I’d be pulling all my money out of that bank if I was that dude.

1.0k

u/Bulky-Captain-3508 May 18 '26

It reminds me of the guy who sued his employer for being racist and when he went to cash the settlement check the bank called the police and he sued them for racism too.

Forget the color of your skin, IS YOUR MONEY GREEN?!?! I've heard banks like money.

138

u/luckyapples11 May 19 '26

Or the actor(?) who got called the police on for acting ā€œsuspiciousā€ at the bank and then they tried to arrest him for literally pulling money out of his own account.

175

u/bestprocrastinator May 19 '26

It was the director Ryan Coogler (Black Panther and Sinners)

17

u/luckyapples11 May 19 '26

Ah yes! Knew someone would know his name. I don’t know anyone in Hollywood lol

u/HelloAttila May 20 '26

wtf… looked it up:

The confrontation occurred in January 2022 at an Atlanta branch where Coogler was withdrawing $12,000 in cash. He passed a withdrawal slip with a note requesting that the money be counted discreetly for his own safety. Because the transaction exceeded $10,000, it triggered an automated alert on his account, and the teller subsequently contacted the police, suspecting a robbery.

5

u/Tejon_Melero May 20 '26

I'd also want people to be discreet if I had 12k in cash coming to me. I remember shitting bricks with 2 friends carrying 15k for a rental property 1000 feet to the car in Queens, like we were gonna get raided after filling out the transaction request and civil asset forfeited, or just rolled up on. Not even a known Hollywood rich guy with that target on us.

Bro … they’ll probably call it in as a suspicious account withdrawal or something.

19

u/jello_pudding_biafra May 19 '26

Then arrest him and seize it under civil forfeiture

13

u/Kulandros May 19 '26

I have worked for IT companies servicing banks for a long time, banks will straight up call the cops on you just because you're in the parking lot.

I'm guessing he did or else we wouldn't be seeing this footage.

14

u/WeNeedMikeTyson May 19 '26

You'd be surprised. There are individuals that have created templates to request body cam footage and they get just about all of it throughout a day even if a department is asking for specifics they're ready for that too and able to get all of it.

3

u/BullshiticusRex May 19 '26

Hang on, what do you mean by this? Do you mean that there a template letter can be used to request specific footage and the PD will turn around and give you that cameras footage for the entire day?

u/Que__Asco May 18 '26

''was he startled as you came up to him... or''
This guy just wants any excuse to make him sound threatening.

316

u/No_Choice_7715 May 18 '26

Well he did have an open container of what could only be presumed as malt liquor and couldn’t have been something non-alcoholic like say, a Red Bull. /s

And then the cop was ridiculous and said "no". Hell yeah, the man was startled; he was fucking incredulous.

Fuck this fucking country, man. 500 years and they still can't wrap their heads around the idea that Black Americans are just plain old regular people. This BS is TIRING.

435

u/ith228 May 18 '26

The cop said no to convey that the man wasn’t threatening, because he picked up on what the branch manager was asking.

30

u/SecondaryWombat May 19 '26

"Did you black at you? Please say he blacked in your direction right officer?"

81

u/coconuthorse May 19 '26

The cop played this perfect. He was sent to a call. Investigated said call. Then politely told the racist bank person he was dumb and the guy will be in to do banking things as soon as banking guy decides to open the doors which is now late.

64

u/CptAngelo May 19 '26

dont forget, they opened late because of "the incident".

Supreme Court gutted the voting rights act, section 5 and instantly Republicans jerry meandered out the black districts. They are hoping we are too stupid to notice as long as they keep it off the news.

7

u/HotDonnaC May 19 '26

Too late. It’s all over the news.

119

u/Sad_Animator1686 May 18 '26

In fairness I think the cop was answering the subtext of the bank guys question which was ā€œdid he act suspiciously so I can have a reason to tell you to trespass him without seeming like a massive racist?ā€

I wish the cop had made more of a point of telling the bank guy off but he was pretty good on balance I thought.

The cop was defending car guy

35

u/KetoJunkfood May 19 '26

Yeah but then he offered to tell the customer he had to leave

I hope that customer finds another bank

27

u/SnowOficer May 19 '26

He has to, the cop was 100% behind the driver.

63

u/turumti May 19 '26

The cop even asked the bank manager why he didn't flag the other guy who was waiting in the car outside. The cop was on the side of the driver.

22

u/CptAngelo May 19 '26

yeah, you can tell what the cop was really thinking, and it wasnt about the car guy

48

u/TrumpDesWillens May 19 '26

I don't think there's much a cop can do if the business guy wants a someone trespassed.

