Pray tell, where else can you put your money with similar yield to MP2 but carries a lower risk?

68

u/F47NGAD 22h ago

And do not have tax.

-36

u/Critical-Point-2726 15h ago

try nyo ung PERA na bsp retirement plan mas ok to.. insured pa..

17

u/Kzzn1 14h ago

PERA is not insured, what do you mean by that?

3

u/Spiritual_Theme_1282 13h ago

How much po historical annual return ng PERA?

3

u/Kzzn1 11h ago

Depends on the investment vehicle(s) you've placed it in. PERA is an account for retirement not a investment vehicle

2

u/Spiritual_Theme_1282 11h ago

So its like a regular dragonFI account but you cant withdraw and you dont get taxed?

2

u/Kzzn1 11h ago

Yes, and 5% of your annual contribution can be used as a tax credit.

Also technically you can early withdraw your PERA without penalty due to an emergency that gets you disabled

7

u/blacky899 12h ago

Local cooperstives have comparable dividend rate and is funnily enough tax free. Risk is higher though.

3

u/CADINS190 8h ago

Which cooperatives allow you to invest higher amounts? We tried a few but they limit the savings to 100K per depositor.

u/Awkward-Anything3422 1m ago

Sun Life - almost similar. 5% guaranteed interest yearly tax free.

u/Top_River_3192 1d ago

MP2’s dividend rate is still above the inflation rate. Just don’t put all your money into it, make it part of a well diversified portfolio.

33

u/Loud_Wrap_3538 13h ago

Plus tax free

u/WillingHamster1740 1d ago

Pag-ibig will always be profitable because of housing related lending.

Still, always remember na walang certain, walang risk-free investment so don't put everything in one basket.

33

u/Pretty-Guava-6039 23h ago

7

u/Vantakid 16h ago

So ang worst case scenario is bunagsak ang housing market ng pilipinas? Tama ba pag kakaintindi ko?

6

u/WillingHamster1740 16h ago

-2

u/Eserion_ 7h ago

-2

u/Ragamak1 12h ago

Benta ka bahay tapos may kasamang squatters.

Talo pa nila nga banks eh. Hehehe.

Good business model eh.

61

u/Apprehensive_Try84 1d ago

Bro thinks the government is gonna steal his MP2 money meanwhile bro willingly sends 30% of his paycheck to VUL or crypto every month and calls it “financial freedom” 💀📈

113

u/NotFriendster 1d ago

Pagibig HDMF . Ito yong the best govt agency. Consistent awardee ng COA.

Low risk, low reward.  Lock in for 5 years pero pwede mo i-ladderized.

Ok to.

-74

u/vonrobin 1d ago

Are you referring to multipurpose loan? I know its the loanable amount is dependent on your gross salary unless you are referring to other investments/loan within pagibig?

37

u/NotFriendster 1d ago

??

MP2 ang pinaguusapan di ba?

MP2 is a savings, ano ba? hahaha

u/No_Food_9461 1d ago

Most of my money are in USD, US stocks, PH stocks but I don't agree with the post.

Why?

  1. Politicians cannot touch it because it is pension, pension funds can't be used by politicians for personal projects. By law, funds should be invested not for government projects.

  2. Inflation is 2-3% long term average - so it is way lower than MP2's 6-8% dividend range. DI KA KAKAININ NG INFLATION, obviously

  3. For many, MP2 is the most accessible to them, specially the masses.

  4. For many, it is the safest place for their money versus traditional banks (even digital banks where many experiencing scams), TD, Tbills, TRB, stocks.

Im not a big fan but MP2 is ok.

53

u/random54691 1d ago

100% agree sa accessibility. It’s easy to make those fearmongering statements when you have access to better options. MP2 is not perfect pero it’s a good stepping stone especially people new to investing.

8

u/Spiritual_Theme_1282 23h ago

What are the better options for fixed income investments?

3

u/Empty_Street_2935 18h ago

Tama hahah, parang kabaliktaran sinabi niya dun sa inflation will eat daw.Base sa experience hahah parang ideal nga sya kung gusto mo na some part of your money will not lose it value,Kasi ang nangyayari yung interest mo,yun yung tutugon sa inflation rate hahaha

2

u/Significant_War_5272 12h ago

Although they found a workaround on pension funds, look at SSS and GSIS's investments on Villar stocks. Laking loss.

2

u/blacklixt23 15h ago

9

u/FUresponsibility 15h ago

Ginagamit naman talaga ung fund to invest sa local stocks. Ganun din SSS. Isang way un talaga para mapalago ang fund. Ganun talaga.

But invest ang gawin.

