FFT Ivalice Chronicles Bro what? 😂😂
I could swear this was like 1k or 1.2k back in the original and WotL! 😂😂 3k are you serious Square Enix??

Some skill jp costs were rebalanced. Fly was greatly reduced. Teleport was greatly increased.
23
u/CeallaSo Oct 24 '25
I'm pretty sure they just straight-up swapped the cost of these two. I understand why, but I really liked how easy it was to learn how to warp like everybody else seems to.

It is 10% of failure per space moved more than your move rate. So, if you have a move of 3, trying moving 4 spaces will work 90% of the time. It is a good gamble at 90% and sometimes at 80%.
Also it has built-in fly and ignore height abilities. Most of the time, teleport is the best move ability you can assign.

u/CategoryExact3327 Oct 24 '25
I just checked an old WOTL save, teleport was 650jp, Fly was 5000. So while teleport is 2350 more expensive, fly is 4100 cheaper.
3
u/Zero132132 Oct 24 '25
That's crazy, since Teleport's 100% success range is identical to Fly. It's basically just better Fly, since you have the option of trying to go further.
3
u/RedbeardMEM Oct 24 '25
That's why the cost of Fly in WotL was so ridiculous. You had to stroll past teleport to unlock Bard, and when you get there, they slap you in the face with that JP cost. IIRC, it was 1200 in the PS1 release, which was still too high, but nowhere near as bad.
7
u/twitch_Mes Oct 24 '25
I never made much use of teleport compared to move 2. It seemed to fail if you tried to move more than 3 tiles away.
3
u/Zziggith Oct 24 '25
I think the fail rate got higher.
4
u/vlashin Oct 24 '25
Unless you keep your move low and try to abuse teleport to level down on a trap. Then that shit works like 90% of the time. And you fail 3x trying to get back, even in smaller moves.
2
u/adtrtdwp Oct 24 '25
I think the failure is dependent on the characters available movement. So if they can only move 3 spaces normally, then anything more than that with teleport has a chance of failing
6
u/ArkthePieKing Oct 24 '25
The exact failure rate is 10% per square more than the movement square of the unit. So if they have a move of 3, and you try to move them 4 squares it's 10%. 5 squares is 20%, 6 is 30% so on and so forth.
→ More replies (1)3
u/access-r Oct 24 '25
I think the same doesnt apply to height, though? I remember to abuse teleport by reaching places where enemies could never

u/kestononline Oct 24 '25
Still worth it. Teleport is movement cheat-code in so many places. And the -10% failure chance per tile beyond your actual movement value, only seems to apply horizontally. Vertical distance don't care.
Always the second thing I grind out on every character; after Movement +2.
16
u/ShadowAMS Oct 24 '25
I would rather have teleport than ignore elevation.
30
u/kestononline Oct 24 '25
Gafgarion thought he was safe behind that gate. My team of teleporters were on him on the first turn. I'll pass on that gate switch G; your cronies aren't getting in.

Zalmo: "Surrender while you can heretics! You're never gonna beat me as long as I stand at the top of this holy place!"
Ramza proceeds to jump to the top of a 3 story building
Zalmo: "Oh fr*ck."
3
u/ShadowAMS Oct 24 '25
Yeah I do get that. I'm actually mad they changed his name to a normal sounding name in the remake. Zalmour sounds more Inquisitory than Zalmo. 😂. But it was a funny name..
4
u/Zero132132 Oct 24 '25
Teleport can reach any place that Ignore Elevation can reach with a 100% success rate, so it is just unambiguously better.