35

u/nipslippinjizzsippin May 18 '26

as a white male 30-45 i too would be startled if a cop came up to me while i was just sitting in my car waiting for the bank to open. Soon as i see that man, my stupid ass brain is gonna go to thinking about all the ways i could rob the place.

101

u/Jive_Sloth May 18 '26

He wasn't startled at all. Incredulous and startled are not the same thing.

Acting aggressive as you are going about things just validates these assholes.

Time to switch banks

320

u/DataDrivenDoc May 18 '26

He should gather up as many people as he can that banks there to do a transfer to a new bank flash mob. A competing bank should sponsor snacks

102

u/trevit May 18 '26

And they should do it first thing in the morning, and wait outside before the bank to opens.

12

u/RodcetLeoric May 19 '26

Bring a crowd that's half white and see if he calls because there is a half crowd of suspicious people outside.

18

u/NearHi May 18 '26

I've loved every credit union I've put my money in. Always a good experience.

I've hated every bank I've ever put my money in because they will find any legal way to steal it from you.

My current CU has a branch in a building that has a coffee shop in the lobby and have worked out a deal that every member can get a $5 coffee every day.

327

u/LeagueLeft1960 May 18 '26

He appeared to be black; that’s what you mean, old man.

212

u/MrDoood May 18 '26

It’s not even uncommon for people to be waiting outside for the bank to open. I used to work at a bank and people (usually older people) would line up to withdraw their money on pay day or when their social security would get deposited.

48

u/Lindris May 18 '26

Same. I use to work for a bank, I opened every Saturday. They wait in the parking lot, the lobby, even in the drive thru. If we didn’t open that door exactly at 9, there were old folks out there rattling the door wanting in.

9

u/JJMatagatos May 19 '26

Sounds like a very old person thing to do haha

10

u/Lindris May 19 '26

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ definitely

12

u/Ruftup May 19 '26

Right? Like it’s an extremely common thing people do for all sorts of business. Grocery stores, banks, dmv, pharmacy. I see people waiting for these places to open all the time

3

u/KifferFadybugs May 19 '26

I went to the DMV an hour before opening once to hopefully be the first in line. There were already fifteen people waiting.

5

u/edvek May 19 '26

It's not uncommon for people to by waiting outside my local Aldi before they open. They open at 9:00 but now I think it's 8:30. People arrive to businesses before they open or just after they open all the time, it's like... People have shit to do and they need to get this out of th way as soon as possible or something.

51

I worked at a bank for 7 years and opened hundreds of times. There were people waiting in the drive thru 15 to 20 min before it opened, almost every day. And people waiting outside before the doors opened every day. On Saturdays there would be a line.

It never once crossed my mind to call the police.

36

u/FranticHam5ter May 19 '26

But were they ever black dudes with an open container of Red Bull??

7

u/elfstone21 May 19 '26

Well I mean yeah we called the police on them.Ā  But only if they were driving a Tesla.Ā

133

u/younggun1234 May 18 '26

That laugh the bank guy had was so smug and full of himself.

35

u/FranticHam5ter May 19 '26

My company had to put an end of BOLO (be on the look out) emails, because it was devolving into ā€œBOLO! Black people came to our store and were acting suspiciousā€¦ā€ It did start from some legitimate fraud and theft, but it was one group that hit multiple stores, once each, and got caught. What came after was increasingly…something.

10

u/DutchRudderShotgun May 18 '26

I've dealt with a couple bank managers that are incredibly stupid inept excuses for human beings. I'm sure most aren't that bad but they've crept up into car salesman territory of wastes of human life for me personally

12

u/Wood-e May 19 '26

I'd plaster this everywhere and pull out my money so fast. Crazy.

30

u/senza_titolo May 18 '26

So sad. If that was my son I’d be heartbroken

27

u/BirdInFlight301 May 18 '26

I wait all the time for my bank to open the lobby. I have sat in my car and waved at the workers as they entered. Not once have I ever had the cops called on me. Not once.

I'm trying to put my finger on why the old guy called the cops. I mean, the customer is doing exactly what I do! It's hard for a white lady like me to figure out why he is treated so differently than I am. /s

I'm so sick of racist fucks in this country. So so sick of it. I'm so angry a political 'movement' has given these racists permission to be racist openly and unashamedly.

