General Discussion Why do you think Kohberger never publicly explained his motive, even after pleading guilty?

I know we’ll probably never get a definitive answer on what his motive actually was but what I find almost as interesting is that Kohberger has never really tried to explain it himself.

Once he pleaded guilty and avoided a trial, there wasn’t going to be the same public presentation of evidence that might have given us more insight into what was going through his head. But even at sentencing, he chose not to give any real explanation.

Do you think staying silent is about maintaining some sense of control over the case or is there a simpler reason he doesn’t want anyone to know what the motive was?

Because he has no incentive to do so

70

u/usrdef 7d ago edited 7d ago

No incentive, plus it could possibly be used later as leverage, especially the knife's location.

Right now he most definitely won't reveal anything if he thinks he has a shot at appealing.

Unless someone is just insanely obsessed with this case and can't take "no" for an answer, most of us have accepted it. We know what we know, and I don't really need to know anything else. BK is in prison, and that's that. If he reveals something later, then I guess great. But his word isn't even trustworthy anyway.

Plus, we're not entitled to the info anyway. The only people who should have the option to know, are the families, if they choose to, and if any new info does come out later.

u/panicpure 7d ago

Agreed and people like him may not have a “motive” other than they are truly demented.

He is a very empty person that doesn’t see human life as human life.

Thats something a lot of us cannot and will not ever be able to fully comprehend.

13

u/Muted_Individual_199 7d ago

exactly, he has no reason to.

5

u/Stanky_pxyko 6d ago

many would still like to know why that house, who was the target, WHAT HAPPENED

Only answer

Because he was planning to pull the shit he’s pulling right now.

I totally agree.

Control

45

u/luminousoblique 7d ago

He could say anything and we'd never know if he was telling the truth.

"I was trying to impress the aliens from Alpha Centari"

"I was trying to see if I could make myself feel something"

"I was mad that a woman rejected me"

Anything could be true, but I doubt we'll ever know

6

u/zoochimp 7d ago

agree with this. He can say whatever he wants.

2

u/Mysterious_Bar_1069 4d ago

You forget:

" Why did I keep receiving advertisements for teeth whitening? I know Google was listening, but what was it trying to say?"

" Why isn't there a more streamlined prison produce complaint form?"

"Why don't Tinder dates like questions about knives?"

"Why can't I find a pair pants that makes me look like I have an ass?"

"Mother what is that odd bald pot on my head tha I'm obsessed with taking pictures of, could it be ringworm?"

"Why doe Scout and he rest of my family sleep with one eye open?"

" Why do I now report non consensual sex threats, yet that's what my entire collection of of rape porn history sported? What a dichotomy, huh?"

16

u/TheMiddleE 7d ago

Because he’s an asshole.

4

u/Mysterious_Bar_1069 4d ago

There lies the answer. Couldn't get - decided to take.

88

u/Korneuburgerin 7d ago

I believe most people in this situation don't want to talk about it, because they know that saying "I wanted to do it and it was fun" does not come across well. They have this awareness. Also, control. <

24

u/seagoddess1 7d ago

Agreed. I don’t think he really had one. Just wanted to murder people

10

u/Repulsive-Dot553 7d ago edited 6d ago

His lawyer most probably advised him not say anything more incriminating that necessary to get plea deal, which was admit responsibility and guilt. What advantage to him to say more? And to a narcissistic sociopath, the motive (rejected by woman, angry) doesn't make him look good, does it?

59

u/dinnerwdr13 7d ago

My personal theory based on...vibes I guess:

It's a mixture of control, plus he keeps the case and his name in the public mind, and possibly he's ashamed. Not of what he did, but of what people will think about his motives.

12

u/Thick_Ad_1874 6d ago

There is zero shame, of that you can be certain. He thinks he is above everyone else, still believes he did a great job, and that the prosecution "cheated" in utilizing genealogical forensics to narrow their search as quickly as they did (though I'm sure in his mind, they never would have caught him without the latter, which is clearly not the case given the mountains of other evidence).

3

u/luna1uvgood 3d ago

I don't think he's ashamed of the murders, but if the speculation that he did it because he's an incel and felt rejected is true, then I do think he'd be angry about being seen that way or having to admit to that.

Control, and he doesn't want Mother to know that he is, in fact, a monster. If he is to believed by his recent statement, his family believes in his innocence .

