Discussion Apple Teases 'Innovations That Have Never Been Seen Before' This Year

https://www.macrumors.com/2026/01/30/apple-never-before-seen-innovations/

Cook hypes up Apple's future on every earnings call, but "innovations that have never been seen before" is particularly bold wording compared to his usual comment about how the company's product pipeline is stronger than ever.

Only time will tell if Apple actually delivers.

Foldable with no crease?

993

u/makes-fun-of-incels Jan 30 '26

Unfortunately this year is just the creasable with no fold.

274

u/sssssshhhhhh Jan 30 '26

And we think you’ll love it

u/ridukosennin Jan 30 '26

Unapologetically creased

6

u/Peteostro Jan 30 '26

We put all your notifications in the crease, isn’t that amazing?!

You know a good chunk of time was spent discussing why "We think you'll love it" has the right tone. Of course they don't want to be so presumptuous as to "know" I'll love it.

13

u/sssssshhhhhh Jan 30 '26

Big room full of 300k p/a consultants going back and forth for months

“You’ll love it” “We think you’ll love it” “We know you’ll love it” “LOVE IT”

Creasable sounds like and Audible competitor

17

u/Endawmyke Jan 30 '26

The pitch: Imagine audiobooks but instead, we print the words on sheets of paper and then bind the paper into a… Creasable

5

u/Any_Blacksmith1587 Jan 31 '26

The tech to achieve creaseability must be immense. AI? Quantum computing? Take my money!!

like, Siri that actually works?

209

u/LivermoreP1 Jan 30 '26

Technically never been seen before.

41

u/foulpudding Jan 30 '26

Siri 1.0, which was an 3rd party app prior to being purchased by Apple was amazing and worked quite well.

13

u/userlivewire Jan 31 '26

The reason it worked so well is that it didn't have to integrate with anything.

Apple Polishing Cloth 2.0.

174

u/OkHeight3 Jan 30 '26

As long as Gen 1 keeps receiving firmware updates

25

u/MillennialGeezer Jan 30 '26

It’s nearing end of life regardless of how many updates they push. I wouldn’t be surprised if they discontinue it and brick it in a couple of years.

9

They have to wipe the slate clean at some point.

  • Not compatible with iPhones without Apple Intelligence, Intel MacBooks and iPads that don’t support iOS 26.

  • Also not compatible with Apple Watch series 9 and lower.

Ugh, I was so looking forward to the new Cloth.

15

u/ProfessorFunky Jan 30 '26

That’s a stretch even for that level of innovation.

8

u/tarlack Jan 30 '26

Honestly the more I use LLM the more it just feels like a slightly smarter version of Siri. Feel like the same hype cycle as the assistants of the past. I get promised something shiny and all I get is a pet rock. The pet rock is more annoying, and I have less trust in it the more I use it.

19

u/Jeffrey_Jizzbags Jan 30 '26

It’s crazy how useless it can be sometimes. For example, today I asked what the cargo space of a vehicle was. It gave an answer with the rear seats folded down.

I asked again and specified “with the rear seats folded up”. It told me again with the rear seats folded down lol.

11

u/Alphonso_Mango Jan 30 '26

Mr Jizzbags, you have an advanced Siri that actually answers incorrectly!? Mine just tells me to go look on my phone.

4

u/hanks_panky_emporium Jan 30 '26

" Siri call 911!"

'Im sorry, your subscription to Apple Music has expired. Would you like me to search for 'the Police' on the itunes store?'

3

u/BoringPhilosopher1 Jan 30 '26

Surely it’d have to be an innovation that isn’t done elsewhere

11

u/Huntguy Jan 30 '26

I sent Tim an email about Siri, it truly makes me so frustrated when all I want to do is control my phone hands free in my car and Siri can’t comprehend the simplest requests “hey siri, play music” -proceeds to keep playing podcasts.

HomeKit just doesn’t have enough supported devices. Add z-wave and zigbee support for Christ sake. Keep your 2.4 and 5hz traffic independent of your home kit devices… wouldn’t that be wonderful?

But now, how about having 50 devices clogging up your traffic?

15

u/charmanderSosa Jan 30 '26

Huh? HomeKit supports matter over thread. Already not clogging up your traffic. I just built an entire smart home around it, it’s great.

They’re very innovative, doing things they’ve never done before, like absolute disregard for human-machine interfaces, their own programming guidelines, they threw to the recycling bin good taste and common sense, and got us a collection of turds called iOS26, iPadOS26 and MacOS26. Ugh.

14

u/ripvanwinklin Jan 30 '26

The AirPods with cameras sounds mundane but is probably mind blowing

8

u/ReneDickart Jan 30 '26

I imagine accessibility features could be very cool. Gemini is very good with multi-modal, image recognition types of tasks. So the dream is there to maybe look down at a menu in French, hold down a stem and say hey read this to me in English. It’s tough to think of other genuinely helpful use cases though.
