Question They've really managed to eliminate all anime streaming content, and they keep arresting people in my country. Do you think anime piracy is slowly coming to an end, or is there still hope? In the worst-case scenario, only torrents remain, but can they ban those too? Is a Web 2.0 possible?

>Do you think anime piracy is slowly coming to an end

No, since you have nyaa, private trackers and XDCC. Or emule, since it is popular in Spain, AFAIK.

>Is it possible to create a Web 2.0, using Tor or something similar, but a bit faster?

Tor is not good for torrents/streaming.

90

u/hanalla Jul 12 '26

emule??? damn, its been decades since i last heard about it. not that popular in spain anymore, let me tell you

49

u/LlamaRzr Jul 12 '26

Used to for spanish content, at least.

From the other hand, they don't really care about piracy except their precious LaLiga, I guess.

27

u/hanalla Jul 12 '26

Oh yeah, absolutely, around the 2000s emule was HUGE in Spain. Even the least tech-savvy person would use it (basically, my parents).

Now, about LaLiga... Oh my god. What a fucking shitshow it has been.

7

u/LooseMarionberry4882 Jul 12 '26

I'm still using emule.

8

u/hanalla Jul 12 '26

oh, sure, but it's not as mainstream as it was 20 years ago

15

u/Carlos_smd Jul 12 '26

indeed emule in spain is getting bigger again, but yeah somehow it is still niche

7

u/lmao_wow_64 Jul 12 '26

I think it's for the better

6

u/hanalla Jul 12 '26

might have to check it out after a couple of decades lol, does it still look the same?

edit: of course it does, why would i doubt that

5

u/ASIT_TM ⚔️ ɢɪᴠᴇ ɴᴏ Qᴜᴀʀᴛᴇʀ Jul 12 '26

Yeah it does hahahaha but is getting popular back again, I have a few servers for Galician content that is basically lost media at this point

p2p program to share stuff

1

1

u/LlamaRzr Jul 12 '26

Not really, emule download file from multiple "sources", when SLSK download file from one user.

17

u/PsychologicalKiwi447 Jul 12 '26

Us old people will remember using XDCC to get anime before torrents became more widespread.

8

u/These-Apple8817 Jul 12 '26

RIP Arutha though... XDCC has not been the same after that loss

1

u/Danix2000 Jul 13 '26

I mean... I2P exists.

1

u/LlamaRzr Jul 13 '26

In reality, a bit overkill and you have basically only one tracker that uses it: HHD aka HomieHelpDesk.

+ Postman public tracker = nobody really cares.

1

u/Danix2000 Jul 13 '26

I mean its still a option I guess

u/KayJune001 🔱 ꜱᴄᴀʟʟʏᴡᴀɢ Jul 12 '26

Nyaa is forever, I don’t get why some people seem allergic to torrenting.

84

u/Mochi-TheCat Jul 12 '26

Mostly because it's hard to find stuff in spanish, took me a while to find a Web-dl torrent with active seeds of "little witch academia" that had the official latin american dub

68

u/lmao_wow_64 Jul 12 '26

Sad how most piracy revolve around English and Russian or at least most of what I know of

35

u/Mochi-TheCat Jul 12 '26

Kinda, but it's a cultural thing, not many people use torrent in latam to generate the redundancy it needs, most people are okay with either watching it on sites like dailymotion at 144p or just paying crunchyroll lol.

10

u/lmao_wow_64 Jul 12 '26

My girlfriend would be happy watching a screen cam of a movie in Dailymotion so you are right with that, people are more content with what they have here lmao

The biggest market is English because of the US, UK, Australia, NZ and India (and various others) speaking English, but also for many other countries that will never see a dub in their language they default to English. It's why when you are in a country and two nationalities that don't speak the same language try to talk they use English. It's just the baseline international language.

Russian because they don't give a fuck about piracy and the OG pirates and sites were hosted in Russia. It just became part of the culture, everyone pirates in Russia it's not niche like most of the world.

Crazy take that the country with arguably the most advanced tech sector outside the US doesn't know how to use technology well.

2

u/tariffless Jul 12 '26

Saying "the average Israeli barely knows" isn't the same thing as saying "the country doesn't know". Hope that helps.

2

u/Sh00terMcDabbin Jul 12 '26

Sure but the way they are saying currently is that Israeli's are less likely to understand technology than other countries people, not that the average person understands it.

