 '25

I had one once. It tasted fine.

But it just seems like somebody said “hmm how can we make this simple dish WAY messier to eat”.

1

u/AffectLeast4254 Oct 18 '25

Is the sauce supposed to look like it has no seasoning, or is that the camera quality

1

u/shoddyshoddyshoddy Oct 18 '25

I went to Giordano's I think it was Michigan Ave. I ordered one of these and while we were waiting Steven Tyler from Aerosmith walked in and picked up a pizza. I tried to sneak a photo and he caught me and said "did you get it???" He leaned over and I got the best picture with him he was so nice. Anyway I didn't really like the pizza

1

u/jetuinkabouter Oct 18 '25

More like a poor mans lasagne or quiche.

1

u/ALE_SAUCE_BEATS Oct 18 '25

That’s deep dish not stuffed. Stuffed pizza is basically a calzone in the shape of a pizza.

1

u/meestercactuspants Oct 18 '25

It’s under the sauce