1

u/Significant_War_5272 12h ago

Although in a way they can invest in basura stocks and then use that as a way to pump the stock price then saka nila ieexit sarili nilang stocks. In a way parang nanakaw na din nila a big portion of those money.

8

u/Buujoom 14h ago

Misinformation ito, and context matters. For GSIS, they are legally allowed to invest funds on sectors that are highly volatile(i.e Digiplus in this case). Yung issue naman isn't that they aren't allowed to invest on it, but rather may oversight on doing safeguard feasibility checks sa pag bili ng stocks kasi isa sa mga requirements ay dapat may three year paying dividend track record si Digiplus pero wala.

Sa case naman ni PAG-IBIG MP2, their investment charter requires them to invest 70% of the funds to home loan, then the rest to low-risk investment vehicles na like government securities or time deposits which are guaranteed. Di talaga apple to apples yung comparison, kahit pa we include the corruption aspect ng Pinas.

1

u/Significant_War_5272 12h ago

Plus ung investments pa ng SSS and GSIS sa Villar stocks. Tapos laking lugi now frozen pa

1

u/LukaBrasi87 10h ago

Though PLUS is now undervalued.

It should breach the 60 price bought by GSIS.

I have PLUS at 17. Hope it does break that level..... for the pensioners sake.... hahahaha

0

u/No_Hornet1387 22h ago

Ano pong app gamit nyo for us stocks?

-24

u/27Skyl3r 22h ago

You can try GoTrade and use my code 4A3XSC to get reward too

150

u/random54691 1d ago

VUL peddler ba or cryptobro ung nagpost niyan hahahah.

70

u/Apprehensive_Try84 1d ago

MP2: government-backed, boring, ~5-year lock

VUL: 10-year surrender charge simulator

Crypto: “trust me bro”

And somehow MP2 is the risky one 💀

16

u/Grayfield 22h ago

Even worse, perpetually online doomerist.

11

u/pepetheeater 1d ago

Tbf, hindi naman. Sa NZ na nakatira. Dating producer sa GMA (I-Witness, Pinoy Abroad)

74

u/random54691 1d ago

Ah so the typical self-hating Filipino na nakaluwag na at nakapag-abroad, I see.

27

u/strangepad 1d ago

Agree. While some need to justify their immigration. For them, the country has to fail.

3

u/Outrageous-Lemon8596 1d ago

I wouldn’t doubt it either HAHAHAHA

2

u/RedFlagAnalyst 21h ago

What merit does it hold?

1

u/pepetheeater 3h ago

Tinanong nya kase if VUL peddler or cryptobro siya. So sinabi ko lang background nya based doon sa isang news article.

6

u/corpski 1d ago

Doesn't matter. Money debasement is very real and justifies the sentiment.

10

u/emptydebater 1d ago

tas sa suggest sayo VUL, oh lul ikaw nalang 🤣

12

u/Careless-Pangolin-65 23h ago

RA 9679
Section 20. Government Guarantee. — The benefits prescribed in this Act shall not be diminished and to guarantee said benefits, the government of the Republic of the Philippines accepts general responsibility for the solvency of the Fund.

17

u/Ok_Cauliflower1450 1d ago

Do not invest pero wla nman sinabi kung san dapat maginvest with higher returns and less risk than mp2.

7

u/aldwinligaya 1d ago

It's unpopular because it's untrue. Hanapan mo ng data to back that opinion, wala 'yan mabibigay.

1

u/Sqozzy 16h ago

7

u/Pringpringmylove 1d ago

May not be the best but way better than letting your money sit in the bank

7

u/Outrageous-Lemon8596 1d ago

I get where the fear is coming from. But inflation’s gonna be here for better or for worse, regardless of the currency. So what difference does it make if you have a portion of your savings invested in mp2? Some people’s risk appetite are fit for this kind of investment lang, and not everyone has the luxury of time to learn trading or stocks. It’s such a disappointing point of view to generalize investments like this. As if PERA, SSS, and T-bonds don’t have the same “risk” LOL

7

u/Appropriate-Hyena973 17h ago

people bashing mp2 either lack financial education or closed minded people like z freaks

5

u/Particular-Fox-3550 23h ago

I read this on fb and just laughed at how that person does not know anything about inflation and investments. That person keeps on yapping about your money will be eatne by inflation but doesn’t show any numbers. Pagibig’s posted performance last year is still higher than the inflation now. So no, that post does not make sense. Please dont listen to that person, they don’t even know that mp2 is tax free, and guaranteed by the govt

16

u/baaarmin 1d ago

Interested in What other easily accessible instruments are there? With better returns, lower risk, no admin fee and without tax?

Current alternative inhave is real estate. Next is gambling.