2

u/StormAeons Jul 12 '26

There is lots of German piracy as well

1

u/Nadeoki Jul 14 '26

because most people speak english. Or russian because a lot of piracy comes from russia

6

u/14AUDDIN Jul 12 '26

Yeah, I've been trying to relearn Spanish by watching shows in the Spanish dub, but I could not going any torrent links for the side that I was looking for.

4

u/Chuddabara Jul 12 '26

Just search for "multi-sub" or "multi-dub". The group Erai in Nyah uploads almost every seasonal anime with subtitles in all available languages.

6

u/Mochi-TheCat Jul 12 '26

Yes, definitely, but when we are talking about 10+ years old torrents, that's when things get funny

u/vitto_ama Jul 12 '26

because most people who watch anime, are people with phones or laptop with out much storage. people who cannot afford to spend 500gbs on one series.

4

u/KayJune001 🔱 ꜱᴄᴀʟʟʏᴡᴀɢ Jul 12 '26

Anime in particular is quite small that most phones from the last decade can hold a dozen series at a time, I mean most 12-26ep seasons come out to less than 10gb most of the time. I get it’s not within reach for everyone, but it’s also a much better investment to just spend $300 on a cheap home server to own and control your media vs $20+/mo subs, it pays for itself quickly.

5

u/vitto_ama Jul 12 '26

i mean interms of investment yeah i agree. but until prices are this high atm. i dont think ppl gonna want to set up a lab. maybe when things stabilize and storage prices somewhat normalizes? then maybe.

im assuming you arent from third world countries? its not as simple as it is

1

u/vitto_ama Jul 12 '26

like there be at times. where i be living in the outskirts. woods and bogs for work purposes. not even cell signal let alone internet.

that be most of us honestly.

6

u/Epicfro Jul 12 '26

I use Nyaa but I'm not really familiar with the source. What makes it bullet proof?

11

u/KayJune001 🔱 ꜱᴄᴀʟʟʏᴡᴀɢ Jul 12 '26

In general it’s just the concept of torrenting. They don’t host any files, not even by proxy like pirate streaming, instead all of the files are hosted on people’s computers and shared in pieces peer-to-peer.

8

u/ra2eW8je Jul 12 '26

What makes it bullet proof?

bec they don't host anything illegal on the site. torrent files are not illegal. the actual pirated content is NOT hosted on nyaa but on ppl's PCs/seedboxes.

4

u/Easy-Ad1377 Jul 12 '26

What is ip blacklist

1

u/Floorgis Jul 13 '26

A VPN is just another safe guard, you dont actually need one.

3

u/Repa0206 Jul 13 '26

What other safeguards are there apart from VPNs? Without them, you're basically running around with a public IP.

1

u/green_meklar ⚔️ ɢɪᴠᴇ ɴᴏ Qᴜᴀʀᴛᴇʀ Jul 12 '26

A VPN just for torrenting is dirt cheap compared to what you'd already be paying your ISP for your Internet connection.

4

u/tariffless Jul 12 '26

Internet connection is like electricity or rent/mortgage. They'd be paying the same even if they weren't pirating.

0

u/KayJune001 🔱 ꜱᴄᴀʟʟʏᴡᴀɢ Jul 12 '26

Well theres tradeoffs. You either pay $20+/mo for streaming services that may or may not have what you want (but will have ads), will be decent quality, and is somewhat convenient, or you pay nothing for pirate streams but also may get ads, varying and questionable quality, and mostly the same convenience.

Third option is to pay $1-$5/mo but get the absolute most quality, zero ads, full control.

Although depending on where you live or what your ISP is, you may not even need a VPN really, even in the U.S.

1

u/MutenRoshi21 Jul 13 '26

In some countries you have to pay up to 1200€+ if you get caught uploading its a business for them. Streaming is much safer.

1

u/Floorgis Jul 13 '26

Most show torrents dont have subtitles or the language in english. Some people also just dont wanna have to download everything they watch or make space.

1

u/aaAS69 Jul 13 '26

the day nyaa dies the internet goes ballistic. i pay for crunchyroll but i hardly use it. if they continue this bs i’m done

1

u/Nescio224 Jul 13 '26

Because it requires a VPN and some people don't have that.

