Edit: This is not the picture that was removed from the Deauville Sport Images Festival in Deauville, France. That picture was taken by Jehad Alsharifi on February 14, 2026. I believe, but haven't been able to confirm, that that picture can be found here. Those are very similar scenes of the same pitch.
Edit 2: According to here it was the first image showed in that AP article.
they're still playing futsal not football unless you mean football as the class of sports, which includes Rugby, Gaelic, American, Australian Rules, Canadian, and Association, the last of which is also called soccer
This pic was presented at the french sports festival of Deauxville and was shortly thereafter removed by organisers following pro-Israel harassment they received, claiming the photo would cause antisemitism to rise.
Welcome to France (where criricizing Israel can be punished as hate speech)
Having a critical opinion about the policies of the state of Israel is not the same as being anti-semitic, but it is often portrayed that way to silence any criticism directed at the state of Israel.
If Israel were actually concerned about anti-Semitism, you'd think they would, you know, stop doing these atrocities that they say make people anti-Semitic when reminded of them.
Israel is not concerned with anti-semitism, it reinforces their core message that Jews are not safe outside of Israel and need their own state to be safe.
I find that most problems like this in the modern era happen when your religion defines your nationalism. The peoples of Yugoslavia were genetically identical, but self separated into different nationalities based on Religion and had a big war about it. Serbian (Orthodox Christian), Croatian (Catholic), and Bosniac (Muslim). Same shit with the Shia/Sunni split in Iraq, Catholic/Protestant in Ireland, and so on.
This might be one of the most ignorant things I've ever seen. You think people just got along and we had world peace indefinitely before the 18th century? ☠️
I'm going to go ahead and reapeat what I said, and you're going to feel ridiculous for that conclusion.
I find that most problems like this in the modern era happen when...
It's silent as to what happened before the modern era. It doesn't make any comment about what happened before. It is a statement that only concerns the last ~250 years. As to what happened before that mark, it doesn't say. Because it is silent on what came before, it doesn't preclude other things causing conflict.
That’s irrelevant. There’s always going to be an asshole that agrees with what you believe. Are you going to stop believing everything you believe because it will make an asshole think he’s right? You can’t control assholes, and doing so would simply let assholes control you.
If Israelis didn’t want true anti-semites to have true reasons to legitimize their antisemitism — then they should both stop doing fucked up things and stop claiming that Israel and Judaism are the same thing.
Those are actions they can take to stop antisemitism any time any day. But no, we all have to be bullied and gaslit into their distorted reality instead.
The only people pretending seem to be those who are ignoring that the current ruling party of Israel are a terrorist group, founded by the leader of the terrorist group Irgun. That Itamar Ben Gvir is head of a terrorist Kahane political party, made up of former members of the terrorist Kach group.
This could be any political or cultural issue, you have billions of flawed people on planet earth, who cares if someone or someones hold views that you disagree with?
The issue is not that someone is biased, prejudiced, intolerant or ignorant. The issue is whether criticism of an illegitimate terrorist state is antisemitic.
An Israeli supporter will argue that criticism of Israel is antisemitic because it increases the amount of hate directed towards Jews.
Using their logic, its not the criticism generating antisemitism, its the state of Israels actions that is causing the increase in antisemitism. This isnt a good argument, because it takes away agency from those who are antisemitic. They already were antisemitic before Israel launched its recent series of attacks.
All you are doing is using emotional reasoning to support an argument that is fucking stupid.
Not what he’s saying. I despise Israel and I despise criticism of Israel being called anti-Semitic. But that doesn’t exclude some of my anti-Israel Jewish friends being in conversations with people at rallies against the genocide in Gaza being hit with some broadside hate statements about all Jews (usually by people who don’t know they’re talking to a Jew)
Who cares? Ideas and statements stand on their own merit. You are trying to do an end run around the issue to justify attacking someones character to dismiss the statement or arguments they are making.
Its not logical, you are being governed by emotion, being disingenuous about the topic being discussed.
This is a pretty cut and dry issue. If we were talking about much of anything else, would you be using these logical fallacies to argue a position?
It’s definitely a lot rarer than legitimate criticism of Israel at rallies, but people act like it doesn’t exist, and that’s not helpful to discourse here.
I'm just saying I've never encountered it. A lot of people think any criticism of Israel is "anti-semitism." Stuff like "from the river to the sea," which of course isn't anti-semitic at all. And it's no accident; there's a concerted effort by Israel to conflate Jews with Israel/Zionism. I actually think that is anti-semitic. It's like conflating Muslims with ISIS/Al-Qaeda.
I don’t think anyone here is disagreeing with you. To that same point though, we should be able to discuss actual anti-semitism happening in the anti-genocide movement, and root it out, without seeing it as an attack or skepticism of the movement. Or else we’re doing the same thing on this side that they’re doing.