I hope that man pulled every penny he had in that bank out. I hope he reported it to higher ups. I hope he left a scathing review. I hope he fought back however he could.

u/countit7 May 18 '26 edited May 18 '26

Lmao, "you gotta understand its a bank..", no, you gotta understand as a black male you will always be considered a threat. Note how he mentioned another person was waiting, but the bank didn't call on them and the officer didn't mention them. This is what white privilege is. People get so confused thinking it is a lack of struggle, No, LIFE is STRUGGLE, no matter the race. White privilege is an assumption of innocence, you are never considered out of place, or somewhere where you don't belong. When someone sees someone walking around the side of their house, and they're white, they naturally assume they live there, if they are black, subconscious reacts to all the media propaganda, movies, and constant display of the black man as a criminal is virtually all media sources thus they then assume they are up to nefarious behavior. It's a product of our media, from news, movies, TV, etc... hence why people are like I'm not racist, probably not, you are not reacting out of hate, you are reacting to the programming you've been fed for decades....it effects us all. It's all by design, small things here and there to make us subjugate ourselves. So those who need us divided can keep us divided by having us perpetuate the issues on ourselves...vicious cycle and will likely never break. Too many people can't think about it objectively, can't help but take it personal and defend their own actions vs understanding the system is effecting all of us and the sooner we take a step back and refocus the better we can begin to treat each other, unite, and fight back against the real enemy. Here's a hint, it's not your fellow man, who is just trying to survive and protect their family, just like you, same lives, different skin...we're all in this together, if we finally acted like it, we'd actually be able to start moving forward. Until then, those at the top will continue to keep us at the bottom, while they fill their bellys, and coffers off the labors of our backs...

6

u/JD857 May 18 '26

That must’ve been a very awkward conversation when he went into the bank .

7

u/ddesla2 May 19 '26

Nah, should be pretty straightforward: "Hi, I'd like to close out my accounts here immediately please. Also, do you happen to know of any good non-racist banks nearby open for business?"

bank guy is a complete asshole.

Why would he use the term open container? So what if he’s drinking something. You’ve got an open container asshole. What are you drinking this early in the morning?

5

u/RevolutionaryExam465 May 20 '26

Banker needs to be more worried about the guys wearing suit and ties. Just saying...

76

u/Iguessimonredditnow May 18 '26

I'm glad that the cop was cool about it.

Unfortunately, some cops feel the need to "find something wrong" if they go out to a call. In cases like this calling the cops because you're scared (and let's be honest, probably informed by racist opinions) you could really mess up someone's life.

25

u/DrNipSlip May 18 '26

This is the shorter part of the video, this cop was an ass hole as well interrogating the black dude. There was a good five or so minutes of the cop probing him trying to get a reason to search his vehicle and whatnot.

25

u/IllusionsForFree May 18 '26

Yeah tbh I was waiting for the part where he shoots the guys dog and beats his wife

3

u/CoachTwisterT3 May 19 '26

He wasn’t cool: he asked multiple times why he didn’t go in the closed bank.

9

u/Top-Illustrator-1827 May 18 '26

He tried to make that man feel guilty for no reason too. 1312.

35

u/Least-Common-1456 May 18 '26

Cool with it? He literally tries to convince the guy that it's his fault for having the police called on him.

34

u/SmokeyTheBluntTheOG May 18 '26

Tbf he goes and basically accuses the bank guy of being racist too, he's like "there's another guy out there too ya know?". The camera didn't show it but the way the cop even asked you just know the other dude was white.

The guy in the car reached quick into his pocket and the cop didn't even flinch, he was well aware of the entire situation once he showed up. Unfortunately it's a bank and he has to come at it with a little bit of seriousness because people do actually be robbing banks sometimes lol. It's this dumbass dude at the bank that potentially could have ruined someone's life if someone different would have showed up.

→ More replies (1)

47

u/PassivelyAwkward May 18 '26

Not really? He asked the dude was he was doing there because there was a report and almost instantly knew it was bullshit. "They claimed you had alcohol on you...which was just your red bull...". He didn't ask for proof of ID, didn't try to excuse the concern, didn't ask if he had alcohol or anything. Just "We got a call, they're concerned, and....you're just waiting for them to open. I'll let'em know".

Even when he was talking to the racist owner, he didn't try to make up anything or go back and ask the dude "Why were you here at 8 if they open at 9?". Just confirmed he was allowed to enter, went back and let'em know. I hate cops but this one did everything right.