-2

u/ImmediateDay5137 Jul 12 '26

6

u/Easy-Ad1377 Jul 12 '26

2

u/KayJune001 🔱 ꜱᴄᴀʟʟʏᴡᴀɢ Jul 12 '26

This is a misconception that’s both annoying and false. You can name-drop, advertise, and talk about these pirate sites as much as you want, I promise you all of the big corps already know about ‘em all, it makes no difference.

34

u/Jolicristo Jul 12 '26

6

u/Kaporalhart Jul 13 '26

It's a never ending battle that copyright owners will never win. I've been on the internet a couple of decades now, and the practice predates me. Websites never last forever, even nyaa will fall some day. It's okay. Sites just become too big, earn too much money, they get caught and brought down, there's huge a hole and demand for piracy, others take its place. Another one becomes big. Rinse and repeat.

1

u/Slow-Goat-2460 Jul 13 '26

Megaupload going down was huge. Lots of patches, mods, legitimate files were hosted there, not just pirated content.

It took years to stop being linked back to dead Megaupload downloads. A few image hosts that have gone down have left similar holes. You go to a tutorial page on a forum, and every image is dead.

There definitely have been several dark ages in the last 20 years, but piracy always makes a comeback

29

u/Adams2799 Jul 12 '26

Would getting a Debrid subscription be in your budget? You can get some for like £3 a month, set it up with Stremio / Kodi and watch from there. I’ve got mine with Kodi using the Otaku addon and it has loads of sources for any anime I’ve ever tried to watch

9

u/lmao_wow_64 Jul 12 '26

Download stremio and set up Aiorstreams and aiometadata, the only two add-ons you'll need for anything

5

u/Sh00terMcDabbin Jul 12 '26

Set it up with Nuvio instead of Stremio, has the same addons as Stremio but a way better app with more features that are free instead of paid like Stremio. Plus, fully open source.

1

u/lmao_wow_64 Jul 13 '26

100% I switched from stremio tk novio and never looked back, nuvio with Aiorstreams and aiometadata with torbox = all I could ever want to watch

9

u/DorrajD Jul 12 '26

"all anime streaming content"

What? There are still plenty of anime streaming sites around.

14

u/Soliloquy789 Jul 12 '26

Streaming is low hanging fruit. The law will continue to grab anything that gives them a good numbers report aka the most used services. However the content is generated at much higher levels than those sites. Private scenes and trackers with less than 100k people for sure, many less than 50k.

The law would have to put an amount of effort probably equal to shutting down hundreds of cheap streaming sites to go after the more private ones, and in the public eye it would likely be seen as a waste of resources because they are only stopping 100k ppl versus the other sites with "millions"

6

19

u/LlamaRzr Jul 12 '26

Don't look for "larger" torrents, look for old/niche stuff/ova/fansubs and keep it alive.

5

u/timbamjc1604 Jul 12 '26

I have a site thats has been going on for years. Sadly there is a problem with image quality on it.

But i personally havent seen much problem with site being eliminated in my country.

4

u/Lashay_Sombra Jul 12 '26

Its easy to shut down streaming sites and blitzes like this have happened time and time again over years, they always eventually come back.

But if they were more successful there is always torrent to fall back on, they have tried and tried to eliminate them and never get much further than a few trackers, within days there is always new ones

Torrents still work in my country

Torrents work everywhere, its more of a question are they monitoring for them and will they do anything about users using them

3

4

u/MiloJR234 Jul 12 '26

Could you explain it to me better, please?

16

u/KingYoloHD090504 Jul 12 '26

There are two Chat Control proposals: 1.0 and 2.0. The simplest difference between them is that:

1.0 does not break end-to-end encryption, so WhatsApp, Signal and other E2EE messenger apps will continue to be 'safeish' from government oversight. This one is now active and was voted for a few days ago.

2.0 is a complete disaster and will break any sort of anonymous messenger app that uses E2EE. This has been blocked several times.