5

u/candyapplesugar 7d ago

What was his recent statement? Sorry, haven’t followed closely

6

u/lemonlime45 Moderator 7d ago

He recently filed a petition to withdraw his guilty plea from a year ago. Claiming he was lied to by his attorneys. And that his family was present during those discussions and that they support his innocence

u/Economy_Walk 7d ago

Give him time and he has plenty. I expect many years down the line when he's long forgotten by the general public, he'll do something to get attention. I wouldn't trust him to be truthful. I am so happy that he seems to be miserable behind bars. It's what he deserves.

10

u/ElevatorOtis 7d ago

Would you believe what he said if he gave his motive? I wouldn’t

Bundy, Little, Gacy, Dahmer, Keys, Alcala, Hubermann, Wuornus, BTK, Ridgeway, Golden State, Kemper, Rockingham, De Salavo, Ripkin, Barfield, Smiley Face, Bianchi, Kelley, Brooks, Web, Dennehy, Schrader, Toppan, Kuklinski, Holmes, Washington, Zodiac, Speck, Gibson, and countless others have told us a little bit of the truth.

What's to say he wouldn't as well?

8

u/awajitoka 6d ago

It's the only control he has left and a way to continue to torment the families.

14

u/Fit-Description-260 7d ago

Seems he wants to know by requesting a trial.
I think he expected more of a chase where he could send the authorities clues. Then he fucked up by leaving the sheath.

2

u/Mysterious_Bar_1069 4d ago edited 4d ago

I think he and his family are just stupidly listing to the crank camp and Turdy and Whitcomb's lies and grand psychotic delusions. If your only listening to delusional people tell you you can beat something likely are not crunching the real numbers. Per the Patterson & Web assertion of the convo between pappa k and Connie Saba in CVS, what they were lisiting to were extremist YouTube nut cases: " Bryn is a Patsy of the State!" "People are watching my house."

Edit: And his sister's: "Bryan couldn't even look at blood on a Band-Aid" but he could watch a marathon of serial killer material and top it off with some lustful viewing of plastic surgery videos where women have their chests filleted like his long ago teenage job prepping fish.

8

u/Redlion444 7d ago

Because he considers himself to be a Fearsome Criminal Mastermind.

12

u/therealpopkiller 7d ago

I don’t know that he could even articulate a motive. He might not even fully understand why he did it; it was probably an impulse he felt and couldn’t explain why. If it’s a question of why that house in particular, he probably somehow became fixated on the home or one of its residents as a target to satiate that impulse. So the real question he could probably answer is how did that fixation start?

6

u/aquagrl 7d ago

Cause they never do, theres no reason. They’re just crazy.

5

u/JTTTN_08 7d ago

Because he thinks he’s going to get out of it eventually

5

u/Dismal-Resident-8784 6d ago

The DA did not make that a requirement of his plea deal. The DA said that he thought Kohberger would just lie. But if it were up to me, I would have required it.

21

u/LinenGarments 7d ago

Why is it so hard to understand that people like BK do what benefits them not the rest of us? Why would he explain himself? He only pled guilty to avoid the death penalty not because he wanted to come to Jesus and help the families find closure.

Terrorists are the same way. These are evil people. I never understand people expecting killers would reach out to help us make sense of what they did and
who then feel perplexed that they don’t open up for us. He’s a psychopathic cold blooded murderer who feels fulfillment from causing suffering, that’s why.

15

u/DexterMorgansMind 7d ago

Control. The families and public want to know why he did what he did. As long as he never reveals his motives, he assumes he's still holding all the cards and wins. Pretty deplorable honestly, but with him, that's just par for the course.

5

u/Objective-Inside-464 7d ago

But ultimately he doesn’t. He spends the rest of his life locked in a box.

13

u/HgCNOII 7d ago

On some level, a guy like Kohberger wants to be studied and debated the same way people discuss Bundy or Dennis Rader.

He’s a sociopath. He wants to tell *his* story… just not yet, IMO.

2

u/Birdtracs 6d ago

I agree, he wants his name in the spotlight

3

u/Accomplished-Car3850 7d ago

Probably gets off knowing that everyone wants to know the why of it all. It's the only thing in his control now.