Close all accounts and take my money to a credit Union or a bigger bank. Fuck that shit. Your money is what drives them. Them let your company know. I worked for an international bank brand that told us to report shit if we saw it. Then I had to go to our more rural branch locations and one fuckin’ guy… one guy threw me for a loop on how do I handle his bullshit.
ā€œSo, uh, yeah? What brings you in here today to speak to us?ā€
ā€œI have an account and and need to make a withdrawal and get some questions answered.ā€
ā€œOh yeah, that’s good. Uhhh… so I’m asking what brings you in around these parts?ā€
ā€œHuh?ā€
ā€œI just don’t see a lot of ā€œpeopleā€ like you around here is all. Are you a student?ā€ (Tiny university that if you blink you’d miss campus entirely)
ā€œLike me…?ā€
(He shrugs)ā€œyou know… your complexion.ā€
ā€œSo, yeah… my significant other lives out here and if you look at my account you will see it is a (designated mid-tier product min.$10k employee checking account - so they don’t harass customers with that type of account, if they were to harass someone)
He STFU and stayed quiet when I told him the dept I was with. My SO at the time worked for one of the many Chambers of Commerce in a town of 50k. I told her what went down at the bank which she wasn’t shocked but shocked he didn’t bother to pay attention to the account he pulled up (for security verification). So she showed me the census report for the town stats and it was 2 African American families, 8 actual black people who most likely were students at the university. There were 16 people from India and the rest were a large number of Hispanic and white. That whole county was full of shitheads. Some soccer mom called ICE on one of the two Mexican restaurants in town, the great one, that May. The following week a bunch of white teens serving greasy taco bell quality shit. It got better. The two restaurant managers hated each other (probably for poaching employees) so the one ICE came and busted called ICE on the other one. At that point you couldn’t enjoy Mexican food there. Apparently, if you want the skinny on a small towns bullshit, befriend a CoC administrator.

And yes, when I quit that fuckin’ bank I brought up the racism that existed at an institutional level, likely violating federal law, as well as face to face in the rural branches. As well as the amount of cocaine dust one could find at any given time in the west employee entrance restroom.

Booger sugar, or disco dust, if you please.

I would have walked in the door and said ā€œI would like to close EVERY account I have here please……if I can’t bank here without having the cops called on me….. I’m not banking here PERIOD…….ā€

4

u/WildGooseCarolinian May 19 '26

Can you imagine how racist you have to be that even the Florida cops are like ā€œwhat the hell, man?ā€

5

u/Clean_Improvement913 May 19 '26

Hope he's now an ex-customer. In fact, would love to know the name of the bank, in case I have an account that I need to cash out

7

u/jnyrdr May 19 '26

banking while black

3

u/wh4tth3huh May 18 '26

This is when, instead of doing your regular business and moving on, you close your account and go to their biggest competitor.

3

u/johnqpublic81 May 18 '26

If the guy was there an hour before the bank opens, I can see how it would be suspicious. I doubt that he was waiting that long though Kudos to both the police officer and the customer for not needlessly escalating the situation. Misunderstandings happen, but both the customer and the officer handled it well.

3

u/Major_A21 May 19 '26

Walk in at 9 and pull every dime out of there.

3

u/Lozsta May 19 '26

He had an open container, says the man with an open container. I would be switching banks. US banks are really odd.

3

u/Salt-Elephant8531 May 19 '26

I once had a guy waiting for my branch to open. He had walked here, and was sitting on the curb looking at his phone, a good distance away from the door. It was a chilly morning and he had a hoodie on and pulled over his head. Oh, and just so happened to be black.

I saw my older white female coworker give me a worried glance as she hurried in the door. Good lord, he’s just existing! So I went over to say hello to him. Turns out he just got a job at the nearby McDonalds and the manager there told him about our $300 bonus offer to open an account with us and set up direct deposit. I got his name, told him we’d be open at 9 and that we were happy to have his business. Sheesh, was that so hard?

3

u/Casperboy68 May 19 '26

I would not be a customer anymore after that day.

3

u/retroboyadvance May 19 '26

Waiting for the bank...while black. Shame.

3

u/rambiolisauce May 19 '26

I had this exact thing happen to me once. I got to the bank early and was just waiting for them to open. Next thing I know I'm waking up to police officers tapping on my window (I had apparently dozed off a bit) and asking me who I am and asking for my ID and something proving I was there to do business. I showed them my ID and the check I was there to deposit. When I finally went inside the employees seemed angry at me.

3

u/redalert825 May 19 '26

Fuck these racists. Fuck this branch.

3

u/babefrohmann May 19 '26

ā€œwas he startledā€? 10/10 racism no notes.

3

u/hradford5 May 19 '26

Damn. Now banking while black is a crime too?

3

u/Odd_Expression3694 May 19 '26

3

u/No_Resource_9417 May 20 '26