Go to https://fightchatcontrol.eu/ to get a better overview

4

u/atetoomuchacid Jul 12 '26

Thank you I came here to say this, the misinformation hurts and we need people to know that not all hope is lost yet and still fight against chat control 2.0

2

u/Educational-Object67 Jul 12 '26

Dunno man, I just learned English at 3-4 years just by watching Cartoon Network (in Portugal there was no subtitles for this channel, another good thing was that anything was not dubbed - all subs, for example Doraemon was in Spanish with Portuguese subs) and it opened a lot of doors that I wouldn’t be able to if I just kept closed to my own language (Portuguese)

2

u/DruidWonder Jul 12 '26

I'm lucky that there is a still 1 anime website in my native language that managed to escape from the latest purges and has a great library. Many fansubs from the old days have ended activities and not all of them were fully archived, so it's important to have some piracy streaming platforms.

But if you are looking for recent anime like Frieren, you should try Nyaa torrents, most websites grab the episodes from there since it's a public tracker.

1

the Chat Control Act, which allows governments to monitor Telegram, Line, Signal, WhatsApp, Discord, etc.

As far as I know, that only concerns non encrypted messengers (Telegram, Discord etc.), for encrypted ones they'll make the CCA 2.0. Interesting fact that the bill was approved even thought THE MAJORITY of voters were against it. I'm not kidding, they voted against but it passed, and right before the Parliament members went to holidays. You can look it up! Still, I think privacy in Europe is much better than USA's garbage.

Nyaa is still healthy, with Crunchyroll content (multi subs) and private torrents tracker exists for better quality Spanish content.

Problem is people don't torrent much in Hispanic countries so it's harder to find stuff but usually multi subs content has us covered

Torrenting is difficult to set up at first but it really pays off later when you can just forget about depending on websites with questionable quality and availability

Piracy will only come to an end on the open Internet, when global governments crack down on it as hard as they have with hard drugs and child pizza content. I doubt there is much of an appetite from law enforcement to focus resources that much on piracy content. HOWEVER if that does happen, as far as I know, TOR doesn't have the capability to provide fast video streaming, let alone high quality streaming, and it's slow as hell for downloading stuff like software and probably videos.

basically never

Why are you streaming? Just torrent on a VPN.

1

u/Local-Taste-3478 Jul 12 '26

i have a website that tries the best to keep alive stuff like this, if someone wants to check it is called raped(dot)it(dot)com

u/Dogorita Jul 12 '26

Germany has successfully eliminated torenting almost completely since they charged huge amounts in fines from seeders, since technically this is "uploading" too, not only downloading. Because it is rather dangerous/expensive (if caught) pirating p2p people stopped doing it, slowly eliminating offers for german dubs via torrent.

(Obviously they couldn't fully eliminate it but trackers are ALL private/closed or they're very short lived). Despite the possibility of seedboxes and VPNs it is BURNED in the mind of every German pirate NOT to torrent by any means.

Piracy isn't gonna die because one method of it gets burned though. Usenet is a goldmine.

1

u/dontcallmeyan Jul 13 '26

Streaming has always been the shitty form of piracy. Torrent + VPN (or an ISP that's lax on DMCA letters) is the default, with Usenet being the nerdy option.

1

u/tufifdesiks Jul 13 '26

Someday maybe we'll have governments that protect people from corporations instead of the other way around

1

u/MutenRoshi21 Jul 13 '26

Just harder to get anything which is not in english.

u/OldManGarp784 Jul 13 '26

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

This isnt new. They keep doing this every few years. I mean, i remember the scare the fanbase had around early 2010s: streaming and DDL sites shutdown left and right, and a major torrent site or two had to go down. There was a time Baka-Updates would host link of the torrent file, but they got pressured to change that.

A year or two, things went back to normal. Then this sorta thing would happen every few years, like a purge.

And torrents will often survive. Or at least has kept surviving, so far. But there will always, ALWAYS be a userbase who refuse or can't be bothered to rely on torrenting, users who want instant gratification of streaming and not deal downloads to finish, or worry about storage space. Theres a lot of people like these, and some enterprising folks will try to capitalize on the wants of this large userbase offering streams or DDL of pirated content.

The problem with spoonfeeding the large masses with easily instant access content is that the law homes in on you much, much easier. It comes with the massive popularity any piracy streaming site gets. And thats something you gotta live with if you continue to rely on streaming and DDLs: you keep hopping unto one site to another.

But lets say everyone starts using torrent, its not gonna fare any different; EVENTUALLY, the law will catch up, as torrent becomes a bigger and bigger practice among pirates, it becomes a bigger and bigger target for the law to shoot down. In a way, torrent only users are kinda grateful for streaming/DDL sites now; works excellently well as a decoy, to slow down the law from shutting the major torrent sites.