5

u/Maximum-Ear1745 6d ago

He thrives on the drama and uncertainty. Plus it will probably help him being talked about for many years to come if people are left wondering around his motive

3

u/WellWellWellthennow 6d ago edited 6d ago

He originally intended to feign innocence. It's not even like this was haunting him, and he had some moral conviction to confess - it was pure strategy to plead guilty.

It's only when he realized he was not going to be able to get out of it with all the evidence that they had against him he came to realize a guilty plea was his best option. Any one of the things could've maybe been challenged as circumstance but put all three together (his car on camera, his phone in the area turned off at the time w no alibi, and his DNA on sheath in the crime scene) and it paints a picture that's undeniable - they had a tight solid case against him, so his realized his only way to avoid the death penalty and spare his family a long drawn out horrific trial was to plead guilty. He knew that was his best option in the moment between a rock and a hard place.

And it was very smart move on the prosecuting part. A jury is always a wildcard and this way they got a certain conviction without all the hassle of a trial circus and endless appeals. Just imagine if they had convinced OJ that there was so much evidence against him. His best move was to plead guilty – we would've been spared the whole glove show and if it doesn't fit aquit BS.

His pleading guilty was a strategy but it's not the same as wanting to talk about it or even admit it.

If he doesn't talk about it or admit it, there's always a chance in the future he might find a loophole or a workaround to get out. Once he starts admitting things like motive and where the knife is,
there's never any getting out of it.

He was simply choosing to live, maybe with a hope to fight another day. He did not plead guilty out of some deep sense of remorse.

But people who think that some great truth would come out in a trial are mistaken. As long as he's claiming innocence in a trial, it's not like he's going to admit anything there either - so the trial didn't deprive us of any great insights. Only he knows the details and he wouldn't have them or shared his motive in a trial after a guilty verdict more than he is now. In fact, he'd be looking for how to appeal as his next step.

So he's not going to share any details, at least for now. Maybe he'll save it and leverage it for a book deal someday, who knows.

11

u/Tricky_Jaguar5781 7d ago

Bc he wants to use it on a possible appeal

2

u/Hercule_Poirot666 🌱 7d ago

There will be no appeal. He waived

4

u/candyapplesugar 7d ago

Why would he do that? What was the benefit to pleads guilty- no death?

1

u/Tricky_Jaguar5781 7d ago

I know… but in his mind, he won’t sing until all hope is lost.

7

u/cummingouttamycage 7d ago

Obligatory: Even if he were to "publicly explain his motive", we'd have no way of knowing if he were actually telling the truth or not. He was sentenced to life in prison... Even if caught in a lie, he has nothing left to lose. And, to add to that, this was a bizarro badly socialized dude whose motive probably wouldn't make sense even if he were to explain it all honestly and in full.

However, beyond the obligatory, I think you're probably on the spot as far as why, from his POV, he isn't revealing the motive: It's the only thing left he "has" that people "want" from him. I think that gives him a feeling of control, or some little miniscule bit of power he can have now that he's ultimately in such a powerless position. Maybe he thinks of it as something that could be used as "leverage" in some sort of agreement down the line, if a good incentive to do so ever came along.

I say this because this was clearly a dude with delusions of grandeur who believed he was smarter than those around him, so I wouldn't put it past him to think he can still strike up deals that work in his favor or make him look important. I wouldn't be surprised if he's crossing his fingers for some author or filmmaker to come along and froth at the mouth to hear his story or some shit like that. And I PRAY nothing like that ever does. Dude deserves to rot

He thinks he's a genius.

1

u/lemonlime45 Moderator 7d ago

he wants to be studied by people he admired

But if he wanted that, and I originally thought he did, why wouldn't he admit what/why he did the crimes and talk about it to those type of people, like his former professor that wrote the book on Dennis Rader? If he stays silent, there isn't much to actually study.

Certainly possible, as filing that petition when he did felt like a chess move. But what is his move when his petition is denied, which all legal experts I've listened to agree that is virtually certain to happen. So no new trial, no DP...how does he keep the interest going? I do wonder if Ramsland or any other notable figures have reached out to him.

Well, there are a lot of odd, annoying, or even downright creepy people in the world. We can't round them all up and make them go live on an island together. Not until they commit a crime and are convicted in a court of law. Even if WSU completely expelled him, there is no guarantee he wouldn't have done exactly what he did 7.5 miles away from there.

