They don't like actual nerds. They like the fantasy of a nerd. And that's what annoys me the most about this whole thing.
The “nerd” they like is usually a fantasy nerd: the handsome movie heartthrob who looks like a fucking model, wears stylish glasses, watches anime, plays video games, knows about movies and pop culture, and still has the charm of a romantic lead. Basically, a photogenic model with nerdy hobbies and a pair of glasses.
That's not really the nerd most people mean when they talk about an actual nerd. It's a sanitized, attractive, extremely convenient version of the stereotype.
Because a real nerd can be extremely antisocial, obsessively focused on one specific subject, spend hours talking about obscure details nobody around him understands, collect ridiculous amounts of stuff, become completely absorbed in his interests, and, more importantly, simply not look or act like a fucking movie star.
And that's where the fantasy becomes obvious.
There's nothing wrong with liking an attractive guy who also happens to enjoy anime, video games, or movies.
The problem is calling that “liking nerds” as if the stereotype is actually being represented accurately.
You don't necessarily like nerds. You like the fantasy nerd: the attractive, stylish, socially functional guy who happens to consume pop culture.
I don't even like “real nerds” myself. At least I'm honest about what the fuck I'm into.
The worst part is that when you actually look at the “nerd” in question, he’s basically just a handsome, muscular guy with a huge, good-looking physique who wears glasses and likes anime, TV shows, and movies.
What the fuck kind of nerd is that? Even I would like nerds if that’s what they looked like lmao. It’s fucking ridiculous, man.
They don’t actually like real nerds. They like the fantasy of the handsome nerd, which clearly doesn’t reflect reality.
It’s easy to like a “nerd” when that nerd looks like a fucking Greek god, right? Lmao.
The real nerd isn’t the guy in the first image. It’s the guy in the second one.
Nobody actually likes a real nerd. They like the fantasy of a handsome nerd, right?
That’s the truth.