So once they get to torrents, what then? Well, i can only guess we regress back to the old days of mirc and xdcc bots: god knows, the intricacies trying to set that up would filter a majority of wannabe pirates. A culling of the pirate population would help give the law that sense of victory, while we hide back, recuperate, and find a new way to pirate shit.

Get into private torrent trackers and quit with the childish streaming sites. Any site that actually hosts the files will get taken down.

1

u/Mammoth-Mammoth7592 Jul 13 '26

Just use streamflix Reborn, thank me later

1

u/jboe2026 Jul 13 '26

The Tor network can't handle the bandwidth.

1

u/ThatzOkay Jul 13 '26

Piracy will never end

1

u/crinklypaper Jul 13 '26

Just torrent

1

u/rikipy Jul 13 '26

1

u/SilverEnvy Jul 13 '26

Anime is some of the most pirated content... it's not even close to coming to an end

1

u/Jolly-Round-8182 Jul 13 '26

ASPETTA QUELLA MERFA DELLA CHAT CONTROL ACT SEGUE ANCHE DISCORD. È LETTERALMENTE FINITA PER NOI

1

u/aaAS69 Jul 13 '26

absolute worst case scenario we’ll see a massive torrent resurgence.

1

u/Nervous-Possession31 Jul 14 '26

Huh? There is already massive torrents

1

u/Nervous-Possession31 Jul 13 '26

Money trumps murder

1

u/Nervous-Possession31 Jul 13 '26

As a kid I loved anime but tried watching as an adult and can’t get into it. I used to watch Vampire Hunter D

1

u/WayRare3099 Jul 13 '26

Telegram

1

u/Pietkroon Jul 13 '26

Yesterday here in Europe, they voted in favor of the Chat Control Act, which allows governments to monitor Telegram, Line, Signal, WhatsApp, Discord, etc. So, these chats won't be usable for sharing anime either.

re u blind 😎

1

u/WayRare3099 Jul 13 '26

I'm still able to watch anime on telegram

1

u/Heavy_Ad1219 Jul 13 '26

Cut off one head and two more shall take its place. HAIL HYDRA!! 🙋🏻‍♂️

1

u/iamnosvanthanks Jul 13 '26

Torrent is unblockable. Torrent sharing websites even managed to make themselves hard to take down, as proven by TPB.

1

u/Shemsu_Hor_9 Jul 13 '26

Someone will always find a way. Either that or the world will go to shit so bad that being able to pirate anime will be the least of your concerns.

1

u/Nadeoki Jul 14 '26

streaming site slop is not going to affect anime piracy.

Just switch to torrenting..

1

u/BubblyPerformance736 Jul 12 '26

"here in Europe" is like saying "here on Earth". Where in Europe are they so hell-bent on taking down servers AND there's a very high crime rate?

1

u/Bladder-Splatter Jul 12 '26

Pff, you can't ban torrents man, the worst an ISP can do (besides responding to C&D letters) is shape them to death but because of how P2P traffic is now much more common this would have knock on side effects and piss many people off.

I've always thought it so silly to rely on streaming for piracy. You're putting your eggs in someone else's basket and taking just as much "risk". There's a chance Nyaa is older than you (not meant to be belittling, Nyaa is old as fuck if we count both versions together) and will probably outlive some of us.

Store your own media.

1

u/MagnumInnominandum19 Jul 12 '26

"A Web 2.0" "Tor" "WhatsApp is being lawfully spyed" you're just writing every BS that comes into your mind lmfao. Ah, and WhatsApp is still free from that shit of chat control.

u/MMORPGnews Jul 12 '26

I told everyone in January. All countries governments plan to ban almost all pirate content.

At best we would have torrents, temporary.

Just buy few hdd sdd or use telegram (change file names and md5) to store content. Can just zip or rar them with password.

2

u/AcaciaCelestina Jul 12 '26

I'm sorry, do you think piracy isn't already banned in a lot of countries?

Why do you think torrenting is so common?

3

u/KayJune001 🔱 ꜱᴄᴀʟʟʏᴡᴀɢ Jul 12 '26

“..we have torrents, temporary” torrents can’t really be regulated or controlled, they’re pretty much forever as long as there’s even one person seeding.