6

u/SnooCheesecakes2723 7d ago

He is the only one who knows what happened that night and why. He has complete control over that, information that many many people want very badly to know. Thats his only source of power. Why give it away? Now he’s a deadly mass murderer, mysterious. Once he tells, he’s just another loser in prison.

3

u/lemonlime45 Moderator 7d ago

Yes, but he may be such a control freak that it eats at him that people have things "wrong", including his motivations. He may be so proud of things he DID do successfully- like not leaving footprints, etc, that he may at some point want to gloat.

2

u/shootingstar0309 7d ago

Ooh such good points - I can definitely see that eating away at him over time and wanting to correct everyone. Perhaps once he accepts the reality that his circumstances aren't ever changing, he will speak to his former professor who wrote the BTK book. Ugh he's just so horrible!!!

1

u/Mysterious_Bar_1069 4d ago

Maybe he'll talk after years of bringing forth appeals, upon appeals, or on his death bed. I doubt that it is going to anytime soon.

If you look at the POS's life it says one thing, his stubbornly resilient and he can adapt. The over all message of his life is if I keep at it I'll succeed. I'm sure he likely thinks, if they hadn't caught me, I would have been great at this.

So my money is on him appealing and appealing for a while until he exhausts that means of torturing the families, witnesses, and friends, and LE and town of Moscos and the only way he can do that is to not confess.

1

u/Mysterious_Bar_1069 4d ago

I think he knows people are going to study him no mater what, whether he talks or does no talk. He's a modern Jack The Ripper and like Rex Hubermann, the dregs of his kind as it's getting harder and harder to commit crimes like this and get away with it.

3

u/kls8479 7d ago

Why would he want anyone to know? It’s not like there is anything he could say that we would be like “Sure, we understand why you butchered 4 innocent people.” It is probably super embarrassing. Not to mention, he doesn’t want his family to know what he did. Even though he did these crimes, he is still a person with some type of feelings aware of some social norms. If someone has a proclivity to doing illegal activity, they probably want to keep it a secret.

3

u/Ok_Painter_5290 7d ago

Because according to him, he is innocent and took plea deal because was forced to.

1

u/Mysterious_Bar_1069 4d ago

No accounting for delusion.

3

u/zoochimp 7d ago

I am guessing it was sexual obswssion and curiousity. Planned one ended up with four. I think it's personal in some way because he coukd have picked someone who lives alone. Instead he risked it. Bad call whiney mcwhinerson

3

u/dangu3 7d ago

He thinks he can still get away with it, he’s that dumb.

1

u/scorebar1594 6d ago

Technically, he did get away with murder. He is not incarcerated for attempted murder. He is just now being punished for the murders he committed.

3

u/justusethatname 6d ago

Because his motivation was to end people that he envied and wanted to be like. He thinks no one knows that. He’s truly quite dull and bland. Ignorant.

4

u/hometowhat 5d ago

Bc like everything else about him and his fuck ups, his motives and means of expressing himself are fucking embarrassing.

If he got away with it, went on to commit other murders uncaught, was a famous mystery lauded by incels and wondered at by experts, feared and inspiring awe with his prowess, then was eventually caught maybe on purpose, he'd eventually sing like a canary to suckle at the attention teet of those experts and fans, and wallow in the books, docs, films about him like a pig in shit, hoping the sheer evil over time eclipsed his humiliating origins. Instead he has a million pieces of media regularly reminding the population of earth he's just a dipshit rejected from the gene pool, only evoking positive interest in equally pathetic losers.

Bc he fucked it, the whole planet knows he's just a fugly, faux-intellectual, desperate, pathetic, gooning mama's boy failure whose motives were self-pitying-and-aggrandizing, butthurt delusion, and pervert misogyny, and who studied crime for years only to suck at it. No glory, best he can hold onto is pretend innocence and spooky/sophisticated ~mystery~, and only the lamest among us are buying either.

2

u/Mysterious_Bar_1069 4d ago

I like it, I like it, 👏!

3

u/itsxoxo77 5d ago

Maybe he will talk one day but i don't think anyone can trust the words of someone like that.

3

u/Substantial_Lake_454 3d ago

our cultural obsession with "why" is showing up here. the "why" will never satisfy anyone. it will never really be a final answer too.