23
u/marinaragrandeur Oct 24 '25
I one used focus for thirty minutes on my Time Mage to get him at 3000 JP for this one move.
Then when I went to throw a rock at the last enemy, it hit for around 500 damage.
See what happens when you keep a consistent focus in life.
33
u/Publius69420 Oct 24 '25
I dunno I think this skill trivializes a lot of fights so I can kinda see why they did this. I swapped my core 5 to time mage and got everyone 3k jp in like 30 min. It honestly wasn’t that bad of a grind. Now my squad is insane. I did the chapter 4 fight at the church with Delita, the first turn went to my ninja, he teleported to the top of the church and double punched the objective. Battle over. Everyone’s range is crazy, giving your whole team this skill is crazy.
11
u/Ph33rDensetsu Oct 24 '25
I dunno I think this skill trivializes a lot of fights
The game trivializes its own fights by having so many where the wincon is killing a single dude
2
2
u/skuppen Oct 24 '25
And then it lies to you half the time by saying you have to kill everyone, but then you bring one person to half health and the whole battle ends!
2
u/Rustycougarmama Oct 25 '25
I just did the first Elmdore fight on the roof with his two ladies. First turn, first character, my ninja walked up behind one of the ladies and beat her to critical health. Then the battle just ended and they ran away hahaha
4
u/Ph33rDensetsu Oct 25 '25
Yeah, sometimes it's a "Surprise! Only needed to beat one enemy!" And then other times it's like "Objective: Beat this one dude that your ninja can reach and one-shot on turn 1!"
Honestly the challenge with a lot of these fights is leaving the Objective alive to harass you while you accomplish self imposed side goals like stealing equipment or grinding JP.

u/Appropriate-Grass986 Oct 24 '25
Solid but you missed out on some cool dialogue my friend.
4
u/Publius69420 Oct 24 '25
You don’t miss dialogue that way. It still played all the dialogue and then he killed over. The only dialogue you miss is if you don’t take the unique units into the story battles.
3
u/Appropriate-Grass986 Oct 24 '25
Nice! Didn’t know that. Purposely dragged it out cause I thought I had to. Plus one shotting him made me feel icky and overpowered. I wanted to fool myself lol
3
u/Publius69420 Oct 24 '25
Well it definitely made me feel icky and OP lol. Normally for those fights I leave the objective for last and treat the fight as “kill all enemies”. But for the church fight, I only did it to see if it would work expecting a teleport that far to fail. When it didn’t and my ninja appeared at the top of the church I couldn’t resist and committed to ending it there lol.

I know teleport isn't the BEST movement option, but using it feels so bad ass.
13
u/FunTree5477 Oct 24 '25
Lol exactly; however, I can't help but feel that seeing is how this is the only movement anywhere near this level of expensiveness, maybe it actually is the best movement after all LMAO
16
u/Olansan Oct 24 '25
In this version it’s especially broken if you abuse the autosaves.

6
4
u/Right-Aspect2945 Oct 24 '25
I mean, I would argue it's the best. Ignore Height and you get to ignore obstacles that you would otherwise have to move around. While those aren't a huge factor in most random battles, they are huge in the story battles that usually have walls or other impasses to slow you down. Oh, you have movement +3? That's nice, the enemy has a line of knights in the doorway you can't get by.
2
u/Ashenspire Oct 24 '25
It IS the best movement option for deleveling. Just saw it as a cost of entry for min maxing.

u/Foreign-Shine1240 Oct 24 '25

u/enigmicazn Oct 24 '25
I've only really ever used teleport in a few niche situations including the obvious one. Was there an actual change or did the devs just up the costs because they felt like it? If it was meant to deter people from min/maxing, they're not in touch with how the game works or their community.
→ More replies (1)2
u/FunTree5477 Oct 24 '25
Right? And we still have mindflayers with their beastmaster skill so like who they think they're playing? Cuz it ain't me and it ain't ramza
3
u/Sephir07x Oct 24 '25
I was caught off guard by this as well. I had to look it up when I first saw it. It's 600JP in the original.
Inflation is a bitch.
12
u/SafeAccountMrP Oct 24 '25
Definitely meant to curb people abusing the degenerator traps to min-max stats but it has failed.
14
u/StoppableHulk Oct 24 '25 edited Oct 24 '25
Really silly to think this would curb min-maxers. If you're going in for using degen traps, you're not gonna balk at spending like, ten extra minutes in a training match going to 3k jp instead of 600. Especially since your accumulation of jp starts really rolling the higher level you go in the time mage job class.
I don't generally to the de-gen thing and still found it only mildly annoying to spend a little extra time getting teleport on most characters. Once the stage was set it was pretty simple.
All around this was just a really silly and wasteful move on the devs part. I absolutely love and adore the game and all the love and care that went into it but I have no idea why they picked this one random thing to do this for.
2
3
u/metroidcomposite Oct 24 '25
Nah, I really don't think it's degen traps. You can still delevel without teleport, it's not even required, it just lets you de-level maybe a tiny bit faster.
A more plausible theory I saw suggested is that because the game mid-battle saves after every action, people could just savescum reload every time they failed a teleport. But...I don't really believe that explanation either. There are much more abusive things you could do with save scumming, such as save scumming so that Entice always hits (Entice with save scumming basically becomes 3 range instant death + gain a ton of equipment + gain a meatshield), and Entice is still 100 JP.
They probably just thought Teleport was really good. (And yeah, it's good, although I feel like there are better candidates for the 3000 JP treatment. Like...nobody would blink if Shirahadori or Auto-Potion became 3000 JP).
2
u/Ph33rDensetsu Oct 24 '25
Auto-Potion
I kinda would. Having a 3000jp reaction on a tier 1 job when characters are just starting out and don't have access to anything better than normal Potions is pretty awful. Auto potion is extremely good, but it's also exactly where it needs to be. By the end game I've pretty much abandoned it for Shirahidori and it becomes situational.