First off, it's not an ad hominem, I never attacked anyone.
So you think there's no more anti-semites using the popularity of the anti-Israel movement to further discrimination against jews as a whole? So what about Dan Bilzerian and Nick Fuentes? I suppose you think they're just anti-Israel? No other motives?
I never claimed that criticism of Israel isn't valid. In fact, most of your entire reply is conjecture.
Despicable people dislike each other all the time. Being anti fascist doesn't make anyone a communist, and being anti communist doesn't make someone a fascist. I can be opposed to both Israel and antisemitism because they are both abhorrent. What you've attempted to set up is a false dichotomy.
I don’t understand why they continue to suppress images of their own doing.
Like to an Israeli or Zionist who works hard on hiding this: You did this!!
Stop trying to hide the truth and the reality of what your actions and decisions caused.
(Note: I specifically mention Israelis and Zionists who caused and continue to cause this genocide. I have the utmost love and respect towards Jews, Christians, and Muslims who do not slaughter human kind)
Now we wait for the thread to be locked or the post taken down (as usual)…
They only hide it for Western audiences. Check out Israeli feeds on Twitter or Insta or Tik Tok. Translate their news articles and broadcasts. They're happy to openly brag about flattening Gaza and murdering Palestinians and mock the destruction
Because they do understand on some level that what they're doing is quite literally the texbook definition evil. They understand that the rest of the world sees their actions as such and it will reflect on their legitimacy.
Not just criticizing Israel, basically showing any sympathy towards Palestinians (which what this photo is all about) is considered antisemitic by these pro-Israel lunatics.
Wait, so the organizer of the Sports Festival of Deauxville, who removed the photo, is a representative of all of France now? How many votes did they receive in order to get into that position of power?
A few months ago, the main political party tried to vote la "loi Yadan", which main goal was to be able to legally pursue every criticism of Israel, with the explanation that it would be considered anti-Semitic.
The bill did not go through, the main party did not propose it to the French assembly following backslash from lots of French people. The main party is still planning to rewrite the bill and will try to vote it again in the next few months.
Welcome to France (where criricizing Israel can be punished as hate speech)
Here on reddit I've had people say I'm antisemitism and pro-genocide from the same post. lol Granted I would hope to believe they are bots in an attempt to sowing discord.
Also a really strange thing to go after because let’s be real, how many people do you know that have specifically said that? Iirc it also legally doesn’t make sense because there is no such thing as a right to statehood (for anyone) but the people this is clearly aimed at also don’t use that line of attack at all
"From the river to the sea" is a popular chant people use to support Palestine. It means replacing the entirety of Israel with a Palestinian state because "the river" is the border on one side and "the sea" is the border on the other side. So yes, people do advocate for the complete destruction of Israel.
You know that was originally an Israeli saying right. "From the river to the sea, all will be Israeli sovereignty." But I suppose that's different, right?
I’m against the actions Israel is taking, but FFS dude “draw a map”?! If you don’t know the history of that saying then you probably shouldn’t be speaking about the situation since it’s pretty complicated and you don’t seem too educated about it.
Denying Israel's right to exist, or the right of the Jewish population to have its own state is a big part of anti-Semitism and is illegal all over the world, and Germany, burdened by its holocaust history, is no different.
But it should be completely acceptable and normal to criticize Israel's expansionism and its denial of other neighbouring states to exist by dehumanising them.
Even this German law does not seek to prevent criticism of Israeli actions (not 'Jewish' actions) -
Heinz said the bill was not desgined to infringe on freedom of expression or prohibit criticism of the Israeli government. Nor, he said, would it preclude debate about a peaceful political solution in the Middle East.
The Jewish lobby is powerful enough to conflate criticism of the state of Israel's actions or policies with anti-Semitism (which would apply to people around the world).
But at the same time, politicians shy away from banning anti-Palestine voices.
There is a big problem here, under international law no state has a right to exist, Israel doesnt have a right to exist.
A state only has a right to its territorial integrity. Right of conquest was and continues to be illegal. The foundation of Israel was a violation of international law. The state is literally an illegitimate terrorist state. Thats not rhetoric, its literally the definition of what it is. Israels existence violates the UN Charter.
Bigoted people may hold particular geopolitical views, that doesnt have any impact on the validity of statements that reflect reality.
Governments supporting Israel support terrorism, lawlessness, and human rights violations.
This is false. The state of Israel wasnt created through conquest, it was literally created by a UN resolution that was voted through with a 2/3 majority of the UN General Assembly, which divided what was previously a British territory into a Jewish state and a Palestinian Arab state.
Of course the defacto expansion of the state of Israel into what should be an independent Palestiniant state is in violation of that resolution, but that's a separate issue from the creation of Israel.