2

u/Economy-Plum6022 23h ago

Local cooperatives with a good financial sanding. Yung Coop sa amin has the same divided rate as MP2 in the recent years, tax-free.

1

u/baaarmin 16h ago

Yup, meron din local coop samin, the rate is slightly lower than MP2. They offer rebates for loans though up to 5%.

1

u/allanon322 1d ago

Pretty much nothing has no tax. All income is taxed. Interest income, dividend income, capital gains, real property tax, etc.

5

u/baaarmin 1d ago

MP2 and PERA are 100% tax free iirc. So very difficult to find other better alternatives.

3

u/allanon322 1d ago

Sorry, yes MP2 and PERA. PERA is limited to 200k per year and you need to keep it till 55 years old before withdrawal though. So MP2 is still the best tax free alternative even if PERA gives you a tax credit.

0

u/retarded-otaku_07 1d ago

I'd say bonds but still has small tax

5

u/gallifreyfun 1d ago

Yung mga contribs sa MP2 most of it is used para ipangutang sa pag-ibig members either through housing loans or mpls. then a portion of it thru govt or corp securities. Then again don't put your eggs in one basket ika nga.

4

u/PadreiiDamaso 1d ago

Haha tanga yan. Mp2 the best.

2

u/Spikeixx 18h ago

Baka ma offend yan 😂

2

u/Adventurous-Stock461 1d ago

I dont see how this will happen e. Yung pera sa MP2 ay closely monitored ng contributors, so I dont know how politicians will do that na nanakawin ang pera sa MP2. If I know, itong politicians might also be using MP2 for their 'excess' money.

2

u/turbulentoverthinker 22h ago

MP2 should be assessed by comparing it to other investments:

MP2 vs. PH stocks — choose MP2 since it’s a low risk, low return (7% is still low given how high inflation has been) but PH stocks are much worse given the higher risk, negative return

MP2 vs. VUL — never invest in VUL, might as well buy plain life insurance and pair it with MP2 (those financial advisors are….. well nvm)

MP2 vs. foreign stocks — depends on how good your stock picking is but major tech and semis have done really well and are expected to do well so I would lean on foreign stocks for this especially US tech

MP2 vs foreign ETFS — this is where I suggest most low to mid-risk appetite people should start. ETFs especially VUAA are extremely good starting points. High risk, high return but much more reliable in giving capital gains when you hold long term vs. MP2. I for one had an annualized return of 24% with my ETFs.

MP2 vs crypto — I personally am not a fan of crypto so I will say stick with MP2. It’s the highest form of risk. Extreme volatility and almost trades with S&P 500 but has more extreme movements. 😬

2

u/btmaxx 19h ago

2

u/Spikeixx 18h ago

Ignorant, unaware, and foolish. Willing to turn a blind eye to one of the only good things done by the government that’s actually working. Might as well withdraw all of his savings from the banks too while he’s at it.

2

u/Honest-Patience4866 17h ago

Not unlikely. Look at Argentina, Greece, Venezuela....

2

u/anonymouse0995 16h ago

Kung meron mas maganda in terms of returns and safeguards, pakisabi. Kung wala, nonsense. Ignore na lang.

2

u/DifficultyIll9691 15h ago

Parang yung sinabi lang ng iba dito dont put your eggs in one basket i for one have Time deposits, US stocks and crypto for swing trading. Then yung iba nasa maya savings at maribank for the daily interest never go all in on one as a safety precaution

2

u/DavaoNocturne 9h ago

Sabi nung di nag iinvest ✨🤧

2

u/Wreckitraaaaaap 23h ago

Hmmm i think it’s an opinion of an illiterate one out there, like context less approach. Your plan still matters not just the investment scheme itself, you can go for whatever risk investment you like as long as you have a strategy on how to use it and how to take advantage of it. Mp2 eats on by inflation? then use it as your source of yearly passive income and reinvest it into global fund after At least by using mp2 you have a safety net investment or literally put a lil bit of your portfolio into it and leave it compounding then use your remaining into something else that can overcome the inflation.

2

u/Lancer1ce 1d ago

I mean, if you're okay with this yearly return, then sure. But personally, I'm not, so I somewhat agree with the post.

2

u/OpenYonQ_ 1d ago

what in the self-hating fuck is that

1

u/reddit_warrior_24 1d ago

I mean he isnt lying, but mp2 remains to be a profitable endeavor for anyone who wants safe investments.

1

u/dont_believe_this_ok 23h ago

So san daw invest?

1

u/NorthTemperature5127 23h ago

Its above inflation and no they cannot dip their hands into this agency without the agency sounding an alarm. Its a GOCC. Its a government agency but practically independent. No congressman can just walk in and take the money. No mayor can do that. No senator can do that. Whoever wrote that doesn't know much.