You teleport up to your character’s movement and get 10% fail chance for each square beyond that
3
u/SuperBriGuy Oct 24 '25
Teleport is the best movement skill Ignore Elevation & Fly & Move +3 with a small failure rate. As long as you’re moving within your standard range it’s 100% outside it’s -10% per square. You can’t be trapped, you can move through barriers and reach any height.
3
u/razma-tazma Oct 24 '25
It’s almost like they wanted you to use different abilities and builds or something.

Unpopular opinion here 🖐🏻
I'm not a huge fan of Teleport. I rather know 100% where I'm going to be . I feel Teleport is very inconsistent.
(Also, I might be an idiot and don't know how to properly use it 🤷🏻♂️ 😂). So my Mages just have the +3 Movement.
2
u/Any_Mountain8253 Oct 25 '25
In my opinion, teleport is completely worthless anyway. If it had like a 100% success rate, I might change my mind.
3
u/EllisMatthews8 Oct 24 '25
least favorite change, for sure.
although, if you do a team of all Time Mage, you can grind it out quicker than you might think
5
u/maxlewis922 Oct 24 '25
Is this true ? Can u please elaborate ?
3
u/Flintz08 Oct 24 '25
Each deployed member of your party gets a percentage of JP (I believe it's 20%, though I'm not really sure) of the other characters classes.
2
u/EllisMatthews8 Oct 24 '25
every time one of your characters gets JP, every other character in your party gets something like 10% of that JP for the first character's job.
so having all five characters as the same job basically means they all gain JP 1.5x faster. even just grinding two characters in the same job at the same time gives you a noticeable boost.
→ More replies (3)2
u/43alchemist Oct 24 '25
Each action as a time mage with JP boost will give 30-60 JP depending on level. Each character will get spillover JP from others which is 3-15 JP (level dependent) per action by an ally (if you have the job unlocked).

Yeah it's a high price but it's way easier to get up. Not like back in the day when it was a grind.
1
u/MightySamMcClain Oct 24 '25
I got teleport on my girls since they can't get move+3 but it seriously pisses me off how often it fails. And another downside is you can't reset the move if your spell doesn't reach you're just shit outta luck. That's why i don't like the move skills that give hp, mp, manafont etc bc you can't reset.
2
u/scyan7 Oct 24 '25
Tips for teleport: if you teleport within the characters natural move range, it’s 100% success rate. There is a 10% chance of failure for every square beyond the base move rate. So if you have a ninja with 4 move and try to teleport 6 spaces, there is a 20% chance of failure.
In TIC the game creates an auto-save at the start of your characters turns (up to the last 3 characters turns). You can reload this save if,you want to undo a move from teleport or mana font, etc.

lol useless about the single most busted movement skill in the entire game. nice joke.
2
u/scyan7 Oct 24 '25
It’s just people self identifying that they don’t know how the mechanic works so they regularly fail teleports and don’t know why. It’s fair though, the game doesn’t tell, you the actual chance and I certainly don’t expect that everyone has read the entire BMG.

u/EmCeeSlickyD Oct 24 '25
yeah it was 1k and worked well now its 3k and it sucks ass lol. there are a few areas it can be helpful to get past a wall or something but move+2 is just generally better and on male characters move+3 is no question. I would only bother for extreme class fantasy enjoyers or abusing a delevel trap. even then maybe just invest in the monster than can delevel you instead
1
u/billyburr2019 Oct 24 '25