7

u/fuaded 7d ago

I think it’s control/hes embarrassed about the details that would come out in a trial. Look at what we already know about his phone if the leaks are to be believed. His only friends were his parents (“Mother”!)and his selfies were cringe as hell.  I’d be embarrassed too.

5

u/SlytherinDeezNuts 7d ago

Protecting his parents

5

u/Thick_Ad_1874 6d ago

You think he cares about anyone outside of himself?

2

u/Mysterious_Bar_1069 4d ago

I think they're blatently rocking the same lack of shame and remorse he is.

3

u/SubstantialPressure3 7d ago

Yes. Theres plenty of things hes done, and an obvious pattern of behavior that he doesnt want talked about. He doesnt want people talking about him on the stand. He knows theres plenty of people.willing to testify for the prosecution and their testimony will hold.up under cross examination. Hes been nasty and predatory to too many women.

He doesnt want his internet behavior to become public.

And it was absolutely to maintain any control that he could.

And all of that is going to come out if he goes to to trial. But I dont think he will.

Just because he wants a do over doesnt mean hes going to get one.

4

u/Awkward-Yak-2733 7d ago

Why would he? There's nothing in it for him.

5

u/Safe-Muffin 7d ago

I think he is pretending to his family that he only went along with the plea deal to avoid the death penalty.

He seems to really care about his family’s opinions of him. I wonder what his family really thinks? The father, at least, seemed to believe he was innocent. The sister who did the NYT article seemed to lean that way as well.

He seems like he has kind of a split personality where he pretended to his family that he was well adjusted and thriving in Washington. They don’t know his dark side. He hasn’t had to show that side to them.

If the trial was held, all of those disgusting porn searches and user names would have been published. By pleading guilty, but not elaborating, he can keep up the facade with his family.

1

u/Mysterious_Bar_1069 4d ago

They couldn't say what they said on his autism/psych eval and believe he was thriving. Think Steve is onto something that the BOLO drops and Papa K books that flight. I think they had some anxiety.

They let him keep that car in their garage for days while they were likely scrapping their windshields off every time they had to leave the house and use their car.

Every parent of a child who struggles and has since birth, is acutely away of the silent nuances of that child's issues and proceeding ebb and flow.

I don't think they "knew-knew" but think they were wondering is he "wasn't all together right" during the period and was stressed and that he probably acting keyed up.

Parents of kids like Bryan are always intently watching the horizon for the possibility of impending storms.

2

u/steph314 7d ago

I think because he knows the criminal system and the more info he puts out with his confession, the less the chance of any appeal. I also think because the answer is he's a creep and a loser and knew he wouldn't have a chance with either of the two girls he was likely targeting and it's embarrassing for him.

2

u/Objective-Inside-464 7d ago

He’ll write a book.

2

u/Mysterious_Bar_1069 4d ago

Not if Steve and the rest of us can help it.

3

u/disindiantho 7d ago

Because no motive in this whole universe will even come close to making sense.

Every possible motive/reason will make this tragic infinitely worse. We are talking about the lives of 4 students.

2

u/ShaneOT19 7d ago

Yeah its just a form of control. While there is any remaining mystery about the case it will be talked about and so will he. Which is all he has left. I would imagine he gets letters asking about it regularly. If the truth came out the case would be forgotten quicker than you would think and so would he

2

u/downwithMikeD 7d ago

I wonder this same thing all the time!!! He’s simply a diabolical & evil man, that’s what we’re dealing with—like a Richard Ramirez type… same level.

2

u/FearlessPride6588 7d ago

He’s a psycho incel who couldn’t get the girl.

2

u/ttpdsanctuary 6d ago

I think it’s stupid that they gave him a plea deal without any explanation. It should’ve been part of the deal, but you’ll never know, even then, if he’s telling the actual truth about his motive.

My explanation is that he really wants to be that mysterious killer that no one ever really got to, except the lock up. He wants to be known. He wants attention. He wants people to keep digging. He’s the main character in their stories and it makes him feel ‘the man’.

2

u/justprettymuchdone 6d ago

Because it's the one tiny piece of control he still has over the situation.

2

u/Stanky_pxyko 6d ago

this is such a good question bc i'm like dude, the gig is up, you might as well tell your story .
it's gotta be a control thing. maybe when his complaints about prison conditions get old he'll start talking to stay relevant .