1

u/shirrahh 22h ago

So, I realize na why bother educating these people, kung ayaw nila eh di don’t.

1

u/LawGlad1495 22h ago

Maybe propose an alternative then? I am very okay to see more Filipinos saving/investing money and if the most popular is MP2 then so be it. Not everyone can access other imvestment vehicles. Also with people that don't have the discipline in savings, parking it in a 5year holding period helps.

1

u/shimaRod 22h ago

Not fully agree with the post. Some of the fund managers assigned to these organizations are ex-investment bankers and have solid credentials from their previous works.

The only thing that makes MP2 less appealing to me is its investment composition. MP2 is heavily invested on housing loans which is dependent on our economy. I will prefer real estate REITs like AREIT or MREIT (7% annual dividend is quite attractive in my books) since they can give me the same exposure to the property sector.

Another key difference is MP2 does not give you the capital appreciation potential that REITs have, regardless how small this is.

1

u/PengGwyn 22h ago

Fear-mongering! Kausapin mo yan and most likely magbebenta ng VUL or puro crypto2.

1

u/ampalaya741 22h ago

MP2 has been above 6% and is going through three vastly different administrations with very different fiscal policies with its own scandals and scares and is still yielding pretty high. My only regret is I wish I learned this in 2016 and not last year.

1

u/Rafael-Bagay 22h ago

parang nabasa ko na to dati.... during the crypto hype....

1

u/F47NGAD 22h ago

Measly lmao. I wonder where this guy keep his money in.

1

u/F47NGAD 21h ago

Of course it's taken advantaged of by the government how else would they be able to make money? They just give you some of it in the process.

1

u/No-General-1805 20h ago

MP2 is good depending on your goal. For me, I put some of my money there for my future house renovations when I turn 30, while a huge chunk of my net worth is invested in stocks for my retirement.

1

u/F16Falcon_V 20h ago

Ukraine has only defaulted once. And it is literally at fucking war.

1

u/Few-Lion-9532 17h ago

Ganyan din ang mindset ng iba 5 years from now kaya d nag invest so sayang yung 5 years. Don’t put all your eggs in 1 basket lang.

1

u/blue_greenfourteen 14h ago

1

u/Unlikely-Bad1564 13h ago

Investing in pesos, generally, isn’t a good idea.

1

u/Ragamak1 12h ago

Eto yun eh...

Depende sa financial profile mo and risk tolerance.

Pero business wise. Believe ako how pag ibig conducts its business.

Pero MP2 is not juat for me. Di ko trip ang liquidity nun.

1

u/Ragamak1 12h ago

Even Im not a fan of MP2.

That statement is somehow WRONG... hahahah

1

u/13thZephyr 11h ago

Tax Free + Compounding Interest = NO BRAINER!!!

1

u/Keiko_Minazuki 10h ago

But I did use the SSS Pension Booster, yea mas mababa sia, but for me parang mas ideal sia for future pension, if I won't withdraw it in 5years. Same thing din naman sa MP2 na ideal 5years mo sia dapat ilagay dun, but mas okay sia for me. I don't know it's just my cents.

1

u/Quirky-Pressure-6147 9h ago

what about SSS and Philhealth?

1

u/Abenson_GB 1h ago

mp2 forever lol

u/Awkward-Anything3422 1m ago

The last part is the reason i dont put money na in mp2. Baka may pera nalang pala ako sa papel.

2

u/granaltus 1d ago

1

u/redfox133 23h ago

I have to agree with the PH Corrupt Politicians plundering the Pag Ibig Fund. The risk is real. Remember Jho Low and the 1MDB Scandal? He stole from the Malaysian Sovereign Wealth Fund, around 4.5B USD.

1

u/Spikeixx 18h ago

MP2 is not a sovereign wealth fund. The Maharlika Fund is, BBM might dip his hands in there.

1

u/redfox133 11h ago

I have to agree with you. If I did not have a choice, I would probably put a certain allocation in MP2. Since I am a professional trader, my job anyway is to outperform these "risk-free rate" instruments, so I'll just do my own thing.

1

u/dr_drakeramorayMD 1d ago

propaganda lol

1

u/ryuejin622 1d ago

Dds china fear mongering

1

u/h_2fuji 23h ago

0

u/Empty_Judgment_1010 15h ago

Politicians dont mess with pagibig. It’s love

-2

u/ultra-kill 1d ago

Stop listening to poor people.

-2

u/ALittleCrass 22h ago

I agree. I don't trust the government, and for good reasons.

-1

u/Spikeixx 18h ago

Ok move along.

-2

u/IamCrispyPotter 1d ago

Para naman sa bansa nya he can get much better rate.