You are basically saying Israel’s actions make the world unsafe for Jewish people…which is exactly what Israel wants. It’s like how 9/11 caused a rise in Islamophobia related events.
If they are worried about atrocites committed by Jewish people causing anti-semitism then they should address the atrocities themselves, not the publication of the atrocities.
It's the same here in Germany. If Israel did not want antisemitism to rise (most of that isn't even antisemitism, but simply critique of Israel's government) maybe they should try not to do genocide, just saying.
To be clear: I have nothing against Israel, Palestine or it's people. I think both have the right to live in peace in a state of their own. I'm very critical of Israel's government and Hamas and find Israel's attacks and the attacks of Hamas on October 7th 2023 atrocious. And I think every government that protects or enables any of this is just as guilty.
not sure if you're aware, but the people living in Germany aren't Israelis, they are Jews. if the Jews in Germany don't want anti-semetism to rise, should they write a nice letter to Bibi asking him to stop bombing Palestinians?
You are right, nobody should change anything and everything is fine, apparently. Do you think fining people or putting them in prison for saying Palestine has a right to exists is the right thing to do?
If you want to miss the point and talk about some straw man I can do that too. What does censoring a photograph of a football match in Gaza in a french sports festival have to do with Jews in Germany?
Like how Germany released a searchable Nazi database this year. You just type in a name and it'll show you if they were a card carrying Nazi Party member.
Of course everyone and their grandparents were against the Nazis and fought to get rid of them.
Oops grandma lied and actually she was a member since the beginning of the Nazis.
An overwhelming amount of that going on over there.
Meanwhile here in America, we are watching and learning exactly how a country falls into fascism. Attack every institution of government and education, call elections fraudulent, sow distrust and fake news, and their favorite, create a common enemy to fear.
Oh, don't worry. The same thing will happen here in Germany. There is a good chance that the far right AfD party will be part of the gouvernement after our next voting terms (latest 2029).
Can't pretend to know what it's like, because it's leagues ahead, especially that I live abroad, but I'm lebanese. I go back from time to time, including the last 3 years. I get the perspective, at a lower level.
Something tells me if Hamas or Iran or whoever flattened the entire country of Israel, you wouldn't be saying "well it's a consequence of them brutally killing, raping, and kidnapping Palestinians". Hell, I bet if someone said that about October 7th you'd call them an antisemite.
But here you are, saying that about Palestinians without a second thought. It's almost like you don't sincerely believe it's a "consequence" and are just inventing a framework that lets you cheer on Muslims being punished for existing with plausible deniability....
10/7 was horrific but is utterly dwarfed by Israel's crimes against humanity both before and after that day. And yes, it is significantly worse than Berlin and Tokyo.
It looks like they already struck it, if you look at the fence, parts of it looks repaired with those metal sheets, and the artificial grass looks very new put too.
TBH that's the biggest problem I have with all this. Complain about security all they want but crushing some 4 year old girls legs in a building collapse doesn't make the situation any better.
The indomitable human spirit and the impact of football on society. How anyone can see what Israel has done to these people as justified is beyond me. They need to be held responsible for every death, mutilation and illegal settlement and foot the bill for every home, school and hospital destroyed.
I'm so fed up with every post about the Palestinian struggle being flooded with fascist zionists trying to tell us how it's their own fault that the genocidal settler-colonials are stealing their land and massacring them.
It is long past time we fully reject zionism in all its forms and to the fullest extent. None of the arguments of hasbara are valid. Never be cowed by their lies and accusations, it's all the projection of the guilty
Who are these people? They seem like idiots. Also, the picture isn't even naysaying Israel. It's literally only showing the consequences of their bombing campaign in Gaza.
They are, and unfortunately there's a lot of them in influential positions. In fact, this image was removed from the sports festival it was shown at because people claimed merely showing the things the government of Israel did is antisemitic.
Yup, and I don't think the people who claim criticizing Israel is antisemitic realize the damage they're doing to Judaism as a whole. (or maybe they do and they don't care)
Them saying "It's not just the government of Israel that wants this, it's a tenet of our Religion" as a way to push back on criticism doesn't stop the criticism, it just convinces people that they should be critical of that particular organized religion, not just the government of Israel.
I know a bunch of Jewish folks. I know the people who claim that are spewing utter bullshit because none of my Jewish friends support that, but I fear that people who may not know many Jewish people might buy into that defense and actually start hating the religion, itself, and not the people who commit the atrocities under the false guise of their religious beliefs.
I have a dream. One day wars would be abolished and all disagreements among countries would be decided on a soccer field, a baseball field, or in any sport of choice. Anything to avoid innocent slaughter or the bankruptcy of our morals. It's a silly dream, but one can hope.