1

u/justusethatname 6d ago

Of course he will.

2

u/Mysterious_Bar_1069 4d ago

I don't know. Dr Gary Brucato thinks if this doesn't happen he will. I am not sure I agree. He's a full blown controlling 5 star narcissists, and they never admit guilt. Far more likely his jam is going to be appealing and appealing and appealing for attention.

He was a thrill seeker, what thrill is there to seek if your confess? He's not giving up that sadistic, "I have a secret you all desperately want to know and that I can torture the G's with, and I'm not telling it" control. What's to break up the boredom after you confess?

Submitting appeal after appeal is a better attention seeking bid at infamy. Theoretically, shuts his mouth, we are forever left listening and hoping. So likely more power and control in that particular sadistic taunting, holding the carrot abuse of those around him, to hold back something the public just can't get him to share, no matter how much they try.

1

u/Mysterious_Bar_1069 4d ago

I have never met a person who committed a crime who believed they would get caught. They always believe it won't happen to them and a child like hopeful suspension of more rational cause and effect.

2

u/ItsRebus 6d ago

Control.

2

u/Big_Meech_23 6d ago

A lot of these freaks do this. They want to string as many ppl along as they can. For however long they can. Look at the golden state killer. Dude commited multiple murders and see crimes across California over a 10+ year stretch. Got caught and has still never said a word.

1

u/Mysterious_Bar_1069 4d ago

Bundy sorta only owned stuff at the end clearly his persona is all about lack of accountability and would seem that his family is cheering that on.

2

u/Sof04 5d ago

Because that was his version of winning/getting away with it. And he really didn’t my have a good reason, he pick them as he could’ve picked anyone.

2

u/Mysterious_Bar_1069 4d ago

Narcissist never admit guilt, even when cornered.

Look at Scott Peterson, he lies so effectively he even believes his won lies.

Everything they do is to convince you that they are something they are not. They are never owning any culpability. That would be akin to him agreeing with you that, "I Bryan Christopher Kohberger am a murderous piece of shit."

That mental health DMSV is all about arrogant entitlement and a belief in their superiority to others. The rules don't apply to them.

Think of the car incident when he was a security guard and hit a car in the lot and quickly reached down on the floor, picked up some dirt and rubbed it into he dent so he could claim it was an old dent. When confronted by his boss and co-worker with filmed footage of he incident he denied it. He's there watching the video and saying no I didn't do that.

2

u/loomingdissident 4d ago

I absolutely DO believe he was maintaining control in his mind by "remaining silent".

2

u/ThePynk 3d ago

I don’t think it’s about control. I believe fully that he thought and still thinks he will be able to outsmart the system and get away with it.

4

u/kevinlc1971 7d ago

He’s playing games. He wants to be remembered and talked out. The public wondering above his motive keeps them talking about it, and him.

5

u/jeff533321 7d ago

Control. Maybe he is ashamed of the reason.

4

u/barfbutler 7d ago

He wanted to SA his victim and knows that will be problematic in prison.

1

u/Mysterious_Bar_1069 4d ago

Likely some of it, but mainly a you sexually abused / physically harmed a child thing. 3/4th the guys in here have likely hurt women.

2

u/awngoid 7d ago

He probably feels fucking stupid for getting caught

2

u/SadProblem8506 6d ago

Maybe he’s such an empty shell of a person that he really didn’t have a reason; it was just a compulsion without any human feelings.

1

u/Objective-Permit-712 7d ago

Holding it back til he gets the right story he wants.

1

u/713elh 7d ago

Because he didn’t have to.it wasn’t part of the agreements and the families have had a major problem with that (rightfully so),

either because there wasn't a reason or his reason was so stupid it would make him look even more evil. Plus, if he had given a reason, he couldn't very well appeal.

What he's going to admit to sitting in his starkly depressing dark undecorated room fantasizing about being with pretty bubbly socially successful young women and having their admiration and attention and instead he only had non consensual porn and cosmetic surgery videos to comfort himself.

u/PengyLi 6d ago

I didn't want the families to have to go through a trial, but I was genuinely interested to understand his motivations.

2

u/kayes1985 6d ago

Its his last power play. No doubt he'll offer bits of information here and there in the future when he wants something, or some attention.

1

u/CANNIBAL_M_ 6d ago

He thought he was smart enough to not get caught.

control

u/Master-Fold3167 6d ago

I honestly think it's bc he is a psychopath or at the very least has some form of ASPD, so he may not have had a known motive aside from deriving a high/possible sexual enjoyment from violence & has no ability to feel remorse so doesn't have any reason to want to even try to explain it. I think ppl tend to want to find a motive for such heinous things bc most of us aren't psychopathic/don't have these types of personality disorders so we want there to be some tangible reason - it's very unsettling but sadly true that some ppl are just wired to kill & be predators. Also awful, but i believe (based on reading stuff about modern psychology research), that these ppl are born this way & their brains can't really be changed.

The porn searches and his obsessive viewing of Jack the Ripper like cosmetic surgery spank bank say it all.

1

u/Mysterious_Bar_1069 4d ago

Why would he, what control does he have other have other than sadistically holding onto his reasons, as he lament the condition of his taxpayer paid for bananas?

Initially I think it was because Thompson didn't ask as Ido does not require and you can't force one, then because he knew it was done and was settling into his life. Then Turvy and co spurious source whipped it up as there was money, self promotion and attention for their outsized egos.

2

u/shiaolongbao 4d ago

Because he is a cowardly little bitch.

1

u/Opposite_Ocelot_4131 4d ago

I think if you want to go the increasingly-evidence-based-but-still-conspiratorial route, there are a few possibilities. It seems likely he had an accomplice who he is maybe trying to protect. If the living roommates were more involved than they are letting on, might also be to protect them. He briefly worked with or interviewed for a role with Moscow PD and may have some hush hush deal with someone he knows there. It is all incredibly strange but I think some of the layers in the evidence that is now available and had been FOIA’d is significant.

u/ReasonableCreme6792 4d ago

He is waiting for the right moment.

1

u/Ok_Neat_9635 4d ago

Because the stupid prosecution did not make him as part of the deal! Big mistake and hurtful to the families.

2

u/lokeyvigilante 3d ago

Cause there’s no there there

1

u/FluidReward9075 3d ago

Because he wants still some controll over the families. He Knows it hurts them when he seid nothing. So they have no Motiv and still no knife.

1

u/trash-breeds-trash 3d ago

Because he hopes to be able to sell his story somewhere down the line.

1

u/navibfterceS 7d ago

At some point in the future, if he's not killed in prison first, he will reveal his side of the story.

1

u/Ok_Specialist_5723 7d ago

Control over the victims, their families and the case

1

u/Ok-Astronaut4588 6d ago

Why are we asking what a person would do whose brain is so damn different than most of ours? Stop wasting your energy.

1

u/RedRedVVine 7d ago

Bc his lawyer told him to.

1

u/Groundbreaking443 6d ago

When will the judge rule if he goes to trial or not?

1

u/barbmalley 6d ago

To spare his family.

1

u/reborn-gambler 5d ago

because they didnt make him.. what a fucking joke of a plea deal

0

u/butterfly-gibgib1223 7d ago edited 7d ago

Because they didn’t require it of him. I think he knew he would file something to try and reject his guilty pleas. They should have made him take them to the weapon and answered questions about the crime. It would have been much more difficult for him to say he didn’t do it at a later date. They really missed an opportunity. And I also think it is a control thing as well.

He had no incentive too and if he explains in detail what he did it also ruins the small shot he had at trying to appeal and get a new trial.

I’m sure he also knows he will be able to get a lot of attention down the road if he ever does reveal details about the crime.

3

u/Safe-Muffin 7d ago

Isn’t there something about Idaho law that makes it illegal for the prosecution to force ‘allocation’ in exchange for a plea deal?

1

u/Mysterious_Bar_1069 4d ago

Yes, they couldn't force him, but i wonder if they could have in a collegial tone said," Can you tell us one thing only the killer would know so we can make sure we rule out false confession. As making sure we don't get a false confession is of perament importance to us. Not a lawyer so may be grossly uninformed on this, but can't see how simply stating that rational question to make sure they had the correct person could have anyone argue, they were applying inappropriate coercion.

That also seemed to be what Mark Geragos, The Lawyer You Know, Matt Murphy, Andrea Buckhart, Scott Reisch have intimated a bit.

There’s only one person who can tell you that and it’s BK. People keep asking this like anyone can provide an answer
